Mulholland drive is the best movie I've ever seen (so far), what other movies might change the way I see things?
Hi all I recently watched Mulholland Drive for the first time and it completely blew me away. It's hard for me to articulate why I like things but I'll try my best. It's a beautifully shot movie, the acting was phenomenonal (the dinner scene where you can see the emotions and pain shifting in Naomi Watts eyes!). Everything in the movie felt like it was done with purpose, chosen with intent if that makes sense? I loved the absurdity of it and the discomfort that burdens you as a viewer. The portrayal of (to me at least) grief and pain felt very real, accurate. It captured a feeling i hadn't previously been able to put into words. Now I can point people to scenes from this movie and say "that's what it was like, that's how I felt." I think what really stood out to me was the overwhelming dread and tension that builds in every scene. I couldn't stop thinking about the movie for some time afterwards and all I wanted to do was watch it again. I had a similar shift a few years ago when I watched Titane, Crash, Existenz, and Videodrome. Just completely changed how I thought about movies, (for example what elements make a horror movie and why.) I think maybe I like movies that make you consider why the creator made certain choices (with intent!) While I primarily enjoy scifi and horror I'm open to anything. In the mood for love is on my list and I see people recommend persona, 3 women, portrait of a lady and petite maman. (Not sure which one of those to start with!) However I fear I dont know what I dont know and wonder if there's something outside of my bubble that would really rock my world. Really appreciate any recommendations people would like to make. In Mulholland Drive, David Lynch spends two hours developing a rich mystery setting up a full season of television. However after that he takes it all back and makes it all a dream or something and film snobs eat this up as artistic and genius.

I just finished Mulholland Drive and genuinely have no idea what just watched
I finally watched Mulholland Drive last night because it’s always on those “greatest movies ever made” lists. I went in expecting a complicated mystery… but I genuinely feel like my brain got scrambled. For the first hour or so, I thought I understood what was happening. Then the story just kept getting stranger and stranger, and by the end I wasn’t even sure what parts were real, what parts were dreams, or if any of it actually happened. Some things that completely lost me: The whole shift in identities near the end The blue box / blue key situation Club Silencio (which felt important but I have no idea why) Whether the first half of the movie is supposed to be a dream I’m not even saying it’s bad, it was actually really fascinating and creepy but I feel like I’m missing something huge. So for people who understand this movie… What is actually going on? Is there a generally accepted interpretation, or is it intentionally meant to be confusing? submitted by /u/BharatSonawane to r/Cinema [link] [comments]

I'm glad the cowboy from Mulholland Drive has found love also; do they not understand that the previous MP stood down so Burnham could be an MP and therefore eligible to be a PM? How loving stupid can you get. You could stick a green dot on their forehead, plonk them in front of a mirror and they'd start pointing at their reflection saying 'get a load of this guy'

I took an edible before Mulholland Drive, thinking it was going to be a lesbian romance. Holy. Shit.
My partner suggested we watch it and based on his description of it, I thought I was settling in for a chill mystery movie with a lesbian love story. The first few minutes in I’m rolling with it. By 60 minutes in there’s some unsettling moments (the espresso scene, the diner alleyway scene, the cowboy scene) where we’re like, “Did I understand what just happened?” and had to rewind. By the end I felt like my emotions and trust were violated by David Lynch. The edible peaked right as Rita opened the blue box, and my soul left my body. The last 15-20 minutes was the craziest mindfuck I’ve ever experienced in a movie. I don’t know who I am anymore. Is Mulholland Drive even real? Are we real?? I had to stop thinking of Betty and Rita as real people for the longest time. It’s officially one of my favorite movies ever made, hands down. I don’t know if this makes sense but I just need to get this out there. submitted by /u/bawlhie62a2 to r/movies [link] [comments]

Why Mulholland Drive is a terrible, terrible movie...
Yes, I got the plot. A woman bitterly has her ex killed, and has a long dream driven by her guilt before committing suicide.. But what pisses me off about Mulholland Dr is that the ‘it was all just a dream’ trope is so overworn surely it invalidates any modern film that uses it? How can people stand by this film? Even if this device was effective on first use centuries ago, it demonstrates serious contempt for the audience by those who employ it. It’s the cheapest of rug-pulls. The Divine Comedy, Alice in Wonderland, Charles Dickens, about a million Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo & Simpsons episodes, Labyrinth, Masters Of The Universe, Pet Sematary, Total Recall, Peter Pan, Mulholland Drive, Vanilla Sky, Atonement, Inception - we’ve seen it so many times that I feel it demonstrates serious immaturity on the audience member who is satisfied by it. By this token, Mulholland Drive & Inception are invalid choices as cannon. They are not classic films and will not age well. submitted by /u/LocalStigmatic to r/davidlynch [link] [comments]
