SECRET VIDEO: Republican admits the SAVE Act is bad for married women
“Although frankly I’m trying to not to elevate the issue too much, my chief of staff had to go get a new ID in Virginia, Virginia’s adopted the REAL ID system, so she had to go through a bunch of hoops. She’s gonna have to go back to the DMV twice because they want the paperwork for it.” The SAVE America Act would require that Americans present proof of citizenship like a passport or birth certificate to register to vote. If a person’s current name does not match their document, they would have to provide extra documentation to provide their identity. (The REAL ID system has similar requirements to obtain state identification.) Roy and other Republicans claim the bill will fight against voter fraud—which is exceedingly rare—but it will likely just make it harder for the some 69 million married American women who have changed their names to vote, as well as trans voters who have changed their names. “That’s just part of the issue with how we try to set up the ability to identify people,” Roy continued in the video. Despite describing in detail the very challenge married women would face if the SAVE Act passes, he then denied the bill would create any voting hurdles for married women. “But there’s no barriers at all to married women being able to vote,” he nonsensically concluded, failing to hear his own ignorance. https://newrepublic.com/post/208127/republican-representative-chip-roy-video-save-act-married-women-vote submitted by /u/UnlikelyAdventurer to r/Productivitycafe [link] [comments]

plumber in NYC for 30 years. My son finally talked me into posting here. Ask me anything or just take the spring checklist.
My name is Reuven. master plumber, New York City, going on 31 years. Every borough. Pre-war brownstones, high-rises, steam systems older than most of the people reading this. My son Shawn set up a website for me and talked me into doing a newsletter and now apparently Reddit. I'm not really a "posting on the internet" guy but he made a convincing argument that some of what I know might actually help people who can't afford to get ripped off or just want straight answers. So here's what I'm telling everyone right now heading into spring: Service your boiler now. Not October. By October every plumber in the city is booked three weeks out. Right now I have availability Tuesday. Clean the burners, check the pressure relief valve, flush the sediment. $200 now or $3,000 at 11pm in November. Your choice. Check how old your water heater is. Serial number plate on the side. First four digits are usually month and year of manufacture. If it says 2014 or earlier you are on borrowed time. They don't warn you. One day it just goes and you have 40 gallons on your floor. Run the faucets and flush the toilets you haven't touched all winter. Second bathrooms, basement sinks, vacation places. P-traps dry out and let sewer gas in. Two minutes per fixture. Free. Open the cabinet under every sink and look at the supply lines. Braided hoses connecting the wall to the faucet. Bulging, corroded, rubber showing through the braiding -- replace them. $15 part. Number one cause of water damage in NYC apartments. Find your main shut-off valve today. Not when something is going wrong. Usually under the kitchen sink or in a utility closet in apartments. Basement near the front wall in brownstones. If it won't turn, that's already a problem. if you've got a question you've been sitting on, drop it below. doesn't matter how small it seems. i've been answering the same questions for 30 years and i don't mind answering them again. that's kind of why i'm here. -- Reuven. submitted by /u/Asleep-Working8055 to r/AskNYC [link] [comments]

I mapped every connection between the 1,438 people named in the Epstein files. The network graph is insane.
I mapped every connection in the Epstein files. It started with 6,000 documents. It's now 1.5 million. Here's what changed. What it was a week ago: ~6,000 documents 1,708 flights 2,700 emails 1,438 persons What it is now: 1,522,060 documents — the complete DOJ corpus across all 12 data releases, fully indexed and searchable 1,708 flights with passenger manifests (1997–2019) 10,000+ emails indexed with conversation threading 1,350 persons (cleaned — removed 40 duplicate entries and 8,353 false document connections) 638,000 documents with redaction analysis — we found 1.8 million individual redactions, 616,000 flagged as potentially improper 39,500 pages of text recovered from under government redactions 107,000 named entities extracted from documents (people, organizations, locations, dates) 1,530 audio/video transcripts 4,300+ photos and media from FBI raids, property interiors, trial exhibits, and government releases That's not a typo. One point five million documents. Full-text searchable. You can search for any phrase — a name, an address, a company, a date — and it searches inside the actual contents of every document, every OCR-processed scan, every email body. What we found in the new data: The redaction analysis is damning. A collaboration with researcher u/Sea_Doughnut_8853 (who independently processed 519K PDFs with a PhD-level computational pipeline) let us analyze redaction patterns across the entire corpus. 616,000 redactions were flagged as potentially improper — meaning they appear to protect people rather than serve any legitimate legal purpose. We recovered 39,500 pages of text from under those redactions. Some of it names individuals. Some of it describes financial transactions. The government blacked it out anyway. The entity extraction changes things. Running NLP across 1.5 million documents pulled out 107,000 named entities — people, organizations, locations, and dates that appear in the files. Cross-referencing these against the known network is revealing connections that manual reading would take years to find. This week's bombshells: Les Wexner was named as an FBI "co-conspirator" in a 2019 document that was redacted until Congress forced disclosure this month A federal judge ordered Wexner to give deposition testimony — the first time he'll testify under oath about Epstein Ghislaine Maxwell pleaded the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee, then offered to testify in exchange for clemency Rep. Ro Khanna read six previously-redacted names on the House floor: Wexner, Nuara, Mikeladze, Leonov, Caputo, and bin Sulayem Depositions are scheduled through March: Wexner (Feb 18), Kahn (Feb 25), Hillary Clinton (Feb 26), Bill Clinton (Feb 27), Darren Indyke (Mar 5) All of these are now in the database with source documents linked. New tools since last week: Full-text search — Not just titles and metadata anymore. Search inside the actual text of 1.5 million documents, 28,000 OCR entries, and 10,000 emails. Type a name, an address, an account number — it finds the page. AI Research Assistant — Ask questions about the case in plain English. "What was Epstein's relationship with Deutsche Bank?" It searches the entire database, gives you an answer with direct citations, and shows you the source documents so you can verify every claim. Powered by Claude (Anthropic's AI). Degrees of Separation — The tool I mentioned last time, now upgraded. Find the shortest documented path between any two people. Each hop shows shared flights and documents as evidence. Shareable URLs. Redaction Analysis — Every document page now shows how heavily it was redacted, flags potentially improper redactions, and displays any text that was recovered from under the blacked-out sections. Investigation Dossiers — This is new as of today. You can now create your own investigation boards. Pin any person, document, flight, or email to a dossier. Add analysis notes. The community can upvote, comment, and add "Community Notes" (fact-checks that get rated helpful/not helpful by other users, like Twitter/X). There's Reddit-style hot/new/top sorting. 14 pre-built investigation dossiers are already live covering the biggest threads: the Wexner pipeline, the NPA cover-up, the intelligence nexus, the banks, the modeling pipeline, the survivors' fight, and more. Media Gallery — 4,300+ items: FBI raid photos from Little St. James and the Manhattan townhouse, property interior images, trial exhibits, court documents, and evidence photos from the House Oversight Committee. What still bothers me: Everything from my last post still applies, but the redaction analysis makes it worse. The government didn't just withhold documents — they selectively blacked out names and transactions within documents they claimed to release. 616,000 of those redactions look improper. Some of the recovered text contains names of people who have never been publicly connected to Epstein. The 2013–2019 passenger gap is still there. 835 flights, zero released manifests. The DOJ still has the island visitor logbook, the boat logs, 40+ seized computers, 70+ CDs, and a computerized database. The EFTA was supposed to release "all" records. It didn't. And now we know that at least six names were deliberately redacted from the files — not for legitimate legal reasons, but to protect the individuals. Congress had to read them into the public record from the House floor. How many more names are still blacked out? The database: Everything is at epsteinexposed.com. Free. No ads. No paywall. You can now create a free account to build investigation dossiers, but browsing the entire database requires no login. We added a community forum for collaborative research (forum.epsteinexposed.com). There's also a discussion forum, newsletter, and all the original tools — network graph, flight map, timeline, cross-reference, contradictions tracker, black book vs. flights comparison. All data comes from publicly released court records, DOJ/FBI disclosures, House Oversight releases, FAA records, and the Sea_Doughnut v2 research corpus. The site is built by one person. The server costs are real. If it's useful to you, there's a donate link on the site. The thing I said last time still holds: the thing that bothers me most isn't what's in the files. It's what's still missing. But 1.5 million documents later, what is in the files is worse than I thought. If anyone finds errors, wants to dig into specific names, or wants to build an investigation dossier on a thread you're following — I'm here. TL;DR: The Epstein database went from 6,000 documents to 1.5 million in one week. We found 616,000 potentially improper government redactions and recovered 39,500 pages of hidden text. Wexner just got named as an FBI co-conspirator. You can now search inside every document, ask an AI questions about the case, build your own investigation boards, and see what the government blacked out. epsteinexposed.com submitted by /u/EricKeller2 to r/conspiracy [link] [comments]

[PubQ] I am trying to collect data on the extent to which author newsletters actually sell books
Hi all, I am trying to collect an evidence (ideally data, but will take anecdotal if it's strong) from any type of author-- fiction, nonfiction, self published, trad published, that actually shows that authors' writing newsletters actually leads to sales. We are all told this routinely (in fact I was told by multiple people that its *guaranteed* sales). I remain really skeptical of this position because it is not true for me and is not true for several of my friends who have thousands more subscribers than me. I think it is probably true for some people, but what I'm trying to figure out is the extent to which this should broadly be stated to authors, particularly newbies. I am trad published author Vera Kurian and a post explaining this is on my most recent substack post which I don't think I'm allowed to link here (alas, the cash bounty has already been claimed) but I think it's to everyone's benefit to have actual fact-based examinations into premises we are frequently told about selling books. Anyway, if you have evidence, you can post it here, or DM me and we can email. submitted by /u/vkurian to r/PubTips [link] [comments]

Warning! Hydrated Porch pirate on the move in Hyde Park!
Warning! Be on the lookout for a hydrated porch pirate. Yesterday, this young lady decided to steal from my front porch pretending to be delivering the Hyde Park Newsletter. After nicely attaching the newsletter to my mailbox, she stole our amazon package (my wife's hydration powder) from our front porch. Her car sat in front of my house for almost 30 min, checked out the books in our neighbors library and decided to stare directly into our Nest camera as she stole our goods. She also walked around to other houses pretending to deliver the newsletter to others. Her male companion sat in the passenger seat and changed his shirt for some reason (I have more video from a different camera). AI searches confirmed this is Volkswagen CC (Comfort Coupe) — likely a model from around 2010 to 2016. Person 1 Hair: Blonde hair with dark roots, Top: black tank top, Bottom: Jean shorts, Shoes: Gold sandals, Other: Tattoos on both arms Vehicle 1 Color: Grey, Make: Volkswagen, Model: CC, Year: 2010-2016, Type: Car, License plate: NA, submitted by /u/stevo474 to r/Austin [link] [comments]

I scraped 109K comments to find the best side hustles
Got ripped off by too many courses so took matters into my own hands I scraped 112K total comments from Facebook Groups, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, and X on discussions related to side hustles. Used Grok and Gemini 2.5 to filter the ones with most sources reporting success & least upfront investment. Sorted into offline & online. Offline side hustles: Odd jobs on Taskrabbit like assembling furniture, mowing lawns or pressure washing. People say the leads are consistent and they can set their own schedule. Dog sitting / walking on Rover then building your client list for long term stays which pay way more as some people avoid doggy day cares. With multiple dogs, people are making a solid income. Being a senior companion through Care or Nextdoor / Facebook Groups. You don’t need medical experience. Just offer rides, company, or light errands. People are making a full time income with just a few clients per week. Organize & promote local meetups related to specific interests. You find the venue and sell tickets through Facebook Events or Meetup. People host business networking, senior events, or dating advice seminars this way and make thousands per event every week. If you live near even a semi-touristy city make a listing on Airbnb experiences for things like walking tours, food tours, bar crawls, couples photography, or other experiences. Earnings vary widely. Online side hustles Create an online newsletter for your city or county using Beehiiv. Write a bit of local news and feature ad spots for local businesses. Promote the newsletter by running Facebook Ads at very low daily spend that are geo-targeted to your city. Depending on population people report making more than their corporate job. Make quiz videos & Reddit story videos using VUBO and post them on TikTok and YouTube shorts. Until you’re eligible for adsense & TikTok creator fund payouts, you can sell your own digital product, an affiliate offer, or get paid by brands to feature their logo/product in your videos. Several people in a Facebook Group report earning a full income doing this. Write and publish ultra specific books on Amazon KDP and rank for long keyword searches. “First Time Mom Guide to C-Section Recovery” or “How to Train a Rescue Greyhound”. People report using AI to help them outline and write books and claim that you can make serious money once you publish many titles. Sell Print on Demand products on Etsy. People are using ChatGPT to make designs then putting them on mugs, tshirts, bottles and candles, and listing them on Etsy. Get inspired by best sellers and don’t reinvent the wheel. Most report using Printify for fulfillment. Make UGC (user generated content) for brands. Find clients through Billo, Collabstr, Fiverr and X. Film some portfolio videos with products around your home. People are making more than jobs by doing this part time and the secret is to craft your niche. Example: health and wellness products. Hope this helps! Now go make that bread! submitted by /u/HappyHippo95 to r/Entrepreneur [link] [comments]

Hi, I was clinically dead for 24 minutes. Ask me anything!
I went into sudden cardiac arrest at home this past February - my husband called 911 and started CPR. It took 24 minutes for EMTs to resuscitate me. After 9 days in the ICU, I was declared “cognitively intact” and have no visible brain damage on MRIs. I also have a normal EEG despite a history of seizures and status epilepticus for over 30 minutes right after resuscitation. I tested positive for COVID at the time of admission to the ICU.I’ll be here for an hour or two to answer your questions about sudden cardiac arrest, heart failure, seizures/epilepsy, S-ICDs (surgically implanted defibrillators), seizure support service dogs, CPR, PTSD, etc etc. Thanks!Proof:Photo with username posted to my Substack newsletter: https://laurencanaday.substack.com/p/ask-me-anythingYou can view the book I wrote (stamped author copy in picture) at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNWVPSSB submitted by /u/Ok_Tomatillo9830 to r/IAmA [link] [comments]

Looking for the same jobs in my 40s as I was in my teens. I'm done
I’m done with the system. Tl:dr: I did all the things. I’m still at the bottom. The not-so-dirty secret to society, which the younger generation is quickly learning earlier and earlier, is that where you start out is a massive determining factor of where you end up. As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I was totally sold on the lie that ‘hard work will get you to where you want to be.’ Spoiler alert, it won’t. No amount of hard work, positive attitude or ‘success hacks’ will change that. I say this as someone who’s 42 years old, and browsing retail jobs as money’s becoming too tight. I’ve worked pretty consistently since age 11. I started delivering papers. Worked every job from call centres, (even cold-calling double glazing sales in the 90s), bar work, retails, sales, administration, data entry, photographer, hospitality work, teaching, lecturing, manufacturing, everything. I did the education thing more than once, and have letters after my name. Later I added a HND and multiple other useless professional or smaller qualifications to my resume. Get an education to get your way out, as the phrase goes. Still, after ticking all the boxes and playing all the games you’re told to, I’m browsing the same shitty jobs as when I was a teenager. The teenager I promised would never have to work those types of jobs once they had a degree. Additionally, despite having worked several senior positions in some of those roles (team manager, senior assistant, senior sales manager, overall ‘boss’ at a few small companies) the highest I’ve ever earned per annum is £16k. When I see the UK average is supposed to be around £30k, I have to wonder if the top earners are skewing the figures. There are a lot more people in my position than folk realise, and that just makes the whole situation more depressing. Realising I’d probably never get anywhere in any of the fields I have experience in, I ‘opted out’ of the rat race, becoming self-employed. Another option to ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps.’ I learned to play various instruments, paying for private tuition and teaching myself. But, the wage a private music teacher generates isn’t enough anymore, even with 15 years experience. Income took a huge hit during the pandemic, and I’ve been living on government grants, loans, and credit cards since. Even coming out of it, I’m still nowhere near back to the level of teaching I once was, and the debt I’m in is too great to overcome, especially with food prices and energy prices skyrocketing. Ever the resilient, enterprising and hard working little tyke that I am, I got my ‘hustle on’ during Covid, and started making money self-publishing on amazon. Just a trickle of income at first, but it was eventually enough to supplement my teaching to scrape by. Now, because any giant corporation can do whatever the hell they want, Amazon has put up the price of their subscription service (reducing subscribers) while lowering the amount they pay creators and removing or automating support staff who keep the whole thing running. Now the teaching wage and writing wage combined isn’t enough, either. I’ve read all the success books. All the words of wisdom. All the self-help stuff, productivity hacks, the works. They all have one glaring omission - it takes money to get anything started and keep the momentum going. We all love a ‘rags to riches’ story (Arnold Schwarzenegger’s is my favourite) but, the truth is, for every one success story there are countless failures. Thousands. Millions. And the failures didn’t fail because they didn’t try as hard, weren’t as talented, smart, or whatever. They failed simply because not everyone can succeed, and that there were massive odds stacked against them. If you are born poor, with parents who don’t set you up, support you, or are simply absent, you start further back than everyone else. Likewise for many, many other situations. There are forces, factors and countless other things you have to overcome others’ don’t even have to consider. Still, we’re told you can ‘rise above it.’ I used to believe it. I had to, in order to function from day to day. Part of me remains in denial about it, but there’s honestly no getting around the fact. It’s not going to ‘happen.’ You aren’t going to ‘make it.’ You will never pay off your mortgage, suddenly find yourself with enough money, or ever not be struggling. For most generations, you’ll probably never retire. You’ll just work, and die. Not in a nihilistic, defeatist way, just a pragmatic, factual reality. Everyone I know who is well off has one of two simple things in common: born wealthy, or wealth-adjacent that they can receive a large enough sum of money when a relative dies, or they know someone who finds them a job through rampant nepotism. Most likely family again. Money is the secret. It’s that simple. Money to promote my work would net me more money. Newsletters, advertising and websites add up. Money to hire experts to make my seo’s catchy and drive either business. Money to fix the things which need fixing about the house which end up costing more patching up over and over in the long run. Poverty pays with interest, as the phrase goes. Every time you have a ‘bit’ saved, something else will go wrong or another bill will be due. That’s just the way it is. So (deep breath) I’ll head back into the workforce, and rejoin the teenagers working to support their studies for the promise of a better life after university, knowing what awaits them. I’ll keep my head down again, work another shitty job, put up with complaints from privileged folk who think everyone’s who works in any industry whatsoever is their slave, all the while knowing there’s a good chance I’m more qualified than them, and worked a damn sight harder to be where I am. Knowing there’s an even greater chance they simply won the ‘society lottery’ by being born into a certain group or class without even knowing it. I’ll be right back where I started, with much less hope, much more years and miles on me, and a lot more broken. Attaching Cv’s to things which then ask me to fill out the same information again, and smiling at interviews and saying bullshit things like ‘I love working as part of a team!’ I’ve failed pre-university teenage me, and society has failed me. Thanks for listening. EDIT - Wow, this blew up! Thanks for all the encouragement, and sharing of similar stories. The Fight Club quote is the one I always come back to, sad to see it still resonates, and that things haven’t changed since 1999. If anything, they’ve gotten worse. For people pointing out I’ve ‘jumped’ a lot, I have 25+ years job experience. Of course I’ve done a lot of things. Conversely, I know folk who’ve stayed at the same job for 20+ years only to be let go without a moment’s notice, and to have hit their pay ceiling 5 years into the job. Their wage has stagnated, while the cost of everything climbs. The system is broken, stop defending it. For the mathematicians out there pointing out £16K per annum is inaccurate or impossible. I don’t know what I would have to gain by lying (internet points?) but most of the jobs I’ve worked have been part time, as that’s all there was available. At one point in my life I was working 3 separate part time jobs while attending college and teaching privately, but even then (collectively) it was under £16K. Growing up poor means I’m good with money, and there are many in worse positions than I, but my point was that doing all the things the right constantly preaches will make you ‘rich’ or ‘lift you out poverty’ haven’t worked. I’ve had a few full time jobs, but they all paid under £16K as they were over a decade ago. When I was working part time, I was still actively looking for full time work, but receiving so many rejection letters was both time consuming and soul destroying. As one commenter pointed out, I could paper the walls with my rejection letters (I did! Back in 2004 with a terrible home photo project I titled ‘Unfortunately’ as every rejection letter has that word in it somewhere.) When you’ve got 10+ years experience, and qualifications on top of that, but you’re still getting rejected from shops and factories it doesn’t inspire you to keep trying. For the speculators I want to add - first degree was in photography. I wanted to do art, but was told photography would have more employment opportunities. It wasn’t until 4 years after my degree I had my first ‘photography job’ - helping clean a studio with another photographer. He’d just won young photographer of the year for a national competition the year before. It’s rough out there. When I finally got a job in photography, it was with a small company which went bust. Then another small company (run by the same guy, yep I’m an idiot, yep I was desperate) I got out before it folded. I could see the warning signs from the previous time. HND (2nd qualification) was in Sound Production. Again, would have preferred music but thought sound production would have more employment opportunities. Luckily, it did! I walked straight into a lecturing job (pure nepotism, a stranger of all people vouched for me. I will be eternally grateful to her.) Loved that job. We had an awesome bunch of students. Paid well even if only part time hours. 3 months into the job the entire department was closed. Saw out the year to let our students finish the course and qualify (and even subbed in the photography department for a staff member who took ill) but that was it. Professional teaching career over. No opportunities since, and I’ve been self-employed since then, supplementing my income where I can. Finally, all those people shitting on the ‘liberal arts’ etc. Art is what makes life worth living. Art with a capital ‘A’ or lowercase. From movies to music, from video games to youtube content creators, to binge watching netflix or whatever, art is how we spend our free time. Whether your answer was ‘learn to code’ or ‘join the army’ (both valid points and career choices) after a day spent coding, or finally getting some down time in a hostile part of the world, art is what you’ll return to in the precious little down time you have. I would argue that this shitty attitude to how worthless ‘art’ is, is how we’ve arrived where we are. If we have nothing to inspire us, why would we rise up? Encourage others? Be slightly less shitty people? In my fifteen years of teaching, during which time more emphasis has been put on English, maths, science etc, children are not only doing worse in the ‘core’ subjects, but they’re less inspired. They’re broken, too. Most teachers are. If the very first institution kids go into is fucked, we’re setting them up for failure. We’re teaching them failure. That there isn’t a better way. That’s just so fucking sad it breaks my heart. Teaching others is my passion. Sharing the knowledge I’ve gained, and hopefully inspiring others as much as possible. Art is the most important thing in my life, whether it’s music or writing or anything I can currently express myself through. Despite this, despite the experience, knowledge and qualifications I have, I’m back to applying to stack shelves. I can accept that, but I don’t have to like it. submitted by /u/EmbarrassedOstrich4 to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

Megathread: Fmr. National Security Advisor John Bolton Alleges President Trump Tied Ukraine Funding to Investigation Into Bidens
President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton alleges in his forthcoming book that the president explicitly told him "he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens," the New York Times first reported. The revelations present a dramatic 11th hour turn in Trump’s Senate impeachment trial. I write Now I Know, a free trivia/interesting facts email newsletter which goes to nearly 150,000 people a day. My third book comes out tomorrow! AMA
My short bio: This is Now I Know. A bunch of redditors already subscribe total and I'm a long-time (13 years!) redditor myself. Tomorrow, my third book hits bookstores everywhere. What I write about is pretty eclectic -- basically, what's something new to me and fascinating. Here are five random ones, to give you a taste: An automotive catalog lists flux capacitors for sale because Back to the Future rocks and to trap competitors who rip off their catalog. Wonder why some coins have ridges on their edges? Here's why. Meet the guy who figured out how to pick out winning scratch-off tickets but instead of cashing in, told the authorities about his discovery. Hershey's once made a chocolate bar which, intentionally, tasted pretty bad. And, just because it's one of my favorites, if you're an Italian-speaker trying to sing like an American, but you don't speak English, you end up with Prisencolinensinainciusol. (Make sure you watch the video on that one.) All the archives are here and you can subscribe for free. They're kind of random, but hopefully interesting. Keep the questions to Now I Know and I'll answer just about anything. I'll also answer questions about baseball, just because. And most other stuff as well. I write Now I Know, a free trivia/interesting facts email newsletter which goes to over 100,000 people a day. My first book came out last year and my second hits shelves on November 1st. AMA!
This is Now I Know. A bunch of redditors already subscribe total and I'm a long-eight-year redditor myself. Last year, the Now I Know book came out and my second book, Now I Know More comes out November 1 and is available for pre-order now. What I write about is idiosyncratic -- if it's new to me and fascinating, I write about it. Here are five recent ones, to give you a taste: The US took Guam from Spain in the Spanish-American War without much of a fight, because the Spaniards holding Guam didn't know they were at war. Before cosmonauts go to space, they pee on a bus. One of the flaws on the ceiling of Grand Central Terminal is also a hidden health message. You actually can die from a broken heart. One creative way to fight Ebola? Write a song about it. And from my first book, reprinted in the newsletter: Where your luggage goes after the airline loses it. All the archives are here and you can subscribe for free. They're kind of random, but hopefully interesting. Keep the questions to Now I Know and I'll answer just about anything. I'll also answer questions about baseball, just because. And most other stuff as well. I write Now I Know, a free trivia/interesting facts email newsletter which goes to nearly 90,000 people a day. Yesterday, I announced that it's being made into a book. AMAA!
This is Now I Know. A bunch of redditors already subscribe total and I'm a long-time (seven years!) redditor myself. Yesterday, I announced the Now I Know book that I've been quietly working on for over a year and comes out October 18th. It hit #274 on Amazon yesterday (proof), which blows my mind. What I write about is pretty eclectic -- basically, what's something new to me and fascinating. Here are five very recent ones, to give you a taste: To help fight chlamydia, Sweden once set up an on-demand condom delivery service and had an awareness day called Chlamydia Monday. Colgate-Palmolive once pulled a snack off the shelves, allegedly because it made people fart too much. Ever notice how, when you're on your cell phone and the call drops, you can almost immediately tell? That's because cell phone companies pump artificial noise into the receiver specifically to make it clear that the other side is still there. In the 1700s, people were killing children in order to get executed. Why? Because suicide would cause them to go to Hell, but they wanted to kill themselves. And a program in Brazil which gives prison inmates time off for riding a stationary bike hooked up to a car battery. This charges the car battery, and the power is used to power street lights. (If anyone here writes for Orange is the New Black, this should totally happen.) And here's one which I think most of us on reddit suffer from... especially me. All the archives are here and you can subscribe for free. They're kind of random, but hopefully interesting. Keep the questions to Now I Know and I'll answer just about anything. I'll also answer questions about baseball, just because. And most other stuff as well.
