Lars Ulrich was right about Napster, piracy, and the fall of popular music
Anyone who lived through the rise of Napster and mass music piracy on the Internet remembers Lars Ulrich of Metallica, how he condemned it, and how he was laughed at as an out of touch old musician who'd made too much money in the old system. I think history has proven him right. Mass industrial-scale piracy was used to break the recording industry not to make way for something that would empower artists more but to bring them to a state of desperation where they'd sell their music for nothing to huge tech companies. These companies could then monetize it through streaming. This cut the bottom out of the music industry financially. As much as people like to say things like music (and writing, and every other kind of art) should be "pure" and "not about the money," the fact is that everything costs money and without a revenue model there's no way to sustain music as a career. If you can't do that, then there's no way musicians can not have "day jobs," which means musicians can never completely dedicate themselves to making music. It also means you can't support an ecosystem of scouts, recording experts, producers, etc. to polish music and make it excellent. Today all we have are a tiny number of over-produced pop acts that basically all sound the same and never take true musical risks. They don't take risks because when you cut the bottom out of a market one of the first things to die is risk taking. Nobody is going to sign a Trent Reznor or a Kurt Kobain or a bunch of weird artists from the hood with a new thing called "hip-hop" because it's not proven, and industries that have had their legs cut off are only willing to take risks on things that are proven. There's no financial "slack" to allow risk taking. You also have a few who have managed to break out using social media and stuff like that, but there's only a tiny number of these. I feel like I could count them on the fingers of one hand. Breaking out big through social media enough to actually make a decent living as a true musician is harder than getting a recording contract ever was. Lars was right. Mass industrial-scale piracy was not the only thing that destroyed music, but it was one of the biggest nails in the coffin. (I am not saying the recording industry was good, and I don't think Lars was arguing that. He was arguing that the new thing is even worse for artists, and I think history has shown that he was right.) submitted by /u/AuthorIntelligent644 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

AITA for Wanting to Get My Daughter a Mini?
Hey there. I am pretty sure I am not the AH but I want to check. So I (64M) have a daughter (25F). She has always been an easy kid and a very responsible and respectable one too. So my daughter and I have been discussing her move from NYC back to our hometown of Chicago. Her being back home means she may need a car. I brought it up with her and she said she’d love a Mini Cooper. We all, my wife included, know they aren’t the most reliable cars, but my daughter has always been on top of things and makes decent money, plus, she has been obsessed with these cars since high school. She wants a 4 door Mini Hardtop in white. I think it’s smart since she has a dog (standard poodle) and it’d overall make her life easier. Like vet trip, par trips, grocery shopping, commuting to work, so on. This would be her first car ever though and that is where I run into issues with my brother (67M). My brother says it’s stupid and we shouldn’t entertain my daughter’s “bougie-ness”. He says she should get a practical car. When I said she loves those cars, he started ranting. He said my daughter is spoiled and always had been. He called her an Oreo (Black on the outside, white on the inside), and said I have made her entitled and bratty. So much so that my daughter wants to use me to get her a car. This is false. My daughter can pay the monthly payments, gas, insurance, and more alone. It’s just as her parents, my wife and I want to help. We did mention to my brother that we were thinking about buying it and our daughter could pay us back with the monthly payments instead. I want to emphasize that my daughter is not spoiled. She is very hardworking, very smart, and very thankful for the life we have given her. That said, she has always liked expensive stuff, clothes, cars, nails, hair, restaurants. But she is still very respectful and is in no way bratty. I called my brother a “women hating AH”. I then said that he was bitter about the fact that my daughter defied the rich kid stereotype by being smart and considerate. I said he and his boys live a world where struggling is the only way they can deserve things. That he thinks my daughter deserves nothing because she’s some spoiled princess. I said whatever issue he is having with his 30 something year old girlfriend should not be projected on my kid. Then I kicked him out and haven’t spoken to him for about 8 days. He has texted me saying I took it too far bringing up his lower income and so called “dating preferences”. Our mother says I was mean to someone who has been acting out due to stress. Was I the AH here? submitted by /u/No-Temperature-9372 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

HK nails Rent Money Coalition
RMC head leadership, including leader and main FC Bad Dodger as well as his right hand man Herculetz facing permanent bans for operating massive RMT purchasing operation. Buckle up folks, it's about to be a long one. Preface Many of you will claim these logs are faked. Some will claim they're manufactured via photoshop, AI, or other means. That's okay - you see, it doesn't actually matter whether or not you believe them... Team Security at CCP has received an order of magnitude more documentation in the past few days than what I'll provide here. Information including over 2 Trillion isk in direct RMT purchases, verified directly to CCP by the seller, out of game money transfers, real names linked to payment accounts, exact timestamped in-game transfers to Against All Authorities. holding corporation "Dont disband my alliance please", a month of out-of-game conversations directly with Bad Dodger who solicited the illicit purchase of isk, and all relevant info related to the advertisement, soliciting, and contacts of a small portion of RMCs ongoing massive RMT operation. Background RMC has a long held history of being known as a potential RMT powerhouse, with such bangers as Bad Dodgers Cash4Supers and horribly hidden contract RMT. It's a well open secret that a vast number of their contracts, often paid to lowsec groups to save themselves as they're atrocious FCs/pvpers, are funded by whispers and rumors of massive RMT operations. These have included paying Snuffed Out to save them from notorious smallgang AT losers Goryn Clade as well as paying BIGAB over 20-30 times in the last 5 years: most notably for the semi-recent eviction of Providence residents Rekking Crew. I don't say this to blame these groups for taking the contracts (maybe you do), merely to illustrate the seemingly endless wealth pouring out of RMCs wallets, all despite Bad Dodgers notable commentary that they have constant wealth issues and face financial mismanagement in highly active Russian telegram community 100mn ab. An Old Dog Learns New Tricks This brings us closer to today: RMC is lead and run by Head FC Bad Dodger. For any of you old people who think that name sounds eerily familiar? That's because it is familiar. Bad Dodger is merely his current main, created in the midst of COVID lockdowns globally for his return to the glory of leading the once-known Red Alliance. But, there's a problem you see: 14 years ago, under a different character by the name of Silent Dodger he also ran Red Alliance. Not just their fleets and day to day activities though. What else did he run for Red Alliance you ask? Well, he ran their fucking wallet out of isk, RMTing it all to turn into Rubles to buy himself a car (Toyota? my russian isn't amazing). You can find a written thread correlating to the above Soundcloud interview here. How Any Of This Matters Today Recently, as the Drone regions fight club has kicked off post-Horde collapse, RMC quickly arrived in an attempt to stake a new claim of space and separate themselves from the equally poorly run CVA and Provibloc. It didn't start out very well for RMC, failing to evict a group a fraction of their size from The Spire and quickly running into a multitude of groups willing to temporarily bury their hatchets to bully an even better enemy - Rent Money Coalition. The WHCFC agreed to arrive in The Spire to finish the eviction of RMCs arrival attempt in Drones in late January, where our logs begin. Recently, as RMC snowballed efforts nearly entirely backed by Mercenary muscle, groups fighting against RMC finally ran into a wall with the additional arrival of Hold My Probes. Their massive fleets additions simply proved too much when added with the mercenary fleets from Camelot, Bring My Drake, Ferrata, Snuffed Out, LSH and Parallaxis, added on top of continuous help from Absolute Order, CVA + Provibloc, Minmatar Fl33t Alliance, and most recently a new mercenary hired to help them in UStz - BIGAB. The Silver Bullet Failing to take down their newly anchored keepstar this week in 1I5-0V marked the end of offensive EUtz efforts against RMC + Probes. Outnumbered more than 3:2, the groups attempting to stop the slow sprawl of Rent Money Coalition realized there was simply nothing more to do and resorted to figuring out how to batten defenses for UStz timers before realizing BIGAB was also now on RMC payroll, thus giving them a definitive numbers/cap advantage in UStz as well. When all hope seemed lost, a precious gem fell into my discord DMs. After calling this individual an extraordinary amount of foul names and curse words, I realized that they had nothing left to lose in Eve. No isk, no assets, no characters they cared about - they had stripped/sold it all to RMT directly to Rent Money Coalition. They quickly offered to send one final fuck you into the Eve universe and take down fellow RMTers on their way. The Smoking Gun "What is CCP supposed to do with the untrustworthy word of one admitted RMTer trying to accuse someone else of RMT," I hear you asking. Buckle the fuck up kids, because this man provided it all in full cooperation with Team Security: Real money transfers - including personally identifying information - both names and email addresses (they were too brazen to use fake names) redacted here for obvious reasons. Timestamped transactions/hangar drops DIRECTLY TO the exec corp of Dodgers right hand man Herculetz. (1) (2) All relevant information pertaining to the advertisement and soliciting of the RMT. A treasure trove of information directly from Bad Dodger documenting various methods RMC utilize to avoid bans for RMT. (1) (2) (3) (4) Direct admissions and requests for RMT purchase by Dodger, telling the individual to apply into the Against all Authorities exec corporation to hide the transfers. (1) (2) (3) There's so much more, and if popular request deems it, I may take some time to write additional parts up for this post when it isn't 4:23 am for me. We've got Herculetz directly admitting the isk we can prove he paid cash for went to cover mercenary fees and SRP bills for Snuffed Out, BIGAB, and Hold My Probes. We've got Dodger admitting other groups like Camelot and Bring My Drake were also paid (with isk we can prove was RMTed). Over a month of logs, transactions totalling well over $5k USD, trillions of isk directly sold to Rent Money Coalition leadership without a middleman... The list goes on, it may be without a doubt, the most extensive RMT slamdunk Team Security has ever been handed. All told, nearly 10 Trillion isk has been purchased by RMC leadership (this isn't our only source above) in the last few months of their Drones campaign. Massive CCP wallet removals for a large number of groups and players are likely in the immediate future, along with the banning of an unknown number of direct participants from RMCs highest levels of leadership. On a quick personal note - this is certainly one of the more depressing moments in my Eve career. Asking people to join fleets as an FC and content creator, to know you're demolishing your opponent, and to know there's nothing you can do as they're running outside of the bounds of the game to pay "friends" dragon hoard sized piles of isk to save them is incredibly demoralizing. Knowing it's all happening so close to you, but just outside of your reach to prove without hard evidence falling into my lap at the 12th hour is horrible - and CCP is to blame for allowing it to go on, unabated, for so many years. submitted by /u/Jimmy__Michaels to r/Eve [link] [comments]

I miss when the costumes felt dreamy instead of distracting
I know none of us watch Bridgerton for historical accuracy. It's always been stylized and a bit unrealistic (the music, outfits etc. ) and that's part of the charm. But this season feels like they’ve pushed it too far. There’s full sequin outfits that honestly looks as out of place as someone pulling out an iPhone at a ball. It completely takes me out of the scene. Last season we noticed Pen's lashes and acrylic nails. Small, modern touches that were distracting but manageable. This feels louder. It feels less “dreamy Regency fantasy” and more drama stage costume. Part of what made the show beautiful was that soft, old-money, old-English aesthetic. I miss when the clothes felt like they belonged in that world instead of competing with it. submitted by /u/InternationalLeek967 to r/Bridgerton [link] [comments]

As a girl gamer, the kingsman drama hurts
To be clear I 1000% agree with kingsman. I do not believe this “set women back” or anything. It just hurts to see women in a male dominated setting have a voice and mess it up so bad. Imagine if they actually had empathy and decided to lock in to help him out. There could’ve been so much positivity even if they didn’t get Top 3. Though it’s not everyone, everywhere you see people talking about the situation somewhere in there it’s “women can’t handle criticism “ “women are etc.” This is why so many women do not try to go pro and play competitive games like this. Women like me who have been playing old COD, playing in competitive lobbies for years and understand this is just part of the nature of the game, but to never become it. Kingsman was wayyy more reasonable than I or any of my old cod friends would have been. Like wdym I’m “hurting her feelings?” Also Cece has never had a panic attack in her life clearly. These girls just said “f that how can I relive my teen years and be as uncompromising and obnoxious as possible”. This guy is a COLLEGE student. Even just 1k is a lot of money. As someone who works and goes to school and does nails for a living I UNDERSTAND. Becoming a streamer is something I wanted to do for a while but honestly ts gets toxic to where I don’t even think I’d enjoy it in the long run. Like Cece you may not be the event organizer but as captain it was so easy to talk to Basim and let him know to switch King out. She just didn’t care enough. Cece and Zaza are not the baseline of girl gamers. Tl;Dr Girl streamers like Cece ruins the gaming scene for us women submitted by /u/AlternateBabie to r/rivals [link] [comments]

AITA for banning my mom from meeting my baby after she sold my dead 5-year-old's toys at a garage sale 2 weeks after the funeral and got her nails done with the money?
I found my mother in my dead daughter's bedroom with garbage bags, loading up toys like she was clearing out a storage unit. She didn't even look up when I walked in. Just kept grabbing stuffed animals off the shelf and shoving them in. My daughter's favorite bunny, the one she slept with every single night, was already in the bag. I could see its ear sticking out. "What are you doing." Not even a question. I couldn't make it a question. "Sweetie, I'm helping you move forward. You can't keep this room like a shrine forever." My daughter died two weeks ago. Car accident. She was five. I grabbed the bag from her hands and she actually tried to pull it back. We stood there having a tug of war over my dead child's belongings in a room that still smelled like her strawberry shampoo. "Mom. Get out." "You're being unreasonable. This isn't healthy. I'm doing this because I love you." She said it like she was doing me a favor. Like she was meal prepping for me or picking up my dry cleaning. I told her to leave. She huffed, said I'd thank her later, and took the bags anyway. Said she was having a garage sale that weekend and this stuff needed to go to kids who could actually use it. I was too destroyed to fight. My husband was at work. I just sat on my daughter's bed and stared at the empty shelf where the bunny used to be. She had the garage sale. Sold everything. My daughter's toys, her books, her little kitchen set we got her for Christmas. The one she played with every morning while I made real breakfast. All of it, gone. I found out from my sister, who drove by and saw our stuff on tables in my mom's driveway. She called me crying. I didn't even go over there. I couldn't. My mother made $400. I know because she told me. She came over three days later with her nails done, new hair color, face all glowy from some facial treatment. "I used the money for some self-care," she said. "I've been so stressed helping you through this tragedy. You're not the only one suffering, you know." I told her to leave and not come back. She cried. Said I was being cruel, that she did nothing wrong, that I was punishing her for trying to help me heal. My father called me later saying I was breaking my mother's heart and she was just trying to be supportive in her own way. I blocked them both. Six months passed. Therapy, medication, somehow getting out of bed every day. My husband and I tried to figure out if we could survive this. Some days we could. Some days we couldn't look at each other without falling apart. Then I got pregnant. Surprise. We weren't trying. We were barely functioning. But it happened. We decided to keep it. Decided maybe this was life trying to let us be parents again, even though nothing would ever replace what we lost. We knew that. Everyone told us we were rushing it. We didn't care. I'm five months along now. We found out we're having a boy. We planned a small gender reveal, just close friends and my husband's family. His parents have been incredible through everything. They never tried to fix us or rush us or tell us how to grieve. My sister mentioned it to my mom. I didn't tell her to, she just talks to everyone about everything. My mother showed up at my house yesterday. I opened the door and there she was with a gift bag. "I heard about the baby," she said. "I'm so excited to be a grandma again." Again. Like my daughter was a practice run. "You're not invited to anything," I told her. "What? Honey, I'm your mother. Of course I'm coming to the gender reveal. When is it?" "Never. Not for you." "You can't keep me away from my grandchild over something so petty. I got rid of some old toys. That was six months ago. You need to let it go." Old toys. My daughter's things were old toys. "You sold my dead daughter's toys at a garage sale two weeks after she died and used the money to get your nails done. You don't get to meet this baby." She started crying. Big dramatic sobs like she was the victim. "I was trying to help you move on! Everyone said you were stuck in your grief! I was being a good mother!" "Get off my property." "You're punishing me for caring about you! This is cruel! That baby is my grandchild too!" My husband came outside and physically walked her to her car. She screamed the whole way about how we were going to regret this, how she'd get grandparents rights, how we were keeping her grandson from her out of spite. Now my entire family is calling me. My father, my aunts, my cousins. All saying the same thing. It's been six months. She made a mistake. She's sorry. Family is family. The baby deserves to know his grandmother. My sister is the only one on my side, but even she thinks I should at least let my mom apologize properly. My husband says it's my choice completely and he'll support whatever I decide, but I can tell even he thinks I'm being harsh. His parents stayed neutral when I told them, just said they understood it was complicated. I'm starting to feel crazy. Like maybe I am holding onto something I should forgive. Maybe I'm using the baby as punishment. Maybe I'm being cruel. But every time I think about letting her back in, I remember walking into that bedroom and seeing those garbage bags. I remember that bunny's ear sticking out. I remember her telling me she was stressed and needed a spa day. Am I being an asshole for keeping my mom away from my baby over this? with ALL UPDATES submitted by /u/KINOH1441728 to r/FoundandExpose [link] [comments]

What would you (Roofing Contractor) say if a customer offered to tear off the old shingles to save money?
Honestly wondering if someone was a cheapskate and looking to cut costs in any way possible and offered to do all the tear off of the old shingles/tar paper, nails, etc. so that when you got to the house all you had to do was put on new shingles (under layers, etc.). Is this something you would consider? Or would you tell them to take a hike and turn down the job? submitted by /u/Over-Plankton6860 to r/Roofing [link] [comments]

AITAH for calling Child Protective Services on my younger sister?
I 18(F) graduated high-school at 17 years old past year. It was an amazing accomplishment. I recently got my CNA license and I work full time as a CNA. Unfortunately I still live with my mother. I’ve been trying to move out for a long time now. My younger sister, was irresponsible and wasn’t on birth control. She got pregnant when she was 15 last year, and she had the baby at 16. Her baby is 6 months old. My younger sister doesn’t lift a finger to try to help with her baby. My mother and my younger sister pushed all of her responsibilities on to me. Just because I have a full time job and she doesn’t. My younger sister can work part time. She just refuses to get a job because “She’s 16 years old and isn’t responsible enough to get a job” But yet you were responsible enough to have a baby? She knew she was active and refused to get on birth control. My mother and I tried talking to her about c*****s and plan b. She refused to even hear us out. I brought up my concerns to my mother about my sister and her baby (my niece). My mother said, “Well she’s only 16, and you’re a grown adult. As long as you live in this house you are to help your sister, family and contribute!” I work overnight shifts. I’ve been taking care of this baby for months. My sister always goes out with her baby daddy. She always goes out to eat, and her baby daddy pays for her hair and nails, but doesn’t contribute to the baby. And she always uses the money she gives him on herself and not the baby. I’ve been the one buying formula, diapers, clothes etc. I am constantly watching the baby because my mother and sister guilt trip me if I don’t. I watch her every single night when I get off work. When I don’t watch her my mother has her, and my sister doesn’t help my mother either. How is her being irresponsible my issue? Last week I had gotten off work at 7 in the morning. My mother yelled at me to watch the baby. I asked where my sister was, my mother told me to mind my own business. Two days had went by last week, when she wasn’t there. I was fed up. My two days off work I’ve been taking care of the baby with no help from my mom. Then the night after she came home. I was furious and tore into her. She told me, “To mind my own f****** business.” Shortly after that I called CPS. I called CPS four days ago. I explained to them, “My younger sister is neglecting her baby. She refused to get a job, I’ve been the one taking care of physically and financially for months on end. That she left without telling anyone where she went. That she gets her hair and nails done but she won’t pay for diapers or anything for the baby.” Then this morning CPS came to the door. They came because of my report of neglect. They did their examinations, and the baby was fine physically. But right in front of my sister, while she was present, I explained everything in detail. I explained that I’m not able to take care of the baby full time and I get no help from my mother. Unfortunately, my niece was removed from the home and placed into the care of the father’s mom. In my area, CPS does try the best the can to keep the family together, they only remove them if the child is in need of serious medical attention, or is neglected and the situation can’t be resolved with resources. I only found out that my niece was placed with the father’s mom, because the father of the child’s mother reached out to me and told me the baby was safe. I feel bad but I shouldn’t be responsible for taking care of a baby that isn’t mine. Now my mother told me I have 30 days to leave the house, luckily my aunt knows the situation and is kind enough to take me in. AITAH? Edit: Just to avoid anymore confusion. My sister got pregnant by her BOYFRIEND. Her boyfriend is the babies father. My sisters boyfriend is 16 like she is. submitted by /u/diva_on_the_left to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for waking my MIL up in scary costumes because she keeps me up at night?
So my MIL has been staying with us until the end of the month because she’s “between leases.” My husband offered her our guest room, and I tried to be gracious about it… but I’m running on fumes and I snapped in a very petty way. For context: I work from home as a nail tech. I officially start seeing clients around 8:30 AM, but I get up at 5 AM. Between prep, sanitizing, and setting up my workstation, I need that quiet morning time. It makes really good money, and it works out well because my husband is a surgeon and his hours are all over the place. We balance each other. But that balance has been absolutely shredded since MIL moved in. She keeps me up constantly with her: Nighttime nonsense. She’ll knock on our bedroom door at 11:30 or midnight because she “just remembered something” or thinks she heard a noise outside. She’ll put the TV on full blast in the living room directly below us because she “can’t sleep without sound.” She microwaves snacks at 1 AM. Basically, I never get a full night’s rest. Nosiness. She critiques everything in the fridge, rearranges my kitchen cabinets, and makes backhanded comments like, “Oh, you do nails from home? Isn’t that just a hobby?” Bathroom hog. I’ve been late for clients because she sits in our only upstairs bathroom for nearly an hour every morning, scrolling on her phone with the door locked. Condescending commentary. She tells me I shouldn’t drink so much coffee, suggests I should “dress up more for my clients,” and acts like I’m 15 years old instead of a grown adult running my own successful business. After about two weeks of this, I was sleep-deprived to the point of tears. My husband never noticed because he can sleep through anything (surgeon privilege, I guess). So… I snapped. The first time, I decided if she was going to keep me awake at random times, I was going to wake her up at random times. But not just wake her up. Make it memorable. I’m not just a nail tech—I’m also one hell of a makeup artist (not to toot my own horn, but my Halloween looks are infamous among my friends and kids). So the next morning after she kept me up until 1 AM, I put on my old creepy clown costume. Full prosthetic makeup, shadowy eye sockets, painted grin, rainbow wig. At 6:30 AM, I leaned over her bed and whispered, “Good morning” in the darkest voice I could muster. She screamed. Another night, she woke me up at 12:15 because she “smelled gas.” (Spoiler: she had left the oven on herself.) So the following morning I wore my inflatable T-rex suit, painted shadows on the mask thingy to make it scarier, and stomped into her room in the dark. She nearly fell out of bed. Then came the grizzly bear. I painted myself up to look wild, added shadows under my eyes, and crouched on all fours right next to her face at 5:45 AM. A low growl woke her. I’ve done this three or four times now, at random intervals—because she keeps me up at random times. Funny enough, since I started this, I’ve actually slept better. I think it’s partly catharsis and partly because she’s been quieter at night, maybe out of fear that I’ll repay her in kind. And yeah—I’ll admit it, I’m probably a bitch for scaring an old woman like this. But when you’re bone-tired, petty, and done with someone treating your home like a playground, you stop caring about being nice. The problem? She told my husband. He had no idea this was happening, and when he found out, he absolutely lit into me. He said I was being “cruel,” “unstable,” and “harassing” his mother. I told him I was just meeting her energy with the same level of disruption she was giving me. He argued that I should have told him and he would’ve handled it, but he’s never awake to see what she does. Now he’s saying I need to apologize to her. I feel like she should apologize to me for wrecking my peace, my sleep, and my sanity in my own house. So, AITA and who should apologize to who? (I’m provably going to end up apologizing because I feel bad. I just need second opinions.) Edit to the post that I forgot to mention: did try talking to her like a normal adult before this. I asked her if she could please keep the TV volume lower at night and not knock on our door so late. Her response? She literally turned the TV on right then, cranked it up, and told me she “can’t hear well.” My husband insists on his stupid movie theater speakers for his action movies, so it was LOUD LOUD. submitted by /u/EstablishmentThis659 to r/CharlotteDobreYouTube [link] [comments]

Dear Blizzard
You seem to have a dilemma. Your main customer base are 35+ year olds who remember the good old days. The ones who played The Lost Vikings, Warcraft 1-3, Starcraft 1-2, Diablo 1-2, etc. We played WoW from 2004, we waited outside the store at midnight to purchase TBC, and again when WotLK launched. We remember the glory days. When you created a ticket in-game and you received that glorious in-game whisper from a blue colored GM whispering you, the excitement! Sometimes the GM support was quick, but after a new patch there may have been a queue of an hour, as patch launches were always a bit messy. We remember the Blizzard that actually had customer support, in stead of being brushed off with an automated email with zero relevance to your question. Classic WoW launched in 2019. We think we wanted it, and we did. There was a massive resurgence of WoW. All us 'old people' came flooding back in, desperate to relive those old days. But something changed... there was no customer support like back in the day, there were barely any GMs, it became clear that the Classic WoW team was run by a skeleton crew. Just a quick cash grab. With TBC the writing was on the wall, as we saw the store mounts flying around. Then WotLK was the nail in the coffin for me with the WoW token. I haven't looked back since. We have money, we would love to spend money on glorious Blizzard games as they were back in the day. Unfortunately, you have kept disappointing us. So, many of us flocked to private servers. Not because we're too poor to pay the monthly sub, but because YOU kept disappointing us. Milking us for every cent you could. Decimating your customer support department, decimating your GMs, telling us "you think you do, but you don't", asking us "don't you have phones?". The absolute audacity to ask your PC gamer audience, who paid a fortune to come to Blizzcon, to switch to a mobile game... It's such an easy fix to be honest. Rebuild your customer support, rehire your army of GMs, make clear rules for servers (Hardcore, GDKP allowed/not allowed, boosting allowed/not allowed, etc., ask your customer base...) and have your GMs enforce these rules relentlessly. And for the love of god, stop trying to milk us for every penny you can while offering the bare minimum in return. Offer us this, regain our trust, and we might return. Sincerely, An 'old' and extremely disappointed Blizzard fan. submitted by /u/ApetteRiche to r/classicwow [link] [comments]

OOP's boss doesn't take their refusal to work overtime well
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is luckyladylucy. She posted in r/antiwork Thanks to u/BakingGiraffeBakes for the rec! Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old. Mood Spoiler: frustrating but with some schadenfreude Original Post: June 18, 2025 Title: He didn’t take it well My new boss, I’ll call him Paul, asked me last week why I was leaving early on Friday. I told him I didn’t want to hit overtime. (This is a whole other story.) He reminded me that overtime is time and a half, and he’ll totally authorize me to work a few extra hours. I said no. Just no. That’s it. One word. His face did something scary and he walked away, but then he came back and told me he really appreciated knowing where we stood and thanked me for my honesty. It felt… wrong. Mandatory overtime is legal where I’m at, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Bearing in mind that HR is there to protect the company, not you ... it might be worth getting in a notice with them that you felt pressured to work overtime and then uncomfortable when you declined. That way if he puts something silly in a performance review, you can ask if it's retaliation and cite your HR complaint. OOP: Actually, HR was the one pressuring us (me) into overtime before Paul came onboard. So they’re part of the problem. Commenter: OOF. Dust off that resume lady, this is not a good place. OOP: Workin on it! I’ve been interviewing on my lunch breaks. Commenter: "No" is a powerful word. lots of folks aren't used to hearing it as a standalone sentence. We often explain the "no" to soften it, maybe apologize for saying it: "no, sorry I can't" or the like. It would make sense that he wasn't sure of how to respond, given that he offered to authorize the OT and would expect you to acquiesce. Good sign tho that he came back to you and thanked you for the honesty. OOP: I think it might change the narrative a bit if I mention that I’m a woman? I know what it looks like when a man is upset with a woman’s “no”. Commenter: Sounds like a good boss? Who ultimately took it well no? Unless he refers this to HR OOP: On paper, yes. It went well. In practice… I just got a weird vibe. The hair on the back of my neck stood up. Update Post: July 11, 2025 (almost 1 month later) We all knew I was going to be fired. It’s not a surprise. But the good news is, I took a few very vital functions with me. No one else knows how to do them, and there’s no documentation. My old teammates are telling me they haven’t seen old “Paul” around in a while, meaning he’s over in the head honcho building getting drilled. EDIT to answer some questions: When I was hired, a whopping four months ago, there was never any expectation or discussion of overtime. It was to be avoided, unless absolutely necessary. They fired that manager (for standing up for us) who ensured work was divided fairly and we didn’t need to work overtime. I don’t claim to be absolutely necessary. I just know how to do the uploads for paying two of our biggest vendors. They’re definitely screwed over, but not “oh god we’re going to lose the business”. They’re just going to pay a buttload in late fees. I’d say a medium amount of screwed. Some of OOP's Comments: On saying no if they ask OOP to come back: Hit the nail on the head. I wouldn’t set foot back in that place for all the money in the world Commenter: I can't wait for the next update when those vital functions are needed and they're banging at your door! OOP: It’ll be a while before that happens. It takes time for the things I did to build up and become a problem. Commenter: I want to know the scary thing Paul's face did. OOP: I can’t really explain it. If you’re a woman, you’ve experienced it. If you’re not a woman, you probably haven’t. Commenter: Why do OPs make up fake names? "We'll call him Paul." Ain't nobody on the face of this planet going to know any difference in your story if it's Paul, randy or Julian. OOP: Believe it or not, his real name is pretty identifiable, and I know he’s active on Reddit and this sub. Editor's note: OOP is a frequenter of BORU, so she will most likely see these comments. As always, please keep things civil! submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my mom I’ll never forgive her if she fucks up my adoption
I’ve (14f) been living with my aunt (my mom’s sister) since I was 8. It was originally because of an issue with her ex boyfriend and CPS placed me with my aunt then she used to say she couldn’t handle 4 kids as a single mom so I had to stay with my aunt then we just didn’t talk for a few years. My aunt has been trying to adopt me for years. We’re finally able to try to get my mom’s parental rights terminated because she didn’t speak to any of us or send money or anything for 4 years. I really like living with my aunt. On Tuesdays we go out to eat. She says we take turns choosing the restaurant but I get to choose almost every week. On Fridays we order pizza and watch a movie and eat ice cream in our pajamas on the couch. When I started middle school she started taking me to get my nails done with her so now we do that every other Saturday and at least once a month (sometimes more during summers or school breaks) we get to visit her condo in the mountains. There’s a little beach and the past couple years she’s been letting me hang out with my friends or alone by the beach or downtown or at the pool or wherever as long as I keep my location on my phone and I’m home by the time it gets dark. After my mom got notice that her rights were going to be terminated she got in contact with my aunt and started emailing my old email address saying she misses me and she wants to see me. She’s sent me pictures of her new family and she’s sending my aunt money so she can say she’s a part of my life and she’s taking care of me. My aunt told me not to contact my mom yet and to let her take care of everything. I listened for a while then my mom sent me a picture of a bed at her house with a bunch of shopping bags on it and she said that’s my bed and she has presents for me and she can’t wait for me to come home. I emailed her back and told her that I don’t want to live with her. I haven’t seen her or talked to her for 4 years and I don’t even know who half the people in the pictures she sent me are. I also said that I really love living here and that if she fucks up my adoption I’ll never forgive her and I’ll never speak to her after I turn 18. My mom called my aunt crying about what I said and my aunt got mad at me because she told me not to contact my mom. Now I’m wondering if I was the asshole for contacting my mom when I wasn’t supposed to and being rude to her. submitted by /u/siblingbond to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Homeowner. My “One Bag To Rule Them All” kit
AKA r/tools - you have created a monster. I’m fully aware that these tools are, by and large, better than my skills. Yes, many are quite new looking. Shoot me. I clean my tools. And I’m not a pro. Actually, I’m not even a handyman’s areshole. But fuck it. I decided a few years back to stop buying shitty tools when I needed something specific. I discovered Reddit around the same time. To be honest, you fuckers helped create this. However, this bag has everything I need to get shit done around the house and then some. The bag is the Toughbuilt Medium Tool Tote. I know there’s lots of speculation about the company, but the gear fucking rocks. And is well priced. This tote is solid AF. Gear Knipex 180mm Pliers Wrench. Easily the best size for this beauty. I love it. 200mm Cobra. Ditto Twin Grips. Fuck these are useful given I only got them cos they look cool. Grabbier than my uncle after 6 scotch and drys. 200mm combo pliers. Not Linesman. These are better. Come at me. 185mm Needle nose pliers Weird small 145mm useful needle nose pliers with a cutout for holding nails because I am kinda uncoordinated. 160mm needle nose pliers for, like, small places. My daughter who is crafty loves these, actually. Flush cutters. So I don't hurt my delicate hands on those nasty cable ties Diagonal cutters. Note - Aussies are not allowed to play with electricity unless licences. The VDE gear is largely because I got them on special and the handles are actually awesome. I ‘definitely’ wouldn’t move a wall outlet all by myself. Wera Philips 2. Obvs VDE Philips 1 and 3.5mm flat - see above for VDE notes. Tool Check Plus. So fucking useful. 1/4” Zyklop. Not nearly as useful. But 11/10 coolness factor. No regrets. Metric Allen Keys. We don't need Imperial. Except when we do. Then I'm shit outta luck, frankly Stubby Ratchet. For screwing in small places. Oh to be young again Vessel Chisel Driver. This sucker is amazing. Literally a screwdriver with though tang and striking plate that is actually a chisel. Like, $20. Go buy one. Philips ball end ratchet. I probably grab this the most. Cheap. Useful. Great tip. Actually super annoying switch positioning, but I forgive it. 6mm flat head. I prefer this to the Wera flat head because it feels more… pryable. You know what I mean. PB Swiss Ratcheting screwdriver. Yeah. I watched all the reviews on You Tube. I spent too much money. I don’t use it a lot. But when I do I feel like if Thor would if he had a screwdriver not a hammer. Pick Set. Replaced a $5 eBay set without being any more functional. However, sexy AF. Actually, one of the picks has a two way bend and is actually amazingly useful. This is hands down my most pointless tool purchase. I love them. Mini Empire Speed Square. Small enought for the bag. Not big enough to be useful. Pico Pencils. I have two because I bought the 0.9mm first, literally not realising they were not the ones everyone raves about. The 3030 is the GOAT. I have spare leads as well Temu pointy texter - it has a long skinny point perfect for marking screw holes. I stole this from my boss. Eraser. My crafty daughter? ‘Borrowed’ this from her. Sharpie. Classic. Lufkin Nite Eye 8m tape measure. Best ever. Not gonna argue with the Fat Boy freaks. Milwaukee utility knife. As much as I’m Dewalt and Makita - Milwaukee nailed this one. It’s almost an iconic design by now. Stabila Torpedo Level. Sola are better, when you are old and your eyes are fucked. But the form factor of this is perfect for fitting in the bag. And it is expensive enough to satisfy. 4140 pry bar - this is a cheapie, not the ARES. Even I have limits apparently. Teensy Vaughan Pry Bar. 6”, I think. Whatever the fuck an inch is. Handy. Compact. Apparently still made in the USA. Whatever. I like the colour. Purdy 6 in 1 painters tool. This fucker was $12 even in Australia (we get raped, price wise) and is amazing. Second most used tool after the Milwaukee utility knife. Full tang and strike plate FTMFW. UNI-T Multimeter. Not that I use this. As Aussies are not allowed to play with electricity. Really good quality for the price though. Franklin Stud Finder. I use the fuck outta this and wish I bought a decent model decades ago. It also always confirms that I am a stud which is useful. Klein folding jab saw. Really handy. Way too chunky for my little hands though. Not as much fun as a multitool Wiss Utility Shears. Really great cutters, hate the handles. Wiss 10” scissors. Great blades, great ergonomics too. Mumme 225g Cross Pein Hammer. Hey. I needed a tiny hammer to fit the bag. Also, I’m a klutz. Mumme is an Aussie brand that even Aussies have never heard of. Again, nice shade of blue though. Whats the point of a hammer if it’s not pretty? Irwin Auto Wire Strippers. These are ok. I don’t do electrical stuff though, obvs Convoy Right Angle Flashlight. Great work light - Nichia 519a 5k LED for perfect colour rendition. For when I’m not looking a different coloured electrical cables. Check out r/flashlight if that makes no sense. Be prepared to lose several days if you do. SOFIRN S21 Headlamp. Rotate the light to change from spot to flood to both. Makes me feel like a nerdy Cyberman. According to my wife it also makes look as sexy as a dead hedgehog. WD40. Smells great. Also lubes shit. Fuck you lube deniers. 3 in 1 oil. Useful, apparently. I've never used it. Duct tape, teflon tape, electrical tape. Also Super Glue for when I need to fasten my fingertips to each other.. Small plastic case of fasteners. Which are always either too long, too short or the wrong gauge. Reusable cable ties. Well, fuck. Seriously the third most useful thing i discovered on this here subreddit! Riggers gloves. Worn when I need to feel more manly. Which is most of the time. Don't judge. Dewalt Impact driver. Tiny little poweful ugga dugga beast. I seriously laugh when I see people scoff at this becuase it’s Atomic branded in some markets. This little beast will drive screws through anything. I'm literally afraid to use speed 3 - pretty sure you need some kind of trade certification first. Long Vessel PH2 bit, centre punch (Rennsteig cos it’s German and I am a wanker, obvs), nail punch. So yeah. It weighs a shit ton but makes me feel like a DIY god. Every single time I hang something on the wall. Flame away. I can take it. submitted by /u/rhymeswithoranj to r/Tools [link] [comments]

Wow! 12 year old magnetic nail polish still works!
So stay with me here…From about 2011-2017 I was HUGE into nail polish. My mains were OPI (had about 80 bottles at one point), a few KB Shimmers, a few Butter London, and a few Essie. I quit doing my own when I got into SNS nails. Anyway, I’m getting back into painting my own nails again in an effort to save money (ha ha ha), save my poor nails, and also because it was very relaxing and rewarding doing my nails myself. Back in 2012 I purchased my first magnetic polish. It was all the rage at the time lol I honestly didn’t even think I owned it anymore until I checked today. This little Sally Hansen polish has stood up!!! I tested it on one nail and it went on seamlessly. The magnetic effect worked (though I’m super rusty at application) just fine. There’s no big reason to sharing this other than to share my shock at a drug store polish still being applicable 12 years later, and the fact that I have proof that magnetic polish did exist before 2022 lol Whenever I mention this polish to people they don’t remember or think I’m confused (crazy?)lol submitted by /u/Mtnclimber09 to r/RedditLaqueristas [link] [comments]

Reposting old DD: The Bigger Short. How 2008 is repeating, at a much greater magnitude, and COVID ignited the fuse. GME is not the reason for the market crash. GME was the fatal flaw of Wall Street in their infinite money cheat that they did not expect.
Because it has been 84 years since some legendary DD posts have been released and a lot of people are having trouble finding the original posts, i figured it might be a good idea to repost some old DD by a few Superstonk legends. This one is by our favourite pomeranian ape Criand. For those unsure about the current events aroud GME and/or newer apes, make sure to read the DD of old. 0. Preface I am not a financial advisor, and I do not provide financial advice. Many thoughts here are my opinion, and others can be speculative. TL;DR - (Though I think you REALLY should consider reading because it is important to understand what is going on): The market crash of 2008 never finished. It was can-kicked and the same people who caused the crash have still been running rampant doing the same bullshit in the derivatives market as that market continues to be unregulated. They're profiting off of short-term gains at the risk of killing their institutions and potentially the global economy. Only this time it is much, much worse. The bankers abused smaller amounts of leverage for the 2008 bubble and have since abused much higher amounts of leverage - creating an even larger speculative bubble. Not just in the stock market and derivatives market, but also in the crypt0 market, upwards of 100x leverage. COVID came in and rocked the economy to the point where the Fed is now pinned between a rock and a hard place. In order to buy more time, the government triggered a flurry of protective measures, such as mortgage forbearance, expiring end of Q2 on June 30th, 2021, and SLR exemptions, which expired March 31, 2021. The market was going to crash regardless. GME was and never will be the reason for the market crashing. The rich made a fatal error in way overshorting stocks. There is a potential for their decades of sucking money out of taxpayers to be taken back. The derivatives market is potentially a $1 Quadrillion market. "Meme prices" are not meme prices. There is so much money in the world, and you are just accustomed to thinking the "meme prices" are too high to feasibly reach. The DTC, ICC, OCC have been passing rules and regulations (auction and wind-down plans) so that they can easily eat up competition and consolidate power once again like in 2008. The people in charge, including Gary Gensler, are not your friends. The DTC, ICC, OCC are also passing rules to make sure that retail will never be able to to do this again. These rules are for the future market (post market crash) and they never want anyone to have a chance to take their game away from them again. These rules are not to start the MOASS. They are indirectly regulating retail so that a short squeeze condition can never occur after GME. The COVID pandemic exposed a lot of banks through the Supplementary Leverage Ratio (SLR) where mass borrowing (leverage) almost made many banks default. Banks have account 'blocks' on the Fed's balance sheet which holds their treasuries and deposits. The SLR exemption made it so that these treasuries and deposits of the banks 'accounts' on the Fed's balance sheet were not calculated into SLR, which allowed them to boost their SLR until March 31, 2021 and avoid defaulting. Now, they must extract treasuries from the Fed in reverse repo to avoid defaulting from SLR requirements. This results in the reverse repo market explosion as they are scrambling to survive due to their mass leverage. This is not a "retail vs. Melvin/Point72/Citadel" issue. This is a "retail vs. Mega Banks" issue. The rich, and I mean all of Wall Street, are trying desperately to shut GameStop down because it has the chance to suck out trillions if not hundreds of trillions from the game they've played for decades. They've rigged this game since the 1990's when derivatives were first introduced. Do you really think they, including the Fed, wouldn't pull all the stops now to try to get you to sell? End TL;DR A ton of the information provided in this post is from the movie Inside Job (2010). I am paraphrasing from the movie as well as taking direct quotes, so please understand that a bunch of this information is a summary of that film. I understand that The Big Short (2015) is much more popular here, due to it being a more Hollywood style movie, but it does not go into such great detail of the conditions that led to the crash - and how things haven't even changed. But in fact, got worse, and led us to where we are now. Seriously. Go. Watch. Inside Job. It is a documentary with interviews of many people, including those who were involved in the Ponzi Scheme of the derivative market bomb that led to the crash of 2008, and their continued lobbying to influence the Government to keep regulations at bay. 1. The Market Crash Of 2008 1.1 The Casino Of The Financial World: The Derivatives Market It all started back in the 1990's when the Derivative Market was created. This was the opening of the literal Casino in the financial world. These are bets placed upon an underlying asset, index, or entity, and are very risky. Derivatives are contracts between two or more parties that derives its value from the performance of the underlying asset, index, or entity. One such derivative many are familiar with are options (CALLs and PUTs). Other examples of derivatives are fowards, futures, swaps, and variations of those such as Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs), and Credit Default Swaps (CDS). The potential to make money off of these trades is insane. Take your regular CALL option for example. You no longer take home a 1:1 return when the underlying stock rises or falls $1. Your returns can be amplified by magnitudes more. Sometimes you might make a 10:1 return on your investment, or 20:1, and so forth. Not only this, you can grab leverage by borrowing cash from some other entity. This allows your bets to potentially return that much more money. You can see how this gets out of hand really fast, because the amount of cash that can be gained absolutely skyrockets versus traditional investments. Attempts were made to regulate the derivatives market, but due to mass lobbying from Wall Street, regulations were continuously shut down. People continued to try to pass regulations, until in 2000, the Commodity Futures Modernization Act banned the regulation of derivatives outright. And of course, once the Derivatives Market was left unchecked, it was off to the races for Wall Street to begin making tons of risky bets and surging their profits. The Derivative Market exploded in size once regulation was banned and de-regulation of the financial world continued. You can see as of 2000, the cumulative derivatives market was already out of control. https://www.hilarispublisher.com/open-access/investment-banks-and-credit-institutions-the-ignored-and-unregulateddiversity-2151-6219-1000224.pdf The Derivatives Market is big. Insanely big. Look at how it compares to Global Wealth. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/all-of-the-worlds-money-and-markets-in-one-visualization-2020/ At the bottom of the list are three derivatives entries, with "Market Value" and "Notional Value" called out. The "Market Value" is the value of the derivative at its current trading price. The "Notional Value" is the value of the derivative if it was at the strike price. E.g. A CALL option (a derivative) represents 100 shares of ABC stock with a strike of $50. Perhaps it is trading in the market at $1 per contract right now. Market Value = 100 shares * $1.00 per contract = $100 Notional Value = 100 shares * $50 strike price = $5,000 Visual Capitalist estimates that the cumulative Notional Value of derivatives is between $558 Trillion and $1 Quadrillion. So yeah. You are not going to cause a market crash if GME sells for millions per share. The rich are already priming the market crash through the Derivatives Market. 1.2 CDOs And Mortgage Backed Securities Decades ago, the system of paying mortgages used to be between two parties. The buyer, and the loaner. Since the movement of money was between the buyer and the loaner, the loaner was very careful to ensure that the buyer would be able to pay off their loan and not miss payments. But now, it's a chain. Home buyers will buy a loan from the lenders. The lenders will then sell those loans to Investment Banks. The Investment Banks then combine thousands of mortgages and other loans, including car loans, student loans, and credit card debt to create complex derivatives called "Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO's)". The Investment Banks then pay Rating Agencies to rate their CDO's. This can be on a scale of "AAA", the best possible rating, equivalent to government-backed securities, all the way down to C/D, which are junk bonds and very risky. Many of these CDO's were given AAA ratings despite being filled with junk. The Investment Banks then take these CDO's and sell them to investors, including retirement funds, because that was the rating required for retirement funds as they would only purchase highly rated securities. Now when the homeowner pays their mortgage, the money flows directly into the investors. The investors are the main ones who will be hurt if the CDO's containing the mortgages begin to fail. Inside Job (2010) - Flow Of Money For Mortgage Paymentshttps://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/09/bond-rating.asp 1.3 The Bubble of Subprime Loans Packed In CDOs This system became a ticking timebomb due to this potential of free short-term gain cash. Lenders didn't care if a borrower could repay, so they would start handing out riskier loans. The investment banks didn't care if there were riskier loans, because the more CDO's sold to investors resulted in more profit. And the Rating Agencies didn't care because there were no regulatory constraints and there was no liability if their ratings of the CDO's proved to be wrong. So they went wild and pumped out more and more loans, and more and more CDOs. Between 2000 and 2003, the number of mortgage loans made each year nearly quadrupled. They didn’t care about the quality of the mortgage - they cared about maximizing the volume and getting profit out of it. In the early 2000s there was a huge increase in the riskiest loans - “Subprime Loans”. These are loans given to people who have low income, limited credit history, poor credit, etc. They are very at risk to not pay their mortgages. It was predatory lending, because it hunted for potential home buyers who would never be able to pay back their mortgages so that they could continue to pack these up into CDO's. Inside Job (2010) - % Of Subprime Loans In fact, the investment banks preferred subprime loans, because they carried higher interest rates and more profit for them. So the Investment Banks took these subprime loans, packaged the subprime loans up into CDO's, and many of them still received AAA ratings. These can be considered "toxic CDO's" because of their high ability to default and fail despite their ratings. Pretty much anyone could get a home now. Purchases of homes and housing prices skyrocketed. It didn't matter because everyone in the chain was making money in an unregulated market. 1.4 Short Term Greed At The Risk Of Institutional And Economic Failure In Wall Street, annual cash bonuses started to spike. Traders and CEOs became extremely wealthy in this bubble as they continued to pump more toxic CDO's into the market. Lehman Bros. was one of the top underwriters of subprime lending and their CEO alone took home over $485 million in bonuses. Inside Job (2010) Wall Street Bonuses And it was all short-term gain, high risk, with no worries about the potential failure of your institution or the economy. When things collapsed, they would not need to pay back their bonuses and gains. They were literally risking the entire world economy for the sake of short-term profits. AND THEY EVEN TOOK IT FURTHER WITH LEVERAGE TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS. During the bubble from 2000 to 2007, the investment banks were borrowing heavily to buy more loans and to create more CDO's. The ratio of banks borrowed money and their own money was their leverage. The more they borrowed, the higher their leverage. They abused leverage to continue churning profits. And are still abusing massive leverage to this day. It might even be much higher leverage today than what it was back in the Housing Market Bubble. In 2004, Henry Paulson, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, helped lobby the SEC to relax limits on leverage, allowing the banks to sharply increase their borrowing. Basically, the SEC allowed investment banks to gamble a lot more. Investment banks would go up to about 33-to-1 leverage at the time of the 2008 crash. Which means if a 3% decrease occurred in their asset base, it would leave them insolvent. Henry Paulson would later become the Secretary Of The Treasury from 2006 to 2009. He was just one of many Wall Street executives to eventually make it into Government positions. Including the infamous Gary Gensler, the current SEC chairman, who helped block derivative market regulations. Inside Job (2010) Leverage Abuse of 2008 The borrowing exploded, the profits exploded, and it was all at the risk of obliterating their institutions and possibly the global economy. Some of these banks knew that they were "too big to fail" and could push for bailouts at the expense of taxpayers. Especially when they began planting their own executives in positions of power. 1.5 Credit Default Swaps (CDS) To add another ticking bomb to the system, AIG, the worlds largest insurance company, got into the game with another type of derivative. They began selling Credit Default Swaps (CDS). For investors who owned CDO's, CDS's worked like an insurance policy. An investor who purchased a CDS paid AIG a quarterly premium. If the CDO went bad, AIG promised to pay the investor for their losses. Think of it like insuring a car. You're paying premiums, but if you get into an accident, the insurance will pay up (some of the time at least). But unlike regular insurance, where you can only insure your car once, speculators could also purchase CDS's from AIG in order to bet against CDO's they didn't own. You could suddenly have a sense of rehypothecation where fifty, one hundred entities might now have insurance against a CDO. Inside Job (2010) Payment Flow of CDS's If you've watched The Big Short (2015), you might remember the Credit Default Swaps, because those are what Michael Burry and others purchased to bet against the Subprime Mortgage CDO's. CDS's were unregulated, so AIG didn’t have to set aside any money to cover potential losses. Instead, AIG paid its employees huge cash bonuses as soon as contracts were signed in order to incentivize the sales of these derivatives. But if the CDO's later went bad, AIG would be on the hook. It paid everyone short-term gains while pushing the bill to the company itself without worrying about footing the bill if shit hit the fan. People once again were being rewarded with short-term profit to take these massive risks. AIG’s Financial Products division in London issued over $500B worth of CDS's during the bubble. Many of these CDS's were for CDO's backed by subprime mortgages. The 400 employees of AIGFP made $3.5B between 2000 and 2007. And the head of AIGFP personally made $315M. 1.6 The Crash And Consumption Of Banks To Consolidate Power By late 2006, Goldman Sachs took it one step further. It didn’t just sell toxic CDO's, it started actively betting against them at the same time it was telling customers that they were high-quality investments. Goldman Sachs would purchase CDS's from AIG and bet against CDO's it didn’t own, and got paid when those CDO's failed. Goldman bought at least $22B in CDS's from AIG, and it was so much that Goldman realized AIG itself might go bankrupt (which later on it would and the Government had to bail them out). So Goldman spent $150M insuring themselves against AIG’s potential collapse. They purchased CDS's against AIG. Inside Job (2010) Payment From AIG To Goldman Sachs If CDO's Failed Then in 2007, Goldman went even further. They started selling CDO's specifically designed so that the more money their customers lost, the more Goldman Sachs made. Many other banks did the same. They created shitty CDO's, sold them, while simultaneously bet that they would fail with CDS's. All of these CDO's were sold to customers as “safe” investments because of the complicit Rating Agencies. The three rating agencies, Moody’s, S&P and Fitch, made billions of dollars giving high ratings to these risky securities. Moody’s, the largest ratings agency, quadrupled its profits between 2000 and 2007. The more AAA's they gave out, the higher their compensation and earnings were for the quarter. AAA ratings mushroomed from a handful in 2000 to thousands by 2006. Hundreds of billions of dollars worth of CDO's were being rated AAA per year. When it all collapsed and the ratings agencies were called before Congress, the rating agencies expressed that it was “their opinion” of the rating in order to weasel their way out of blame. Despite knowing that they were toxic and did not deserve anything above 'junk' rating. Inside Job (2010) Ratings Agencies ProfitsInside Job (2010) - Insane Increase of AAA Rated CDOs By 2008, home foreclosures were skyrocketing. Home buyers in the subprime loans were defaulting on their payments. Lenders could no longer sell their loans to the investment banks. And as the loans went bad, dozens of lenders failed. The market for CDO's collapsed, leaving the investment banks holding hundreds of billions of dollars in loans, CDO's, and real estate they couldn’t sell. Meanwhile, those who purchased up CDS's were knocking at the door to be paid. In March 2008, Bear Stearns ran out of cash and was acquired for $2 a share by JPMorgan Chase. The deal was backed by $30B in emergency guarantees by the Fed Reserve. This was just one instance of a bank getting consumed by a larger entity. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/bear-stearns-sold-to-j-p-morgan-chase AIG, Bear Stearns, Lehman Bros, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, were all AA or above rating days before either collapsing or being bailed out. Meaning they were 'very secure', yet they failed. The Fed Reserve and Big Banks met together in order to discuss bailouts for different banks, and they decided to let Lehman Brothers fail as well. The Government also then took over AIG, and a day after the takeover, asked the Government for $700B in bailouts for big banks. At this point in time, the person in charge of handling the financial crisis, Henry Paulson, former CEO of Goldman Sachs, worked with the chairman of the Federal Reserve to force AIG to pay Goldman Sachs some of its bailout money at 100-cents on the dollar. Meaning there was no negotiation of lower prices. Conflict of interest much? The Fed and Henry Paulson also forced AIG to surrender their right to sue Goldman Sachs and other banks for fraud. This is but a small glimpse of the consolidation of power in big banks from the 2008 crash. They let others fail and scooped up their assets in the crisis. After the crash of 2008, big banks are more powerful and more consolidated than ever before. And the DTC, ICC, OCC rules are planning on making that worse through the auction and wind-down plans where big banks can once again consume other entities that default. 1.7 The Can-Kick To Continue The Game Of Derivative Market Greed After the crisis, the financial industry worked harder than ever to fight reform. The financial sector, as of 2010, employed over 3000 lobbyists. More than five for each member of Congress. Between 1998 and 2008 the financial industry spent over $5B on lobbying and campaign contributions. And ever since the crisis, they’re spending even more money. President Barack Obama campaigned heavily on "Change" and "Reform" of Wall Street, but when in office, nothing substantial was passed. But this goes back for decades - the Government has been in the pocket of the rich for a long time, both parties, both sides, and their influence through lobbying undoubtedly prevented any actual change from occurring. So their game of playing the derivative market was green-lit to still run rampant following the 2008 crash and mass bailouts from the Government at the expense of taxpayers. There's now more consolidation of banks, more consolidation of power, more years of deregulation, and over a decade that they used to continue the game. And just like in 2008, it's happening again. We're on the brink of another market crash and potentially a global financial crisis. 2. The New CDO Game, And How COVID Uppercut To The System 2.1 Abuse Of Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities It's not just 's "House Of Cards" where the US Treasury Market has been abused. It is abuse of many forms of collateral and securities this time around. It's the same thing as 2008, but much worse due to even higher amounts of leverage in the system on top of massive amounts of liquidity and potential inflation from stimulus money of the COVID crisis. Here's an excerpt from The Bigger Short: Wall Street's Cooked Books Fueled The Financial Crisis of 2008. It's Happening Again: They've been abusing Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) this time around, and potentially have still been abusing other forms of collateral - they might still be hitting MBS as well as treasury bonds per 's DD. John M. Griffin and Alex Priest released a study last November. They sampled almost 40,000 CMBS loans with a market capitalization of $650 billion underwritten from the beginning of 2013 to the end of 2019. Their findings were that large banks had 35% or more loans exhibiting 5% or greater income overstatements. The below chart shows the overstatements of the biggest problem-making banks. The difference in bars is between samples taken from data between 2013-2015, and then data between 2016-2019. Almost every single bank experienced a positive move up over time of overstatements. https://theintercept.com/2021/04/20/wall-street-cmbs-dollar-general-ladder-capital/ So what does this mean? It means they've once again been handing out subprime loans (predatory loans). But this time to businesses through Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities. Just like Mortgage-Backed Securities from 2000 to 2007, the loaners will go around, hand out loans to businesses, and rake in the profits while having no concern over the potential for the subprime loans failing. 2.2 COVID's Uppercut Sent Them Scrambling The system was propped up to fail just like from the 2000-2007 Housing Market Bubble. Now we are in a speculative bubble of the entire market along with the Commercial Market Bubble due to continued mass leverage abuse of the world. Hell - also in Crypt0currencies that were introduced after the 2008 crash. Did you know that you can get over 100x leverage in crypt0 right now? Imagine how terrifying that crash could be if the other markets fail. There is SO. MUCH. LEVERAGE. ABUSE. IN. THE. WORLD. All it takes is one fatal blow to bring it all down - and it sure as hell looks like COVID was that uppercut to send everything into a death spiral. When COVID hit, many people were left without jobs. Others had less pay from the jobs they kept. It rocked the financial world and it was so unexpected. Apartment residents would now become delinquent, causing the apartment complexes to become delinquent. Business owners would be hurting for cash to pay their mortgages as well due to lack of business. The subprime loans all started to become a really big issue. Delinquency rates of Commercial Mortgages started to skyrocket when the COVID crisis hit. They even surpassed 2008 levels in March of 2020. Remember what happened in 2008 when this occurred? When delinquency rates went up on mortgages in 2008, the CDO's of those mortgages began to fail. But, this time, they can-kicked it because COVID caught them all off guard. https://theintercept.com/2021/04/20/wall-street-cmbs-dollar-general-ladder-capital/ 2.3 Can-Kick Of COVID To Prevent CDO's From Defaulting Before Being Ready COVID sent them Scrambling. They could not allow these CDO's to fail just yet, because they wanted to get their rules in place to help them consume other failing entities at a whim. Like in 2008, they wanted to not only protect themselves when the nuke went off from these decades of derivatives abuse, they wanted to be able to scoop up the competition easily. That is when the DTC, ICC, and OCC began drafting their auction and wind-down plans. In order to buy time, they began tossing out emergency relief "protections" for the economy. Such as preventing mortgage defaults which would send their CDO's tumbling. This protection ends on June 30th, 2021. And guess what? Many people are still at risk of being delinquent. This article was posted just yesterday. The moment these protection plans lift, we can see a surge in foreclosures as delinquent payments have accumulated over the past year. When everyone, including small business owners who were attacked with predatory loans, begin to default from these emergency plans expiring, it can lead to the CDO's themselves collapsing. Which is exactly what triggered the 2008 recession. https://www.housingwire.com/articles/mortgage-forbearance-drops-as-expiration-date-nears/ 2.4 SLR Requirement Exemption - Why The Reverse Repo Is Blowing Up Another big issue exposed from COVID is when SLR requirements were leaned during the pandemic. They had to pass a quick measure to protect the banks from defaulting in April of 2020. What can you take from the above? SLR is based on the banks deposits with the Fed itself. It is the treasuries and deposits that the banks have on the Fed's balance sheet. Banks have an 'account block' on the Fed's balance sheet that holds treasuries and deposits. The SLR pandemic rule allowed them to neglect these treasuries and deposits from their SLR calculation, and it boosted their SLR value, allowing them to survive defaults. This is a big, big, BIG sign that the banks are way overleveraged by borrowing tons of money just like in 2008. The SLR is the "Supplementary Leverage Ratio" and they enacted quick to allow it so banks wouldn't fail under mass leverage for failing to maintain enough equity. Here is an exposure of their SLR from earlier this year. The key is to have high SLR, above 5%, as a top-tier bank: Bank Supplementary Leverage Ratio (SLR) JP Morgan Chase 6.8% Bank Of America 7% Citigroup 6.7% Goldman Sachs 6.7% Morgan Stanley 7.3% Bank of New York Mellon 8.2% State Street 8.3% The SLR protection ended on March 31, 2021. Guess what started to happen just after? The reverse repo market started to explode. This is VERY unusual behavior because it is not at a quarter-end where quarter-ends have significant strain on the economy. The build-up over time implies that there is significant strain on the market AS OF ENTERING Q2 (April 1st - June 30th). https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/RRPONTSYD Speculation: SLR IS DEPENDENT ON THEIR DEPOSITS WITH THE FED ITSELF. THEY NEED TO EXTRACT TREASURIES OVER NIGHT TO KEEP THEM OFF THE FED'S BALANCE SHEETS TO PREVENT THEMSELVES FROM FAILING SLR REQUIREMENTS AND DEFAULTING DUE TO MASS OVERLEVERAGE. EACH BANK HAS AN ACCOUNT ON THE FED'S BALANCE SHEET, WHICH IS WHAT SLR IS CALCULATED AGAINST. THIS IS WHY IT IS EXPLODING. THEY ARE ALL STRUGGLING TO MEET SLR REQUIREMENTS. 2.5 DTC, ICC, OCC Wind-Down and Auction Plans; Preparing For More Consolidation Of Power We've seen some interesting rules from the DTC, ICC, and OCC. For the longest time we thought this was all surrounding GameStop. Guess what. They aren't all about GameStop. Some of them are, but not all of them. They are furiously passing these rules because the COVID can-kick can't last forever. The Fed is dealing with the potential of runaway inflation from COVID stimulus and they can't allow the overleveraged banks to can-kick any more. They need to resolve this as soon as possible. June 30th could be the deadline because of the potential for CDO's to begin collapsing. Let's revisit a few of these rules. The most important ones, in my opinion, because they shed light on the bullshit they're trying to do once again: Scoop up competitors at the cheap, and protect themselves from defaulting as well. DTC-004: Wind-down and auction plan. - Link ICC-005: Wind-down and auction plan. - Link OCC-004: Auction plan. Allows third parties to join in. - Link OCC-003: Shielding plan. Protects the OCC. - Link Each of these plans, in brief summary, allows each branch of the market to protect themselves in the event of major defaults of members. They also allow members to scoop up assets of defaulting members. What was that? Scooping up assets? In other words it is more concentration of power. Less competition. I would not be surprised if many small and large Banks, Hedge Funds, and Financial Institutions evaporate and get consumed after this crash and we're left with just a select few massive entities. That is, after all, exactly what they're planning for. They could not allow the COVID crash to pop their massive speculative derivative bubble so soon. It came too sudden for them to not all collapse instead of just a few of them. It would have obliterated the entire economy even more so than it will once this bomb is finally let off. They needed more time to prepare so that they could feast when it all comes crashing down. 2.6 Signs Of Collapse Coming - ICC-014 - Incentives For Credit Default Swaps A comment on this subreddit made me revisit a rule passed by the ICC. It flew under the radar and is another sign for a crash coming. This is ICC-014. Passed and effective as of June 1st, 2021. Seems boring at first. Right? That's why it flew under the radar? But now that you know the causes of the 2008 market crash and how toxic CDO's were packaged together, and then CDS's were used to bet against those CDO's, check out what ICC-014 is doing as of June 1st. ICC-014 Proposed Discounts On Credit Default Index Swaptions They are providing incentive programs to purchase Credit Default Swap Indexes. These are like standard CDS's, but packaged together like an index. Think of it like an index fund. This is allowing them to bet against a wide range of CDO's or other entities at a cheaper rate. Buyers can now bet against a wide range of failures in the market. They are allowing upwards of 25% discounts. There's many more indicators that are pointing to a market collapse. But I will leave that to you to investigate more. Here is quite a scary compilation of charts relating the current market trends to the crashes of Black Monday, The Internet Bubble, The 2008 Housing Market Crash, and Today. Summary of Recent Warnings Re Intermediate Trend In Equities 3. The Failure Of The 1% - How GameStop Can Deal A Fatal Blow To Wealth Inequality 3.1 GameStop Was Never Going To Cause The Market Crash GameStop was meant to die off. The rich bet against it many folds over, and it was on the brink of Bankruptcy before many conditions led it to where it is today. It was never going to cause the market crash. And it never will cause the crash. The short squeeze is a result of high abuse of the derivatives market over the past decade, where Wall Street's abuse of this market has primed the economy for another market crash on their own. We can see this because when COVID hit, GameStop was a non-issue in the market. The CDO market around CMBS was about to collapse on its own because of the instantaneous recession which left mortgage owners delinquent. If anyone, be it the media, the US Government, or others, try to blame this crash on GameStop or anything other than the Banks and Wall Street, they are WRONG. 3.2 The Rich Are Trying To Kill GameStop. They Are Terrified In January, the SI% was reported to be 140%. But it is very likely that it was underreported at that time. Maybe it was 200% back then. 400%. 800%. Who knows. From the above you can hopefully gather that Wall Street takes on massive risks all the time, they do not care as long as it churns them short-term profits. There is loads of evidence pointing to shorts never covering by hiding their SI% through malicious options practices, and manipulating the price every step of the way. The conditions that led GameStop to where it is today is a miracle in itself, and the support of retail traders has led to expose a fatal mistake of the rich. Because a short position has infinite loss potential. There is SO much money in the world, especially in the derivatives market. This should scream to you that any price target that you think is low, could very well be extremely low in YOUR perspective. You might just be accustomed to thinking "$X price floor is too much money. There's no way it can hit that". I used to think that too, until I dove deep into this bullshit. The market crashing no longer was a matter of simply scooping up defaulters, their assets, and consolidating power. The rich now have to worry about the potential of infinite losses from GameStop and possibly other meme stocks with high price floor targets some retail have. It's not a fight against Melvin / Citadel / Point72. It's a battle against the entire financial world. There is even speculation from multiple people that the Fed is even being complicit right now in helping suppress GameStop. Their whole game is at risk here. Don't you think they'd fight tooth-and-nail to suppress this and try to get everyone to sell? That they'd pull every trick in the book to make you think that they've covered? The amount of money they could lose is unfathomable. With the collapsing SI%, it is mathematically impossible for the squeeze to have happened - its mathematically impossible for them to have covered. also discusses this in House of Cards Part 2. https://www.thebharatexpressnews.com/short-squeeze-could-save-gamestop-investors-a-third-time/ And in regards to all the other rules that look good for the MOASS - I see them in a negative light. They are passing NSCC-002/801, DTC-005, and others, in order to prevent a GameStop situation from ever occurring again. They realized how much power retail could have from piling into a short squeeze play. These new rules will snap new emerging short squeezes instantly if the conditions of a short squeeze ever occur again. There will never be a GameStop situation after this. It's their game after all. They've been abusing the derivative market game for decades and GameStop is a huge threat. It was supposed to be, "crash the economy and run with the money". Not "crash the economy and pay up to retail". But GameStop was a flaw exposed by their greed, the COVID crash, and the quick turn-around of the company to take it away from the brink of bankruptcy. The rich are now at risk of losing that money and insane amounts of cash that they've accumulated over the years from causing the Internet Bubble Crash of 2000, and the Housing Market Crash of 2008. So, yeah, I'm going to be fucking greedy. submitted by /u/JohannFaustCrypto to r/Superstonk [link] [comments]

AITA for offering my kids nanny more money/hours so she won't work for my SIL?
My husband and I have 3 kids (10mo f, 4m, 10f). We currently have a nanny, Isabelle (22f) 3 days a week. I have to say, Isabelle is fucking amazing. She drives on field trips, she does homework with the kids, she handles play dates, she's the one adult my 10 year old likes, she's not dependent on screens, does art projects with the kids, she speaks 10 year old, and she's even teaching them how to cook and bake. They made mini quiches a few weeks ago. My oldest is doing state testing right now and wanted a fun activity with her friends. Isabelle suggested a spa day and my daughter loved it. I set up a day for my 4 year old to go home with his grandparents and let Isabelle turn our living room into a spa. She picked up my daughter, my niece, and 2 friends, brought them to our house, and did their hair and nails while they laid back and did face masks. I guess my niece was telling her mom how cool Isabelle is because my SIL texted Isabelle offering her a nanny position 4 days a week, matching whatever I pay her but for only 1 kid. Isabelle showed me the text and told me that she will have to think about it because the extra money would be nice. I told her if she promised to stay, next year I'd have her at 5 days a week with a $5 per hour raise. Isabelle turned my SIL down saying she had received a better offer and now she's telling my husband's family that I stole a nanny from her. They're upset that I outbid my SIL and gave Isabelle extra money and hours just so my SIL wouldn't get her. My husband said it was petty. AITA for offering Isabelle a raise and more hours so she doesn't work for my SIL? submitted by /u/aitanannyraise to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I (25M) have the chance to date my old HS crush (25F), but I’m engaged to my fiancee (24F). What do I do? + UPDATE
Trigger warning: stupidity ORIGINAL: I (25M) have the chance to date my old HS crush (25F), but I’m engaged to my fiancee (24F). What do I do? by u/throwRa_crusher from r/Advice March 10, 2024. I had a crush on this girl Carla since middle school going into HS but she never paid me no mind. I left for the military and met Sara, who is nurse and wants to become a doctor nurse practitioner! Sara was the usual type of girl I dated. I left the military to do contracting work, and moved back to my home state. One day while I was getting drinks at the bar, Carla was my bartender! She didn't recognize me but when I told her my name she couldn't believe it. She said she couldn't believe how much I changed. I started becoming a regular, and eventually exchanged contact information with her to catch up. Throughout this time, she told me she has a crush on me even though she knows I have a fiancee. She said she likes how driven I am… now I'm conflicted. She says that she will give me time to think about what I wanna do. My fiancee and I are doing great, but I feel like she's normally the type of woman I always get. Carla, I never had the opportunity or thought I would. I don't wanna hurt Sara, but feel like I would regret this forever if I don't pursue it. Commenters are telling OOP to dump Sara because she deserves better than a cheater like himself, and that he's going to regret his flighty decision in the long run. UPDATE: I want to get my fiancee back. April 2, 2024. I broke her heart. I love Sara so much, and I stupidly called off the wedding to be with my old crush a few weeks ago. Throughout the couple weeks, Carla used me as a piggy bank. That’s all I fucking was to her. I spoiled her, paid for her hair, nails, etc. I gave her everything. I found out she used the money I Zelled her to buy a ticket for some guy to come see her. I’m sick to my stomach. I reached out to Sara, but she feels betrayed and said she doesn’t want to be a sloppy seconds, but she’s not. I love her and needed this to realize it. OOP insists he loves Sara and he just needed these past few weeks to remind him of that. Commenters don't buy it and laugh at him. submitted by /u/red_earaches to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

AITA for refusing to pay my daughter as much as my son and refusing to supplement her check so that their equal?
My two oldest kids are in college and working part time to earn spending money. They live at home and we pay for their tuition, cars, insurance, basically everything except their spending money. I have my own small construction company and run a crew of about 15 men including my son. Lately we’ve been doing mostly roofing jobs. My son’s job is to help take off the old shingles, pick up any shingles that miss the dumpster, and help prep the roof. Once the installation starts, he delivers a steady stream of shingles, nails, and other materials to the nailers. It’s a dangerous and hard job so I pay him about $25/hr. My daughter works as a cashier but most of the time she’s standing at the self checkout lanes and rarely behind the register. She’s paid about $15/hr. Last weekend my son bought his girlfriend a new iPhone for valentines and was talking about the restaurant he’s going to take her. Since it’s an expensive phone and restaurant, my daughter asked where he’s getting the money. That led to how much I’m paying him and she got mad. He’s been working with me for about 4 months but she’s never shown any interest in what we do or ask anything about his job or pay so it came as a surprise to her. The short version of a week long argument in our house is that she thinks It’s unfair he’s making so much more than she is. I offered her the same hourly wage if she wants to join her brother on the roof but she went once and didn’t finish out the day. Instead she wants us to make up the difference between their paychecks. My wife thinks I should come up with an easier job like just let her pick up the shingles that miss the dumpsters. I said that’s an easy job and I’m not paying her $25/hr for a minimum wage job. I told her that she can make as much as her brother but she doesn’t want to carry heavy and dirty singles. Now both women are giving me the silent treatment. Last night when my wife went so far as to eat dinner with our daughter before my son and I got home at 6 and later went to bed without saying a word to me all night. update Hi and thank you for reading my post and giving me your opinions. I’ll answer some common questions. My wife doesn’t work, she stays at home and take care of our younger kids. I didn’t make it clear but our daughter works for a grocery store, not for me. I have a very small company. With 15 men, I have 2 crews on large jobs or 3 on smaller jobs. There’s no bookkeeping or other positions she can do because I do those on the weekends. There’s only the construction positions. None of our kids have any interest in taking over my company and it’ll close when I retire. Our son just got accepted into dental school and our daughter is almost done with her education degree. Our younger kids have their own dreams. submitted by /u/ConsistentDetail834 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Disneyland just isn't worth it anymore.
Maybe I am just old and jaded, but what the hell happened to this place? Literally everything is a queue.... going to the bathroom, queue, want to eat? queue, want to buy a souvenir? queue want to get a glimpse of something? queue...now I'm not talking about having to stand in line for 5 minutes, I'm talking 20 minute - 1 hour lines for things that are not even rides... The rides themselves are just atrocious. Minimum wait times of 2 hours to go on a ride that lasts 3 minutes? If you look at the way these new rides are being built, 99% of the ride is just space for the queue. Now on top of paying nearly $300 for one day at the park (hopper pass), you have to also purchase $20+ passes to get on rides, otherwise you're going to waste your entire day sitting in a 3 hour line. We purchased a genie+ pass was just enough to get us on a few rides, the one attempt we made to get on a ride without the genie pass, we waited in line for 2 hours only to have the ride break down (of course Disneyland doesn't do rain checks unless you have a fast pass...) The nail in the coffin is that Disneyland doesn't really offer things that other amusement parks don't offer anymore. Their ride technology and themed areas are on par with places like Universal Studios (which is less than half the cost). Any edge they have on quality is completely diminished by the sheer amount of people and lines you have to compete with constantly. Its hard to notice all the details and work that was put into the park when you are just constantly in a sea of people. I just don't see the money or effort being worth it anymore. Its pretty apparent that Disney's popularity just continues to soar and ticket prices continue to rise. So the park will only continue to become more expensive and more crowded. submitted by /u/Asleep_Percentage_12 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

I am only 23 years old and I’m about to start making more money than I ever thought was realistic. Problem is I have no idea how to manage it. Any advice?
Hello! I have been financially insecure throughout my life. My parents never made much and I honestly didn’t think I really would. I fell into construction management during the pandemic and have loved it despite being at a company that barely pays me and works me like a mule. Another company stepped in and took notice of me. I accepted an offer from them for $75,000 a year. This will be more than double my current salary of $36,400 starting in September. I did the math on take home pay. These are weekly charges and I believe all of these items come out pre-tax (only unsure of whether the insurance comes out pre-tax) Med+Dental+Vision = $54.42 HSA = $60 (the company puts $500 in the HSA initially and you can contribute up to $3,150 on top of that. $60 per week would max it out for the year) 401k = $50 (the company does 100% match for first 3% of salary and 50% match for the next 2%. I know I’m not taking full advantage of the 50% match but would rather keep the contributions lower until I pay off the credit cards I’ve racked up being broke first) I’m in Florida so no state tax Social Security/Medicare = $101 Fed Tax = $181 So my take home should be about $990 a week. I currently scrape by on a weekly take home of about $600 and I pay $1,200 a month for rent. I’ve been living in a super unsafe apartment and the lease is up in November. Apartments are expensive in Orlando but I want to live somewhere I finally feel comfortable. I just don’t know how much I can realistically afford without going overboard. In my head, these numbers don’t feel real because they’re just more than I thought realistic. Apartments approve you based on your pre-tax income and now my boyfriend and I are at about $100,000 a year gross, meaning we can easily get approved for up to $2500/month (I’m trying to stay around $1800-$2100 but most of the apartments I’ve toured and like are more like $2200-$2350 sadly). We agreed that I would pay the rent and he’ll pay utilities/groceries so I have to make sure I can afford the rent on my own. Does anyone have any advice for a clueless 23 year old that has done nothing but scrape by? I just have no idea how to make these decisions. EDIT: I have received a lot of helpful advice. I have realized that I am being unrealistic, which is exactly what I was worried about. I am going to make a step up for sure because I want to feel safe and comfortable in my home but I will swallow the longer commute to pocket a lot more money in my savings. I'll increase my 401K to take advantage of the 50:1 match. My old target was $2,000 plus or minus $200. Many of you have helped me realize I can still make a compromising step up without over stretching myself with my new target at $1650 plus or minus $200. I will not be going over $1900 a month. I'll be sitting down with my boyfriend to figure out a more equal split. We have a separate joint account that makes it easy to nail down our shared expenses and we'll just do it based on a percentage. If anyone has any more advice, I still appreciate it. submitted by /u/BeansMom99 to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]

TIL Nails at one time were so expensive that people would burn down old barns just to recover their nails.
