Pregnant sister stole my future daughter’s baby name
Bacon burger and fries. Yeah so my sister is seven months pregnant and just told me she’s using the name that i’ve literally been saving since I was like 11 years old for MY daughter for HER daughter. Words cannot describe how annoyed I am. She has literally ALWAYS done this. Even when we were kids, I’d say my favorite color was pink and she’d say “No it’s actually MY favorite color too!” I got a specific doll that I asked for? She’d cry to our parents that SHE actually wanted that doll too. Now we’re adults and you’d think it would stop right? NOPE. I casually mention I’m going to dye my hair red, oh here she is posting on insta with her newly dyed red hair fresh from the salon. I’m wearing a specific dress to a family event and I show her? HERE SHE COMES WITH THE EXACT DAMN OUTFIT. And now this…she knows I’ve been wanting to name my future daughter this name. Something I personally came up with on my own and means something TO ME and had for many years!!! And she just casually mentions over the phone that she picked the name and it’s THE ONE NAME THAT I WAS SAVING??? Maybe i’m overreacting. Maybe it’s not a big deal. But my god it hurts so bad. I couldn’t just have one thing??? One thing??? She had to go and take that too? She’s so damn selfish and I feel like an idiot for crying. I should’ve just hung up on her but nooo. I’m too nice and non confrontational so I just said “Oh that’s lovely! Can’t wait to meet her!” Like a damn idiot. submitted by /u/One-Theme3933 to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

I spent a week with my influencer cousin, and it was the perspective I needed
My cousin is a micro influencer I think? 100K followers. She quit her 9-5 to do this full time and “romanticize motherhood” and I’ll admit I was jealous-I miss my kids, being a working mom is a lot. But this week brought me the perspective I needed-the grass is not greener. She was on her phone the whole vacation. Every restaurant, she filmed. Needed food pics and tried to convince us to order certain stuff that would look pretty in beach pics like daquiris. Changed her outfit 3-4 times a day and had to do an ootd story and post links. Her 2 young daughters, same, and she wouldn’t let them play with her cousins until she got the shot she wanted. They were late to every meal because of the outfit photo shoots. Photos and videos you see that look pure like jumping on the Airbnb bed in matching pajamas-7 takes, she would watch and criticize in between. She came up with the idea of a backyard camp out for the kids but wouldn’t let the kids pick anything because she wanted it all aesthetic and beige, then had to film herself getting it all set up then they couldn’t touch anything until the local photographer she contacted came to do some more photos, then it was dark and late. The kids seemed so irritated by the whole thing and just wanted to play with cousins. They weren’t allowed to eat messy foods because she didn’t want them messing up their outfits for more photos. Anyway, it was a hustle all the time, and the office is looking pretty good to me now. Motherhood not romanticized, just using kids for content and not being able to actually enjoy anything because everything is content. submitted by /u/Sad_Cheesecake_3450 to r/InfluencerLounge [link] [comments]

[IRL trope] Celebrities with weird/funny clauses in their contracts.
Dwayne Johnson - Probably the most well-known example. For years now, The Rock has had a clause in his contract that he can't be shown to lose a fight in any movie he stars in. Pretty insecure behaviour if you ask me. Still, at least the other examples are much more interesting Danny Trejo - Danny had a troubled childhood, having been arrested multiple times for dealing drugs before he was 18, and struggling with heroin addiction from the age of 13. As a result of this, Danny has a clause in his contract that states that any time he plays a character who is a criminal, they have to be killed because he wanted to teach his kids that crime never pays. Reese Witherspoon - This one is more of a one-off, but it was still funny enough to deserve a mention. Following the success of Legally Blonde, when Reese was called in to make the sequel, she had a clause written in her contract stating that once the movie was finished, she would get to take home all the outfits she wore. Fred Durst - The lead singer of Limp Bizkit has a clause in his contract stating that any anime or video game that uses his music must also feature himself as a character. submitted by /u/BeenEatinBeans to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Things my bf does that would sent a manchild into a coma.
Chocolate donuts and things my bf does. He buys me flowers. He never says no to things that would make me happy. He cooks really well. He respects when I go through phases of low libido due to burnout or job related stress. He buys me things I like in my favorite colors (they don’t need to be expensive, even €2 is enough). If I feel like I can’t work, he works alone. He cleans the house without me having to say anything. He prepares meals and snacks for my work. He makes me breakfast almost every day when he is not working. He signed up for the gym because I told him I wanted us to go together. There is no 50/50 in our relationship, financially or otherwise. It varies depending on each person’s capacity at the time (40/60, 80/20, 10/90, etc.). He doesn’t watch porn and he has female friends (mostly queer). He is a feminist to his core and speaks up when he sees injustice happening. He sends me messages during the day to show that he is thinking about me. He shows interest when I want to talk about things that concern me (whether hobbies or emotional/psychological topics). He doesn’t judge me for watching kids’ shows (winx, totally spies, barbie in the dreamhouse) while I’m drawing. He accepts ALL of me and he is patient during our conversations even if we disagree. He never judges what I wear. He has never made negative comments, even about my most "provocative" outfits. Ι could keep going until the list reaches 100 or more. But the point is that you shouldn’t tolerate anything less than this from a man. I see a lot of posts here, and it makes me sad that there are women who settle for crumbs. You are beautiful, intelligent, and capable of standing on your own, without some idiot bothering you over the bare minimum. If a man doesn’t ADD to your life, then he’s either taking away from it or he’s a burden. submitted by /u/Anarchista_Chiquita to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

TIFU by asking my friend's mum out
My friend's mum has been single for the last few years. She is currently in her mid 40s. I am in my early 20s and I have always found her to be really attractive. She carries herself with confidence and has a pretty wicked sense of humour. For most people who do not know her, she can seem pretty cold, detached and aloof, but once you get to know her, she is one of the nicest and most caring person out there. I have been strongly infatuated with her for the last 2 years. Recently, I ran into her in a shopping mall, and we had a great conversation. She got both of us coffee and we had a good time yapping away at the cafe. Ever since, she appeared in my dream twice. I have never felt like this towards any other woman before, not in the last 22 years of my life. Yesterday, I decided to make a move. I slid into her Instagram DM and told her that her dinner outfit was amazing and looked really good on her. Then, I asked her for dinner, just to catchup further. She replied initially, saying sure and she would bring her son along too. I did not know how to reply to that. I wanted to make it clear that this was a date and it would be the 2 of us. I gave it a few hours. Then, I got a bottle of red wine and chugged 2 glasses down to calm my nerves and boost my confidence. Then, I texted her, telling her I would love to go on a date with her. Right after I sent that, it was radio silence from her till 1 hour ago. She dropped me a text gently declining my offer and telling me I am a great kid, and all the best with girls my age. I am absolutely crushed. I don't know how my friend will see me from now onwards. I have no idea if she told my friend. TL;DR I asked my friend's mum out for a date, and was rejected submitted by /u/Infinite-Access428 to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Me [27m] with my fiancee [26f]: She is cutting me completely out of planning our wedding and ignoring my complaints. What do I do?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/fianceeweddingadvice Me [27m] with my fiancee [26f]: She is cutting me completely out of planning our wedding and ignoring my complaints. What do I do? Thanks to u/GoldOne7154 for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: Controlling behavior, minimizing Original Post Jan 17, 2016 Hi guys! Longtime lurker here. I have a question I'd like to ask. A little background: I met my fiancee "Emily" in college about 5 years ago, and we started dating several months later. As corny as it sounds, things just clicked. Things got pretty serious, and I ended up proposing to her at Christmas and she said yes! Yay! But since then a couple of issues have popped up, and I'd like to get some advice on them. The problem is that I, being somewhat sappy and effeminate, have dreamed about getting married before, and I've wanted for a long time to have a "perfect" wedding. So I started discussing wedding plans with Emily soon after we got engaged, talking about what we wanted our wedding to be like. Of course, I knew then as well as now that there would have to be some compromise, some give and take and all that, with a little of what I want and a little of what she wants. At first, it seemed like she was open to that, but now I'm not sure. You see, Emily has gotten really pushy about the wedding plans. Since that first conversation she had, she's been ignoring most of my suggestions except for really small ones like what outfit I can wear or what songs we can play at the reception. Meanwhile, she's really excited about her wedding and is constantly coming up with ideas of her own. What's more, she has been enlisting a bunch of her girlfriends, female relatives, etc. to help her plan the wedding out, with relatively little input from me. I feel really left out from the whole planning process, and I've mentioned that to her before, to which she would always say something like "oh, it's just brainstorming." Still, that kind of bothers me. It all came to a head yesterday. When I got home from work (we live together) Emily came up to me, barely able to contain her excitement, and announced that she and her friends had finally found the perfect venue for our wedding. She showed me some pictures on her phone and it really wasn't to my tastes, and I mentioned that. She brushed that off too, saying that I "just didn't understand weddings" or something like that because I'm a man. That really hurt me because it's like she just didn't care about my opinion, and I told her. She told me it was just a joke and I shouldn't take it so seriously (probably true because she was laughing when she said it but whatever). That was when I decided to tell her just how left out I felt. I told her I wanted to plan the wedding too, and I thought I had made that clear. She basically said that, ok, I could help, but this was still her big day, so she got to make all the major decisions. That really pissed me off for some reason. I told her that it was my big day too... she just said that the wedding is "all about the bride" and that this was her one day to be a "princess". Wtf? I told her that she was making me feel like I didn't matter at all, and she laughed and said that of course I mattered, why else would she agree to marry me? And besides, I got to help her plan out "her big day" so I should be happy! She said this like it wasn't a big deal. Like I said before, I'm kinda unmanly. I was actually starting to cry at this point, and her nonchalant attitude was just making things worse. I excused myself from the room and just got into bed and cried. I was in a funk all night and even this morning and it's only now that I can clear my head and type this out. So help me out, guys: Is Emily being unreasonable or not? Is she right that I should stay out of this? How can I get her to let me have some control here? Should we postpone getting married? Thanks guys TL;DR: My fiancee is completely cutting me out of planning our wedding and ignoring both my suggestions and my concerns. What do I do? Update Jan 19, 2016 (2 days later) Hi guys, it's me again... this is actually my second update, I wrote a post last night, but that one got removed by the mods, I think because I was asking in the post for further advice. Anyway, as I was writing it out, I came to the realization that I didn't need advice after all, that I had a strong gut feeling that something was wrong and I needed to get closure with Emily. So, I brought it up with her shortly after writing my post last night. Things went horrible and now I feel like shit. I'll start by summing up that post that got deleted: I ended up having a talk with Emily on Sunday evening, basically running through the points I laid out in my original post and that some people who commented on it had suggested (btw thanks guys!). She apologized and agreed to premarital counseling but wasn't too happy about it, and she also agreed to have me co-plan the wedding with her. But when I mentioned postponing the wedding, she got really upset and said that she wanted to get married now. Fortunately, we never had a final date for our wedding ceremony to begin with so I was able to calm her down by reassuring her that we would be getting married "soon". We spent hours yesterday trying to reach a very general master plan for the wedding based on both our ideas. But I just could not shake this feeling that she was just agreeing to what I said so that I would be placated and she could go on with the wedding... and then control every aspect of our lives for the entirety of our marriage. I also doubted the sincerity of her apology and was very worried by the fact that she had insisted on getting married right now, and not in an "I can't get enough of you" way... it was definitely more like a little kid throwing a tantrum over a toy they want. Basically, my post that got removed was asking if my concerns were legitimate and what I should do about them. So, like I said before, I realized by the time I had finished writing that post last night that I had already answered my own questions. I did not feel like she was being sincere, and I definitely did feel like she was just trying to appease me so that she could get what she wanted, as opposed to her genuinely wanting my input on the whole process. So around midnight last night, I approached her with these feelings. I basically told her all of what I just said above, and demanded to know if she really wanted to marry me, or just to get married. She fucking lost it. She accused me of not loving her, saying I was just trying to guilt her into giving me everything I wanted all the time, at one point she even accused me of cheating on her. She fell back into old stereotypes, she was saying that men are just selfish pigs who only "put up with" women for sex and never commit to giving them what they want and deserve... I was too stunned to say anything. I might have been crying, I don't even know. It was just too much to handle. She eventually threatened to break up with me if I didn't apologize for doubting her and at that point, I just let her break up with me. The Emily I'd fallen in love with had just fucking evaporated right before my eyes... She kicked me out of the apartment after that. I had to find a hotel room, and I ended up calling in sick at work and just laying in the hotel bed all day, just sobbing... fuck, this is miserable. I checked facebook and twitter and all that a while back and Emily and her friends have been posting a ton of shit about how I "betrayed" and "abandoned" her and all that... some of them have even sent messages to me directly telling me what an asshole I am. At the very least, Emily's parents (who I'm actually pretty close with) commented on those posts defending me and they even called me earlier this afternoon to apologize for their daughter's actions. That's the only thing that's really gotten me out of this funk. The woman I was going to marry left me, and it's all my fault... sorry guys, I fucked up on this one big time. TL;DR: I talked to Emily and we resolved some of our issues, but I wasn't entirely satisfied so I went back and told her that I didn't like where this was going. She got really mad and broke up with me and now I feel like shit. AITA I don’t want bridesmaid to wear dress to other events
I’m getting married this summer and I’ve been trying hard to be a “chill bride.” My family and myself are doing most of the planning. My cousin is letting us stay at her house in Antioch, TN, just outside in Nashville so we’re saving money before the bachelorette party and another cousin has a van and we’re all driving down together so we just have to split the cost of gas. None of us are exactly swimming in cash and I wanted to keep costs down as much as possible. I also told my bridesmaids, if there’s anything about my wedding stressing you out, let me know. I’m the only one that should be stressing and before this little scenario, I was feeling pretty good. Anyway, I found these perfect cocktail dresses at Anthropologie, inclusive sizing, great color and the holy Grail they were on sale. I made a deal with the bridesmaids. I buy the dresses if they covered any necessary alterations, everyone was happy. I gave everyone their dresses. Everyone looks fabulous and we’re all happy, who said planning a wedding was hard? Enter Roxy: back in December I saw a photo of Roxy at her work Christmas party wearing the bridesmaids dress. I’ll admit it bugged me. I wanted the big reveal at the wedding to feel special not like a rerun of an HR office mixer, but I bit my tongue because none of our mutual friends were there so I’m not going to stress myself out about something I felt like was kind of petty. The problem is we have a mutual friend getting married in June, one month before my wedding. A lot of my wedding guests will be at this wedding, and when I asked Roxy what she was wearing she casually said “Oh I’m just wearing the bridesmaids dress from your wedding. I look hot in it and it’s my favorite.” I paused . I told her I didn’t want her wear the bridesmaid uniform as a guest to a wedding filled with our mutual friends right before my big day Well, now Roxy thinks I’m being a bridezilla. She pointed out that I did say I wanted them to have a dress that they could wear again ( I meant after the wedding obviously) she then dropped the bombshell that she’s already worn it to several events. I might’ve snapped. I told her that since I bought the dress, I didn’t want her to wear it again until after my wedding she hit back in that since she paid for the alterations, she’s invested just as much money into the dress as I did which thanks to the sale might actually be true. My other bridesmaids are on my side, but Roxy thinks I’m overreacting because it’s just a dress. Am I the asshole for wanting the first time our friend group sees her in the dress to be when she’s standing at the altar with me. Mini update I guess - we’re meeting for dinner tomorrow to talk. She actually reached out to me, so fingers crossed 🤞 Update: She’s not wearing the dress to the June wedding and she even apologized. Yay! That’s the update. I’m going to go on to elaborate but if you don’t like ramblers, I would stop reading here. I like to ramble. Plus I had a few delicious cocktails at dinner tonight (it was happy hour) and tipsy me loves to go off topic and since there’s no one here telling me to stop and focus, who knows what’s going to come out. Im pretty sure this is going to be a long read. I’m using text to talk on my iPad because I hate typing on my iPad. I have a laptop but it’s old and every time I turn it on, it updates for what feels like a year, and by the time it lets me do what I need to do, I’ve lost interest or gone and did it on my phone or tablet, so it’s not worth it. Also I’m not going to apologize for grammar and spelling mistakes. Anyone who comes to Reddit posts and schools people on grammatical errors must get a kick out of it, so have fun, I’m sure this will be full of them. I get there, their and they’re confused sometimes. It makes my sister insane ands she loves to correct me when I do that. Sometimes when she’s feeling down, I do it on purpose just to give her a pick me up, so I get it. Back to the story, when I got there, she was already there, which is unusual because I’m usually the early one. I hate being late. I also hate when other people are late so I tend to get to things early because how can I judge other people for being late if I’m late? That’s no fun. But I was watching Ladies of London and the etiquette lady said that being early is also rude. Who knew. She actually said if you’re going to a dinner party, you should actually be about 15 minutes late so the hosts have time for unexpected things that come up. If you get there too early, they feel like they have to entertain you instead of wrapping up whatever they need to finish. I thought that was interesting and wanted to share. But let me get back to the update. I walk in, she stands up and gives me a hug and apologizes. So of course, I immediately start to tear up which makes her tear up and we’re just standing there hugging and crying in the middle of the restaurant. When we finally sit down, she tells me what’s going on. Apparently she’s been a little depressed for the past few months. She feels like she’s the only single person in our friend group, and I hadn’t thought about it but she kind of is. She said even our friend who is asexual has a partner. Again true. But it’s not like Roxy doesn’t date, and I’m not going to say she’s picky. She just feels like if she can tell that her and the guy aren’t compatible, there’s no reason to waste time. I’ll tell you why it hasn’t worked out with the last 3 guys she’s gone out. Guy number 1. Great guy, owned his own business, and I thought he was very handsome. But he’s not a pet guy. And if you do have a dog, he thinks it shouldn’t live in the house. It should be outside with a nice dog house. And the dog definitely shouldn’t get on the furniture. Her dog is her baby so he had to go. I agree, my fiancé knows to never make me choose between he and my dog. It would not be pretty. Guy number 2 hated his ex wife too much. She said he was always bringing her up but never in a good way. He seemed to always bring her up in conversations. Like they went to the movies, and he said his ex always said she loved movies, that’s why her and her girlfriends went so much, but it turns out she wasn’t really going to the movies, she was going out to cheat. Or they were going for a hike and she had her hair in a ponytail. He told her how cute she looked then said his ex wore ponytails all the time, unless she was meeting up with the guy she was cheating on him with, she always wore her hair down for him. She swears any topic of conversation, he could bring back to his ex cheating on him. She felt like he wasn’t over his ex wife so she cut it off. And guy number 3 just enjoyed fart humor too much for her liking. I don’t think I have to elaborate. My boo loves a good fart joke too, but I find it endearing. She thinks it’s immature. So anyway (I’m going to say that a lot, that’s how I get back on subject) she had been in a funk and I’m sure me talking about my upcoming wedding constantly didn’t help. She didn’t say that, but I do talk about it a lot. I mean look at me, I’m on Reddit talking about it now. So getting back to Roxy, she was in a funk. She picked up the dress from the seamstress and tried it on to see how it fit and she said she felt so pretty. She hadn’t felt pretty in a long time. Isn’t it funny how some outfits just make you feel good? I feel like that in my wedding dress, which I got at a consignment shop, can you believe it? I took it this seamstress and she worked magic on this dress. It was pretty before but now it’s beyond. Now you see what I did there, talking about my wedding again. I’m trying to do better. So anyway, when her holiday office party came along, she so didn’t want to go and procrastinated until the last minute to find something to wear. She went shopping and couldn’t find anything she liked. She even went to Anthropologie and couldn’t find anything in the store she liked and because she waited so long, didn’t have time to wait for an online order. And she knew it was wrong but she wore the dress and everyone loved it. She got so many compliments. Her work crush flirted and danced with her. Even the women there liked it. She hit it off with one of her work colleagues, “Aja” and they’ve hung out a lot since the party. They didn’t talk much before that night because they’re in completely different departments. But now they’ve gone to dinner several times and movies. They even hung out at Aja’s apartment and watched Bridgerton with their dogs who are also good friends now. She also feels like upper management noticed her too because since the office party, they’ve put her on bigger projects. So anyway, life’s been pretty good since she wore “the dress”. And this past weekend, when we were hanging out and I’m of course droning on and on about my wedding and then bring up what to wear to another’s friend’s wedding, that funk came back and she snapped a little bit. She said it really started off as a joke when she said she was going to wear the bridesmaids dress, but my reaction pissed her off. Looking back at my original post, I didn’t elaborate on my reaction. I was hopping mad yall. And I didn’t ask her not to wear it. I TOLD her she wasn’t wearing it because I paid for it. She said I made her feel like a child and I was her mother and she had to do what I told her to do because I said so. Therefore she acted like a child and threw a tantrum. She also hasn’t worn it anywhere else. Again she just said that to piss me off. After the party, she did take it to the dry cleaners, but it’s been hanging in her closet since. Even though I come off looking like an ass, I’m so happy. I even told her about the Reddit post. She thought it was hilarious. She said she knew I must have been mad because I gave her a Misfit name and not a Hologram name. It’s from a cartoon wet both lived add kids. She feels like Reddit was right since most people called her the asshole. I apologized to and told her the ESH people were right. We were both assholes who deserve each other, but I still feel like it’s a happy ending. submitted by /u/Due_Bedroom3146 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for not playing dumb on a double date?
This happened years ago but I told the story recently and some of my friends acted like I was an asshole. I used to work with this girl, Chelsey, who would tell me that she always thought I would be a good fit for her friend Nicole. Each time she said this it felt like she had no idea we have had this conversation before and I was actively getting better at navigating the conversation. For example, I had gone from "Is she cute?" to "What do we have in common?", and she had gone from rolling her eyes to telling me that we're both tall. Chelsey is very attractive, and her friends match, including this stereotypically very attractive tall blonde named Nicole - and I really wanted Chelsey to follow through with setting us up, but she never did while we worked together. Fast Forward a few years and I run into her again, Chelsey is working at this high-end liquor store near my office and I see her from time to time. She mentions Nicole again, says we would be a great fit, and this time I really push for the setup. She tells me the same spiel about how Nicole is also tall, we have the same sense of humour, she's a waitress at a nice restaurant near by, as well as other interests. Chelsey even tells me that she remembers one day I chatted her up about the Walking dead at work and after work she was hanging out with Nicole who basically repeated everything I had said earlier. We exchange numbers and later that day she tells me a time and place, the plan is for Chelsey, her fiancé, Nicole, and myself. I creep her social medias and it's pretty obvious it's the wildly out of my league Nicole. The morning of she tells me we need to postpone, it sucks but it happens, and we schedule it for the following week. Same place. I come prepared - new haircut, new outfit, studied the menu, everything I could think of to put my best foot forward, and I am introduced to a very different Nicole. This Nicole is short, fairly overweight, works at a daycare. I can tell from everyone's reaction that I am visibly disappointed. I decide to go through with the date, but I just keep bringing the conversation back to what I "knew" about her. Asking questions like, "When did you get bored of the walking dead?", "How long have you been a waitress", and "Oh, Chelsey mentioned you have been friends since you were kids!?". Chelsey was trying her best to talk her way around it, but Nicole was visibly upset. The girls went to the bathroom and the fiancé asked me WTF I was doing and I told him that Chelsey obviously meant to set me up with someone else. He said she did, but Nicole kept asking to postpone and clearly wasn't interested, so she found someone else "more in my league". I gave him a sharp look, and he followed with, "Okay, she found another Nicole". submitted by /u/Unique-Tailor-4358 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

We need dress codes back
Tl;dr: so many of you are missing the forrest for the trees. Also, I say this as a minority so let’s not play that card.. It’s actually insane what some parents let their kids walk out of the house wearing now. And spare me the “don’t judge, it’s self-expression” speech . I’m talking about outfits that look like they were chosen during a power outage and a dare. Nobody’s saying students need to roll up dressed like they’re attending a royal coronation but how the hell did we collectively land on “anything goes, including pajamas, crop tops the size of a napkin, and shirts hanging on for dear life”? At my previous school, admin didn’t want to enforce dress code because they wanted kids to “feel comfortable.” Comfortable doing what exactly? Because it sure as hell wasn’t learning. And let’s stop pretending this has zero connection to school culture. When a kid shows up dressed like they’re headed to a TikTok thirst trap instead of math class, that mindset doesn’t magically switch off at the classroom door. We’ve created this bizarre environment where: Expectations = oppression Standards = trauma Basic appropriateness = somehow controversial Meanwhile teachers are just sitting there like: “Cool, so we’re raising future adults who think professionalism is optional.” But yeah. Tell me again how dress codes are the real problem in education. Edit: a lot of you are missing the forest for the trees… submitted by /u/Emergency-Pepper3537 to r/Teachers [link] [comments]

A friend of mine is planning the Fyre Festival of weddings and told me that spending hours telling me the details is her way of including me instead of inviting me.
A friend of mine is planning the Fyre Festival of weddings and I just need to have a vent. It started with them deciding to have it on Christmas Eve, in her home town. The reasoning for this is that they have a pre-planned trip there for Christmas with her family and they can’t afford another one. Never mind that none of the groom’s family or friends are there, most of them have said this is going to be dreadfully expensive and difficult for them because Christmas, and 30% of their guests are from interstate. They’re inviting 80-100 people. Then I find out that she’s costed the wedding at $13K but they only have a budget of $7K AUD ($5K USD) if they can even save up that much. When I asked how they intended to pay for things, she said “as we go” and that she’d organise payment plans so she can pay things off afterward. So they intend to find vendors, then save up for a deposits for them, then book them, then hope they can pay off the rest in time or get a subsequent payment plan. She wants to put their limited budget entirely into the ceremony. She’s allocating thousands to venue, outfits, photographer, decorations. The groom wants a reception, however. So if they have any sort of slightly formal one they intend guests to pay for their food and drinks (not just alcohol but soft drinks as well). Alternatively they’re going to ask people to stop in at a grocery store and pick up a few things to bring to the ceremony for afterward. So fight the Christmas crowds, and then leave food sitting for hours in a hot and dry city in summer. They also want people to BYO chairs. Another possible reception option is to defer it to Boxing Day and invite everyone to her cousin’s house for leftovers. She has not asked her cousin about this but assumes it will be OK because her cousin has an open door policy for friends on Boxing Day. Tell me you’ve never done Christmas without telling me you’ve never done Christmas. All the invited guests can just go without or fend for themselves on Christmas Day in anticipation of some leftover potato salad at the house of someone they don’t know. This includes the groom’s family. To compensate for not having a reception or much of one she is going to have a 2 hour ceremony with 20 people doing readings etc. I say she because none of the groom’s people are included in this. He gets a best man to stand up with him and that’s it. She’s using ChatGPT to write her vows and she is going to do the groom’s vows for him so he gets them right. She told me that right in front of him when we were all having coffee. To keep costs down, the decor will be all DIY. However they are not arriving in the city until the afternoon before the wedding. So everyone else is going to be allocated things to do such as collecting things, storing things, making the arch, making the other arrangements and making the bouquets. They will coordinate from where they are. On the day, others will be allocated set up tasks while they get ready. They will not even have seen the venue until they get there for their wedding. According to her, asking people to do this is a way of including them in her wedding. I found out this interesting perspective when she informed me that the reason she had been waffling all this nonsense to me for hours and hours for the last couple of months and having me help her figure things out is because she is “including” me in the planning part. This means I don’t get an invite because I get to have all my fun and inclusion that way! The friend she has asked to host her hen’s night/bridal shower also doesn’t get an invite because she gets to have her fun planning and running and paying for that event! That friend doesn’t know this yet. After carefully trying to suggest alternatives and highlight issues at various points, I finally expressed to her my concerns that this was not going to work and she was asking too much of people. She got incredibly upset with me and told me I was being unsupportive. When I suggested they take a minute and consider everything she told me that things have been booked and people invited and it’s full steam ahead and I could get on board or get off. I decided to get off. ADDITIONAL DETAILS People have asked for the other details so I thought it might be easier if I just put them here: At one point she looked at having the ceremony in a burlesque bar with burlesque dancers as entertainment during it. This would be in front of 95 year old Nanna, conservative family members, and kids. She eventually conceded that was inappropriate. She wanted/wants to turn up on a Vespa. In a huge ballgown I can barely lift. She put together a planning permit application in case she wanted to have the wedding in a park. She has asked them to close off roads so her guests can have parking. I tried to explain this was not what that was for but she’s adamant. The application is still not approved. She is going to give an itinerary for anyone who is stuck there on Christmas Day so they have things to do. She’s not actually going to spend Christmas with them or invite them to anything. She is planning to purchase a whole lot of crockery and cups etc from Shein for the decor. She intends to give these to a couple of local family members afterward, as a gift for their help during the wedding, because they do a lot of entertaining. I call this offloading junk onto people. submitted by /u/msfinch87 to r/weddingshaming [link] [comments]

AITA for insisting my daughter wear an outfit she doesn’t want to wear to a wedding?
I am NOT OOP, OOP is u/OnlineShopping2026 Originally posted to r/AITAH AITA for insisting my daughter wear an outfit she doesn’t want to wear to a wedding? Original Post: January 6, 2026 I’m looking for some help on a situation with my kids. We’re attending my brother’s wedding at the end of the month. My younger daughter (7) is a flower girl. The bride, who is my brother’s fiancée, took us to a local shop she liked so we could pick out the flower girl dress. My older daughter (12) is not in the wedding party, she’s too old to be a flower girl, but she still needed something appropriate to wear as a guest. She’s very tall (almost 6’!) for her age, which makes shopping in person challenging. We went to several stores and tried on a number of outfits, but nothing fit her right or was age appropriate or was something she liked. So I ordered her dress online from a store called Lulu’s. When it arrived, it fit her well and was in a color she liked. At the time. it felt like the best option. my oldest is upset because her sister got her dress in-person with the bride involved and got to go out to lunch afterward, while her dress was bought online. She says it isn’t fair and has said she refuses to wear it, even though there’s nothing actually wrong with the dress itself. I explained that we did try to find something in stores and that this was the option that worked, but she still feels hurt. I’m not sure whether I should insist she wear it or try to find another solution this close to the wedding. AITA for expecting her to wear the outfit anyway? AITAH has no consensus bot, OOP received mixed reactions, splitting between NTAs and YTAs Relevant Comments Commenter 1: Just take her out to buy accessories and for lunch. How is this something you need to ask the internet? YTA OOP: She shot that suggestion down and said it wasn’t the same. Commenter 2: And neither is their role in the wedding or height. They aren’t going to be the same because they are different situations. At 12 this is something they should be learning. Commenter 3: I think you need to be more direct. Her little sister doesn’t get a choice in her dress. She has a role in the wedding ceremony, and the bride picks out what she wears. Your oldest got to pick out her own dress (emphasis that she gets full control over her dress and her sister doesn’t). Then take out your oldest for a special day of wedding accessory shopping and getting nails done. A lot of this is just standard sibling rivalry OOP: My daughter said she didn’t pick out the dress either. She was against getting it online and said that what I picked was ugly. She said there’s no point in her being in the wedding so she should stay home or stay at her dad’s. And the dress OOP bought for her daughter OOP: This is the dress I bought: https://www.lulus.com/products/romantic-destiny-light-pink-square-neck-trumpet-maxi-dress/2384051.html?src=lulus&ref=search_rr I thought it would cute on her, but she didn’t agree. My daughter sent me this. Is the color going to be a problem?: January 9, 2026 (three days later) Picture of the dress description on the picture of the dress OOP's daughter sent to her Showing a sleeveless, knee-length dress which is a light champagne or pale gold color with a shiny, textured fabric catching the light, giving it a subtly metallic look. It has a V-shaped neckline and a fitted bodice with a defined waist seam. Below the waist, the skirt flares out and features the overlapping, asymmetrical panels, creating a layered, flowy silhouette. end of the description My 12-year-old daughter and a friend went to a thrift store yesterday and found this dress. She says it’s a whitish-gold color, if that makes sense. She wants to wear this to her uncle’s wedding (dress code is formal). But will the color be a problem? I think it may be. But what do you think? Edit: I’m not going to share the photos, but I asked her if she tried it on. She did, and most of you were correct. It was too short. I told her we can talk about this when we got home, but long story short, I had to tell her that the skirt was going to be too short for the dress code. I suggested returning the one I bought for her and to try and find a new dress. she didn’t take it well. Unfortunately, a lot of brick and mortar stores in our area closed. Our mall shut down last year. Most stores don’t stock her size. Someone brought up a dressmaker or tailor, but those closed down as well. Our options are limited. Relevant Comments Commenter 1: On one hand, she’s 12 so no one will think she’s trying to upstage the bride. On the other hand, this is an opportunity to teach her what is appropriate for the occasion and this lovely dress is not it. OOP: The problem is that she hates the dress I bought for her to wear (it’s a long story) but shut down when I tried to take her shopping or find a dress online she’d like. Commenter 2: My friend, we saw the other post. I know she shut you down for shopping for a dress, but has she shut you down for making a fun day, just the two of you? At this point, the dress is whatever, but this experience is going to stick with her as an experience where she was excluded and wasn’t heard, and you’re still focusing on the dress. Offer to take her out for lunch, to buy some special accessories, and steer her toward a dress section at the same store. No pressure, just fun. As for her height, it’s easier to take things in than make things long, and you could find something with ruching on the back. If you still have time to order online, azazie makes lovely juniors dresses, too! You could pitch it to her as something cute, especially if she has any school dances coming up. OOP: She didn’t want to do another shopping trip and broke down crying when I mentioned it. Commenter 3: Based on your previous post, it 100% sounds like the problem your daughter has isn’t with the dress itself but with the experience of getting the dress. Your 12 year old is jealous of the experience your 7 year old got when finding the flower girl dress. I’m sorry but this dress just isn’t appropriate: it’s going to be too short in the front for someone her height, it’s the wrong color, the length of the dress doesn’t fit the dress code, etc. Why not order a few dresses online and make her “buying experience” fun/special as well? You can order a few appropriate dresses online, when they arrive you can invite your brother’s fiancé over and let your 12 year old invite a friend or two over. She can try on and “model” the dresses for you all before deciding which dress is “the one”. You could make it like a “say yes to the dress” type of experience. You could have little snacks and sparking grape juice to toast after she picks her dress etc. This could make an online shopping experience special. Then return the dresses she doesn’t choose. OOP: I actually suggested we buy some dresses online and try them on but she shut down on that comment. She didn’t want to do that and that it wasn’t the same. Commenter 3: I saw you suggested buying some online and she shut it down but she may be more open to it if you made it a bigger deal, not just ordering dresses but making it an experience. OOP: That’s actually what I suggested. I suggested we invite her friends over and she can show off to them and they can help her decide. She didn’t want to do that either. At this point, I’m think I’m going to send her to her dad’s that weekend. Commenter 4: Order online. Azazie, Amazon, Shein (I know the problems with Shein. They're all great for trendy beautiful dresses. OOP: My daughter will kill someone if she finds out the dress came from Amazon.   My SIL is banning football at her wedding this weekend. She’s marrying into a family of Broncos diehards.: January 23, 2026 (two weeks later) My brother is getting married this Sunday. At the time they picked the date, they knew it would on the same day as the final games before the Super Bowl. What they didn’t expect was the Broncos playing. SIL, the bride, is not into football. She thinks it’s boring, which I understand. Football isn’t for everyone. Unfortunately, my brother and I come from a family of diehard Broncos fans. My SIL sent out an email on Monday letting everyone know that they will not be showing the game on Sunday. I get where she is coming from. But I also know that Sunday is going to be a disaster. Nothing in this life is certain except death, taxes, and my dad, his brothers, several other relatives, and even my own daughter determined to find a way to watch the Broncos play. I hate to say this, but I’m entering this weekend knowing it’s going to end badly. edit: I asked my brother to clarify the “no phones” policy. He said that phones are banned during the ceremony (understandable). But that his fiancée doesn’t want people glued to their phones during the reception either. She’s also made it clear they’re not showing the game at the reception. Relevant Comments Commenter 1: this makes me question your whole family, who the fuck gets married during football season? OOP: I’m not the one who set the date. Ask my SIL. To be fair though, my brother doesn’t like sports either. Commenter 2: And your brother is marrying her anyway? OOP: I’m afraid so. Commenter 3: Dude come on. Just be present at the wedding and watch the game on a delay. I watched the final four at my brother’s wedding, and danced and ate and visited with all my friends and family. Don’t be glued to your phone OOP: Tell that to my dad and my daughter. They would rather skip the wedding rather than miss the game. To be fair, both of them dislike the bride.   Update: January 24, 2026 (next day) Hey everyone. I wanted to post an update on a post I made because a lot has happened since my original post, and I did take the comments to heart (even the ones that were hard to read). First, many of you were right: this was never just about the dress. After the post, we tried to do what a lot of commenters suggested and planned a makeup shopping day just for my older daughter. I thought framing it as her special day would help. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well. She’s been getting into very girly, frilly styles lately and loves pop artists like Sabrina Carpenter. That’s the aesthetic she wants. The problem is that those styles just don’t work well on her body right now, and every time something didn’t fit or looked wrong, it felt like confirmation of everything she already hates about being tall. She ended up having a full meltdown in one of the stores. What finally came out was that she hates how everything that fits her makes her look “grown up,” when she doesn’t feel grown up at all. She hates the comments she gets about her height, how mature she looks, how people assume she’s into makeup, skincare, boys, etc. She isn’t. She still likes cartoons, dolls, and kid stuff, and she hates how people tell her that she’s “too old” for those things just because of how she looks. The breaking point that day was actually at a thrift store, where she found a dress she loved on the rack and was so excited about it… and then it just didn’t work on her body at all. That’s when she completely lost it. There’s also a lot of jealousy and hurt around her sister. Her younger sister is getting positive attention for being cute and little and a flower girl, while my older daughter feels like all the attention she gets is negative or uncomfortable. My daughter admitted she didn‘t even want to go to the wedding anymore. Not just because of the dress, but because she already feels like she doesn’t belong. Then we found out that the bride decided they wouldn’t be showing a big football game during the reception. My daughter and a few other family members were really looking forward to that as a way to get through the night, and losing that made her feel even more like there was no point in going. So here’s what we decided. I’m not making her to go to the wedding. I sent back the dress for a refund. My daughter is going to spend the day at a friend’s house instead. Her parents are going to be showing the game, and my daughter is actually excited about that. I pulled my oldest out of school on Friday and we did a special shopping trip, but for a new football jersey she can wear on Sunday, as well as some new books and lunch at a restaurant she likes. I also apologized to her. For not realizing how deep this went, for pushing solutions instead of listening, and for underestimating how painful this whole thing is for her. I know some people will think skipping a family wedding is the wrong call. Maybe it is. But this feels like the best option for us. Thank you to everyone who shared their own experiences—especially from the tall girls who said this stuff sticks with you. That really changed how I looked at the situation. Top Comments Commenter 1: Honestly this sounds like really good parenting. You listened, changed course, prioritized her actual feelings over “but family events!” and found something that made her feel seen instead of shoved into a role she hates right now. The tall girl stuff is brutal at that age and it absolutely sticks, so the fact that you’re validating it instead of telling her to “get over it” is huge. Skipping one wedding is nothing compared to your kid remembering that her mom had her back when she was miserable. Commenter 2: I agree. You did good OP. She’s 12 and I remember how I hated puberty or onset of it all. No doubt she’s also getting creepy male attention a well or feeling those vibes. It’s a horrible time and even women around you also start behaving like periods are great and that you should be into make up / ‘turning into a woman’ 🤮🤮🤮 etc. it’s horrible and awkward and not fun . who knows maybe she will in years to come but no one has been meeting her at her right now and you turned this around to do it. I think letting her be with her friends instead of the wedding is a good call. She’d be bored shitless and uncomfortable. What might be a solution is maybe she might want to learn to sew? That way she can make her own clothing. Maybe it’s something you could both do together as a special activity if she’s open to it. Because it’s a good skill and also you can thrift stuff but repurpose clothing too instead of completely from scratch.   DO NOT COMMENT IN LINKED POSTS OR MESSAGE OOPs – BoRU Rule #7 THIS IS A REPOST SUB - I AM NOT OOP submitted by /u/Choice_Evidence1983 to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

WIBTAH if I asked my daughter’s preschool teacher not to put the extra clothes that I sent for her on other students?
So my daughter started school last Wednesday, and the teacher asked us to send pull-ups, wipes, and a change of clothes for her. I sent quite a few pull-ups, and a brand new pack of wipes, and an outfit as requested. Only the bottoms for her outfit came back, and I saw another student from her class, wearing her shirt when I went to pick her up. Now, I don’t mind if the teacher needs to use some of my daughter’s pull-ups for the other kids, or even some of her wipes. I’ll send extra of those things if needed because I understand what it’s like to be the parent that can’t provide that. However, when it comes to her clothes, I’m not OK with sharing. For starters, if they get sent home on a kid (like the shirt did) then there’s a chance that the school won’t get it back, and clothes are really expensive and I can’t afford to replace them like that. It all pretty much boils down to the fact that my daughter doesn’t really have that many clothes to begin with, so I can’t really afford for them to get ruined, or for them not to get sent back. So, I’m just curious if it would make me the asshole if I talk to her teacher the next day that she goes to school, and tell her that I’m not comfortable with her using her clothes for other children. submitted by /u/feelingstruck to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

My (38M) girlfriend (33F) is angry that she's set herself up to fail and I am entirely unsympathetic
I (38M) am a self-employed building surveyor. A week before Christmas, a client got in touch and asked if I could facilitate an urgent job between Christmas and New Year. Having no kids and very little else to do in that period, and with the money being offered being substantial for the rush job, I agreed to 2 days work, today and tomorrow (29th/30th December). The client is great, the money is great, and I had no other plans. The work is in London, I live in the north of England, so it's hotel stays for me as is the norm for my business, staying Sunday night til Tuesday night and travelling back on Wednesday (New Years Eve) to enjoy the festivities. I told my girlfriend (33F) about this work I'd taken on and she immediately wanted to come with me. I asked why and she said we could have a nice break in the capital and spend some time together. I told her that this isn't a holiday, it's work, and that she's welcome to join me if she can entertain herself but I'm working so she better not moan about me getting up at 6am. She said this was fine, she could see some friends and go to the markets, the shops, tourist stuff etc so I added her name to the hotel room and booked her a train ticket (central London, I'm not paying a fortune to park 45 mins away from site). We travelled yesterday afternoon and got to the hotel, where the first issue arose. It's a budget hotel, part of a large chain that I regularly use, with very basic facilities. She didn't think it was nice enough for a "romantic break". I reminded her this is NOT a romantic break and I'm not spending business income on anything I don't need, like a swanky hotel room, and the room was booked before she asked to join. She pulled her face a bit but didn't say anything else about it. I got to my usual work routine, unpacking clothing, putting tools on to charge, then went to scout the property and nearby amenities. I told her I was off to do this, checked if she needed anything from the shops and headed out, with her just getting into the shower as I left. I returned about an hour later with my usual haul of bottled water, protein bars and bananas which sees me through the working day 'til I find usually a kebab house or similar for a hot evening meal. I'm not poor by any means, but whatever is spent when away still comes out of my profits so I try to stay reasonably cheap. When I returned, around 6pm by this time, she was dressed up in a nice outfit and part way through putting her makeup on. I assumed she'd made plans with a friend so asked her where she was going. She got quite angry at this and snapped at me to put my "nice clothes" on so we could go out. I pointed out that I had not brought any nice clothes, and that I wasn't going out as I had work the next morning. This went down like a lead balloon. She immediately started crying and saying I'd ruined her plans for a nice meal at some restaurant she'd apparently made a reservation for. I again reminded her that I'm not on holiday, I'm up at 6am and I was doing nothing more than eating, sleeping and playing on my Switch 2, which aggravated her more; cue more tears and another complaint about the hotel not being nice enough. I told her she's upset entirely due to her own actions and refusal to listen to me and that I was not sympathetic to her tears when she unilaterally decided my work trip was our romantic getaway. She locked herself in the bathroom so I went out and got us some food. By the time I returned, she seemed to have reflected upon everything and apologised to me. She'd gotten changed into her comfies. We ate, chilled out for a bit doomscrolling then watched a film before bed. I set my alarm for the morning and reminded her I was up at 6, then got in bed whilst she was finishing up in the bathroom. As she comes out of the bathroom, she makes a big thing about looking at her. As I had literally just got my head on the pillow I told her whatever it was could wait to tomorrow and to get in bed. She shouted at me "I've put in all this effort and you're not even going to look?!" so I reluctantly roll over, grab my glasses, flick the bedside lamp on and look over to see her in a very sexy maid's outfit with all the trimmings. She climbed onto the bed and immediately started trying to initiate sex, but I stopped her, told her yes she looked amazing but it's nearly midnight, I'm up in a few hours and need to get some rest. She shouted "well fuck you" and locked herself in the bathroom again. I took my glasses off, flicked the light off and rolled back over to sleep. I'm not sure exactly how long afterwards (I was in a semi-sleep state) she got into bed, gave me a hug and said she's sorry for shouting. I get up the next morning, got showered and dressed quietly then gave her a quick kiss on the forehead, said I love her, was off to work and left. It was a pretty normal working day, nothing of note, and I left around 6pm getting back to the hotel just before half past. She was in the room when I got back and asked if she'd had a good day, she said she'd been shopping as was evidenced by the various bags scattered around the place. I go get in the shower and when I come out she tells me she's laid clothes out for me. I look on the bed to find a whole brand new outfit, shirt, trousers and shoes. I told her thanks but I was getting onto my comfy gear since I'd been in work gear all day and she snapped "you're not going out in your scruffs!" which caught me off guard, so I asked "why not?" which led to her informing me we were going for food and drinks with a friend of hers and the friends husband. I lost my shit at this point. This was the 3rd time in about 24 hours I'd reminded her I'm here for work, not whatever stupid ideas she had in her head. She got upset at me calling her ideas stupid, but I countered with the fact that unilaterally planning romantic ideas on a "working fucking trip" was "incredibly fucking stupid", which caused her to start crying. I told her I'm not interested in her crocodile tears, she's a full grown woman who has elected to ignore everything she's been told, make plans for others they've no interest nor capability in undertaking, and she's now upset because she isn't getting what she wanted. She said I didn't care about her which I flipped right back, pointing out she'd literally decided to ignore everything I'd told her repeatedly, and so she could sulk from now until 2036 if she wants but she's entirely at fault for this and I'm taking no responsibility for her being upset as it's wholly self-inflicted. She was bawling her eyes out at this point so I got dressed and went out to get food, texting her to let me know if she wanted anything. She immediately replied saying she's going home (open return train ticket thankfully). I got back to the hotel about 30 minutes ago and she has indeed packed up her stuff and left. I'm now sat alone in my hotel room, picking at the food I got for her, struggling with one simple question: how could I have made it any clearer that my work trip is not our romantic getaway? submitted by /u/NewKingMorons to r/relationship_advice [link] [comments]

Help me ruin a new slang word for my 17, 17, and 19 yr olds. Last year I ruined the word "rizz." This year I broke them of "giving" by saying things to my wife in front of them like "that outfit is giving fourth kid," or "that haircut is giving tired in the morning." What word should I take on next?
And, what slang have you successfully defeated in the home? submitted by /u/Brewer1056 to r/daddit [link] [comments]

AITAH for wanting to accept a promotion even tho my boyfriend says its not the kind of life he wants?
I (25F) just got offered a pretty huge promotion at work, from being a coordinator for one business unit to becoming a global coordinator. It’s a big jump, both in responsibilities and salary. I’ve been promoted every year since I started here (it’s been 3 years), and this role is honestly something I never thought I’d reach this soon. It would be a big deal financially and career wise. The only catch is that it involves some travel.. The company is actually trying to reduce travel costs, so it wouldn’t be constant. We have four business units in different parts of the world (Europe, Asia, South America), and I’d probably go to each once a year, for about a week each. So in total, like four weeks a year. My boyfriend (32M) is not really okay with that. He didn’t give me a direct ultimatum, but when I brought it up again after he already told me how he feels, he basically said that if I keep pushing for something he’s clearly not comfortable with, then I must know what I truly want and that I should just pack my bags and leave. It really hurt to hear that. I get where he’s coming from though, he wants a stable life, someone more family focused, and he’s been upfront about that since the beginning.. but so have I about not wanting kids untill 30. Thing is… I’ve started to care more about those values too since being with him. But at the same time, I’ve always dreamed of having a successful career. I’ve worked my a.. off for this. And honestly, if teenage me could see where I could head towards now, doing work I love, getting recognition, making good money, and even getting to travel - she’d be amazed by the oportunity.. I don’t want to choose between love and ambition. I really care about him and I don’t want to lose what we have. But I also don’t want to say no to something I’ve wanted for so long and then spend years wondering “what if.” AITA for wanting both? LATER EDIT First of all, thank you so much to everyone who took a few minutes of their lives to share their thoughts with me. I know I asked strangers on the internet for advice, but I often feel overwhelmed and stuck in my own head, and your objective perspectives really help bring some clarity… I am sorry I couldnt reply and keep up with all the messages.. I honestly did not expect so many responses omg :o I tried to talk to him and find some kind of middle ground..I explained that it is only four weeks per year abroad, and that I already spoke to my manager to make sure the traveling will not exceed 10 percent of my working time. But now it seems like that is not enough either… He is starting to bring up other issues, not just the traveling. He does not like that I might need to adjust my working hours to match other time zones. While that is partly true, I would still only work 8 hours a day, just maybe on a different schedule once a week. He is also worried about the people I might meet, especially the men. He does not like the idea of me going to dinners with clients. Or sleeping in hotel rooms alone, because he might not be able to join me on each work trip (also he told me he wont accept me going on dinners while he waits for me in the hotel room). He does not like me talking to coworkers during breaks, which is why he insists I call him on every break I get. He gets annoyed if I do not reply to his texts right away or if it takes me 30 minutes to answer. He wants me to send him my calendar daily so he knows exactly when I have meetings. And if I do not let him know about every single work related conversation with men, whether it is with coworkers, suppliers, or trainers, he gets upset and says I am hiding things. He has very strong boundaries when it comes to my work. No becoming friends with male coworkers, which I accepted without issues- cuz anyways I dont socialize at work at all, no casual/funny tone in messages or emails, no emojis, no hanging out after work, no sharing personal numbers with male colleagues unless he agrees with it. Two weeks ago I went to a three day training in another city. I had to commute four hours every day because he did not want me to sleep at a hotel. On the last day, one of the participants suggested making a group chat so we could keep in touch professionally. I forgot to mention it right away, and when I told him the next day, he got mad and made me get up at 1 a m to show him the chat. He is just very jealous when it comes to my professional life. All this because before I met him, one of my coworkers, a man, became a good friend. I had to cut contact and block that person once we got together. And I have never given him any reason to doubt me. Sometimes I feel like giving up everything and just getting a basic job, like working in a supermarket. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I mean quitting the career I love, just so he will finally stop trying to control me. But then I remember how much I love what I do and how lucky I am to have found something I am passionate about. LATER EDIT2: sorry this will be long. For anyone wondering how I didn’t see it until now, I honestly think it was gaslighting. Never thought i would say this but some strangers (some menaing 10 K holy shiiii) made me realize how fucked up my life is. Looking back, here’s the stuff that happened... At first, everything felt amazing. But even in the first couple of months, I noticed he was kinda possessive, but then i thought he was sweet and caring, especially coming from a relationship with a distant, cold, and indifferent boyfriend.. I’ve always had more of an avoidant attachment style, so his need for closeness felt like a lot, but I tried to adjust. He quickly started pushing me away from all my guy friends. Within six months I had blocked literally all of them. We moved in together and he slowly started micro-managing my whole life. When he was at work (13 hours without his phone), he expected me to write him down in our insta convo everything I did - like when I left the house, went to the store, had an appointment, got home .. so he could basically see a full timeline of my day. He got in between me and my family too. Suggested I only visit them while he was working, so I wouldn’t “waste” any of our time together. I had to go everywhere with him, even if it meant sitting in silence while he hung out with a bunch of dudes talking about stuff I had no connection to. He started giving opinions on how I looked. Told me I lost too much weight. Then told me I gained weight. After surgery and a long recovery, he pressured me for three months straight to get back in shape. Wanted us to be a “gym couple” like him. In the first year I wasn’t even “allowed” to go to the gym unless it was with him. He checked and validated my outfits before I left the house. And I dress super modest - more like a old nanny, not at all revealing -but he’d still say certain clothes were too transparent or not appropriate if light hit them a certain way.. Told me I’m too pale and should go to the tanning salon. Told me I dress better at work than at home, and that it bothered him that i get cosy whenever i get home. Then he started getting WAY TOO involved in my job - asked me to share my daily meeting calendar, text him constantly through the day, explain why I go on-site instead of working from home. Told me to only take home office days when he was home. Give him way too much information about who X,Y,Z is, why do I have to work with him, why is anything part of my job, so on... He read my emails, checked my work messages, my work phone, my gallery, contacts - and the same on my personal phone. Always fixated on convos with guys, never with girls. Slowly, he took over all my time. It felt like my entire day belonged to him. I left him twice. Packed my stuff, went back to my parents. And I came back both times. I ve had health issues every couple of months since moving in with him the first time. Before him, I was almost never sick. I have struggled with irritable bowel syndrome, acne, hair loss, 2 warts, an abscessed hair follicle that had to be operated on three times, ear infections, gluten intolerance, gingivitis, candidiasis twice, ovarian cyst infections, and weekly migraines. Honestly, I think my body started screaming what my brain wasn’t ready to accept. GET THE FvCK OUT I AM HURTING I know some of you might judge me more now after reading all this. But please believe me when I say I really didn’t realize what was happening. I thought I was exaggerating. I thought this was just “what relationships are like.” I thought he would change. That he’d see how much it hurt me and try harder. That he’d start appreciating all the compromises. I never imagined someone could manipulate you this deeply while yelling at you, punching walls, throwing water on you (yes this did happen). And yeah, I made a lot of mistakes too. I wasn’t honest with him many times — because I knew the reaction would be explosive. So I hid stuff. I went to the gym without telling him. I vaped and didn’t tell him because he banned from the begging vaping, alcohol and clubbing. I lied and said I had in-person meetings at work just to get a break from the house he was in and leave. I even told him I had a car payment just to avoid explaining where my money for vapes and helping my parents went. And I believed that I deserved all of this because of the lies. I still kinda do. But I know that I want to break this cycle. I want to get better. I want to deserve someone better someday. Because i haven't, and I still don't. So thank you to everyone who’s been messaging me. I haven’t read every single comment, but 99.9% of the ones I did hit me like a slap in the face -in a good way. Each one opened my eyes a little more. So thank you. Fck it, no matter how manipulated you are by a narcissist, when ten thousand strangers tell you to wake up... you do. Now I see things clearer. Tomorrow I have a session with my therapist — the same one we saw in couples therapy. She knows the dynamic. We're going to work on a safe exit plan. I’m scared, but I know this has to end. submitted by /u/ThrowRAxbx to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for telling an old lady to shut up after she questioned my kids outfit?
My daughter (3) is OBSESSED with dress up, makeup, picking out her own clothes and accessories. Since she’s 3, the style is...eclectic. A few days ago it was her Shirley Temple costume, snow boots and a paper Halloween crown she got from the library. She’s in costume a lot. My wife and I don’t care, we encourage it! As long as she’s warm and it’s seasonally appropriate. She doesn’t give much attitude if we ask for more “relaxed clothes” either, like when we wanted to get a nice fall pic of her and her siblings. Today the outfit is actually a little more toned down- a fancy dress she got for her birthday, my fanny pack, sunglasses and some cowboy boots. She did her makeup though. She doesn’t get it a lot because her skin is sensitive but when she does it’s normally like blue and purple eyeshadow and crazy blush and the likes. Kinda a hot mess tbh but she’s expressing herself. Her and I went for a nature walk through the park earlier, and I noticed this older lady walking ahead of us kept glancing back at her. Finally, she stopped and asked if it was really needed for a girl that little to wear makeup, and how it was probably uncomfortable for her to be marching around in that get up. I told her my daughter liked her clothes and makeup and that it was fine. She said “I just don’t know why you would push all that on a young child. To many parents try to make their kids grow up fast”. So I said “lady, she’s happy. Maybe you should try to be happy too. Don’t say another word to us” and when she started to say something I just told her to shut up and my daughter and I walked past her. Now that all is said and done, I realize she was probably just an old lady and that I probably should have just ignored her. Maybe I should have been nicer. AITA for saying what I did? Edit! Thank you everyone! I feel a lot better. Also, her makeup is from a brand called Klee? Her godparents spoiled her and got her a few sets. It’s very gentle but still, we try to keep her face clean. Outfit today is last years tap recital costume over footie pjs. She also has her brothers lunch box for a purse. submitted by /u/throwawaythedressup to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
