How do you come up with an idea for a final painting that looks real / how do you master the physics of shadows?
Ever since I stopped painting realistic photos from the internet, I've been stuck because I can't think of my own original idea for a painting. For example: I can think of a few visual things for a modern painting like a palm tree, a sunset and blinds - I often have a vision without shadows. But I don't know what color the blinds and everything around them will be, the shadows, the palm trees from the shady side (they'll probably be all black), what the rays coming out of the blinds will look like, where the reflections will go, etc. So I've been thinking for weeks, waiting for inspiration, looking for some photos on google that unfortunately don't have the light and atmosphere I need at all. Moreover, a painting in general shouldn't be simple but it should have the artist's skill, the ability to work with atmosphere and emotions - unfortunately, I'm only visual and I don't want kitsch. I think I can think of a painting as I go along, only when I've painted a few things, how the colors and nature turn out, then I'll finish something there, but it shouldn't be like this. I shouldn't waste my acrylics on something incomplete, I am poor. A true artist who makes a living through art already has a vision and realizes it – first a few black and white art sketches, then composition, color theory, etc. It's not exactly easy to use an art book because the shadows can be mixed randomly and the hardest part is making them look realistic. I can only do that from a photo. It seems to me that the painting is a puzzle, it consists of many pieces, but they have to look unified. How do you deal with the physics of shadows, the physics of objects, their color spectra, lights and reflections, when you don't have an exact photo? submitted by /u/mswisecat to r/ArtistLounge [link] [comments]

Would love some ideas and inspo pics of y'alls yards for redoing my front yard. I already removed my lawn from the back and am planting more polinator friendly plants and edibles for us, but since it's the back it can go a little more full chaos garden meets eco system than the front. I hate the solid rock front yard and while we don't have an HOA. We do have people who will complain and need it to be relatively easy to maintain / keep cleaned up for us. And I'm probably doing most of it myself because of budget. Right now I'm thinking of raking the rock towards the front sidewalk area. So basically river rock back would be wood chips, ground covers, shrubs etc. I also want to plant another tree in the front opposite the orange tree. Something to help with shade because it's a south east facing yard, but edible. I just can't decide because Everytime I like something I get new info like it's horribly invasive, or the roots will kill everything within a mile etc lol. I was also thinking of planting some Tacoma varieties along the side house like a hedge to help help with heat. That's all I have really so far. Any ideas on how to decorate a ceiling without painting it?
I know I'm talking about a ceiling and not a wall, but I wasn't sure what other flair to use. To keep it short, I want to decorate my bedroom ceiling to have it look like the sky, so quite a bit more than just one solid color. If it was a wall, I'd just paint it like a mural, easy. Only problem is; standing on a step ladder and craning my neck up to do a detailed painting on a damn ceiling sounds painful and unsafe. Is there any other way I could do this, preferably without hiring someone? I thought about maybe painting something like paper or cardstock and then attaching it to the ceiling, but I don't know if that would really work, or how exactly to go about attaching it, so of course I ran to reddit. Thank you to anyone who can help!! :) submitted by /u/suspicious_suspender to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Wedding dress, acrylic pieces to make it look like stained glass
Hi everyone! 👋 I’m hoping to get some advice and thoughts on a fairly ambitious sewing project and I’d be incredibly grateful for any input. Background / the idea I’m getting married in spring 2027, and I’ve known for a long time that I don’t want a traditional wedding dress. I’m drawn to something more floral, artistic, and a bit unconventional. I’m heavily inspired by an Oscar de la Renta dress made from hand-painted acrylic panels sewn together, and I want to create something in that spirit, but using my own custom pattern/design. The dress will feel very spring-like and botanical rather than classic bridal. I plan to: Add shoulder straps for comfort and support (I have a larger bust, so strapless like the original inspiration isn’t realistic for me + I think it will be more comfortable as the dress will be quite heavy). Make the acrylic/plexiglass skirt removable, with a softer skirt underneath. Mostly for comfort (no sitting on hard plastic 😅), but also flexibility during the day. Planned approach My current plan is: Sew a fabric mockup of the bodice and skirt and iterate until the fit and shape feel right. Digitize/scan the pattern pieces and turn them into my final illustrated design. Send the files to a company I’ve already spoken to, who can laser cut the acrylic pieces. Hand-paint and hand-sew the pieces onto the dress myself. (Ideally the laser-cut pieces can be delivered in some kind of logical order so I don’t have to puzzle everything together.) Where I need help / questions 1. Changing body measurements I gave birth to my son about a year ago and only recently stopped breastfeeding, so I’ve just started actively working on losing the remaining pregnancy weight. My measurements will definitely change over the next year. How would you recommend starting a dress like this when final measurements are unknown? Is it realistic to build a solid foundation now and plan to alter it later? I could recut or resize some acrylic pieces myself if needed, but I’d love advice on how to plan this smartly. 2. Removable skirt construction I’m unsure how best to attach/detach the acrylic skirt securely. Fabric skirts are easy (buttons, ties, etc.), but this needs to feel stable. Would something like bra-style metal hooks, corset hardware, or another system work best here? 3. Fabrics and structure I’m not a total beginner, but I’m far from an expert, especially when it comes to fabrics. What fabrics would you recommend for: The bodice/base that needs to support the weight of acrylic? The layer the acrylic pieces are sewn onto? How many layers would you expect a dress like this to have? Would a petticoat make sense here? I’m considering sewing the comfortable inner skirt directly into the bodice, and having the acrylic skirt as a separate top layer. Does that sound reasonable? I’m trying to keep the budget as low as reasonably possible. I know this won’t be a cheap dress, but I’d rather spend money on good materials and fit, and save where I can on construction choices. Thank you so much if you’ve read this far, and thank you in advance for any advice! submitted by /u/One-Writer-117 to r/sewhelp [link] [comments]

Lost the floor lottery... What would y'all do?
Trying my hardest to do right by my old house (built ~1910) but the previous owners sure haven't made it easy. I have no idea how a floor even gets to this point! I don't think it's a subfloor because I found an old floor latch for French doors into the dining room. It's just in rough-ass shape. I still prefer it over the beige carpet that was down before. It really sucked the life out of the space. Is this a candidate for paint? Overwhelmed submitted by /u/personal-coalmine to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

No more plastic storage boxes! I use old steamer trunks and suitcases in our attic
I was tired of plastic boxes breaking at the handles and the plastic seems to become brittle after a few years. And they aren't even cheap. So I bought ten old, large steamer trunks and suitcases. Some of them date back to the late 1800s. I cleaned them and mostly gave them a cosmetic makeover. On some I had to remove old moldy fabric, sand and paint the inside. I gave the handles leather grease and polished some of them up again with beeswax. Re-varnished the wood bands. They are now beautiful, solid craftsmanship storage that will probably last another hundred years. Besides that I smile every time I go to the attic, they give off a magical old-world feel. UPDATE: Thank you so much for all your kind comments! Here's a little more info about the project: 1) I bought them on online markets. In Denmark and the Nordics, steamer trunks like this aren't very expensive if you take the time to find the good deals. On average, I paid 25 EUR (about 30 USD) per suitcase. 2) The large plastic boxes I replaced were thin, a bit poor quality, low to medium price range. Not top shelf quality! 3) Luggage tags. Great idea as suggested by u/Tara-BuyMeOnce-CEO, among others. I already have a pile of old tags that I bought from a military surplus warehouse for the project. Good quality in leather and brass. They just need to be put on. (Here's a picture https://imgur.com/a/PBgzv4B ) That's what's needed to complete the project! Also the great map idea! 4) They don't smell musty :-) I've mainly bought some that were in good condition and have subsequently both cleaned them and given them surface treatments corresponding to the materials. They smell of wood, leather and varnish/wax. (In addition to that, I've thrown a desiccant packet and a french potpourri sachet in each of them, which makes them smell so nice every time we open them) 5) They are not very heavy even though they look like they are. Some of them are made of light wood (balsa/pine) and they are quite easy to handle. And they stack pretty well. 6) Our attic is dry and ventilated and mold (or rodents/insects) has fortunately never been a problem even though the temperatures can fluctuate quite a bit. Clothes and linen that we also store in them are in sealed garment bags. 7) Someone said that old suitcases could be haunted! They don't seem to be haunted (I hope - fingers crossed) But there is definitely a different atmosphere in the attic now. I know this isn't a storage solution for everyone, but for our small household it works well with the things we have. Plus we think it looks cool with some good old craftsmanship. Even though it's an attic, it might as well look good. I hope this answers some of the questions Best regards submitted by /u/r37n1w to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

The Helicopter experiance is miserable right now.
Currently choppers are borderline useless unless you are against a team that actually has no one trying to put you down. Look, I get it. No one wants to be stuck against a Chopper that is going 50-0 with no effort whatsoever and I am not advocating a return to this, especially not the stupidness of Littlebird pilots from 2042, But if there is even two people on the enemy team who want to even put in half effort to deal with choppers then thats it, your team wont have a chopper stay in the air for longer than 30 seconds and if it does? Then its not actually doing in anything because it is constantly having to hide/RTB. EVERYTHING kills a chopper in BF6, even small arms completley fuck you up unless you are using the armour upgrade, which is currently the only one worth using because interfearance just dosnt work, Heavy warheads make you so slow you are even easier to kill than before and I think the Radar system is broken as well. I've seen somone finish of a chopper with a pistol which is just absolutley ridiculous. The second you lift off, you are being locked onto, painted and probably have two TOW's flying towards you. Taking a chopper out with a TOW is honestly childs play and there is SO MANY of them, Enemy choppers have them, The IFV's have them, the MBT's have them, there is numerous stationary positions on maps, TOW's are stupidly fast and responsive to movement adjustment making a chopper easy to hit even if it is flying as fast as it possibly can. RPG, Im not sure how, it has become so much easier to drop a chopper with an RPG than the previous games, Im not sure if its due to the fact the RPG is incredbly fast with very little drop but previously it is not something that would happen all too often. Painting. This whole system is just BROKEN Right now and air vehicles have nothing they can do about it, I know this goes for jets as well, The IFV MR missle with Laser gunner combo is un-beatable if the two operators are half competant. Can a chopper demolish an IFV with a TOW and Heavy rockets? Sure. But the Chopper is never going to get close enough to be able to do that if the IVF is looking out for them, and the people abusing this broken combo just sit at the back of the map activley looking for targets to laser and missle. This dosnt just go for IFV's though, because Recon now starts with the Laser designator, evey recon has it so you get painted more often by them, not just leading to IFV missles but the Chopper gunner AGM, Jet AGM, Tank Lock on shell ALL WHICH IGNORE FLARES - I am currently unsure if the Javelin ignores flares as well. This is the biggest offender because there is no defense from it other than getting lucky to get behind something before the missle hits, because once it is launched you loose all indication that you actually have incoming, you are not warned about it and you just say painted, sometimes even nothing. Jets delete you in 0.2 seconds with no way to respond. I get Jets should be a natural predator to choppers but from a balancing perspective to have NO WAY to try and evade, unless the Jet sucks at aiming then you are, once again dead with no way to respond. On top of all this, evey map has stationary AA positions, AA tanks and Engineers with Stingers. There is just simply too much shit for you to have to try and deal with when flying you dont even know what to prioritise anymore. In 2042 flying the attack helicoper (Apache/Hokum) you knew how to work through things, Target enemy chopper first, then AA, then go from there. But in this what do you choose first? it all as equally deadly to you and part of that smart target prioritisation was how you successfully stayed in the air for extended periods of time while still having to play the cat and mouse game due to Engi stingers, AA mounts on other vehicles etc so you could still be kept in check to an extent. I get it, people will say "yeah, a Jet should delete a chopper" and "IRL that is what painting does" and "IRL Choppers are actually super flimsy". But this is not IRL, this is a game that is supposed to have balance in place and things your CANNOT defend against are not balanced. TOW's and RPG's I think need toning down in both speed and responsivness/Drop, but they can be avoided I guess. Painting combo'd with unflarable missles and Jet cannons that cannot be avoided short of user error on the jet or Laser/Missle users end cannot be avoided. All of this together just makes the Heli flying experiance absolutley miserable. Again, I get it, no one wants to be on the receiving end of a dominating chopper, that is ALSO a miserable experiance, but the things are swayed so hard against choppers currently is not even funny. I mean ignoring the Attack Heli situation, dear god the Transport chopper situation is even more dire, the only good thing it has going for it is the miniguns are actually decent for one but the thing cant stay alive long enough for it to be used as any form of support vehicle so it is just used to fly somewhere and get dumped. Im not sure what the solution is, Im am certain the painted/Lock on missles is currently broken and not intended to work that way and maybe that fix is all it would take, maybe the IFV could do with loosing its laser on the gunner so it cant be a one vehicle does it all situation a and has to rely on the team. Maybe the gunner could be given ECM counter measures on a chopper so they can try to counteract paints meaning the pilot couldnt do it all and would requir communication between Gunner and Pilot, ya know teamwork. But IDK, Im just spitballing here not saying any of these ideas are good or the solution. But something needs to change. I am going to assume my issues here also extend to Jets to a degree, but I've nopt really used them so maybe some jet pilots can have some input here? inb4 somone comes in saying they dont have this issue in choppers and go 50-0 evey game, good for you because you have been incredibly lucky and also the people who think helicopter pilots are the bane of existance and should burn in hell and are happy choppers basically dont exist right now, Why can you not just want to let eveyone have their fun? submitted by /u/SilentCyan_AK12 to r/Battlefield [link] [comments]

Easy project ideas to add to my haunted dollhouse?
Hi all, This is my dollhouse from my childhood I painted black a while ago. Since then every spooky season, I bring it out and add some details. Last year was LED lights. This year I'm looking for ideas for easy to make details that increase the spooky factor. For example, I used some stirring sticks and left over wallpaper from the living room to make door frames. What would you do to add to this? submitted by /u/mdt205 to r/Dollhouses [link] [comments]

Idea for painting direct vision blocks of Sherman Easy 8
While painting details on my Tamiya Easy 8, I was wondering what color the direct vision blocks should have. And apparently WW2 Sherman cupolas had hardened glass direct vision blocks, which had a green tint. So I tried painting green Vallejo Game Ink on the inside of the clear parts and it works really well! The vision ports are still transparent but with a slight hint of green now. Very happy with that. submitted by /u/Doc_Quixotte to r/modelmakers [link] [comments]

The perfect occasion to finally make this gown
The idea for this dress has been lingering in my mind for a looong time. I know you don’t need an excuse to make something but there are just too many ideas and not enough time, so I axed it off my to-sew list in favour of more pragmatic makes. HOWEVER. After I bought my ticket for Frocktails this spring, they announced the theme was to be Enchanted Garden, so this not only reemerged on my list, but it fluttered straight to the top. The skirt was a modified #KwikSew2252. I wanted the silhouette of the skirt to resemble wings, so that was an easy accomplishment. I tried to create gathers along the medial edge of the front right panel but the paint changed the drape so I ended up pleating it instead (with mediocre results). I also added in-seam pockets because I never know what to do with my hands and everything. must. have. pockets. The bodice was self-drafted. I asked my husband to wrap me in Saran Wrap and cover that in duct tape (he happily obliged once I explained why). From there, I roughly outlined how I wanted the bodice to look by drawing my seams with a sharpie. After carefully cutting it off me, the real work began by turning that into workable pattern pieces. It took a few tries to get the fit right, and I finally nailed it after a couple of incredibly edifying sessions with a sewing coach that I won through last year’s event. I assembled the skirt and bodice separately, covered my office in garbage bags, then hand-painted the whole thing using acrylic paint mixed with a fabric medium. When the paint dried it stiffened the fabric just enough to make it a little more challenging to sew and achieve the flowier look I was aspiring to, but overall this is what I envisioned and I’m kind of amazed it came to fruition. I also hand-embroidered matching earrings because I couldn’t find anything online that I liked 🥴🤷🏻‍♀️ I can add a comment with the earring details if anyone wants that. Where to refill my size K stubby gas tank?
Just got this sweet new tank That's perfect for mobile welding. It's the same diameter as a size k(250cf) but only 7 inch tall to the bottom of the valve, 13" total. Super lightweight and easy to load up. I hope I don't run into any issues. Switching it from helium to argon. It does have the star stamp on it, so I'm not too worried. Okay for real, this is just an art project. I am Tempted, however, to take it into one of my local suppliers just to get a laugh out of them. It's a K tank cut down, re welded and re painted. I had to weld really cold and with lots of stop and starts So I didn't burn the stickers off, only maybe 1/4" of penetration, So I doubt it would actually be strong enough to hold much pressure lol. But I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to actually try filling one of these up. Anybody got any good ideas of how to do a prank with something like this? Maybe connecting my buddy's Welder to it While he's on His lunch break and seeing his reaction when he tries to weld? Pretty lame idea but hey, that why I'm asking you guys. Or maybe I can take it back to Matheson And say that they sold me a defective tank that shrunk too much in the dryer. God that's so stupid. The Lakers got exposed going small because they don’t have a Draymond Green
One thing that always stands out to me is how the Warriors can get away with small ball even against teams stacked with size like the Wolves. Gobert, Naz Reid, and now Julius Randle should be a nightmare for a small lineup to deal with but somehow it works for Golden State and that “somehow” is Draymond It’s not just that he defends bigs. It’s how he anticipates plays, how he communicates, how he positions himself to shut things down before they even start. He’s basically the defensive quarterback and that kind of control lets the Warriors stay true to their identity instead of reacting to the other team You can’t say the same for most teams. The Lakers tried going small against Minnesota and got picked apart. It’s not that small ball doesn’t work, it’s that they don’t have a Draymond. Nobody on that roster brings the same mix of defensive IQ, strength, and leadership. Without that kind of anchor the whole idea falls apart Draymond covers up the size mismatch with timing, awareness, and just pure toughness. That gives the Warriors the freedom to stay fast and skilled without completely giving up the paint. People say “just switch everything” like it’s easy but it only works if you’ve got a guy who ties it all together He’s not doing it for the box score. He’s the reason they can still play their brand of basketball against any team no matter the matchup. submitted by /u/nihar123456 to r/nbadiscussion [link] [comments]

I let a bar in my town borrow two pieces of my art and when I went to pick them up the owner said he didnt know what happened to them
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is Princemerkimer. They posted in r/Advice Thanks to u/anicole325 and u/BakingGiraffeBakes for the rec! Do NOT comment on Original Posts. Latest update is 7 days old- this has not been posted in this sub before. This sub has a 7 day waiting period. Mood Spoiler: happy ending! Original Post: April 1, 2025 Title: I let a bar in my town borrow two pieces of my art and when I went to pick them up the owner said he didnt know what happened to them and that its likely they were stolen. Any advice? So the title sums it up fairly well. Ive struggled for years to get my art into local galleries around town but the financial strain of submission fees has made it almost impossible. So I stupidly let a bar / restaurant owner borrow my art for their wall. This was a little less than a year ago after they saw it on display at a vendor market we hosted on the pavement outside the establishment. The owner really liked my stuff and wanted to put it up but he didnt want to buy it (i know, it was stupid- but i had been drinking that day and was desperate for someone to enjoy my art at the time). Anyway- fast forward to now. I went to the bar with a few friends the other day and noticed that my art wasn't where it normally was- saw the owner there and my buddy is good friends with him so we went up and asked about it. He basically said that he didnt even notice they were gone… when I described the pieces he essentially said “oh yeah i love those paintings- yeah they were probably stolen idk” ( paraphrasing here). I told him how important they were to me and he was unapologetic about the whole affair. When I tried to make a deal with him he appreciated my gumption to ask but was uninterested in making it right. Is there anything at all that i can do? Or am i screwed and these paintings gone forever. Would love some advice on this. Super worried someone in town snatched and destroyed one or both. For context: I live in a pretty religious town and one of the paintings was a gay couple. Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Oh, I wanted to add that I believe borrowing is different than showing. If they asked to hang it then I think they should pay a fair price. I would advise that you don’t burn your bridges if you see interactions with them in the future. Maybe a sweet credit for the bar would work for both parties? Could be interesting. OOP: Yeah i asked him if he would be down to repay me with beer credits or something similar but he didnt seem interested ☠️ Commenter: Do you have pictures of them? I’d post something to a local FB page and tag the bar saying they were stolen and you’d like them returned. A little public shaming might help things along. OOP: Yeah i have done this and i have a bunch of friends who are also friends with the bar owner reposting my pics - thanks for the advice ! Commenter: So quite often in bars I will actually see art for sale. There'll be a little pricetag on it. You should pop on by and see if any of the current art is for sale. My guess is it was a cash-deal. OOP: Yeah his co owner was supposed to email me to set up a sale price and stuff like that- he never emailed me. So thats another L for me The timeline: Yeah im pretty sure it was about a year. New Comment: I had been to the bar a bunch of times and even took some people to check out my art and they were always hanging up until now Commenter: Don’t do that again without a paper-trail and appraisal for amt in case something like this happened. I’m a low risk high reward betting man. And if I had the chance to bet on this I absolutely would. Their hanging in his house , or vacation home or kids home. A business owner. That’s survived for sometime is rarely that much of an airhead he knows where everything came from and where it all went OOP: Yeah i agree with you- this guy is co-owners with his brother and they own like 4 or 5 businesses in my town 🙄 i know hes not an idiot- he was definitely giving me the run around Update Post: April 24, 2025 (23 days later) So i recommend checking out my previous post from r/advice for the original story. Lots of comments saying the situation was a lost cause and to chalk it up to a good life lesson. Well.. we'll see how lost this cause is. I know someone with experience dealing with the law so they helped me take the next step after I read and considered all the comments on my last post. I went to the bar and talked to one of the bartenders who knows me and asked if they knew anything about the paintings- they said “no, i have no idea what happened to them but we all loved them they were amazing, i didnt know you were such a good artist”. I resisted rolling my eyes at the flattery but moving on- I asked if the owner was there and they said yep he's sitting inside- sooo i went and spoke with the owner about whether he had checked the storage rooms for the paintings like he promised and he said that they weren't in there. What the owner didnt know is i had a letter in my pocket for them that basically laid down an ultimatum. Pay me for the lost / stolen paintings or return them by a set date. Well i was nerve-wracked the whole weekend after hand delivering that letter. This dude and his brother run about 4 restaurants in my town so theyre no slouch when it comes to business dealings and needless to say, i was full of anxiety. On tuesday the 23rd, i got a text from the owner's brother saying, and i quote, “We have your paintings on site. They were put in storage as we were decorating for the holidays.” Hmmmm very convenient. I was so excited when i got this text tho. The owner had me convinced they were stolen, mind you. So to know they were safe and sound (despite being lied to - to my face) I was ecstatic. I went Wednesday to pick them up from the restaurant and when i went to talk to the bartender (a different one than the previously mentioned one) they said something along the lines of “i saw your friends post about them being missing and i was like- thats weird theyre right here in the storage room”. I played along to be polite cause i still didnt have the paintings in hand yet. But my gut knew the whole staff was in on this BS. Every single person's story has been different so far. Long story short- i have my paintings back. Ive lost all respect for one of my favorite bars and have learned a valuable lesson about getting everything in writing. To the nay-sayers who told me i had no legal recourse, i hope you all have learned a valuable lesson as well. Your property, is your property. Period. To all the people who encouraged me to go legal, i salute you. I didnt have to go to court or go to the police but this letter definitely scared the shit out of these dudes. Thanks everyone for commenting on my last post and hope you all rest easy knowing the paintings are home now lmaoo Edit: linked pics of the artworks in the comments for those interested Edit 2: i was at work and wasnt thinking straight - linking the paintings here now cause my brain works again lol Painting 1 Painting 2 Thanks for all the comments 🍻 Some of OOP's Comments: Commenter: Next time, have a signed contract with the business, stating the value and that their insurance is liable for loss, theft or damage. OOP: Yes i got a lot of these comments on the other post - lesson learned Commenter: Awesome!!! Now make sure you let local artists know if they are dealing with anyone from their several businesses to have a good contract so their work doesn't get "stolen by customers" or "misplaced". OOP: Definitely will! Thanks for the comment 🍻 Commenter: Kinda just sounds like the owner didn't know where they were because they had been moved by someone without any communication. Jumping to the conclusion that being told something false means you were intentionally lied to seems like a leap of bad faith. OOP: Idk the stories just didnt add up in the moment- its possible that it was all a misunderstanding.. but my gut tells me otherwise. The very first thing the owner told me was that they were most likely stolen- not "maybe theyre in storage". I was getting a lot of red flags all thru the original conversation Commenter: May I ask, was the letter from a lawyer? What was the gist? OOP: The gist was basically if i dont get these paintings or money by a set date then we gonna have a problem Commenter: Could you go into the backstory/inspiration behind these paintings? OOP: The kiss is really dorky but im a huge fan of an old show from the 60s called the Time Tunnel. The main characters get lost in time together and .. need i say more? I painted it to symbolize that feeling of resilience gay people needed to have in that era (and today tbh) The other was an angsty self portrait i painted while working thru some stuff lol not a whole lot to go into on that one 😅 Thanks so much for your interest 🙏 submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

I Met A "That Guy" At My Local Warhammer Store
So, I (25f) am new to the Warhammer hobby, having only painted 4 Space Marines for 40k and right now I'm currently half way through painting a Vampire Lord for Age of Sigmar. And unholy hell the vampire is a lot fiddler than the marines... Anyway, my story begins earlier today when I went in to my local warhammer store to talk to the store manager there (let's call him Drew) to get some advice and tips, to pick his brain. He's been such a wellspring of helpful tips and tricks, and is such a kind guy and always happy to help. Every interaction I've had with him has been a positive one. But when I went in today, he was already busy helping out someone else, and looked like it was a pretty big sale with the amount of boxes piling up on the counter. Guessing someone was starting a new army. Regardless he smiled and waved in acknowledgement as I walk in before going back to the conversation he was having with the customer. And hey, I don't want to interrupt the guy while he's working, so I'm just browsing while I wait, looking at nothing in particular but making mental notes of some stuff I might want to paint some other day (the ghosts are cool, y'all). Enter "that guy", TG, stage right... Now I want to preface this. I know that a TG encounter in the wild is like running into a shiny pokemon. It's pretty rare, it's not something you're exactly expecting, but you always remember it when you do. Anyway, I'm there with my half painted vampire in one hand, and a chaos space marine character in a box in the other, just minding my own business, admiring the paint job of this particularly hyper-detailed angry man. "You can't run that with your Sisters" is his opening line. At first I wasn't even sure he was talking to me. But there was no one else in this corner of the shop, so he must be talking to me. No sooner than I can ask what he's talking about, he grabs the box with the angry chaos man and waves it dismissively. Saying something about how I can't put a character for Chaos in a Sisters of Battle army. Ugh. Now, I do my best to be as dismissive to the guy as I can be, telling him that I don't even play and that I only just came in the talk with (Drew), and wander over to another part of the store to go look at something else. But, alas, nothing much deters a TG, and, of course, he follows me. "Oh he's busy at the moment (no duh). I can help... so what does your boyfriend play?" In hindsight, it was an obvious fish to see if I "was available" or not. And as soon as I said that I don't have one, I knew that I fucked up. Ugh. The leer he gave me then turned my stomach. I was trying my best to ignore him, looking at some cool lizardmen so intensely that every detail on every scale was getting burned into my eyes. He tells me all sorts of things that I barely listen to, stuff about how many armies he has, how he's been playing and painting since he was a kid. Even goes into stuff like that he dumped his ex because she thought it was a waste of time and money (sure), and that his next gf is going to be someone who likes to paint too and that he can get into gaming (real subtle there). I guess in all his leering he noticed the mini I already had in my hand. I know he looked at everything else on me... big ugh. He asks what I have there and goes to grab my hand that's holding the mini. No way. I jerk my hand back, tell him I'm not interested as I scooch past him, and pretty much power walk over to the counter where (Drew) is ringing up hundreds of dollars worth of boxes. I interject myself in their conversation, asking the customer about his new army, how long he's been into Warhammer for, pretty much anything to get normal people to have a normal conversation. And hey, this guy is pretty cool too, gushing about all the little ratmen he just bought, how he's been waiting for like 20 years for new models of them, and how he is going to spend his vacation painting them up. When it's just (Drew) and I at the counter, he does ask if TG was bothering me, and I did tell him that yeah, I was getting creeped on hard. He says that TG is a regular at the store, and he'll talk to him when he sees him next. Turns out TG had slinked out of the store while I was talking to actual human beings. Anyway, I get to talk to (Drew) properly about my vampire and show him what I've done so far, and he gives me some tips for painting the face. This will be the first time I'll be painting a face this small, the other space marines I'd done to this point all had helmets. But he breaks it down in a way that makes it soujd easy, and let's me sit down at one of the painting stations so I can get started using some of his own personal stash of paints. And I found out that sitting down to paint is also a great way to release some tension after having such an unpleasant encounter. He did gave me some ideas for the base too, and what normal every day household items I can use to make it look how I want it to look. The whole reason I went into the store to begin with... Sorry about the wall of text. I just needed to vent out into the void. I'm still replaying the whole encounter over in my mind and all the things I could have said and done differently. But also I didn't want to cause a scene either. I do hope that (Drew) talks to That Guy, if only to curb his behaviour in case another girl finds herself in my shoes some other day. Tldr: girl goes into shop and gets creeped on. Edit: for those asking for a wip of my vampire: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulblightGravelords/s/N0vdjHTv4O Edit 2: unholy hell this post blew up! Thank you everyone for your input. Sorry I can't reply to every one of you, I wasn't expecting this at all 😵‍💫 Edit 3: just to address some common comments... a few people have shipped me and (Drew) in the comments. He's married, we both like girls, and he's probably old enough to be my dad. He's cool, but that ain't happening. The recipe for my purple is roughly 3 drops of luxion purple, 1 drop of purple ink, over a shiny silver basecoat. A few people have pointed out that some of TGs behaviour would indicate that he's on the spectrum. Obviously, this complicates things in how to deal with TG. It doesn't excuse his behaviour imo. But it does put some things in context. One random encounter with a TG isn't enough to push me out of the hobby. If I let a TG push me out of whatever I was doing when I encountered one, I'd not go to work, I wouldn't go see a movie, I wouldn't go swimming, I wouldn't walk my dogs, hell I wouldn't even go grocery shopping. TGs are everywhere, not just in nerdspace. Also I think a lot of people are misreading certain parts. I'm all for talking to people and interacting with them, talking about nerdy things is fun, especially when I'm still new and learning about stuff myself. People are what can make a thing more interesting. But when someone, unbidden or uninvited, invades my personal space, especially after I ignore them and walk away from them, and yet they still follow me around, openly leering, and then trying to touch me unwarranted... That's not good. That's harassment. That's bad. If you think there wasn't anything wrong with the way the guy behaved, then take a good long look at yourself. ... UPDATE!: I went back into the store yesterday, and another positive experience. (Drew) told me that he has spoken to TG about his behaviour, and TG told him to convey his apologies. That was nice, but I let Drew know that an in person apology would be nicer if we bump into each other again. And if he wants to talk with me about painting and collecting he can, just don't creep on me or stare at my tits. Hopefully, that's simple enough... Anyway, I got the vampire mostly finished at the store using some of (Drews) paints that I still don't actually have yet. I finished the rest off at home, making little paper mache rocks, and using some molders putty for the dirt. And here is the finished mini https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulblightGravelords/s/14tQdZBTtr Anyway, that's it. I hope this whole fiasco can be put to rest. Thanks for all your support and kind words, everyone 😊 submitted by /u/rose_revenant to r/Warhammer [link] [comments]

Neighbor is going to start a war- advice?
Hi there, I recently caught my neighbor bringing her grandchildren over to my front yard to play with my Halloween decorations. I went out and asked if they need something, and explained that we had just planted grass and would appreciate it if they stayed off the yard. She had my number beforehand and could've asked for permission and I would've said "not until the grass matures." I was very friendly in the interaction, but got the NASTIEST text from her after. She threatened me, saying they have every right to play in it because they own it. I sent her the survey saying they clearly do not own it and now she's starting a neighbor war. I did nothing wrong here, advice? My plan is to just ignore her. EDIT: no front yard fences here. I wish it were that easy! Edit 2: wow, thanks for all your responses. To sum up all of your ideas: Hit them with the sprinklers (I might actually do this) Plant bushes (I like gardening, so I might do this too) FIRE ANTS (no elaboration was provided but I like the spirit!) Some not so great ideas: Let them keep "their" yard and be agreeable to a lawsuit when the kids inevitably get hurt Never decorate or landscape again. It's their right to use the land if they like how it looks, so never do anything that looks nice BUILD A FENCE that will cost a lot to install and take a lot of time to take down when I am cited by the city. I'm not sure why none of you believe the part of my post about "no fences" shoot them (I mean, this IS Texas so maybe I should....) And a personal favorite: NSFW, graphic pumpkin man decor. I'll do that next year. UPDATE: Nothing had happened since I posted, so I assumed she got over her little hissy fit. Today, I got home and there was TONS of crap on my lawn. She's doing a major renovation and told her contractors to set up shop in my yard. There are 2 miter saws, about a dozen buckets of paint, mortar, etc., and various piles of flooring on my lawn. A truck is parked in my yard. I politely asked them to move their stuff to her yard and they said she told them she owns my yard. I called the police. Hopefully this is the end of her shenanigans. submitted by /u/Conscious_Treacle901 to r/homeowners [link] [comments]

I want to stop doomscrolling and relying on my phone so much for dopamine. What are some non-screen activities that still give you enough dopamine but are also easy/chill enough to not add to your burnout?
A lot of the Internet articles I see are, “Clean the house!” “Learn a new skill!” “Do a DIY project like painting furniture!” Bruh. When I get home from a long day I have no energy. Those ideas are just too much for a burnt out ADHD soul. I need stimulating but not full-of-energy activities. Suggestions? submitted by /u/tbgmdhc278 to r/ADHD [link] [comments]

LPT Request: activities/hobbies that can make you feel like you have a talent for something, but are not too difficult to learn
Ever since I was a kid, I've had dreams way too big, like many children or teens. I daydreamed of being a famous musician, or painter, or writer. Then other days I wanted to learn how to sew, or program, etc. It all came crumbling down eventually when I realised I was absolutely terrible at all of this, and even worse, I didn't try much because I found these activities so difficult to learn and perfect. Now I find myself in my early 20s with no hobbies or talents whatsoever. I work a 9 to 5, and honestly, the hours I spend home I wish I were at work instead because at least I would be doing something. Life genuinely feels so dull. All I've been spending my free time on since covid started has been watching shows/movies to entertain myself and play The Sims ocasionally. Like, that's all going on in my life (besides sometimes hanging with friends/family, but I'm talking hobbies or activities here). I need to do something creative or I'll die of boredom, but starting is so hard. Any advices? EDIT: I'm going to comment on the most popular/recurrent responses (there are so many, thank you all!) and say what I think about them. I'll come back in a week or two with another edit when I eventually try some of them. PS: I already garden and do volunteering (both suggested many times), but taking care of my plants doesn't take up enough hours in the day and I can only volunteer on weekends, so I was looking for something else to do mostly on workday evenings, but thanks! Cooking or baking: for starters, I can't bake right now because my oven broke lmao, but I could try cooking something easy. I've always been an awful cook, but I will look up easy recipes and see what I can do! Cross stitch, embroidery or crocheting: this looks very interesting, especially crocheting. I've seen some cute designs (blankets and even plushies) that people post online and I'd like to try. I'll order the basics tomorrow, and keep you updated! Playing an instrument: it's a no, unfortunately. Last year I tried to learn how to play the ukelele and it was too frustrating for me. I love music, but I don't think I like playing music much. Disc golf: this was suggested a few times and I'd never heard of it, but it seems fun! I'm not sure there are places near me where I could play it though, but it's a maybe. Pickleball was also suggested a lot, might have to look into that also. Hiking, climbing, running or other sports: I'm not a sporty person at all, it tires me to even think about it... I can try going for more walks on the evenings, though. That counts... right? Puzzles or painting by numbers: yes! it's a great idea. I have a puzzle that was gifted to me a few years ago collecting dust on a shelf, I think I'll give it a try soon. Again, thank you everyone! :) submitted by /u/sapphicor to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

LPT: Keep a list of gift ideas for the people in your life
For maybe the past 5 years now, whenever I get close enough to someone that I feel like I'm going to be regularly buying them gifts (for birthdays or holidays mostly) I make an empty list in my phone with their name on the top. Then I wait. As time goes on, people have a tendency to mention things they really like or want. Whenever that happens, I just quietly add to the list. Watching TV and your girlfriend casually ways she really likes the robe that some woman on screen is wearing? Added to the list. Walking through Hallmark with my mom and she says she really likes these small glass statues l? List. Now it's [non-denominational winter holiday] and while everyone else is scrambling for a present, I can rest easy because I can just consult the list and get everyone something that they will both love and never see coming. I've learned that the real power of the list comes after it has accumulated entries. Once this happens you can combine gift ideas in a way that the other person could never expect. While going through an art mueseum 8 months ago with my (now ex) girlfriend, she casually mentions that she really likes this painting. I look at the title and author, take a picture, and add it to the list. She also really likes jigsaw puzzles. Once I noticed that I added it to the list. For her last birthday I was looking through the list to see if I could think of anything and I decided to get her a custom jigsaw puzzle of this one painting that she loved and has since never seen again. She was stoked when she opened it and it's been her favorite puzzle since (even after the breakup). I went from being a terrible gift giver to being incredible at it. People are genuinely excited to recoece a gift from me now. Seeing their face light up every time their birthday or a holiday comes around makes this a huge payoff for basically zero effort. submitted by /u/vrcngtrx_ to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]
