Hello. I was recently told to follow a gluten-free, dairy-free diet. I batch cook all my meals at home and have no issues with cooking proteins, but baking and anything with flour/baking powder is a mystery to me. In the past few weeks I purchased gluten free vans waffles, which I ended up using as a breakfast and, sometimes, as a snack alternative. I used about 1.5 box per week. I am not a fan of the oatmeal, and I cook rice/buckwheat/cornmeal for other meals. This is at a motel. I work the night shift. This note was from my boss this morning. Not only is she cutting the hours of the entire front desk team by taking over 3 shifts a week (the hours cut will supposedly be “split evenly”), but she also cut the breakfast attendants’ shifts by nearly 2 hours each day. The front desk doesn’t have anything to do with breakfast. Now the boss wants night shift to start the breakfast prep every morning. This would be an extra 45 minutes of work each day on top of our normal duties. And to make things worse, she knows we don’t have food handlers permits and wants us to do this anyway. Typically, the front desk manages the coffee bar and handles the cleaning of the lobby, among our other duties. For the night shift, this also includes security sweeps and deep cleaning, but it also means a lot of downtime, which is the whole reason I took this job, since it’s perfect for schoolwork or studying between tasks. Adding more responsibility without out a pay raise = them getting more work for the same cost = giving me a pay cut. Someone gifted me the Dash mini treat maker. I had asked for it so I could make mini waffles for my young child who has been missing mini waffles. I was staying at a hotel in Chicago last month with my children (M22, F18) and the place offered free breakfast for guests. They had the usual cereal, juice, coffee, yogurt and fruit setup. They also had one waffle maker that made one waffle at a time. It was in a smallish room on the 6th floor with about 20 or more people in there. I was hungry but waited patiently in line, as each waffle cycle takes three minutes. There was a youngish adult woman ahead of me and just as she finished removing her waffle and I started stepping forward, she poured the batter for a second waffle, I'm guessing for a friend back at the room. Three more minutes of standing there as the tables started filling up. I said loudly something like, "A second waffle? I didn't realize we were doing that! Another one?" She didn't respond. I let out a sigh and sat down at a table to eat my non-waffle other breakfast food. When she was done, the nice guy who had been behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said I could go ahead and make mine. I thanked him and did just that. Then I thanked him again as I was leaving. AITA for saying something and not just waiting or should she have made one waffle and got back in line for the second one? What if she decided to make waffles for two more friends? That's six more minutes for everyone standing there.
