eh... what a failure... spending 12k already gone broke? so many brother here spending 1.2k on paddel, and weekly hundres to book court on pickleball also not yet broke anyway- what is capca? i used to play hearthstone... probably spend 1k++ to it. before it got ridiculous and pointless to play proper without spending a lot in every expansion.

Y’all I am *genuinely* confused about this. There’s this popular park with 6 pickleball courts. It was my first time playing there and last week my friends and I decided we were gonna go and play. I reserved a court for 2h and didn’t think anything of it. That place is always packed so I was kinda wondering why all the courts were available to book but assumed it was because I was booking it 1 week in advance and most people must book it the day before or so. This morning we got there right on time. The people playing on the court we reserved were done exactly at the time we were meant to start so it all seemed very normal to me. After a while a couple friends of ours arrived and we took a break to say hi to them, and this is when it went south. Some other group just walked onto our court and were like ok our turn! I was like “oh we have this booked until 1PM!” and 3 out of the 4 ppl started to walk away without saying anything. The 4th guy however looked at me and asked “seriously? you reserved on a saturday morning?!” and I, very confused why he seemed so mad, so said yes and asked him why. Without any explanation the guy just says “that’s an asshole move” and walked away kinda pissed off. It honestly gave me a little bit of anxiety because I couldn’t tell why. About 40 min go by and this older man asks me “did you reserve this court?” in also a kind of pissed off tone. I again confirmed and he said “I didn’t even know you could book it on saturdays” and then asked under what name. I told him my name and he grabbed his phone to go check that what I was saying was true. Apparently (we learned this later) people just line up to play and whenever a game is done the etiquette is that you give up the court and go back in line until it’s your turn again. However none of these people are paying to play, they’re basically using the public city courts for free. Here’s the kicker though - the city is closing down 36 pickleball courts and there’s a petition to keep them open. I assume that if everyone paid for them the city wouldn’t actually be closing them down because they’d basically pay for themselves, no? Anyway, I’m very confused by this whole interaction today. Just wanted to rant/share a little here because this was super frustrating. As the title says, my girlfriend and I (20F & 21M) went over to pine nursery to play for about an hour on court 3, just a little bit of one on one practice in the beautiful sun today. Note, according to the BPRD website, Bend Pickleball Club website, as well as the signs posted around the courts, courts 5 through 16 are reserved for the pickleball club, while all other courts are always public. We made sure to pick 3 so that we were out of the way of any club members since we don’t want to be in anyone’s way. About 15 minutes into our time, a large group started showing up for what we would figure out is a round robin style tournament event, probably 40-50 people. A woman first walked up to my girlfriend and rudely told her “we’ll be playing shortly” without making any eye contact or explaining what was going on. We were both confused, and she just walked off. A bit later, a man started to approach me from one court over and asked if we were playing in the tournament to which I told him we were just playing for fun. He responded by telling me “well then you guys are going to have to leave”. I asked if he was in the pickleball club, since the posted signage says their reserved courts are 5-16 like I stated earlier and I’m sure most people that play are aware of. Instead of answering or continuing the conversation he just held up a hand towards me and said “no arguments” repeatedly while I was trying to ask him questions. A third guy came over a few minutes later and was at least polite, but claimed they are “changing the numbers on the courts” which didn’t make much sense because nothing had been updated, and parks staff had been there probably 20 minutes earlier. He then pointed towards other courts that were either already full or marked as reserved for the club according to the current signage. What bothered me most wasn’t even just being told to move from a public court, but the attitude and disrespect from these people when I was just trying to understand what was going on. If there’s some legitimate scheduling issue then fine, explain it clearly. But acting like random club members can just remove people from public courts with no explanation is ridiculous. Has anyone else had issues like this before? (Ended up much longer than I expected, apologies for the rant) UPDATE: Spoke to someone at BPRD and was told they will “follow up” with the pickleball club and that when new courts open there will be 8 total open to the public in the park. The City just converted one of the tennis courts into 4 pickleball courts, which has attracted a massive amount of new pickleballers. There have been little to no issues with regular pickle ballers before the coversion since they set up their own nets on the other tennis courts and stayed off the other in consideration for tennis players. But, since the conversion, new groups of pickle ballers have been setting up nets on the existing tennis courts in addition to the 4 new pickleball courts that were just added. They’ve even gone as far as setting up camping chairs and such right on the tennis court as we are playing sets. As you can see in the video, my hitting partner had little room to move on his side due to the pickleball group’s intrusion. So, is there really no way to fight against this? or do we have to accept the reality that public tennis courts will quickly fade away in the coming months/years?
