Why YSK: Always thought you couldnt bring power banks on planes at all. Turns out TSA allows them in carry-on as long as theyre under 100Wh. You just cant check them in luggage because lithium batteries in a cargo hold are a fire risk with nobody around to deal with it. The math: mAh x voltage / 1000 = Wh. A typical 20000mAh bank at 3.7v is about 74Wh, well under the limit. Been flying for years with mine buried in my bag praying nobody would confiscate it. I’ve never used any powerbanks probably due to news I used to hear about them catching fire and exploding. I however need one: 20000 mAh, 20-35W power output, wired as I wish to charge my phones (iPhone 16 pro and 13) while I’m travelling and clicking pictures. The power bank may be exposed to sun and become hot so I’d prefer something that is safe and maintains low temperature while being used. After my Nitecore 20,000mAh power bank failed (likely not its fault - it swelled after 1.5 years without use), I decided to purchase something different for my upcoming Scotland crossing next month. I bought the new INIU Power Bank P62-E1, 20000mAh 65W Ultra Compact from Amazon for $47. I received a fairly early unit - serial number 124. At first glance, it looks very promising: weight of 325 grams (on my home scale), 20,000mAh capacity. Testing To test the power bank, I used my Samsung S24 Ultra with its 5,000mAh battery. When I connected the phone to the OUT2 port, which allows charging at 36W, the phone displayed "Super Fast Charger." Indeed, it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to charge the phone from 15% to 100%. How much are those theoretical 20,000mAh worth in reality? According to simple calculations, I should be able to charge my phone 4 times (5,000×4=20,000). But that's all theoretical - because there are energy transfer losses and other efficiency issues. In practice, I was able to charge my phone 3 times through the 36W connection: First time from 15% to 100% using 30% of the power bank (70% remaining) Second time from 23% to 100% using 31% of the power bank (39% remaining) Third time from 14% to 100% using 36% of the power bank (3% remaining) This means that in practical terms, we're talking about 2.6 full charges of 5,000mAh each - or a total of about 13,000mAh real-world capacity. As for charging the power bank itself - charging from 3% to 100% took about an hour and 15 minutes using a 45W charger. What I Liked The weight (325 grams) is very similar to the Nitecore NB20000 (322 grams) It has a battery percentage indicator - which is very useful The corners aren't as sharp as the Nitecore, so I'm not worried about it tearing anything in my bag Truth in advertising: they claim you can charge the Galaxy S24 with its 3,880mAh battery about 3.7 times, which suggests around 14,300mAh capacity - not far from the 13,000mAh I actually achieved on first use (it might improve slightly with continued use) Bottom Line An excellent alternative to the Nitecore NB20000. ***EDIT**\* It actually states on the powerbank itself that the output capacity is 13,000mAh: "Output Capacity: 13000mAh/5V/65Wh (Typical energy loss accounted)" It is refreshingly honest - acknowledging that there's always some conversion loss when using a power bank. Hey, i wanted to buy a power bank to use on my phone and a tablet. Better if its 20000mAh and i dont really mind the fast charging capabilities. But the most important thing for me is the battery life, i want to know which one has the best battery life (as in how many charge cycles it can endure). I wont really use it a lot, probably twice a week at most. Since its black Friday it would also be pretty cool if you could mention some with good discounts, thanks! P.S: I am very aware there are plenty posts like this one, but ive struggled to find any that mention battery life and charge cycle. Feel free to educate me too on this subject if you want to, some tips for better battery life always help. Edit: Ive found on amazon "Baseus Power Bank, 65W Power Bank 20000mAh" which has a 50% discount and seems pretty good based on reviews. Edit 3: wow this blew up, thanks everyone for the discussion. I'll leave a few quick things here: The MVPs here seem to be the Anker PowerCore 20100 (and 20100+) and the Aukey PB-Y3. Remember that power over USB-C can go both ways, so make sure you turn the battery ON BEFORE you plug it into the Switch, otherwise you may end up using your Switch to charge your battery pack! Remember that cables can make all the difference, and bad cables can sometimes cause problems with your devices or even be dangerous. Google Engineer Benson Leung has been compiling a list of his tested and recommended USB-C cables, which you can find and buy through Amazon at www.bensonapproved.com. I would highly recommend looking there first if you are looking for new cables! Also, whether or whether not your joy-cons are connected seems to make a big difference. If you have one of the battery packs that didn't seem to charge while playing very well (like mine), try playing with the joy-cons detached and see if that helps. Since I hadn't seen a post specifically for this topic, I thought I'd make one. I'll post some of the ones that I have found already and link to the original post/comment. For those that aren't aware, the Switch supports USB with Power Delivery (USB PD for short) for charging. It seems like a lot of pre-existing power banks are incompatible and won't charge the Switch efficiently, however some users are reporting that certain power banks are charging their Switch just fine despite not officially supporting USB-PD. Please leave a comment with your model and if it's working or not working. If you're able to provide an Amazon link to that specific model then even better! When I get home I'll test out my Aukey PB-N36 and report back if it's working or not. I'll edit this post throughout the day with the ones that are submitted so people don't have to dig through the comments. Anker PowerCore 20100: works well according to /u/freakintoddles, as posted here. Unclear at this point if this one will charge while playing or just keep the battery at the same level while plugged in. Will charge the battery to full while playing! Anker Astro E5 2nd-Gen: working just fine according to /u/velvetpans0124 as listed here. RAVPower 23000mAh Power Bank charges while playing with no issues using the 5V/2.5A port, per /u/deetari here. This RAVPower 22000mAh Bank is working great according to /u/cpaul420 here. Xiaomi 20000mAh Power Bank charges, but slowly. Thanks /u/NeoTheFox Anker PowerCore 13000 charges in sleep mode. Will NOT charge during gameplay. Thanks /u/emdkay Aukey PB-N15 will charge slowly while playing, and charges just fine while the Switch is in sleep mode.
