Protonmail issues? Need an email provider to upgrade with for business but hit a wall again.
Tried posting to r/protonmail a few hours ago and got Google vibes with this message, eek. The recent AI decisions companies are making is doing a disservice to genuinely innocent accounts. Thankfully, my account is NOT disabled, just wanted to know if others have experienced missed emails. Short story long... On a mission to deGoogle after Google senselessly disabled and locked an account I had for over 8 years, simply for clicking no 1x on my phone for a change I made on my laptop. I get it, sign me out of the Chrome laptop, but why my Pixel? (ye, GOS goals) Back to ProtonMail... Sent my protonmail info from my Outlook. Never got it. Sent same email to Gmail, got it. An hour later I sent protonmail a test email from both Gmail and Outlook, got them! Where's that first email? Am I missing more? I was getting ready to upgrade and get my domain emails going so I can get my business started and I'm back to square one. It's just one missed email but it's like that one 'No' click, I can lose everything. Any business owners here with advice on which email provider to use for my domains? Is ProtonMail AMAZINGLY and securely downloading email images and other assets?
I have stumbled across something that intrigues me. I'm new to ProtonMail, and I like the service so far. ProtonMail handles email images differently from Apple's Mail client, and depending on the reasoning, it might be amazing. Here's what I'm observing... I have LittleSnitch installed on my Mac. For those who don't know, it's an application-level firewall. Whenever an application attempts to connect to the internet or something from outside tries to connect to an application, LittleSnitch notifies me, and I must approve or deny the connection. The application allows rules, so I am not repeatedly prompted for connections I already know about. When I open Apple's email client, I get bombarded with new connection requests. For example, I receive connection requests from Kohl's.com, Nespresso.com, ConstantContact.com, etc. I deny all these requests because they are usually tracking pixels, images embedded in the email, or other tracking mechanisms. I still get all the emails, but since I deny the connections, no images load. If I want images in an email, I can approve the connections, and everything displays normally. ProtonMail behaves differently. I only get prompted once for a connection to Proton.me. All my emails load normally—these are the same emails I see in Apple Mail. The difference is that Proton's emails have all the images, yet I'm never prompted for their connections. Somehow, Proton is fetching images without my email client connecting to those websites. How does this work? It seems like Proton.me is downloading the images on behalf of the email client and then adding them to the email. If that’s true, it’s one of the most impressive features of the product. Hopefully, what I'm saying makes sense. I've attached examples of LittleSnitch rules and the emails in Proton and Apple Mail. I have been unable to buy concert tickets for a week with the transaction failing at checkout because they have blanket banned accounts with protonmail email addresses from buying tickets. I am forced to drop ProtonMail as my business email solution because it gets consistently blacklisted by filters
I have been on ProtonMail almost since the beginning and it has been a pleasant, though at times bumpy, ride, so this pains me deeply. However, since about mid-2024, public institutions, customers, my accountant, my tax guy, etc. have my emails directly moved to spam by their filters, and it's become an unbearable nuisance. I use my email exclusively for LEGAL work as an IT consultant, and it's not a me-problem since they do get my emails from other accounts I have tried out. Since it's detrimental to a small business like mine having emails tagged a dangerous or spammy, I am dropping ProtonMail for a less "problematic" alternative. I will remain a customer for other services for the time being, but this is done for. Anyhow, I tagged this "Dicussion" because I was wondering whether some of you have experienced similar problems while using ProtonMail for business. I am in Germany, if that makes a difference. EDIT: More Info: I use no custom domain, so that's not the issue. Also, having a ProtonMail account also bars me from some SaaSs, e.g., RingCentral – which I use with clients with my old Outlook email – won't deliver any msgs when you register with ProtonMail (tested with multiple accounts belonging to different people), so you can't even confirm the account. LPT: It’s essential to remove yourself from all of the major background check websites, even if you don’t have a criminal history.
There are lots of major background check sites out there that sell your information to any interested party. This includes your cell phone number, address (current and previous), social media information, email, criminal records, relatives, known associates, etc. Anyone who is interested can find it out very easily. Such as someone you match with on a dating app who searches through Facebook using your name and location until they find you, then use that information on one of the background sites (i.e. stalkers). Also, potential employers are not supposed to look at this sort of information when making hiring decisions, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some do. If you want to make sure you are as safe as possible on the Internet, you should spend a few minutes removing yourself. I did it for myself over the last 30 minutes or so and put together a list of the biggest players and their Opt-Out web addresses. edit: From what someone else commented, apparently the smaller background check websites pull their information from the bigger background check sites, so the ones I linked to *should** get rid of almost all of your information from sites like these.* Although some people have mentioned your information might reappear after a year or so on some of these sites, so it’s probably a good idea to set a calendar event to check it each year. LPT: Create an email address for your car.
This has worked so well for me. You can send everything regarding the car to it: maintenance records, gas receipts, registration, even pictures of it before you let a friend borrow it or leave it parked for a while (for insurance reasons). Doing this keeps everything in one place and puts a time/date stamp on everything you send it. When you sell the car, you can turn over the email address or just forward the new owner everything that's relevant. This is going to be a long thread with every event from last August on how Binance has stolen my grandfathers money, how they fuck you around, and why you shouldn't do business with them. Here we go. July 17th, 2020: Signed up on Binance, compeleted Basic verification. August 12th, 2020: Advanced Verifiation Successful Fiat Account Verification Successful Started Wire for $100,000 August 14th, 2020: Sent the wire of 100k from the bank Got an email saying they got the wire Go to login, and the account is disabled Got an email saying they accepted the wire Tried to reactivate and got an email saying Your request to reactivate your account has been denied for the following reason: 7_DAYS_REFUSED August 15th, 2020: Sent them an email asking why the account got disabled. August 17th, 2020: Got a reply finally which said Hello, Thanks for your reply! In order to assist this further, please reply with the following information: 1) Video of you holding your ID along with them stating the following: "My name is XXXX YYYY, today is [Today's Date], I confirm that I'm in control of my Binance.US account and that I accept the terms and conditions." 2) Most Recent Bank statement of the account utilized We look forward to hearing back from you soon! Best, Kai Binance.US Support August 19th, 2020: We made the video and sent it in. This is in hindsight, a mess up on our part, as he sent the wire from his closed bussiness account, which is now a personal account to him. The assets of the company were sold, but obvisouly the bank account is still his. You don't sell you bank account with a business, that would make no sense since a dollar == a dollar. But this is what we replied with. Attached is the video. I'm having trouble with attachment size, as it only allows up to 25mb, so I have to send the bank statement in another email. I need to get my money off the exchange, and I have been trying wire withdrawals at different times, and none of them worked. I never got the confirmation email, on 5 or more tries. I never done online banking, but I saw ACH on the withdrawals page, and since wire isn't working, I decided to bite the bullet and enable my online banking with Washington Trust.
