I got my platinum blonde done at a salon, and after a few washes I started noticing some parts looking way whiter while other spots look slightly yellowish 😭 At first I thought it was just the warm lighting messing with me, but now I’m not even sure lol. I want my hair to look more icy rather than yellow-toned. UPDATE BELOW OROGINAL POST! Thanks everyone :) ORIGINAL POST: Please read! I don't need the neon pink to last, just ANY pink. This neon fades even after a rinse to a peachy pink (see second pic). My best friend since sophomore year of highschool (now 25) is getting married in a week. I love her dearly. I recently dyed my hair pink from blonde/white and made a post about it, and she swiped up on it and said it has to be a natural color for the wedding. This surprised me, since my last hair color was not natural- it was closer to white (see 3rd and 4th pic). Anyways, is there a way I can achieve that without putting anything damaging in my hair? I didn't think this was possible, and if not then I would try to go back to white. But I hear that's not really achievable with any sort of red dye in your hair My original idea was to dye it pink, then purple, then blue, and then go darker and darker or whatever before she said anything. I don't have a stylist, just a different best friend who likes to dye hair and me being super lax about the color of my hair. I have just been enjoying seeing it in many different ways. I'm not good at hair or makeup stuff, so forgive me for my ignorance! For context here are photos. Dyes used are MANIC PANIC and BradMundoX. Both pink. Before that it was just bleached with blue/platinum toner shampoo and conditioner mask. Whenever I wash my pink hair, it fades very much because MANIC PANIC is impermanent (though I have heard a portion of pink dye is permanent, which is why it never truly fades after a wash) Before it's suggested, I did offer to buy a wig. I always thought when you say blonde, purple shampoo is a given but i think i read somewhere that it isnt always the case. My stylist mentioned to get a copper shampoo but the brand she is asking me to get is salon-grade that comes with “cautions” like prone to staining surfaces, need to wear gloves, etc. So I’m reaching out to look for alternatives that is still good for daily/weekly use. after hours of my own research and a year of putting it into practice, here we are today. wanted to share some tips on how i grew out my extremely bleach damaged hair without putting down the bleach in hopes i can help someone else. here is what i learned after so many people told me that i would have to dye my hair dark or stop bleaching to get it to grow again: root touch ups only: don’t wait longer than about 8 weeks or your hair will start growing at different rates causing a higher risk of breakage / banding. i also don’t like going under 5 weeks as stylists are not robots and a little bit of overlap is unavoidable which will cause slight damage every time. i find 7 weeks to be the sweet spot that allows my hair to rest while not risking banding. partials or fulls are actually more damaging as it’s virtually impossible for your stylist to not go over the same blonde pieces. always root touch ups. NO HEAT. put that straightener down. i have not used a hot tool since March 2025 and I never will again. most of my damage in the left photo was caused by trying to have my cake and eat it too. you can have long bleached hair, but you cannot style it with the same heat you use to bake cookies. absolutely NO products with protein. protein overload is real, and it will cause your hair to snap. the abby young method is not for us. i meticulously read the ingredients of all my products and only use that which has no hydrolysed keratin, wheat protein etc. moisture products only!!! (they do not need to be expensive, just moisturizing, not repairing) LESS IS MORE: i use a k18 oil leave in and a leave in spray. that’s it. especially if you have fine hair. i used to overload my hair with products hoping something would work. in the end, it just weighed my hair down and contributed to dryness and breakage. keep to a simple routine and let time do its thing. a silk pillowcase and microfiber towel are not just marketing hype. they truly have helped me to have less tangles = less breakage when i brush. also, don’t brush your hair wet. i do now, but i didn’t for a year while it was very fragile. also used a wet brush and a boar bristle brush when it was completely dry 1x daily to spread natural oils *wanted to note that i do not like silk bonnets. i find that the bands are always elastic and pull at my baby hairs on my neck and hairline causing additional breakage, especially after a fresh root touch up don’t overwash. i find once every 3-4 days to be the sweet spot. more and your hair will be dry, less and your hair will be dry. it’s a constant yin yang (optional) stop with the purple shampoo. they’re super drying. as you can see in the left photo, i was going ham on the purple shampoo. it completely stripped my hair. i dont use jt anymore and while my hair is a little yellow, its so much healthier. embrace the slight yellow. go for a toner if absolutely needed but the best is just a good lift so you dont have to cover the imperfections. and if you’re only doing root touch ups and correctly, it should not be hard to get to a buttery level 10. no extensions. i know it’s hard in the beginning because bleached hair can get so thin, but it’s a bandaid solution. there is no extension type that won’t cause noticeable damage (yes even clips). If you absolutely must, i’ve heard good things about halo although i personally choose to abstain i’m a natural level 6 btw. people will tell you the bleach is ruining your hair but im living proof it doesn’t have to be that way. 9/10 people can’t sustain blonde because they dont have the knowledge on how to maintain it. it can’t be treated like non bleached hair. but i promise you can bleach it and have it look healthy. you just gotta change your routine. there’s a lot of misinformation about this online especially surrounding the products to use. stay away from k18 repair mask. i hope this has been informative to someone. once i started seeing platinum hair as a hobby that needs to be maintained rather than just a hair color, i was really able to grow it. and i hope to grow it even longer! my goal is waist length by next year. good luck to everyone growing out their blonde and if you have any additional tips, please share them! submitted by /u/Valuable_Canary_4874 to r/Haircare [link] [comments]

My natural hair is a dark blonde, i coloured it dark brown 2-3 years ago, then started matching it to my natural hair again. But after 2 weeks, its ORANGE. Like actually COPPER ORANGE... and I hate it!! i cant colour my hair every 2 weeks obviously.. so my hairdresser said: use purple shampoo. Used it, EVEN MORE Orange. Because Purple didnt cancel out Orange, it intensified it like insane... So ~5 Weeks later: I bought a Blue shampoo and a Blue Mask. I used it every 2 days, about 10 times now, left the Shampoo on for 10 Minutes and the Mask for 15. Nothing changed (well my hair is smooth af now) but not a single bit of less Orange. It still has the shiny copper tone. and i hate it, its terrible on me, its seriously so bad. Colouring it over and over again is not an option for me because i want my natural hair to grow out... Hi all! I’m on the hunt for some product recommendations that will keep my blonde nice and bright looking without making it look dull, purple, or ashy/icey. At the moment it’s looking a little orange/yellowy/brassy. Basically it just looks pretty washed out. (Depending on who you ask) I am naturally a level 7, maybe 8 blonde and have some relatively light highlights. I’ve had some luck from the L’Oréal metal detox range but I think I need something further. Every time I use purple shampoo my hair looks incredibly dull and looks darker than beforehand or has a purple tinge to it, no matter how much or how little I use. I’m a guy with a bright green mohawk. i've had green hair for a while. i have to use a lot of hairspray to get it to stick up so i have to wash my hair almost everyday. this makes the green fade pretty fast so i mix green hair dye with my shampoo and conditioner to make the color last longer. this is a common thing people with colored hair do. anyways, one of my friends stayed the night at my apartment after a show we went to because she missed her bus. in the morning she asked if she could shower. she obviously didn't have anything of hers because she hadn't planned to stay the night so i let her use my stuff. i showed her how to use my shower and told her to use my husband's shampoo and conditioner because "mine is for my green hair" and she said "okay" i gave her a towel, left, and she took a shower. when she came out i heard her gasp and scream and i asked her if she was okay. she started screaming that her hair was green and sure enough her blonde hair had green splotches all throughout. i asked her why she used my shampoo and conditioner when i told her it was for my green hair and she said she thought i meant it was a good, special shampoo and i just wanted to keep it for myself and that i should have specifically told her it had green dye in it. for context: the bottles are pink and opaque but the caps are clear and are now stained green. the liquid inside is also green from the dye. i told her i thought it was obvious what i meant, but if she didn't fully understand me, she should've just respected my things enough to not to use them simply because i told her. she did not like that. now she won't talk to me and is telling all our other friends i’m an asshole for not telling her about the dye. maybe i could have been more specific but idk i don't think i’m the asshole here. I know that everyone says this but man i did not expect my previous post to blow up so much. some people have been asking for an update, i’m sorry it took so long but i honestly forgot all about it until i saw a tiktok of some people on a podcast covering my story lol before i get into the update i'd like to clear a few things up. firstly, yes, i am a guy and yes, i have a husband. it's this new thing called "gay" if you haven't heard of it i suggest looking it up on google. secondly, a couple people were accusing me of this story being fake because i put hair dye in my shampoo AND conditioner when apparently you're only supposed to put it in your conditioner as putting hair dye in your shampoo doesn't do anything to maintain the color. i assure you this story is true, i’m just a fucking idiot who likes to waste hair dye apparently. i posted pictures of my mohawk and conditioner bottle to my profile, i hope that's sufficient evidence for you reddit skeptics. onto the update. exactly ONE of the commenters hit the nail right on the head with their prediction. a few days after the incident my friend texted me saying she was sorry for blowing up on me and that it was entirely her fault she messed up her hair and she just took it out on me because she was upset in the moment. she said i was right, she should have respected my things, and now we're cool. i know that must be really disappointing to you all, i got a lot of really harsh comments saying that she was a terrible friend and a terrible person and she must have mental disabilities and that she's too stupid to be allowed to live. you guys a fucking nuts lmao. i've been wronged in much worse ways, stealing a little shampoo is not the end of the world for me. a lot of you were curious as to how she didn't realize the shampoo and conditioner was green and i was too so i asked her. she said she did notice it was green but thought it was like that purple shampoo that doesn't actually turn your hair purple, it just makes it a nice blonde. this was her first time being blonde so i guess a green tinted shampoo was not beyond her imagination. the bottles also say something about color protection on them so i guess that makes sense. as for her hair, she tried using color remover to get the green out and that kinda worked but some spots were still a little minty green so now her hair is this lovely royal blue color which i, personally, think looks much better on her. thank you all for listening to my story and i implore some of you to be a little more forgiving in the future, stealing a little shampoo from your friends shower does not make you satan.   COMMENTS MadQueenMoxxie Really happy to see this update. Though I'll admit that when I read your original post, my mind immediately went to the Overtone products, which I have used in the past when I had colored hair. Those say right on the packaging the color they deposit in your hair, so I was sitting there wondering if she hadn't read the package when she grabbed it. I am a natural blonde guy. For most of my life I have had short hair but a few years ago i switched to a textured messy fringe (still short at sides and back - skin fade) and I let my facial hair grow in more. I like this look but my hair and facial hair start to get a bit of a reddish tinge when longer. Ive been looking into applying purple shampoo (just once a week) as this can help reduce this tinge. Just going to preface this with this won’t work for everyone’s hair, my hair is around a level 6 medium brown which took to bleach well. The bleach I used was Wella Blondor with 6% peroxide. I’d sometimes use 3% if I needed to bleach a second time which was rarely. I would leave the bleach on for around an hour, this worked for me but it’s longer than the recommended time for use. When I did need to bleach a second time I would try to wait a few days before doing so. The only toner I ever used was a direct dye, I think this is key to how I maintained healthy looking hair while lightening it to white, it’s unnecessary to use an oxidative dye toner when your hair is this lightened if white or silver hair is the goal. My favourite was Steel Silver by Schwarzkopf that I diluted in conditioner. 1 part dye to 4 parts conditioner to get a white toner. I also liked Purple Rage by Adore, I would literally a drop of it in half a cup of conditioner to make a more silvery white. If you want this colour you have to commit to bleaching the re-growth every 4-6 weeks, any longer and you risk banding. I would only ever work on a quarter of my hair at a time, sometimes half. I sectioned my hair into 4 sections, covered my ends in coconut oil and braided them to keep them out of the way while I was lightening whichever section. Once the regrowth was lightened I’d carefully rinse out the bleach, lightly shampoo it and apply a deep conditioner, braid the finished section and work in the next. This would take all day! But it was worth it for the hair colour. Then once I had fully lightened my regrowth I would apply my direct dye toner all over and leave it in as long as possible. Sometimes over night as it’s only conditioner mixed with pigment that stains your hair. I washed it once a week and used purple shampoo on the second wash every time. The night before washing I covered my hair in coconut oil. There’s a lot of debate as to whether this does anything but I believe it did help with condition. I also would mix some silver dye into a tub of conditioner and use that when needed. I would then apply a lot of water-based leave in conditioner (water or aqua within the first few ingredients in the list) from the mids to the ends, working whatever was left on my hands into the roots. Then I would use a small amount of oil on the ends first, working up to the mid lengths. I pretty much always blow dried it straight with a paddle brush and sometimes finished off with a round brush to get that slight curl. Always use heat protectant. It’s hard work to have white bleached hair! I would brush it very gently starting from the ends working up. Never brush it wet! Hair is in its weakest state when wet. Also I would trim my hair often, at least once every 3 months, sometimes less. If you’ve got this far, thanks for reading! I thought to do this post as I’ve seen a lot of posts in the past asking about getting bleach blonde hair and I see a lot of comments saying it will destroy your hair. It won’t if you do it correctly. Now bear in mind my hair was still damaged, no matter what, any processing will damage your hair. In my case it severely relaxed my curl pattern. I added two photos at the end of my natural hair now so you can see what I would bleach it from. Full disclosure, the 5th and 6th photos are filtered. The rest are not.
