How can I turn basic hostel room into a cozy + aesthetic space (inspo pics added)
Heyy guyss, So I'll be staying in this hostel room for the next 4–5 years, and I really want to transform my side into a cozy, aesthetic + functional space. This is a shared room (2 people), and I have attached pictures of the current setup. What I want: Cozy warm lighting (yellow tones) Option for RGB/LED mood lighting Clean and aesthetic study desk setup Organized space Constraints: No drilling allowed Limited budget (trying to stay reasonable) Small space Needs to be practical for daily studying Things I’m considering: LED strip lights (wave pattern on wall) Pegboard for organization Stick-on floating shelves Desk organizers + storage boxes Chair mat / small rug Ergonomic chair Plants + minimal decor What should I do with the green wall behind my desk? Pegboard vs floating shelves, which is more useful long term? Best lighting setup for both studying and aesthetics? Any must-have items that made a big difference in setup? How do I avoid making the room look cluttered? Would really appreciate any ideas, suggestions, or even small improvements. Thanks in advance 🫶🏻. submitted by /u/SourTiramisu00 to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

The collapse of star trek.
Btw if anyone can forward this to Paramount that would be great. 🖖 If you dont bother to read, then why bother to comment? Role up your sleeves, this is a long one. People are out of their minds if they think these modern "audience-first" writers have ever actually watched classic Star Trek let alone even checked the memory alpha library. You are being paid to make Star Trek, not your bloody useless "I'm special" vision that nobody wants or cares about. Stick to the Star Trek formula and stick your vision up your backside. Nobody hired you to play auteur with someone else's legacy. We want real exploration is that so hard to understand? Atleast strange new worlds tries. Picard, Janeway, James, Sisko, Pike they were / are amazing captains leading bold adventures into the unknown. The older series, and all the movies are great. Pray tell. How are the animated shows nailing it. Lower Decks and Prodigy deliver fun, true-to-form Trek that fans actually love while the live-action stuff keeps serving up slop that looks half written by ai? For goodness sake even Orville does it better. Want to save the franchise then give Seth McFarlan a call. He might give you some ideas. Since he isn't out of touch with his audience Alex. Yet when we call it out, Jonathan Frakes has the audacity to tell us off like we're the problem. Self appointed "artists" should be able to take criticism and listen to their audience Jonathan. Tell me: Is this mythical "modern audience" even in the room with us right now? They've never shown up in big numbers for any of the other shows that got ruined. These knuckleheads cater to an imaginary crowd that barely exists, just to piss off the core fans, tank the ratings, and pretend they're visionaries patting themselves on the back, all while acting clueless about what actual audiences want. Take that Klingon in Starfleet Academy. That skirt uniform is only meant for specific formal occasions, it's not designed for a Klingon who just loves wearing skirts because he's gay. I'm a gay man myself, so why can't we have a hot, bulky, butch Klingon hunk who's a total warrior, a proud and traditional Klingon through and through... and they mention just once in the background that he just happens to be gay, in passing, then never bring it up again? That would fit the species, feel authentic, honor Klingon culture, and respect the character without hijacking the entire plot. No let's make every gay person a fragile flower, feminine and meek. Is that really how you see us? The Orville showed a Moclan family story without obsessing over them being gay every five minutes. It went: "They're gay. They're parents, they have family issues like the rest of us, being gay wasnt their only characteristic, they were well developed. Cool, now thats an actual plot." Natural representation, no constant reminders, lectures, etc. That's how you do it right. Instead, we get vapid writers who dont bother to do research and are only obsessed with making entire episodes revolve around someone's gayness and representation, rather than the exploration, discovery, and big ideas Star Trek is supposed to be about. Discovery, adventure, exploratiom, complex moral dilemmas, some emotional contexts (e.g. not crying minute in every episode), complex multidimensional character growth and fun. Thats what's Star Trek has always been about. I suppose that atleast strange new worlds follows a better mix of old and new styles and format. And don't get me started on how Michael Burnham was literally raised by Vulcans, adopted by Sarek and Amanda, trained in their logic and emotional suppression, yet she cries in (or damn near) every episode. The irony is thick. Meanwhile, there are multiple episodes heavily focused on gay characters and relationships, Stamets and Culber's romance, Adira and Gray's story, greatly exagerated identities and story, with non-binary coming-out moments, queer found-family arcs, that take center stage over actual sci-fi exploration. I mean do it once, show a genuine gay/straight kiss now and then but the way they have done it, you cant be serious. Why dont you go take your politics and ideology to Saudi Arabia, Iran and Palestine, were it will actually have an impact, you hypocrites. Oh but you wouldn’t dare would you, how convenient, the audacity to preach (to an already understanding and fatigued audience) yet you dont put your money where your mouth is where it matters. We like scifi, we get identity, you dont have to lecture us or make a season about it. Neither do we want your fake poorly written tokenism. Imagine, all this in a future where nobody bloody cares if you're gay, bi, or identify as a teaspoon, why are we getting sermon after sermon on (human contextual) identity/discrimination when we signed up for starships, strange new worlds, and bold ideas? And it's not just the gay Klingons and Discovery's endless queer storylines, fans dislike a ton more about this modern slop. The writing is lazy and unprofessional, with crews acting like angsty teens instead of competent officers. Characters are flat, unlikable, or walking stereotypes. The tone is all over the place, trying to be YA teen drama one minute, then forcing heavy moral lectures the next. And oh, the stupid Mexico filter in Starfleet Academy, everything should be bright and colorful to capture that optimistic, aspirational Federation vibe, instead, it's washed out in this orange/yellow desaturated grading that makes the whole thing look dull, cheap, and like a bad soap opera set in a desert instead of the stars. Don't you know that Apple laptops used during production have a P3 wide color gamut, and you can hire people who know how to use all of it properly? Yet they still choose to slap on this ugly, over-warm filter that kills the vibrancy Trek is famous for. The interior of every ship is scifi, but uninviting and dark as shit. Lord help the person who drops something small in an emergency. Where are the greys and or biege colour's you can use for the bridge like in Orville or Prodigy. Hey let's also add as much lense flare as possible, why not. The whole storyline where Klingons are nearly wiped out, disconnected from the Empire, and one of the last remaining ones turns out to be the "gayest" of them all, wearing makeup, a skirt, and carrying a purse? No fan ever asked for that. It's cognitive dissonance at its worst. They could have done that with a human character, or any other race it might suit better. But disrespecting Klingons by forcing them to conform to human standards because of forced diversity like that is ridiculous, Klingons don't bend to our ways. There were better aliens races to use or humans. A protective bubble surrounding the entire Federation? Karen, please. This is a disgrace created by people determined to push their own personal dei vision and who have no creative ability or accountability to the franchise whatsoever. Honestly people try to murder a franchise and purposes do so to upset fans, should be put on trial. Nobody cares about your vision. You can shove it where the sun doesnt shine. You arent special and stick to the actual Star Trek formula. We used to explore strange new worlds and bold new ideas in every episode. We don't need to explore how gay a character is every few episodes or focus only on 1 characters emotional instability, that's a bloody disgrace to prioritize over everything else. No wonder they pay writers so little when this is the slop they produce... and yet some people still defend it. Imagine that. I mean wtf was the section 31 nonsense. How can you have Michelle Yeoh onboard and they still completely stuff up every single spect of the movie. How can you have assigned dei writers and a director who literally couldn't tell you about star trek if they tried. Do you like wasting milllions and opportunities to make more money? Honestly, take them and the decision makers and make sure that they are blacklisted from ever touching any visual arts or franchises again. You obsess over diversity in skin color and sexual preference in a future where none of that should matter anymore, but you completely ignore diversity in stories, alien cultures, and fresh ideas. My message to the writers and producers? - YOU ARE LIMIITED. (mentally, creatively, ideologically, socially, contextually, etc you name it and and most of you dont even bother to really try) The shame. I mean, who bloody knew that in the future there is no laser eye surgery or Ozempic equivalents that they can do? Did they loose their braincells and that technology during the burn as well? They literally go out of their way to get the ugliest obese, sometimes loud woman, that they can find. E.g. head of Earth defence, same for the representatives of Trill. Trill have super blue eyes and why are they all black now instead (cant we for once have a species that follows a certain pre established aesthetic that you wont ruin). Saw some special Betazeds too, etc. Talk about taking the shit. On top of that for almost every real position of power there is a woman and she's is usually condescending. Ah and now everyone is a mix of 4 species for some reason and a male only species, magically has females. Amazing. So science can make a new gender but you can't cure cellulite, .... and fix the short military buz cut every butch woman appears to have. Why not boldly explore a fresh planet, craft an exciting new story and species with stunning Black actors and a unique aesthetic? The Trill were perfect as they were, why force unnatural changes (tokenism) or integrations into every existing element? Same goes for the Klingons, why change them, you could have used that (cool) look to make a new species. It breaks the emersion and you (with your two braincells) know this. Atleast strange new worlds is ok. These people are mental cases, who blatantly lie about their slops popularity while also patronizing people for not watching garbage, when their "modern audience" fails to show up, again. I could come up with 20 brand-new, never-before-seen episode ideas off the top of my head. Yet these writers seem only capable of rehashing the same old stories from the past, making slight tweaks, or churning out multiple episodes about someone's sexuality in a utopia where nobody cares. This isn't just Star Trek, it's ruining most modern shows. It's an utter disgrace. Did all the producers and writers get dumber after COVID or something? Grow up. Seriously, want to make change, then go to Arabia/China, I am sure your message will go far and fix a lot of problems they have. Go and do some real good where its needed. Not this fake, half assed virtue signaling. Is it not funny how the Orville, Lower decks, Prodogy does start trek better then the current live action tv shows? Star Trek isn't just a show or a franchise to me, it's something far deaper and more personal. It taught me about life better than school ever did. It showed me how complex people truly are, how relationships work (and sometimes don't), and layers of lessons about empathy, ethics, leadership, and what it means to be human. Honestly, the best teacher in all of it was probably Jean-Luc Picard. How could he not be? The writing was pure art, thoughtful, principled, and full of quiet wisdom that stuck with me. They did the emotional / internal external conflict aspect and moral dilemmas way better back then. Star Trek was also what I used to watch with my mother when she was... . It united my family, we'd sit together, stop everything, and discuss episodes, characters, the moral dilemmas, the hopeful future it painted. Star Trek was there when I was sick with the flu, stuck in bed, needing comfort or escape. It was a constant companion through good days and bad, it created memories I still hold onto. Btw, I am young, gay and coloured and grew up in an arab country when I was younger and I am allowed to complain and express my opinion however I see fit. And you know what, people keeping quiet is why they think they can keep getting away with this rubbish in the first place. submitted by /u/Artistic_Cloud_9272 to r/trektalk [link] [comments]

Home theater aesthetic critique. What would you change in this room?
EDIT: Thank you everyone for your feedback. I have put together a post outlining my remodel goals here https://www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/1rpub4l/home_theater_aesthetic_critique_the_plan/ I’m looking for feedback on the design and aesthetics of my home theater. I’m very happy with how it sounds, but I feel like the room could look better and I’m struggling to decide what direction to take. I think I may have gone a bit overboard with the wood accents, and the room now feels a little busy. The only things that need to stay are the couch and the speaker layout. I can’t move the subs because of the limited walking space, but otherwise I’m open to just about anything. I’m not really looking to change equipment but I would happily hear feedback. I’m open to suggestions such as new trim, different speaker stands, a new entertainment center, changes to panel colors or sizes, lighting ideas, or anything else you think might improve the room. Some details about the room: Display • 65" TCL QM8 Audio • Onkyo TX-NR6050 • Ascend CBM-170 SE (LCR) • Pyle Atmos speakers • Dual Ultimax 12 DIY subs powered by a Behringer NX3000D • Jamo 809 surrounds Room • 11 × 11 × 7 ft treated room • DIY acoustic panels (one 4×3 ft and two 4×6 ft) • Bass traps in every corner submitted by /u/chom1081 to r/hometheater [link] [comments]

Is my living room idea cohesive?
The title basically says it all. I just moved into my first solo space, and I'm excited at all the furnishing possibilities! I have attached a collage (picture #1) of my current idea for my living space. I have already ordered the couch. I keep going back an forth on what type of rug and coffee table to get (I think I'm leaning toward a mid-century modern aesthetic). I would like feedback on my idea and would also appreciate advice/alternative suggestions. My living room is 10x10, light brown hardwood floors (picture #2), and white walls.

Designing my new room based on the Hellaverse (HH & HB) - Focusing on an Alastor aesthetic! 🎙️🔥
Hi Pentegram City! I'm finally moving into my new room and I want to dedicate the entire space to the Vivziepop Hellaverse universe (Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss). While I love the overall vibe of both shows, Alastor is my absolute favorite, so I want his aesthetic to lead the design. I’m planning to get a double bed and I need some creative advice on: >Color Palette: I want to mix the iconic Hellaverse colorsof the show and lila a Alastor’s another side theme with neon pink, neon green, and neon purple accents for the night. > * Wall Decor: I’m thinking about using glow-in-the-dark or UV paints for Alastor’s voodoo symbols or radio waves that pop up at night. > * Furniture: Any tips on blending Helluva Boss's chaotic energy with Alastor’s 1920s Art Deco style? > If you have any DIY ideas, store recommendations, or lighting tips (neon/LED) to make the room feel like it's straight out of Pentagram AND PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A SMALL COLUMN IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF MY ROOM. City or Pride Ring, please let me know! Feel free to write and request more photos. > Thanks for the help! 🍎🦌 submitted by /u/cansuslu to r/hazbin [link] [comments]

Frozen Pipes Lead to Hidden Surprise
1925 Tudor revival insulated the attic two years ago with baffles and exterior fascia ventilation. Unfortunately, the contractor ventilated this space from the outside but never located it from the inside to insulate. Long forgotten. Welp, the bathroom sink didn’t turn on one night when it was below 0F so I started investigating further. Turns out the tiny panel in the closet opens to a space the same size as the actual closet. Yes, the light in pics 2/3 is daylight through cor-a-vent. Don’t worry, the contractor is coming back to make it right. But it got me thinking. All the closets are so tiny in this house. Dose anyone have ideas on how I can expand the closet into this space aesthetically? The extra space only has subfloor and I plan to insulate to prevent further freezing. Anyone expanded a small room and kept the original flooring? submitted by /u/One_Measurement1517 to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

Florida basement with a pool — genius, disaster, or goldmine? Need advice before selling
Hey all, I could use some input from people who’ve been through unusual renovation decisions. We’re prepping our home for sale, and this one’s a wildcard: we have a full-size pool in our basement. Yep, you read that right , a Florida house with an indoor basement pool. 😳 It’s a cool space, but it’s been unused for years. The room is enclosed with French doors, has recessed lighting, tile/concrete flooring, and a small adjoining sitting area. Structurally it’s fine and it has its own AC unit, just outdated and honestly confusing for potential buyers. We’re trying to figure out how to make it most appealing when we list — without dumping money into something that won’t pay off. Here are the options we’re considering: - Refinish it as a functional indoor pool/spa area. We would also install proper dehumidifier system so you could heat it. (Costly, but could wow buyers.) Convert it into a rec room / gym / home theater, keeping the pool shape covered but intact. (It was like this when we bought it. The owner had it covered with wood decking and used it as a gym) Fill it in and turn it into finished living space — maybe a game room, studio, or bar area. What we’re stuck on is what buyers actually want. Do you think the novelty adds value, or would most see it as a liability? If you’ve sold or remodeled a home with a unique feature like this — or are a Realtor, appraiser, or flipper — what would you recommend? Photos attached so you can see what we’re working with. (Located on the Space Coast of Florida, if that helps with resale perspective.) Where should I post this for the best feedback? I was thinking: - r/HomeImprovement - r/RealEstate - r/Flipping - r/InteriorDesign (for aesthetic/function ideas) - r/WhatIsThisThing (for the laughs and curiosity factor) Would love honest takes — creative ideas, practical advice, or brutal reality checks all welcome. submitted by /u/JessMcPlll to r/Home [link] [comments]

first apartment by myself!! 22F
a year ago, i was moving out of my ex’s and I apartment, back in with my mom. today, i am sitting and relaxing on my cozy couch in my first apartment by myself at 22 years old. my first stable home, FINALLY, after moving almost every single year since I was 7. i could not be happier. i moved-in in May this year so i’m definitely not done decorating it and doing stuff to it but i am so pleased with what i’ve done so far. i’m just undeceive about what I want to put up but have a lot of ideas. i’m also not sure what this aesthetic is called so please let me know what you think it is! it’s in a such a good, quiet neighborhood, my neighbors are SO nice and it’s so peaceful here. i got my first ever garage! i’ve always wanted one and the price isn’t bad either!!! i got so lucky. 90% of my things in my apartment are from facebook market place, thrift stores, discount stores, from my mom, or gifted. i love second-hand! cheap, sturdy, and unique. (i know my living room curtain rod is long asf, got it from facebook marketplace, measurements were way off, i dont even wanna talk about it LOL) i can not stress enough how much i freaking LOVE my apartment. i am in love. submitted by /u/lostdelilah to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

Ideas on how to make my room more warm/ambient/cozy ✨
Just moved in, so it’s feeling very plain! The aesthetic I mostly like is earthy colours, like reds/oranges/yellows/browns with warm yellow lighting. I definitely need new bed sheets. Colours ideas for doona/pillows and sheets? I’m also thinking of putting an arm chair in the left corner under the window, for reading/throwing clothes on. Any colours suggestions for that? Also need to put something in the right corner, maybe a tall plant? There’s plenty more I could add to this room, and I’m sure you guys have plenty of good ideas, so I’m open to anything! Trying to achieve a gamer room with pink aesthetics
Trying to achieve a gamer room with pink aesthetics Might be a long post but I really need to start cleaning and decorate my room as I like, just need some ideas on how to get the best of my space. Hello there, Me (F-26) still live with my parents in this economy of course and I can’t rent anywhere else. So I present to you, my room, in this angle where I’m standing in the exit door to the stairs. As you can see, yes there’s a big mess in my room because I like to collect lots of things and got hobbies but also might have a bit of depression and laziness tbh. This year I want to re-decor my room and a gamer room because it got into me I can maybe try streaming and start a channel but before that I need to make space for that. I actually already started to move things, this wasn’t how it looked like and it saddens me that I never took a picture of my room before but let’s use our imagination and let me tell you in the best way I can. The bed was more in the middle rather than just in the corner and the table and in the right corner. I have two desks, one for a school PC (pink) and one for my paintings and hobbies (white). The white desk was on the left of the bed. The pink is still in the same place but the black bookcase was right besides instead of the white desk that I just moved. Before when you entered my room, there was a mini white sofa, a pink rug and a mini coffee table in the middle right in front of the mounted TV and pink desk, where the black bookcase is now. I felt the sofa was taking to much space because it was really close to the closet and my dog was peeing in the rug too much, even tho I really liked that set up, it felt comfortable. As you can see in picture #5 there’s a door leading to family closet, yes for some reason my mother thought it would be great to build a closet for everyone right beside my room and put the entrance inside my room. So every now and then people just get inside to the family closet and leave. There’s also the entrance to my shared bathroom with my brother. I only have one window, a 3 door closet for myself (even tho I know I have to much clothes) and a mounted Tv and one air conditioner. I wouldn’t want to put anything under the air because sometimes when it heavily rains a bit water gets inside and leaks in the wall, just sometimes. Last pictures are my inspo in what I’m trying to accomplish, I would like ideas in how to make the best of the space a where to put a new desk for a gaming pc and streaming set up, what things I should get rid off or just move them. The idea that I have it’s to get a wide desk, get rid off my two separate desks and put the PC in the middle. But for everything else I’m just looking at Pinterest for ideas on how to accommodate all my things to look as neatly and aesthetically as possible. Hope you understand what I was trying to say, sorry if anything is written badly as English is my second language. Any ideas, suggestions and criticism are welcome. Thank you for reading. submitted by /u/poohrrito to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

Wife wants gift ideas, but it needs to be tweed aesthetic or similar
I realize this may be a weird one, but let the parameters be what they are: Wonderful wife wants to buy me an amp, but she likes the aesthetics of tube and tweed. It'll be in the living room, so she wants it to look a certain way. (It's a gift, so I won't complain.) She sometimes works from home, so I need something that can get a good tone from without being too loud. I'm playing mostly jazz and early 60's rock. I'd need a good reverb and prefer a dirty channel or a way to get decent warm distortion at a lower volume. My Marshall and DOD combo amps are fine, but they don't match the living room. submitted by /u/Spin737 to r/GuitarAmps [link] [comments]

AITA for undermining my SIL's parenting and making her daughter "hate" her?
I (F38) have two daughters (F13, F8) with my husband Max (M40). Max's sister Rose (F30) has a 11 year old daughter, Anna. Rose never told us who Anna's dad is, and he is not in the picture. Max's mom helped Rose with childcare till she graduated college. Unfortunately, she (Max's mom died in 2020 due to Covid). Rose had to leave city for a month for her work. She asked if we could take in Anna and we agreed. In our house, my kids are responsible for washing their own dishes or putting them in dishwasher, putting clothes in laundry and cleaning up their own messes. I don't assign any chores or have them help out more cause I believe they should use that time for studying or any other activities they parttake in. But they also don't have phones and have to use laptop in common areas. So they are not goofing off. They both read a lot which I love, as a book worm myself. They don't have bedtimes or rule to keep their rooms perfectly clean. I was raised in a house where both these existed and I hated them. Little messiness, while ruining aesthetic, won't kill me. I do teach them all lifeskills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, shoping etc. Even my 8 year old knows this. I just do this during vacations. I don't like taking time away during school year. They are expected to do well in school and get into activities which they do. This was surprising to Anna when she came to live with us. Rose had strict rules about bedtime, room cleanliness, and asked Anna to help with all chores. My bookworm school oriented kids made Anna want to study more. She asked if I could help her study like I helped my kids. I said yes and she performed really well in school that month. Her As went up on our fridge with her cousins and we were all happy for her. But when Rose came back last month and took Anna home, her grades started dropping again. Anna blamed Rose for making her work so hard and said "I hate you. I wish (me) was my mom". Rose called and blamed me for putting ideas into her daughter's head. That she doesn't have a partner and can't maintain a perfect house like me. She said I was an AH for undermining her parenting and making her daughter "hate" her. AITA? submitted by /u/Educational_Ant212 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Idea: Your room at the Inn
I think one of the main things that veteran players like (outside of new cards and fresh metas) is the idea of different aesthetic customization for themselves. Currently we have this in the form of cardbacks, but there have always been threads asking for things like custom mana crystals, board trays, etc. Just brainstorming (since I don't have the skillz to put together a mock-up), but how cool would it be if you had a room at the Inn that the game takes place in, which could be customizable. It wouldn't have to be anything particularly fancy, just a static screen with a few things to look at and click on. Blizz could add to ranked/arena rewards with custom items for your room. You could click a button to "visit" the room of anyone on your friends list, and see their stuff. Some ideas to add to this: When viewing a Friend's room, there could be a card stack you could click on to view your friends' current decks - it would pull up the deck selection page like normal, and you could view the cards in each of their current decks. There's all sorts of opportunities for little things that could be added to the room - just general aesthetic items and chachkies. If a replay system is ever invented, you could save one replay to some magical item that stays in your room, and friends who visit you could click on it to view that matchup. There could be card stands that you set out to display your favorite few cards. There could be an achievement plaque that would show you (and your friends, if they visit) some of things you've accomplished - like, right now it would just be total wins with every class, total wins and highest arena key, but if they ever implement a proper achievement system more could be added. And more things like that. Obviously this isn't something that addresses gameplay issues or balancing problems, it's just something for the more fun side of hearthstone, especially for collectors like me who love this sort of thing. What would your thoughts be on something like this? submitted by /u/ohenry78 to r/hearthstone [link] [comments]
