Rustoleum rebar epoxy spray paint for outdoor projects other than rebar?
I’m looking at a good deal for some Rustoleum rebar epoxy spray paint, and unlike their other heavy duty type paints: professional, farm equipment, etc., it’s the color green I want, in a rattle can. So far, the only reviews I can find for it, other than for rebar, have been two on Amazon, and both reviewers had just recently applied the paint, so their painted pieces had no long term exposure to the weather. Can anyone advise me about whether epoxy paint would be appropriate and hold up for years? I am spray painting an aluminum outdoor table. I bought it new, and it had a rough texture to begin with. I was going to do a coat of Rust-Oleum Painters Touch 2X Ultra Cover primer in red, then my red rustoleum paint, then the same brand clear coat. I bought a shitload of camo spray paint to compare colors.
I couldn’t use ALL of them on the one handguard but I’ve used them on my magazines and rifles. The handguard colors are: Rustoleum Flat Sand, Rustoleum Flat Khaki, Majic Earth Brown, Rustoleum Flat Earth Brown, Rustoleum Flat Army Green, Krylon Olive, Rustoleum Flat Deep Forest Green, Majic Olive Drab Green. I was pretty unhappy with trying to find a simple comparison of what the fuck the different brand camo colors look like online so I decided to make this with an extra handguard I had. Hopefully it helps at least one person or I wasted an hour and sprayed my hand green for nothing. The two tan-ish colors (khaki and sand) look very similar on camera, in person the khaki is more dull. The Krylon Olive and Rustoleum Deep Forest are very similar, the Krylon being more greenish, Rustoleum almost having a grey-green. submitted by /u/isaidjoemantegna to r/ar15 [link] [comments]

Will regular rustoleum paint last on an engine? It’s supposedly rated for 200F, engines run about 250F when you beat on them.
I prepped the block nicely, initially took it to a machine shop, they didn’t really leave it bare cast iron like I wanted, they put it on the tiny metal ball machine for a lot less time then they should’ve had. Then they painted the block with some crappy cast iron color spray paint. I stripped all that off and sand blasted the block until there was zero corrosion left. Then I used rustoleum primer and the red paint. I painted the freeze plugs because the shop replaced them with some cheap with no zinc or similar style coating. Just bare metal. On a drop of water they were instantly rusting. Lesson for the future, supply my own freeze plugs. Last pictures is a test spot I did on another car, drove around hard and no problems. The paint didn’t burn off instantly or anything. submitted by /u/Potential_Tomato2499 to r/mechanic [link] [comments]

Am I expecting too much from spray paint, or did I not let it dry enough?
I recently sanded and resprayed an inexpensive nightstand that I bought on Amazon a while ago. The top was made from cheap particleboard with a thin white veneer that would not stand up to water. So I purchased some rustoleum “appliance epoxy enamel“ in a spray can. Sanded the high spots off the top of my nightstand where the veneer and particleboard had water damage, and roughed up the rest, and sprayed on 4 coats about 25 minutes apart, per instructions. Let it dry in the garage overnight, then it spent a couple days in the sun outdoors before bringing it inside. When I placed a hot cup on it, I noticed an imprint in the finish. I’m wondering if I’m just expecting too much from this kind of finish, or if it maybe hasn’t dried enough, or what. I can still dent it with a fingernail and it’s been 5 days since I sprayed it. Do I need to apply a coat of lacquer or something to get a nice hard finish? Any other recommendations, in terms of prep, finish, or otherwise? submitted by /u/stupidbullsht to r/DIY [link] [comments]

I got tired of looking at my ugly faux-stainless refrigerator- and project review
So, I’m trying to make my house into the dollhouse pink wonderland of my dreams without spending gobs of cash. I did sink a little money into my kitchen to make it more functional and get the pink floors of my dreams. But I was left with the awful fridge the place came with. It wasn’t even real stainless steel, just painted a metallic gray with black trim. That was definitely not the vibe. Would I like an actual pink fridge from Big Chill or Smeg or whatever? You betcha! Do I have several thousands of dollars to buy it? Yeah, no. I saw lots of people on Pinterest covering up their fridges with peel and stick wallpaper so I thought I’d give it a go. This is the mostly finished result of my efforts. Let me know what you think. The materials- one can of pink spray paint. I’m not sure it matters which brand, but make sure that it is good for use on plastic. It should say that on the label. I used Rustoleum brand. The wallpaper is Ismoon Floral Boho Peel and Stick Wallpaper. I used one big roll. I don’t think I can use Amazon links in the posts, but I think if you search for that on amazon it should come up. You’ll also need a plastic scraper thing for smoothing on the wall paper and something to cut the wallpaper with- scissors for cutting pieces off the roll and something more like an exacto knife or razor for trimming along the edges. The process- Make sure to clean your fridge with a good degreaser and then use the spray paint according to instructions on the can to paint the plastic trim. Then, when that is done to your satisfaction and dry, get prepared to curse. This particular brand of peel and stick is the worst I have ever worked with. It’s not really repositionible because it gets super stuck to the surface on first touch. Then, when you pull it off, it stretches out. I ruined a couple pieces that way and there are a couple of places where there are wrinkles and imperfections due to this, mostly in not as obvious places, like the edge/bottom. Despite being super sticky, there are other places where it bubbled up and I had a hard time smoothing those out with my scraper. The results- well, I like it better than the faux stainless. Would I do it again? With a different, more amenable brand of peel and stick wallpaper? Probably. It certainly was way more cheap than buying a new fridge. I paid $6 in spray paint, $23 for the wallpaper and invested in about three hours of torturing myself with peel and stick wallpapered. I may come back in several month to tell you how it held up to use. Is this renter friendly? If you don’t paint the trim pieces like I did, maybe. Depending on the peel and stick brand you use. Some of them come off more easily than others. Others will leave residue or not want to come off at all. I wouldn’t risk your security deposit unless you are certain of the performance of your peel and stick. submitted by /u/GreenNerdieBirdie to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

I spray painted my controllers and I think they turned out pretty well!
Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/alcjeb/spray_painted_controllers_9_months_later/ Joy-Con My Joy-Con Taking these apart took me a while. There are a lot of ribbon cables as you open them up and it's important to be careful with every one of them as well as their connectors to avoid damaging anything. There are a multitude of videos out there that walk you through the entire disassembly and reassembly process but I used this one by JerryRigEverything. It's important to note that there are some major differences between the Right and the Left Joy-Con, due to the NFC touchpoint and the infrared sensor. The left one is easier so I recommend you start with it but be sure to watch a video that walks you through both Joy-Con. The piece between the ZL/ZR trigger and the R/L bumper is part of the battery housing. Be sure to paint this piece as well to ensure you don't have a mismatched strip once you're done. Pro Controller My Pro Controller This controller is SO MUCH easier to take apart than either Joy-Con. Removing two screws will allow you to take off both grips and an additional four screws will let you pop off the back plate. I watched this video by The Curious Consumer to guide me through the process. Other than a single ribbon cable, it's Phillips screws all the way down. There's one part where you need a longer screwdriver and I got lucky that I had a sufficient one in another toolkit because the one I was using wouldn't fit. Despite that hiccup, it was smooth sailing when taking this controller apart. I also replaced the joysticks with these Xbox One Elite ones because I like the silvery metal look with the controller and the grips. The Process Materials A Precision Screwdriver Set + a single, narrow, longer screwdriver I luckily already had. Whichever toolkit you go with you'll need: A 2.0 Tri-wing Screwdriver A J0 Philips Screwdriver A J00 Philips Screwdriver Tweezers 800 Grit Sandpaper Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2X Spray Paint (whichever colors you want) Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2X Flat Matte Clear Nitrile Gloves Steps Take apart the controllers. You need to completely dismantle your controllers so that you're solely painting the faceplates/grips/battery housing. Spray painting without taking it all apart may lead to sticky buttons or damaging internal hardware. Sand the areas you'll be painting. Sandpaper comes in various grits. The higher the grit, the finer the sandpaper and the smoother the sanding will be. Too low of a grit will leave your controller so scratched up that it'll look scratched when completed. The videos I watched and the sources I read suggested using 600 grit sandpaper. I used 800 grit. The sanding took approximately 20 minutes for all the pieces I painted. Wash the plates. Now that you're done sanding, wash each item you sanded with dish soap and water. Don't use a sponge and let dry once you're done (or use a tea towel to dry it well). Paint your controllers. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR SPRAY PAINT CAN!!! I cannot stress this enough. Read through it all. Shake your spray paint can more than you think you need to and shake it between your sprays as well. You want to ensure there are no chunks of paint. This video by Brad Angove helped me figure out how to do it right. Ideally, you'd want to paint in 70°F weather with a relative humidity of 50%. Don't paint on a day that's below 40°F or above 90°F, if you can help it, as your paint won't dry fast enough or will dry too quickly. Don't paint on a day that has a relative humidity of below 40% or above 50%, if you can help it, because the moisture in the air also determines how fast your paint will dry. Also paint in a well-ventilated area (preferably outside) when there's no wind. I painted in a 3-car garage with 2 of the garage doors closed and the last one half-way closed and I probably should've painted in a more ventilated space. It was 85°F outside with a humidity of 40% and I applied 2 coats of the color of my choice, approximately 10 minutes apart. Oh also, start and finish spraying away from the thing you're painting so you don't end up with globs of paint on your controller. Apply clear coat. I waited 45 minutes after applying the color coats before applying 4 coats of the flat matte clear, 10 minutes apart. This top coat will protect the paint from things like the oils on your hands. Once again, read the instructions on the paint can to ensure you're coating at the right intervals and shake vigorously. Let dry for AT LEAST an hour. The longer you let it dry, the better. I let it sit for an hour and a half before bringing it indoors. At this point, the paint is dry to the touch but not fully cured. You'll know it's fully cured once it stops smelling like paint, which could take anywhere from a few days to months on end. It depends on how much paint you used and how long you let it dry between coats. Let it dry for longer than you'd like. I let mine dry for 3 days before putting my controller back together. I should've waited 7. Lessons Learned Patience is key. Letting the paint dry between coats is crucial to getting a fully cured product. You don't want a situation where your lower layers are still wet and unsettled. Additionally, letting it dry for as long as possible before putting it back together will ensure that you won't get any blemishes on your finished product. Spray paint in light coats. If you're interested in spray painting your controllers, you've surely seen others say this as well. It's incredibly important. I thought I was painting in light coats but I'm sure I could've gone lighter and painted 3 or 4 times instead of ensuring every bit is covered with every coat. Painting the grips is tough. I cut a toilet paper dowel in half and put the grips on them to get them to stand upright so I could paint them from all directions. My issue here was that while I was rotating and painting, my coats were too heavy and caused little runs/curtains to appear. Painting in lighter coats would probably have prevented this as well. Use a magnetic screwdriver. This isn't really a "lessons learned", as I did use a magnetic screwdriver but I wanted to draw attention to it. The screws you'll be dealing with are incredibly tiny and it helps to keep from losing them or dropping them into the circuitry if you've got a magnetic screwdriver. Take more pics for karma. I only took this one picture after I was all done with the painting. I should've taken more pictures of the spray painting space and the process for more proof of doing this on my own. Final Thoughts I'm happy with how these controllers turned out. They definitely have faults but that makes them unique and they're mine. If I paint my controllers again in the future, I'll be able to do a much better job for having had this experience. It was intimidating, of course, and it's a significantly pricey piece of hardware but it's not as challenging as you might think. If you're at all interested and have a bit of patience and the right tools, I encourage you to give it a shot. I've also used a program called Joy-Con Toolkit that lets you update your Joy-Con and Pro Controller color values. Be sure to backup the SPI for each of your controllers first but you can adjust your controllers to match your paint job. Here's what mine look like when connected to my Switch. Honestly, I don't think I would've spray painted my controllers if I couldn't have done this. If you have any further questions, I'll do my best to answer them and I hope this post helps someone decide to try their hand at it as well! Edits Alternate Angles I was asked by a few people for pictures of the controllers from different angles so here they are: Joy-Con on the Switch - Front Joy-Con on the Switch - Back Pro Controller Top Left Pro Controller Top Right Pro Controller Back submitted by /u/waffledork to r/NintendoSwitch [link] [comments]
