Did I make the right decision cutting my hair?
I had grown my hair to about 1.08 meters long, reaching mid-thigh. My goal was always to grow it as long as possible, ideally to its maximum length. The problem is that over the last year, the ends progressively deteriorated. They started breaking a lot, and I ended up with very uneven, thin, and “see-through” lengths, as you can see in the photo. I tried to manage and preserve them like this, but the condition kept getting worse. In the end, I was forced to cut about 20 cm because aesthetically it looked really bad and, honestly, it was ruining the overall look of my hair. Now my length is around waist/hip level, just slightly touching the top of my butt. My intention was to reset the ends and continue growing my hair, hopefully even longer than before, but with healthier, fuller, more even ends. For context, here are my hair habits (which I thought were quite careful): I stopped using heat tools (straightener and blow-dryer) about 1.5 years ago, using them only very rarely I mostly wear my hair natural, or in 2–3 loose braids on damp hair after washing I detangle only from bottom to top, strand by strand, using a Tangle Teezer or wide-tooth comb I sleep with a satin bonnet I avoid tight hairstyles; if I tie my hair, I use clips or silk elastics I wash my hair once a week, using professional shampoo (only on the scalp, never rubbing lengths) For lengths, I use a SheaMoisture nourishing mask once a week (butters/oils-based) I alternate conditioners (one protein-based, one anti-frizz) I rinse with cold water, usually upside down I never brush wet hair and dry it with microfiber towels Every 3 days I use leave-in products (Olaplex No.6 and No.7) I apply oil to the ends (Olaplex No.7 or sometimes coconut oil) I used to do pre-shampoo treatments with Olaplex No.3 or coconut oil Despite all this, my ends kept breaking. My hair is naturally dark brown, wavy, frizzy, and I suspect it has medium to high porosity: it dries very fast, reacts strongly to humidity, and feels quite rough. The only chemical process I do is dyeing it black (synthetic dye) about twice a year. Now the confusing part: Even after cutting 20 cm last week to “reset” the damage, I still notice split ends and breakage. I still find broken hair strands on tables, chairs, and my clothes. It’s less than before, but it’s definitely still happening, and I didn’t expect that after the cut. The only explanation I can think of is that the dye might be structurally damaging my hair fiber, because otherwise I can’t understand what’s causing this. My goal is to grow my hair again to my previous length and beyond, but I’m starting to wonder if I might need to completely stop dyeing it and go back to my natural color. That said, I really like black hair, so I’m conflicted. What do you think is going on? Are my habits actually okay, or is there something I should improve? And do you think I’m overestimating the impact of dyeing vs other possible causes? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Educational-Mess5149 to r/longhair [link] [comments]

Decided to try something new and I hate it 😂
all right, so I have not braided my own hair in a while so I thought that I would come up here and show the aftermath. I typically braid my own hair because I am professionally broke. And with me braiding my own hair I’m really not tied to the color or style, so I figured what the heck let me just pick something random and put it in my head. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on the colors specifically from guys, surprisingly. I guess cause it’s blue. But I don’t know. I’m not really feeling this color. It doesn’t really fit with my goth queen aesthetic lol. feel free to roast me or suggest other colors that I could try. I’m about to take this out and do something else. I’m thinking of braiding the sides and just do a mohawk down the middle. But I would love some random color suggestions. I also blend my own hair colors from time to time so. LOAD ME UP WITH SUGGESTIONS! oh, and I didn’t show my scalp because like I said, I braided my own hair, that shit looks rough 😂 submitted by /u/Koowhalee to r/braids [link] [comments]

Hair thinning out… idk what to do!!
Hoping someone can help me. I’m 24 and I’ve always had VERY thick and full hair. About 12 years ago, I donated 13 inches of my hair to locks of love. My hair was so thick that the hair dressers scissors broke and had to use shears, and struggled with my hair still! Two years ago I got my hair highlighted by a stylist who wasn’t my regular. But I heard amazing reviews and thought I’d treat myself. My hair was so thick I was there for 5 hours. Bleach, toner everything went fine. The wash I noticed some chunks of my hair in the sink, didn’t think much until she went to dry my hair and brush it out. There was so many chunks hair on the floor, I figured I’d have a bald spot(thank GOD I didn’t). My hair came out beautiful, and the chunks that fell out grew back in a month. My hair was thick and full until about a year ago. I’ve started to notice my hair slowly thinning and my messy buns becoming smaller. I have ALWAYS loosely braid my hair in separate sections when I go to bed so it doesn’t tangle, and I’ve noticed my braids becoming a LOT smaller and fewer. I rarely wear my hair in ponytails or buns, unless needed/ I’m sweaty. And even if I do, I don’t put it too tight, always a loose low bun/pony. I haven’t changed my diet, taken new medication or changed anything about my routine either. There’s about 3 inches more hair on the left than the right. I miss my fuller hair (never thought I’d say that haha) and want to help it come back. First photo, a year and a half ago. 2nd photo, last week. ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED 🥲 Side notes: I take biotin every 3 days (always have) as I have sensitive skin and it’s helped me not break out as much. I am not iron deficient or deficient in any other vitamins/ whatever they’re called I rotate shampoos(always have). I’ll use store brand dandruff once a week in the summer when my scalp gets dry and once a month in the winter (idk why but girl science tells me this is how it has to be and it WORKS BTW) No hormonal changes lately. No new stress, no new health concerns, nothing new that can affect this. I always use products that are Paraben free EDIT: I POSTED A FULL PHOTO OF THE SECOND PICTURE IN THE COMMENTS!! A lot of people have been saying I look like I lost weight since the first photo. I did not! I’m actually 5 lbs heavier in the second photo than the first. I was working out in the first photo as well, that was actually when I started to weight lift properly. And the second photo was taken 10 minutes after I finished my workout and I am flexing in it. I am the same weight!!!! I did have slightly low iron levels on my last blood panel which was done last year (my primary doctor called it borderline). I see him again next week and he will send me to get my levels checked again. My primary always gets my ferritin levels checked as I was anemic until I was 8 years old. The anemia was not related to an iron deficiency. But due to anemia being in my medical history, doctors always check my levels anyways to be safe. I did not mean hair thinning, I’ve learned it’s called hair fall. I rarely wear my hair in a bun/ pony tail. It’s only in a bun in those photos as in the first I was trying to see the tattoo on my shoulder. And in the second I was trying to take a look at how massive my muscles are in my back (sarcasm) My hair does grow quick! I always tell my stylist to cut whatever is dead/ split/damaged before she starts to do anything with my hair. And then after that I have always been able to cut additional length off so it’s more manageable. submitted by /u/Single-Pick8488 to r/Haircare [link] [comments]

How to moisturize my scalp properly with braids? (boho)
For context: I have 3C-4A hair and I got braids for the first time about a month ago, and i oiled my scalp with Mint oil about 2 weeks before washing it for the first time. After putting in the oil my scalp was itching like crazy, and after some further research, I saw people saying that hydrating with water and then adding oil to seal it doesn't really do anything. What should i be doing to moisturize my scalp and natural hair? $100 usd. was it worth it?
Took very long to get. Tell me if this price was worth it. It was a small shop owned by a mother and young daughter. The daughter charged less for braids 70, and mom 100. I wanted 6 stitch braids. I went with the daughter cause im broke. She washed and steamed my scalp, it felt really nice. Then she started parting everything, good so far. Then she started the first braid. Took it out, restarted, and restarted, and restarted, after the 5th or 6th time restarting that braid, i asked " is everything ok?" She was having trouble, called her mom and i had to wait 25 mins for her mom to come back from home and braid my hair. I was charged 100 even though we agreed on 70 but it was mom price so let me know, was i scammed? They were raly nice people but i feel like a little discount wouldve been nice. I also left around midnight. submitted by /u/WolfRoyalXD to r/braids [link] [comments]

Feeling exhausted by all the upkeep of being a well groomed woman
I love the end result of putting time and effort into my appearance and taking care of myself, but it just feels draining a lot of the time. And this is coming from someone who is quite minimal comparatively! Does anyone have tips for making it more enjoyable and less of a chore? I already do things to make it feel like a little ritual like light a candle, take my time, give myself a little massage while moisturizing, putting on music I enjoy.. it sort of helps, sometimes. Here are the things I am doing on a daily or weekly basis- Daily: Hair: Brush, oil, light styling (braids, buns, wetting hair lightly to encourage waves) Face: skincare AM & PM (toner, vit C, retinal, sunscreen, moisturizer), pluck eyebrows and mustache Makeup: CC cream, brow gel, lip tint, cream blush, mascara Teeth: oil pulling, flossing, brushing, tongue scraping, +doing a round of white strips atm Every other day: Longer shower with washing hair, exfoliating, lotion, body oil Nails: file and apply some cuticle oil 1x per week: Scalp and hair mask, shave legs I would ideally like to add heatless curls or styling my hair with more effort, doing my nails, and dyeing my brows but putting more on the plate seems daunting. It’s not like I’m doing fake tanning, extensions and heavy makeup so I don’t know why it feels like so much! Help! submitted by /u/Free_Seaweed_6097 to r/beauty [link] [comments]

AIO: Stylist calls me a bitch for asking to get my hair touched up
Long story short, my usual hair stylist was out of town. I booked this appointment last minute(the day before) and just asked for some simple, straight back cornrows. No design, pattern, no extensions, nothing. I came WASHED and BLOW DRIED too! On the website it says she charges 120 for cornrows. Now to me, that’s a pretty hefty price, but I was just looking for something quick and was willing to pay that since it was last minute. My original appointment was 3:00. She asked me on the day of what I wanted to be done. All I said was I wanted simple, straight back cornrows. I told her I don’t care how many she does, it’s completely up to her. She said okay and that I could come in at 2pm if I wanted to. I told her the earliest I could come was 2:30(I get off work at 1 and had to go home and wash/dry my hair, hence why I booked for 3) and she obliged. Now, I’ve never had my cornrows unravel the way they are, especially this early into getting them. It’s clear she didn’t actually braid to the scalp all the way to the bottom. What she most likely did was stop braiding at the scalp at some point and turned the rest into a regular braid. My hair is soft and coily so regular braids do not hold unless it’s secured to the scalp all the way down or fastened with a rubber band. We even had a conversation about my hair and she mentioned that too so she was fully aware. The whole interaction with her at the hair salon was nice although she was pretty much talking shit about other stylists the whole time. Mind you, she thanked me for coming in early because she wanted to close early and if I came at 3, she’d be alone in the store when it got dark and didn’t like that. I understand that even if I feel like it’s a mistake she made, if she says I’ll still be charged then I’m not fighting that at all! But to charge me $90 to sit in your chair for no more than 10-15 minutes is a bit wild to me. On top of that, she charged me way more than $90. More than the $120 she quoted me. I even left her a tip on top of that! Am I overreacting? Calling me a bitch over this seems like an overreaction on her end. I know beggars can’t be choosers but I thought even a little bit of professionalism would be there. submitted by /u/PaniniPanorama to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

Does anyone know what this skin condition is?
Idk if this is the correct place to ask for help but I’ve been dealing with this since I was younger and it ruins every braided hairstyle I get. Growing up, I would just have a head full of dandruff but lately it’s just this around my edges. I put oil on it and it’ll go away for a few hours, until it completely dries and start looking like this again. I literally just redid the front of my hair two days ago and here we are today. This also happens inside of my ears and on the sides of my nose. Whenever I pick it or comb it out, my scalp/skin looks kinda pink. Like I’l literally peeling my skin off??😭Any idea what it is or how to treat it? Please help! submitted by /u/Dense-Asparagus5008 to r/Blackskincare [link] [comments]

My parents dislike my hair, is it really that bad or am I ok?
I’ve been natural for 1 year and 6 months now, at the time I decided not to do the big chop and just let my hair grow out naturally and get my relaxed ends cut off in a year. During that time almost every single day was me wearing head wraps and scarves and the occasional braids or wigs if I could afford it. I finally set up with a hairstylist yesterday to get my hair properly cut and while it’s shorter than I expected I do like in how it came out. My parents…not so much…I’ve been getting lots of compliments at work, from my bf, coworkers, friends, and even customers alike. When I said this to moms she responded “well of course they’ll say that, they not gonna tell you the truth”. She said it looks wooly and that it’s ‘unbecoming’ whatever that means… I feel like I’m goin crazy cuz what if it actually does look bad and I don’t know? This is my first time goin thru this and I’m still learning how to handle my hair…and I’m just really self conscious about it now so I’ll ask the internet lol. If yall got any advice on how to fix anything or how to properly style it I’d be very appreciative of any help🙏🏾 I’m so sick of head wraps yall… I just want my scalp to breathe😭 submitted by /u/ryn1322 to r/Naturalhair [link] [comments]

AITA for being ‘disgusted’ because my gf doesn’t wash her hair for weeks?
I understand this is a very sensitive subject and I want to preface by saying I am approaching this as delicately as possible. Any ignorance on my part is not malicious but simply because I don’t know. I (28m) was in a long distance relationship with my gf (25f) for several months before we decided to take the plunge and move in together. She now lives with me. Before she lived with me, we could only visit each other one weekend every month but we called and texted everyday. She moved in with me about 6 weeks ago. For relevant context, I am white and my girlfriend is black. We live a very active lifestyle and we regularly workout, hike, bike, etc. I started to notice that after she would work out and shower, her hair would not be wet and still in braids. I have a sister and I know women don’t always wash their hair everyday so I figured it was that. But then I noticed she still didn’t wash her hair the next week either. Her hair is absolutely beautiful and I love her curls, but whenever I got near her head I could smell that her scalp/hair were dirty and unclean. I personally am very sensitive about smells, especially the smell of a dirty scalp. I have to wash my hair every 1-2 days because I cannot stand the smell of buildup. More time passed and it had now been weeks since my girlfriend washed her hair and while it might be mean to say, I was honestly disgusted. The smell was really bothering me and I brought up the issue to her which caused her to fly off the handle. Granted, I might not have gone about it the best way. I basically asked her point blank when the last time she washed her hair was because it kind of smells bad. She looked at me like I was insane and immediately started calling me racist and ignorant. She informed me black women’s hair is different and doesn’t require frequent washing because it can dry out and damage the follicles. I told her I understand haircare for black women is different, but that doesn’t mean her scalp or hair magically stays clean and doesn’t smell after not washing out the dirt, sweat, oils, and buildup for weeks. This led to her calling me “a dumb fucking racist” and she kept repeating how ignorant and stupid I am. This has really cut me deep because I do not believe I am racist. Ignorant is fair because that is true, I grew up in a predominantly white area and my past girlfriends have all been exclusively white or asian with straight hair texture. I had no exposure and I don’t see why a white guy not knowing about black women haircare is racist. Things with my girlfriend are tense. She has been washing her hair everyday and saying she will blame me for how damaged her hair becomes because I have made her so insecure about the smell. I have apologized profusely but things still aren’t well. I guess I just want an outside perspective. Edit: For clarity, she did not wash her hair for 5 weeks. This past week she has been washing her hair every day. Edit 2: For clarity on the conversation, I did not call her ‘disgusting’ to her face but I felt disgusted by the dirty smell and lack of showering for 5 weeks. I said something along the lines of “Hey when was the last time you washed your hair? To be honest it smells a bit bad babe.” submitted by /u/ManDingoNuts to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Are my braids too tight? Got em done an hour ago. Scalp doesn’t hurt but i still feel tension. Moving head forward feels restricted but everything else is ok.

I got braids for the first time! They were $180 but I got an autumn discount of $20 and I had to pay for the hair but all the hair was on sale! I’m not used to the tightness of my scalp but it’s not as bad as I thought. S/M knotless boho

TIFU by realizing I wasn’t washing my “hair” right for 20+ years
Uh okay. So warning.. this is very much gross. Over the past several weeks I have been feeling these weird skin-like but not fully-attached lumps on my head. I’ve been scratching and picking them off fully (or so I thought) and didn’t give it a second thought. Well, today my boyfriend takes a good look at my scalp in one of those spots that I was scratching because he was curious as to what I was doing. Apparently I was really going at it without noticing. He practically gasped and asked me if I had hit my head, or if it hurt. I was stunned for a moment (it only felt like a little dry skin) and that began my panic induced examination. As it turns out, my entire scalp is covered in ranges of flaky to thick lumps of dandruff. And because I have a lot of hair, it isn’t noticeable on the outside unless you start going through layer by layer… I obsessively begin to scratch and scrape my entire scalp to the point where it’s now in pain. There’s flakes and chunks entangled throughout my hair.. I am freaking out. I start Googling, thinking I must be dying, all my hair is about to fall out, etc. Yeah.. no. Apparently you are supposed to scrub your scalp when you shampoo… I never knew this. Also I immediately put my wet hair in a bun or braid every time I washed it so it didn’t dry for literally 24 hours and caused more dry skin buildup. I really hope that after years (plus scraping for hours today) I haven’t really fucked my scalp up. TL;DR : I haven’t scrubbed my scalp for 20 years because I didn’t know you had to. I have been scraping chunks of dry skin off my scalp for the past few hours. I feel disgusting. EDIT: Firstly I’d like to say thank you to everyone for your advice and kind replies! I also wanted to answer a few of the common questions I saw. 1) “How did you not notice this for so long?” - I don’t think it was this bad my entire life, as I’ve said I’ve only seen flakes sometimes. It got like this sometime recently. I don’t particularly make note of checking my scalp on a periodic basis. Also if you haven’t already noticed by my username, I have ADHD. Out of sight out of mind. I don’t even intend to be gross… but like many others with ADHD we can struggle with habit, routines, etc. 2) “Why did you not just go to a doctor?” - I’m in America and healthcare costs are high. I can’t afford to go see one at this time even with insurance. 3) “Where did you put shampoo then?” - I put it on my head (obviously) and throughout all my hair. I think since my hair is so thick that when lathering the shampoo in, I may not have been really getting it onto my scalp enough. I’ve made note of the shampooing twice to help with that though, so thanks to those who said that! 4) “Did your parents not teach you ‘xyz’?” - Apparently not. Not everyone has good parents. I definitely did not. I’ve had to figure out many things throughout life on my own. Most replies were very positive/helpful though. Thank you! I will be getting a new shampoo as I’ve been using a very cheap brand. Hopefully that helps! submitted by /u/ADHDabsurdity to r/tifu [link] [comments]

Having given a large amount of feedback on player customisation to be told they're not implementing more for Shadowlands has made me feel betrayed by Blizzard.
Prefacing by saying I'm angry at just this whole ordeal. I want to explain by saying that I personally have been working with these very models for the purpose of learning how to implement customisation options and how the best way of going about it would be without exhausting an inordinate amount of developer resources. While I certainly wouldn't expect everything that I've personally touched on to be implemented, I at least expected something. Blizzard have reworked a lot of these systems from the ground up to be able to implement these new options, and now they're going to be completely underutilised. These sort of hair swap customisation options aren't hard to implement. Truly they aren't difficult to implement. I'd say at most it's 3 minutes to properly weight paint and anywhere between 1-5 minutes of tweaking the mesh to fit on the head (so there are no gaps between the scalp) as not all head shapes are the same on models. https://reddit.com/link/lojxsp/video/7os9t7e6rpi61/player Swapping hairstyles is something I'm familiar with. I used to think that body shapes would be difficult but that's also absolutely not the case. The common excuse I've seen and thought would be that blizz would have to make those 3d armour collections reshaped for each body shape, each race, each gender, etc. While that is true for the differing races, body shapes (if implemented correctly) can actually be controlled via scaling the animation bone itself. When this is done, the armour scales with it. In this example I display such with the blood elf female model. https://reddit.com/link/lojxsp/video/bwkprn0gspi61/player but beyond that I began to "fine tune" into body shapes that have been asked for, such as the thicker troll body type https://reddit.com/link/lojxsp/video/7ck3wf3ispi61/player and a more vrykul-shaped kul tiran (what I like to call a vrykul tiran) https://reddit.com/link/lojxsp/video/foufe9vmspi61/player But aside from that, I also focused on a lot more of relatively simpler swaps, such as implementing eyebrow, moustache, beard, sideburn, and jewellery options on blood elves. https://preview.redd.it/tgt83xl3tpi61.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=657e45f10d0a4cb66029d96bd7f76e06d7dd2f57 https://preview.redd.it/kqt3vro4tpi61.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e40c501f43f25bd1b0fd333170479b8751b0712 or swapping out the void tendrils with braids for void elves to give a more high elf feel. https://preview.redd.it/agmugsf7tpi61.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=0bd2bfab8a6dd65ebf8d33f93e074c3fe91fde9d I've expressed my thoughts on what would likely be more difficult to add - mechanical limbs / prosthetics, fully new animations like dances, more class-specific anims - and what would be easier to add - texture swaps, asset (hairstyles / jewellery) swaps, separating out baked in assets (scars / wrinkles / freckles on faces), and ticking on NPC-only textures (dark rangers in particular come to mind). There are even some things such as the Death Knight eye glows that are already controlled a backend "dynamic colour" system. Literally they can change the value to be green, purple, blue, or red, which would seemingly fit each Death Knight spec in the notable undead-death knight themed expansion. https://preview.redd.it/5uye2jghvpi61.png?width=128&format=png&auto=webp&s=0631c22309d805aee1ce0f24a62fa9fc2e493200 https://preview.redd.it/xdrqb4kgvpi61.png?width=540&format=png&auto=webp&s=28da8a2a86ea582d6cb107c8e801320941f71efb But when the quote is literally: We want to make sure that we put the time in, that we're very thoughtful about it, and that we release new customizations when its gonna be really good for the game, really good for the players, and that's still gonna happen in paralel with getting new content out too. That's always our primary goal, making sure that you have new content to play, and we'll do those other things to enhance the game along the way, but it wouldn't make sense to make it when we don't have a good plan for it. When the hell is adding something so simple as eye colours for death knight the "right time" to add it? new customisation doesn't need to be tied to an expansion launch, and it's absolutely unacceptable that Blizzard are simply going to roll with expansion launch releases for potentially at most 3-4 options on main races. This isn't even the beginning for allied races which have mostly been shafted due to being entirely separate from their base race counterparts and therefore have been given even more limited options. I just don't see how there's any excuse for this other than willingly not implementing it and selling the expansion packs to make money. There was the stated fact that customisation would be an ongoing process throughout Shadowlands, and that allied races would be down the line. What about Allied Race customizations? For the initial release of Shadowlands, the focus is on the original races. Character customizations is an ongoing project and they're never completely done. Whenever possible, we’ll keep expanding on [customization],” Cannon said in an interview with Polygon. “We’re really, really happy with what we’ve achieved so far and super positive that the community is so positive about that. Then recently: Any plans for more Customizations? Nothing in the short term but we're always looking for ideas from players, so please continue to submit your ideas for things that you'd like to see. Followed soon after in the Q&A with of course the quote that sparked it all. I feel betrayed by Blizzard, and I feel as though many others have been let down. I only wanted to see the game be better, allowing people to create a diverse range of characters. Other game companies have implemented much more for much less in comparison, whereas Blizzard has literally set their own greed as a priority in this case. I just don't see why, if it was such a success, such a positive response from the playerbase, why not continue it? It is literally against what players want, by Blizzard's own word.
