Don’t lie! Teachers don’t need to buy their own school supplies!
TEACHERS DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN SCHOOL SUPPLIES ! They just need to fill out that google form that limits you to two reams of paper a semester, 5 pencils a week, and one box of tissues a week… and then wait a week to get those supplies. Any extra bonus supplies like colored pencils or poster board for a project need to be submitted at the first of the month and wait 3-4 weeks for approval, purchase, and delivery. 7 weeks if it’s near the beginning or end of the quarter. And if you ask for too many supplies, you will be asked about your spending habits in the school. But no. Teachers don’t need to buy their own supplies. submitted by /u/OneBillionSpaghetti to r/Teachers [link] [comments]

Am I the asshole for spending my life savings ($7200) on an ass job plastic surgery when my daughter "needed" brand new school supplies?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/scene_queen2009 Am I the asshole for spending my life savings ($7200) on an ass job plastic surgery when my daughter "needed" brand new school supplies? TRIGGER WARNING: Cosmetic surgery, bad financial decisions, questionable parenting. Original Post March 28, 2024 33yo here for reference. Last year my long time boyfriend dumped me - we have a seven year old child together - and I began making the circuit on the bar scene. I Had some casual hookups but no one who seemed like marriage material seemed to be too interested and I was also striking out on all the dating apps. After months of this I began to grow disheartened and lose confidence which is when I started to research augmenting my buttocks. I'm not a supermodel or anything but I like to think I'm decently attractive, however my backside has always been the part of my body I am most self conscious about. I had a consultation with a doctor we went over the operation and I decided to have a bbl as well as 1100cc implants placed overinflated to 1150 which is a standard industry practice for those who don't know. The final cost everything Included was to be about $7200, which was all of the funds in my savings, plus dipping into my checking for a few hundred, which isn't a huge deal for me. I had to make some spending adjustments, cancel a few subscriptions, and overall be a lot more financially cautious, but my daughter wouldn't go hungry or without heat. The surgery went off without a hitch, and I received the augmentation. Fast forward about six weeks, and I am still healing but mostly healed. Last week my daughter came home from school with a note from her teacher, saying that her class is collecting school supplies such as markers, gluesticks, tissues, etc. There was a laundry list of supplies of about 20 items. I did the math and the supplies would come out to around $65. The note Said each student was REQUIRED to bring these supplies in which really didn't sit right with me, especially because I bought most of these supplies for my daughter at the start of the year. I understand the concept of community supplies or donating supplies for kids in financially difficult situations , but the requirement just really ticked me the wrong way. I told my daughter that we couldn't afford that this month and I would talk to her teacher about it. I made sure to make it clear that my daughter wouldn't get in trouble for this and that I would handle it with her teacher. And yes spending this extra $65 would place significant financial burden on us for this month's food budget. Fast forward to yesterday and grandma (my mom) come over and is watching with my daughter while I get some chores done. I have fallen a bit behind on chores from resting up from the operation. My mom said she was taking my daughter to the store and I said that was fine. They came back an hour later with two bags full of school supplies and my daughter wearing a band new backpack. I was understandably a bit angry and confused and privately talked to my mom in the other room. For background I always give my mom my debit card when she goes to the store to buy groceries for my house because she is on a tight budget and can only maintain herself. I figured she was going to the store to buy food for my daughter for the rest of the week , which she does often which is why I didn't think anything of it. Turns out my mom saw the note from school and took my daughter out to get the items using my card. I explained to my mom that I told my daughter that we couldn't afford to contribute to the supplies. My mom said that my daughter told her about what I said, but she decided to take her out anyway. She said it was "ridiculous " that I spent so much money on my augmentation and that it wasn't fair to send my daughter to school as the only one without contributing supplies. She also said my daughter's been using the same back pack for over 3 years and it's stained and torn and I should be "ashamed" for not buying her a new one. I was honestly pretty pissed at her accusations and told her that how I spend my savings is none of her damn business. I told her that my daughter had her own perfectly good school supplies, and that a seven year old doesn't need a brand new backpack every year or two, especially because I know she is just going to get it dirty with goldfish dust and dirt at school. Her backpack was fine and just had some normal wear and tear. My mom told me I need to get my priorities straight and that I'm not setting a good example as a mother. I told her that the money is already spent and we are already committed to a tighter budget for the next months, but that my daughter wouldn't want for anything and that our budget is absolutely none of her damn business. I've been thinking about this all day and am getting more flustered and angry the more I think. So am I the ahole or is my mom overreacting and getting involved in something that's not her business? OOP is universally called an asshole. Most of her comments are defensive. OOP repeatedly tells people to kiss her ass. Update April 24, 2024 (27 days later) So it's been a month since I last posted. Thank you all for your replies to my last post. Despite the many toxic commenters and miserable people spewing vile hate, there were some constructive comments, and I want to thank those commenters for that. The feedback as well as some talks with my mother have given me a lot to think about, and I have come to the conclusion that the operation was a selfish mistake, and I regret it. I'm up late at night imagining how my daughter will view this incident once she gets a little older, and the things she will think. My implants will serve as a constant reminder to my daughter of the mistakes I made. They will also be a reminder to myself of my guilt and my mistakes. That is why I have decided to remove my implants. I had spoken to a doctor about the costs and risks associated with a removal procedure once I was sure it was the right decision. It was explained to me that for the removal to be as safe and successful as it can possibly be, the sutures have to completely heal before he can go back in and remove the implants. This will minimize scaring as well as risks of infection or similar complications following the procedure. The cost of the operation will be in the ballpark of $4500 including anesthesia and all. I paid a deposit for the operation on a credit card knowing full well that I would have no problem making the payments and paying it off. My implants have fully healed and all but fully dropped and I am scheduled to receive the operation in two weeks. In this time of reflection I also have been dating a wonderful man who loves me, implants or not, and we are approaching our 1 month anniversary. I have had some discussions with my daughter following my last post and explained to her how much I love her and that nothing is more important to me than her. My relationship with my mom is still a little rocky but I think she is just happy I am getting the implants removed. She is set to drive me to my operation and has not made any more hateful comments since I told her of my decision to remove them. I am hoping to repair this relationship as time goes on. My daughter is young enough that she won't remember this episode and it will hopefully be nothing more than a bad memory for me a few months down the line. Thank you to those who took the time to read and be constructive; not hateful. Have a nice week. OOP is criticised for missing the point. OOP tells people to kiss her ass once again. AITA for not buying for or making my son share school supplies with his step and half siblings?
I have one son who is 15. My ex and I broke up when he was 1 and my ex is now married to someone else and has three more children and two stepchildren. We split 50-50 custody and have always purchased things for each house instead of stuff that goes between houses. Only now my ex and his wife are financially struggling and they are resentful because my son got all new things for school this year, that I purchased, and they had to reuse old stuff for their other kids. At first I was asked to donate supplies to them in order to show we're all one family, which we're not. We have a common family member but I am not my ex's family and he is not mine. This would never be done if the shoe was on the other foot and he was always especially possessive of things he bought for our son when our son was younger. When this failed my ex decided our son should share what he has with the other kids so my son decided to take none of it to his dad's house. He finishes homework at school and leaves his supplies in his locker for the next day. My ex told me I should not be okay with this. But I am. It's not my job to buy these other kids supplies and my son NEEDS his own supplies. Why should I ask him to give away stuff he needs? I asked my ex and he said more could be purchased. I told him that's as good as making me buy for his kids who are not mine and I told him that will never happen. Ex's wife told me I am a selfish c*nt and how fucking dare I make her kids feel like shit when they see my son with everything shiny and new and they don't have that. I told her that's for her and my ex to figure out. Not for me. My ex said I was teaching our son to not help family and that I'm being spiteful against kids. I asked him would he be so willing to help any child of mine I had after him and he told me it's different because men always have to pay child support and I asked him why his stepkids don't have child support being paid that could have given them the money for new supplies. At that point the conversation ended but they are extremely hostile toward me now. AITA? submitted by /u/Luciluns to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITAH for buying my granddaughter school supplies instead of paying towards my stepson’s back child support?
I've (52f) married to my husband for 8 years. We both have adult children from previous relationships. My stepson is 31 is sort of shiftless in employment. He works sometimes, works for cash, works out of state on temporary jobs, etc. He's has never worked a regular, steady job. He generally does odd jobs until he falls behind in all his bills. Then he takes a temporary job (usually construction, out of state). He'll hire on with a crew remodeling Walmarts or doing a 'plant turnaround' (don't ask because I have no idea what that means) and make like $2500/week but the job only lasts 4-6 weeks. He gets caught up on bills and goes back to doing odd jobs until he falls behind again. He has an 11 year old that he sees sometimes, depending on his work schedule. He's $2000 behind in child support and paying enough every month to keep it from getting turned over to enforcement. My granddaughter called me and asked me to buy her school stuff. I took her shopping and got her clothes, shoes, school jacket, PE uniform and supplies. My stepson was cleaning the pool (we pay him) when we got home and helped us unload the stuff from my car. After her mom picked her up, he approached me and asked how much I spent. I didn't keep track, so I didn't know right off. He was annoyed and said it had to be close to $1,000 which is half of what he owes in back child support. My stepson thinks I'm an AH because I didn't pay the money towards his back child support and let her mom take her shopping 'because that's what child support is for.' My husband has no opinion about it. I think his child support is his responsibility and if I want to buy my granddaughter nicer things than her parents can afford that's got nothing to do with him owning her basic support. Her mom appreciates that I buy things she can't afford to provide. She's used to the way he pays support, knows she can't count on it for monthly expenses but also knows she'll eventually get it and uses it for big, once in a while expenses (like new tires for her car). Edited to add: My granddaughter is my stepson's biological daughter. She is not actually biologically related to me. She is the child he owes back child support for. Hubby, stepson and the in-laws all swear that they made multiple attempts to see granddaughter and her mother refused. Stepson's mother claims the same thing. I've never asked her mother about it because my goal was/is to have a relationship with my granddaughter. I really don't care who did what before I was involved. I just want to maintain friendly relations with her mom so I can take my granddaughter to the beach two states away for a long weekend whenever I want. The court is aware that he does odd jobs and he does report at least some of that income. He's ordered to pay $750/month based on whatever he reported. He doesn't live with us. He owns a house which belonged to his mother's aunt. It was pretty run down when she died so he bought it for cheap from his mom, aunt and grandma. He's fixed it himself. He owns it outright with no mortgage. submitted by /u/Worried-Light-2851 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

In 1969, the Black Panthers launched free breakfast programs across the US, feeding thousands of kids before school. The FBI called it a threat. In some cities, police raided kitchens, smashed food, and urinated on supplies to shut them down.

AITAH for Writing my little girl's name on every single school supplies.
So I'm (31F) an adoptive mom to an 8-year-old girl named Lilly. We decided to go school supply shopping because I enrolled her in a before-school-starts program. A month before school starts, they learn some extracurricular stuff. Lily really wanted to join the program, so we went out and bought all the school supplies. I have had problems with people stealing from Lily, so I made sure to mark everything. We bought all the required supplies, including a clear backpack. To prevent theft, I used E6000 glue to put her name on the clear backpack so no one could take it. It's bound to happen otherwise. We got a really cute pencil pouch, and I wrote her name with a Sharpie on the inside of the pouch. I also wrote her name on the box of markers and every individual marker. I did the same with the scissors and the glue stick. I basically wrote her name on everything to prevent theft. I sent her to the program, but when Lily came home, she was upset (though not crying). Apparently, we weren't supposed to write names on the school supplies because everything was going to be mixed up and distributed to everyone. I called the teacher, and they explained that they didn't have enough money to get every single kid their own supplies, so they planned on distributing the supplies evenly. The teacher shamed Lily for it. Now, I don't know what to do. submitted by /u/MoviegoingArtist to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for buying personalized stationery for my daughter so it can’t be redistributed in class?
My little girl, Mia (F9) has started a new school recently. We moved started and she had to start new school. I got a list of supplies that the teacher required plus extras like extra packs of crayons, etc. You know the deal. While I don’t necessarily agree with this, it’s not a hill I, willing to die on so I got everything on that list. However, I also got my child her own supplies. Now, the list didn’t say to not label them. Mia is very particular on what type of stationery she likes. I’ve heard horror stories of kids stuff being redistrubuted and them ending up with crappy supplies so I sat down with Mia and we got her personalised binders and notebooks and pencils with her name on etsy. It’s all part of the item so can’t be removed and given to another kid (like I said, as requested, I bought extra binders, etc.). It turns out that I was right to do so. When Mia got home, she brought a passive aggressive note from the teacher about Mia’s supplies. Apparently, she tried to gather all supplies and have kids pick another one. She requested that I switch Mia’s supplies to generic ones which I’m refusing to do. The teacher now requested that I stop by to have a chat regarding Mia’s supplies. I posted in local fb group and parents are divided so I need another opinion before I go meet with Mia’s teacher. Am I the asshole for buying my child personalized stationery so it cannot be taken away from her? submitted by /u/Bluecarrot002 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Starting a school supplies store
Looking for advice and tips on how to start a school supplies store. Our house in the province is near the elementary and high schools. We're planning on starting a small school supplies store. Does anyone have experience with this kind of business? How much capital is needed? We own the space so there's no need to rent. The space is around 5x2 meters. submitted by /u/user12057 to r/phinvest [link] [comments]

AITA for not following the school supply standards for my children?
I - 35M - have two children, 9M and 5M. My littlest one is going into kindergarten and I was so excited to properly include him in our school shopping routine. He's always tagged along with his brother and gotten his own arts and crafts stuff to use at home, of course, but there's a new layer of excitement this year. We always allow independence in choices, as long as it doesn't become inconvenient. For example, if my kid picks out the 120 count crayons, we might redirect him to the 96 count instead since that's easier to carry around in his backpack. Other than practicality, we don't try to persuade them in any way. It's always a fun experience and a great way to kick off the school year (and to relieve some of those "oh god my baby is leaving me" fears for my husband and I with our 5yo.) We usually grab quite a few of the items on the teacher's wish list as well and make a point to wrap it up nicely as a little thank you present from our children to the educator that will be spending the year with them. This year upon receiving the school supplies list, there is a note made at the top that all supplies should be exactly as listed on the sheet (such as, a 24 pack of crayons) as all items will be shared with every student in the class. This was confusing for me, as I buy the items specifically for my children. I decided I was going to go through with our supply shopping tradition as normal - never getting anything LESS than what was required, of course - and send a note with both of my boys that their items would be their own and could be kept in their backpacks as usual. When I expressed this sentiment to those around me (aside from my husband, who was on my side) they weren't very receptive to the idea. AITA for not following the rules listed? EDIT: I am 100% open (and now intend to) buy extra school supplies to send with each of my children for those whose families can't afford to purchase them. My kiddos also love to share and I'm sure they would love to pass around some colors from their boxes of crayons or let someone borrow their scissors when the time came. We also respect teachers and don't expect them to provide supplies for every student! Just wanted to clear these things up. submitted by /u/schoolwoes_throwaway to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
