Basement makeover
Hi! My husband and I are currently in the process of slowly renovating our home. It’s 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. Although it it 3 bedrooms, it is very small. We are wanting to start a family, and have found we are already running out of room! Our basement is not finished, we are wanting to put floors down, walls, have a living area/workspace, laundry area, and create a bedroom. It’s too expensive to move the HVAC and water heater. How could we add a bedroom to our basement? What would be the best layout/way to go about it? Thank you for any advice!! submitted by /u/SkeeterSkeet97 to r/homeimprovementideas [link] [comments]

Why do architects forget that pets exist? Dealing with the "litter box in the laundry room" fail.
I’m currently mid-renovation on my guest bath/laundry combo and the layout is a nightmare. I have exactly 24 inches of clearance under the vanity, and I refuse to have a plastic eyesore sitting in the middle of the hallway. I’ve spent way too long looking for a litter box for small space integration that doesn't require me to saw a hole in my custom cabinetry. Most "furniture" options are made of cheap MDF that swells the second it gets damp. I’ve shifted my search toward finding a high-performance litter box for small space that actually has a vertical footprint instead of horizontal. It’s wild that we talk about smart fridges and hidden pantries but "where to put the cat" is always an afterthought in home design. Has anyone successfully built a dedicated nook for a modern unit, or am I better off just sacrificing the bottom of my linen closet? submitted by /u/8Nakul to r/HomeImprovement [link] [comments]

Laundry room assist
Looking for some ideas. Worried the room will get claustrophobic if the cabinets above the washer and dryer are deep enough to actually be reachable for her. Then stumped on what to do with the 24in gap to the left of the units. submitted by /u/Errlyagain to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Finished my 1st time cruise on the Dream! Here is my Tips and Advice
🌊 Just Back: Halloween on the High Seas (Disney Dream FLL–Nassau–Lookout Cay) Firstly — wow. It was fun but so darn exhausting. We sailed with Disney Cruise Line for the Halloween on the High Seas 4-night itinerary (FLL → Nassau → Lookout Cay) — me, my spouse, and our two kids. Here are my biggest tips, takeaways, favorites, and regrets 👇 🧭 Advice & Tips Pack swimsuits + sunscreen in your embark bag. You can swim before rooms open and before the muster drill — perfect for killing time while others wait on luggage. Make a short “must-do” list before the cruise. Once the daily schedules drop, it’s overwhelming. Pick what really matters — the parties are mostly chaotic singing/dancing for an hour, then over. Skip the lanyards if you have DisneyBands. We bought both — totally unnecessary. DisneyBands handled everything except final checkout. Bring a multi-port charger. Outlets are limited; one dock keeps everyone’s devices powered. Stick to your kids’ normal sleep schedule. Learned this the hard way — overtired kids = miserable mornings. Do laundry on Day 3. Machines were open that day. Day 4 was packed. Leave time to explore the ship. The Midship Detective Agency game and hidden details are genuinely fun and relaxing. Bring magnetic hooks. Game-changer for organizing daily outfits and bags in tiny staterooms. Bring cash. $1s and $5s for port bag handlers, extra tips, and small purchases. I brought ~$60 and it was perfect. Organize documents. A small file folder for passports/birth certificates helps at check-in. I locked ours in the in-room safe right away. Masks! Tons of sick passengers. I felt awful traveling home — wish we’d worn masks indoors. Bring reusable water bottles and STAY HYDRATED. I started to feel sick/exhausted.on day 2. Electrolytes would of been smart. Decorate your door. It is actually fun and helps finding your room quickly. You or your kids may feel left out! Almost all were decorated. Fish extender. People place organizers outside their door to exchange small gifts with other passengers. I didnt participate and couldn't imagine the extra stress and packing others gifts if I did. I bet others had fun though! You must find the FB group to be added/participate. Join your sailing FB group, they give many tips and hype you up! We opted for express for disembarking. This means instead of leaving your luggage out your door at 10PM the night before to be picked up at the Terminal around 8:30-9AM, we skipped it, stood in line, and deboarded around 7:15AM-7:30AM. The latter is eating one last time on ship, and deboard with the crowds to get your things from the Terminal. We were out by 8AM and got to enjoy Florida until our flight at 3PM. This meant skipped the omboard breakfast at 7:30AM and ate somewhere local, Joe's Cafe was the best breakfast ive had in a long time! If you want to explore Florida prior or post your cruise, use baggage check near a hotel, this was a life saver while we waited for our flight back home. 🍴 Food Review Honestly? The food wasn’t amazing. Note: This could be because I am well traveled and tried most these dishes elsewhere so I could be hypercritical here with how my mind decided on this. If you have a narrow palate, you may love the food and feel adventurous with their menu. The rotational dining (Royal Palace, Animator’s, Enchanted Garden) was underwhelming — most dishes were bland or just “fine.” We ended up grabbing better food later at Luigi’s or Tow Mater’s — simple but at least it was consistent and hot. Pirate Night dinner and Lookout Cay BBQ were the best meals onboard. Palo was decent but not amazing — worth it price wise if you do the fixed menu, not à la carte. I can't comment on Remy as I didnt go. This is probably amazing and romantic if you never get dates without your kids. Going to Cabanas every morning instead of room service. It was crowded and wasted time finding seating. I should of woke up early, ordered room service and slept more while it was coming, then head out. (Someone said you have to order from a slip the night before!) If you’re a foodie, lower your expectations. ⚓ Ports 🏝️ Lookout Cay (Disney’s new island) Absolute favorite! Peaceful, organized, and beautiful. The BBQ was surprisingly good. The 10–11 minute walk from the pier was no issue — just wish we had two days here instead of Nassau. 🇧🇸 Nassau Never again. I didn’t feel unsafe, but it was chaotic and disorganized. Locals swarmed right off the ship, and I paid $20 for a “chair setup” at Junkanoo Beach that we used for 10 minutes. If I could redo it, I’d stay onboard. 🎭 Entertainment “Believe” was phenomenal — brought me to tears, and I’m not a crier. Don’t miss it. Pirate Night and Halloween parties were cute but way too crowded. Once you’ve seen the quick show, you’re good. The tastings (rum/whiskey, etc.) were absolutely worth it — unlike the $18 cocktails with 18% gratuity. My daughters bippidity boppidy boop makeover was her favorite part. We saved $100 by packing her own princess dress. BINGO was very very fun! Get there early to avoid the line. My kids absolutely LOVED the Oceaneer club/lab. They wanted to keep going. We got notifications from them when our kids wanted to leave or got hurt. 😩 Regrets Over-planning and changing plans once the daily schedules dropped — wasted precious time. Attending all the rotational dinners instead of opting for faster casual meals. Bringing too many outfits for every theme night. Waiting in the long kids club checkout line before fireworks — missed the show because of it. Letting the kids stay up too late — their moods tanked halfway through the trip. Drinking on the ship — overpriced and not worth it beyond the tastings. Not doing room service and heading to the crowded Cabanas restaurant in the morning (didnt have problems finding a seat but took up lots of time. ❤️ Final Thoughts I don’t regret going — it was a beautiful, memorable trip. But between the flights, hotel, Uber logistics, themed nights, and keeping up with the schedule, it was a marathon, not a vacation. Next time I’d skip Nassau, stay flexible, and focus on low-stress fun instead of chasing every “must-do.” I didnt sign up for excursions and idk where I would of found time too. We ended up spending $1k in 4 days on everything: drinks, extra food, bingo, and souvenirs. TL;DR: Disney Dream’s Halloween cruise is magical but exhausting. Pack swimsuits for embarkation, stay flexible, don’t overpack, skip Nassau, wear masks, and hydrate. You’ll thank yourself later. submitted by /u/Nobiggity_ to r/dcl [link] [comments]

"Sad Laundry Room" No More! Our AI's Incredible Makeover!
Hey r/DesignMySpaceAI community! We recently took on the challenge of a "sad laundry room" that was in desperate need of a functional and aesthetic overhaul. The original space was cluttered and lacked efficient storage, making laundry day feel like a chore. Our goal was to show how even the most practical rooms can be transformed into beautiful and organized spaces with the power of AI. The Original Challenge: As you can see in the "before" photos, the room was filled with miscellaneous items, and the existing wire shelving was overflowing. The user's main pain point was the lack of practical storage and an overall messy appearance. What Style Blast AI Did: Using the 'guided' mode on Style Blast AI, we focused on smart storage solutions and a streamlined aesthetic. Here's how our AI brought this room to life: Optimized Storage: The clunky wire shelving was replaced with elegant, sturdy floating wooden shelves. This not only provided ample storage for laundry essentials but also added warmth and a modern touch to the room. Streamlined Organization: The AI suggested keeping frequently used items easily accessible on the lower shelves, exactly as the user requested in their original post. Clutter was minimized, creating a serene and efficient workspace. Aesthetic Upgrade: Beyond just storage, the AI introduced complementary decor elements like woven baskets, neat product bottles, and a minimalist laundry hamper, transforming the room's vibe from cluttered to calming. The addition of a small plant adds a touch of freshness. Improved Flow: By organizing the space, the AI created a much clearer walkway, making the laundry room more pleasant and practical to navigate. Before & After: Before After You can also see the generated design directly here: https://styleblastai.com/share/EX0q3c2b7G3AV7uWo26a This transformation truly highlights how Style Blast AI can turn even the most challenging spaces into functional and beautiful areas. If you've got a room that's feeling a bit "sad," why not give it an AI-powered glow-up? Ready to transform your own space? ✨ Try Style Blast AI for FREE today! Laundry makeover
So I'm starting small. Most of the rooms in my home haven't been updated since we moved in 8 years ago. In the past my styling has been limited to painting and decorating due to budget limits but I have a bit more play money now. In saying that, I've often made the mistake of not planning a cohesive style beforehand and things have had a way of not quite coming out the way I hoped. The plan here is to use peel and stick tiles over the existing and carrying across the full stretch of wall. I'm not sure if I want it to wrap around the whole room or not. I'd also like to replace the laundry trough with a white one and replace the tapware with copper. I don't think I'll move the shelf like it appears in the image, but might add a second one either above the existing or next to it. Adding long sheers with a pully to push aside but keeping the blind. The poinsettia will be replaced seasonally and I won't be getting a rug as my cats have a tendency to use them as litter boxes. Thoughts, suggestions and recommendations are welcome and encouraged. Thanks. submitted by /u/amylouise0185 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

How best to build a long shelf in laundry room?
For reference see the first image on this page https://www.bhg.com/rooms/laundry-room/makeovers/small-laundry-room-ideas/ I want to build a floating shelf like that, above my washer and dryer. Like the topmost shelf in the pic.The difference is my laundry room is about 10ft wide, so much wider than that picture. My plan is to build a simple box out of 2x4s and screw/nail a peice of plywood to the top, then attach this to the walls. Luckily I have 3 walls to use for attaching, so I think that should make it nice and sturdy. Downside is the free-floating side is 10ft long so I'm hoping there won't be much sag. Maybe I should use a 2x6 on this front facing side? My question is, does anyone see anything wrong with this plan or have any tips for me. Also was wondering if I should try to remove strips of drywall so the shelves can attach directly to the studs. I guess it would be even more sturdy that way. An extra reason is behind this wall is the kitchen and I happen to know there is a ton of pipes and wires embedded in this wall, so removing the drywall would help ensure I don't miss any studs when attaching the shelf. I dont think I can afford to miss a stud and hit a pipe. submitted by /u/Acceptable-Platypus2 to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Cabinet color suggestions
I am doing a small laundry room makeover. I would like to do the attached wallpaper on all the walls and thinking of bringing a color from the wallpaper to the cabinets. I was leaning towards the green but wanted opinions. There are two full glass doors that face the sun but otherwise no windows. submitted by /u/Sluginarug7 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Would you complain to corporate about this?
UPDATE: Sent an email to Marriott and explained situation. They loaded my account with 25,000 points. Post: My family and I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott in Lansing, Michigan, over the weekend – Friday and Saturday. We paid a higher-than-normal rate ($225 a night) when we booked several months ago, as we knew it was MSU's homecoming game and two Big 10 schools were playing. Family came in from out of state and stayed at the same hotel. Upon check-in Friday evening, the small food/bar area was open, the bartender seemed happy, and there was a party vibe going. Between MSU coming and a wedding party staying, the hotel was sold out. The lady at the front desk was very helpful. She mentioned a hot breakfast in the morning for $6 – Eggs, sausage, hash browns, and free Starbucks drip coffee all morning. I thanked her and said how great, see you or the team in the morning. She then said, “I see you are Silver Elite, if you need anything let us know, but there may be a small delay since we are so busy this weekend”. I understood, but then we made our way to our room. The pullout sofa bed had no bedding or pillows, the mattress was dirty and trash under the couch. The lampshades in the bedroom were two different ones, the fresh toilet paper out of the package had a black dirt mark on it (not what you think) and the TV in the bedroom didn’t work. Annoying, but not the end of the world. I went back to the front desk to get bedding, and she looked annoyed but realized 5 minutes earlier she said to see her if I needed to. She took me to the laundry room, provided clean sheets, and a blanket, and I let her know we needed a pillow too. She gave me 1 out of a bin of 12 and said, “I can only give you 1”. Odd, but whatever. The hotel certainly needs investment and a makeover. Maybe a 2-star review as the staff seemed to be stressed but tried. We go to bed get up and head down to the lobby to grab something to eat and coffee at about 920am. I see the food area closed and a coffee craft in the lobby with cream/sugar. I get a small cup about half full and they run out. I asked the lady at the front desk (new lady) if there was more coffee, and she said “No, I grabbed the one from the food area to serve everyone as the guy quit this morning. Breakfast was supposed to go until 11am, you're lucky you got that!” No coffee, no breakfast, and yes, NOT the end of the world. We woke up Sunday and did the same thing, except not even the coffee this time. Great, get ready, get out of there, and go grab brunch somewhere else. As we drive home, I debate what I should do. Do I leave a bad review? Do I message corporate? Do I message the hotel directly? I 100% feel we didn’t get our value for staying two nights there. We know the chances of going to this location again are incredibly thin and would go to a competitor over this hotel. If Marriott offered points or something that would be cool. I doubt I would get a refund or anything. I feel bad on one hand as the staff seemed to try but fell short. So I thought, throw it out to this community and see what you would do or have done in the past. submitted by /u/scrapdog69 to r/marriott [link] [comments]

Low-Cost Kitchen Makeover
Reposting here because it was deleted from r/homeimprovement for some reason, and people requested to see it. I bought my 200-year-old house three years ago. It's an interesting mix of original 1800s in the front, and 1960s additions in the back, so I get to decorate with both historical antiques, and MCM details. I had grand plans of gutting and remodeling, but I chose to be patient and see what it felt like to live in for a while, and l'm so glad I did. But, I absolutely had to make some small changes to stay sane. Open the pics and Zoom in to see why. This kitchen was an addition in the 70s, and hadn't been changed since linoleum in the '90s. Pumpkin orange counter tops, yellowed, old-lady, flower-print tile backsplash, fake window muntins, country-scrolled trim, beat-up and scratched cabinets with corrodec hardware, '80s Pizza Hut lighting, a leaking dishwasher and an open view to the laundry room. First, I degreased, prepped, and painted the backsplash with a tile paint kit. One day of easy work: $40 Then I prepped and painted the countertops with a kit from Amazon. Two days of easy, but tedious work. I wish I used more of the white, as they turned out way more blue than I planned, but I wasn't about to do another coat for a temporary solution. No one evel believes me when I say they're painted though, initial impressions are that it's corian or Formica. It's not super durable, but it's good enough until it's time for the $12k slate counters. ~ $180 Next, I tore off the fake muntin overlav from the window, and removed the piece of scroll-cut trim above the sink and sliced it straight on the table saw. This made a huge difference in how datec the room looked. ~20 mins and free! One day I was staring at the cabinets, sad how scratched and torn up they were, and decided to try spraying mohawk Scratch-offin mahogany on a rag and wiping it off. Wow, I don't need new cabinets! I spent an hour doing every cabinet, and they look amazing. Saved me $30k in cabinets! Next, I replaced the Pizza Hut lights that hung so low I hit my head on them with cheap LED fxtures. Very temporary, but I was so sick of whacking my head or them. The junction boxes were jacked up, so it took about an hour to replace both of them. I ended up selling the old lights for $50, so technically I made $20 on this bit. Next, I replaced the dishwasher. I had to cut it out with an angle grinder because the hardware was so rusted, then the floor was recessed in a funny angle- way more annoying than it should have been. I spent about $700 on a nice model on sale at Home Depot and it's absolutely the best dishwasher I've ever used Everything is clean, every time, and the drying function gets everything except coffee mugs and Tupperware 100% dry. $750 total, and three hours Finally, I put up a sliding bamboo curtain to hide the laundry room. Originally I wanted a barn door (despite hating that trend), but quotes for $3k+, or spending a month building one myself were not feasible. I spent $140 on sliding curtains from Amazon, and had the hung in 30 minutes, by myself. I then spent a few hours building a valence to hide the hardware, which I stained using what I had on-hand- just mohawk Scratch-off, and some spray shellac. Nearly matches the cabinets! All that to say, $1200 and a few days of easy work made a huge difference. Ive also added an end-grain butcher block table ($1,600 Boos block- my splurge which will eventually go in a different spot, and be replaced with a longer version), and two nice stools ($350). Though far from perfect, it's usable, and I don't hate it! My guests and I love being in the kitchen now. Paint and foors are next, although I may wait until it's time for a backsplash and countertops. submitted by /u/HatchawayHouseFarm to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

"24 HOURS before the FIRST day of school w/ 6 KIDS routine!"
Hello everybody! I have been making summaries of every video because not everyone watches their channel but still likes to know what’s going on. I have released a bunch already. If you want to read them, you can go to my profile and check them out. Recap time: "24 HOURS before the FIRST day of school w/ 6 KIDS routine!" What’s up fam? School is starting tomorrow for most of the kids. She needs to get everything ready. T-mobile sponsorship. A watch for kids that takes pictures, makes calls, sets alarms, controls steps and allows you to play games (good distraction for class, great idea Jesss). She shows Mango (the bearded dragon) eating fruit, Chris is going out to buy him some insects. Jesss sets on her phone a calendar for the kids’ school schedule, then she asks the boys to fold their laundry. Then Lilia too. Jesss gets an e-mail explaining what classes the elementary school kids will go into. Kyson and Kaden will be staying in the same class as before, Landen will be going into Kyson’s class. Question for the Americans: How come Landen is going to Kyson’s class if they’re in different years? How does it work in the US? Maybe it's because it's different kind of school? The boys film getting ready for bed. She shows the kids ‘living area (the room she was doing the makeover then lost some of the content, she calls it the green room). The kids actually brush their teeth by themselves (including Addie, even though it didn’t look like she was doing a great job, I hope Jesss checked her teeth). Finally! She packs the kids’ lunches (or prepares some of it). She recently made a Instastory saying she bought new (bigger) lunchboxes for the kids but now we can see she’s not using them (clearly it was just for a sponsorship, ironically those seemed much better than these ones). End of Video Boring video, just another excuse to do a sponsorship. Jesss is clearly transitioning to TikTok now. She took 8 days to post this video, but she has been posting pretty much everyday on TikTok. I might start doing recaps of those TikToks too, but I’d like some feedback to see if it’s worth my time or not. Obviously, they’re shorter videos than Youtube but she always edits them in a way that has too much stuff happening and there’s a lot to snark on, I might even include two or more recaps in one post if they end up being too small. Let me know your opinion. submitted by /u/EmergencyPause9491 to r/jesssfam_snark [link] [comments]

Laundry Room to Pantry Makeover
Laundry Room Album Hey all, first time NOT posting on mobile so I could get this right. We have had a fairly large laundry room since moving into our house 5 years ago, we have also had an extremely small pantry. There are 4 of us and we cook at home a lot, the pantry is a mess. We decided that we would convert the laundry room into a walk in pantry, then as a separate project turn the old pantry into a "mud room" type of areas. Project Details/Costs: We had an electrician move the dryer outlet to the back wall so we could move the washer/dryer against the back wall. Approximate cost was $200, had them do some other work too. Light fixture from Amazon $70, LED bulb upgrade $10 Elfa System from The Container Store around $950 Reclaimed Cedar Wood $32 1/2 Inch Iron Pipe for Shelves $22 All other paint and sundries left over from other projects Check out the album, it turned out great. The original plan was to custom build the shelves, however, my wife really wanted a "system". The Elfa system is pretty awesome, highly recommend. Need help finishing out a basement laundry room
Right now we've got the typical, dingy, cobweb-infested basement laundry room that also houses the boiler and various pipes in the rafters. I'd like to give it a makeover and do as much of the work myself, but I could use some guidance. Brick walls. Overall the brick is in decent shape. There's some mortar missing and a few small cracks. Do I need to patch those or fix the pointing? If so, how? The previous owners already painted the brick white so I'm assuming I can just paint over that with masonry paint? Concrete floor. Similar to brick walls. There's one small crack near the drain but otherwise the floor is in good shape. Should this be repaired? I'd also like to "seal" it somehow as right now it's just poured concrete. Is all the etching and sealing necessary before painting or using an epoxy? Are there eco-friendly options? Pipes. These are also painted white. Can I just clean them off and paint over them again? The rest of the stuff (shelving, folding table, etc) I'm confident I can handle but the brick and concrete are big concerns. Am I getting in over my head or is this doable? Thanks!
