Mom called it Ghonge Ka Pisa Masala😭 Snail Mucin after Derma rolling
My skin lost a lot of moisture after derma rolling. No amount of moisturizer was helping and most serums in market are just loaded with actives. So I finally got my hands on snail mucin and it has been really helpful in holding the hydration. My skin finally feels soft, shiny and supple again. The packaging sucks but I find Quench a good affordable snail mucin option. Especially for first timers. submitted by /u/richnibbasex to r/IndianSkincareAddicts [link] [comments]

Replacing my snail mucin
I’ve been a COSRX snail mucin believer for a long time since my skin barrier was a mess. But after going through my 4th bottle, I started feeling like it wasnt doing anything more so I just started a new routine. I tried a couple of things but so far one that I am keeping as part of my routine is a Beta Glucan serum from the Korean brand iUnik. I’m about halfway through the bottle now and honestly surprised at how well my skin has responded. Hydration feels deeper, with HA serums, I always felt I needed to mist and seal immediately or I’d get that tight feeling. With this one, I can apply it straight after cleansing and my skin stays balanced even if I forget moisturizer for 10 minutes. No tackiness since it is way less sticky than snail, and layers SO nicely under sunscreen. I haven’t had a single dry patch in weeks, even with tret 2x/week, although I have to say that my COSRX cream did an excellent job at repairing my skin barrier. But for under $20, this serum is punching above its weight class Imo. Very happy find submitted by /u/OkBumblebee1101 to r/koreanskincare [link] [comments]

43(F), started Retin-A 0.025% 6 weeks ago. In the am I wash my face with Cerave cleanser, then put on Timeless Vitamin C 20% serum, then Cerave Cream, then BOJ sunscreen. In the evening I do Retin-A with Cerave Cream again. I do have light peeling, despite sandwich method. I would love to introduce one other product. Unsure about Snail Mucin Essence - which are better alternatives?
I want to discuss hydrating essences with you. Background: I love to use a gel under my sunscreen (Round Lab) to hydrate my skin. From a Hyaluronic serum I switched to the COSRX Snail Mucin Essence, but I don’t know if I like my skin more with it, I have to admit. I think might be better contenders on the kbeauty market by now? [Acne] Struggled with a decade of acne and been clear for 5 years. Here is everything I’ve tried vs everything that’s worked + my current routine.
pic 1: taken AFTER my accutane course. my acne here is still much better in this then it used to be. Apologies for the low quality, I hated pictures because I was super insecure hence why I don’t have ones from before accutane either. pic 2: makeup only on my eyes and lips, nothing on my skin except sunscreen and moisturizer. My eyebrows are microbladed. FULL DISCLOSURE #1: I am not a dermatologist nor a licensed esthetician. I am a registered nurse with a basic understanding of microbiology and human anatomy who has spent way too many hours on skincare YouTube. What I’ve detailed below is what worked for me, and by no means what works for everyone else. FULL DISCLOSURE #2: I’ve had pico laser done once in office to help with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation as well as laser removal of my flat facial moles. FULL DISCLOSURE #3: I am not sponsored by, nor do I have any conflict of interest with any of these brands I list. Things I’ve tried that didn’t work (before y’all come for me please remember that I started this journey when I was like 10 😂) - benzoyl peroxide (I am allergic 😭) - spironolactone - clay masks - scrubs/ physical exfoliation (St. Ives 😱) - peel off masks - salicylic acid acne clearing pads - proactiv (the entire set) - pore strips - Mario badescu drying lotion - witch hazel - Clinique clarifying lotion - 10 step Korean skin care routine (I didn’t curate it, I just bought blindly based off of what had good reviews 🤦‍♀️) - snail mucin - essence and/ or toner - Chinese medicine (I don’t even know what I was taking tbh.) - not moisturizing “because I was too oily” - any type of DIY mask (lemon juice, egg, honey, olive oil, yogurt, rice water, u name it) - topical clindamycin Things that worked but don’t currently use: - Accutane (I did a 6 month course; acne came back eventually but SO much improvement in severity) - CeraVe SA cleanser - rx Sodium Sulfacetamide cleanser (cleansing with sulfur is one of the things I truly believe saved my skin. I still break out when I go without my sulfur for too long. I think it’s bullshit when people say your face wash doesn’t matter - sulfur absolutely matters for me) - oral doxycycline (worked only while I was actively using, but was worried about antimicrobial resistance) - ZitSticka Skin Discipline multivitamin capsules (genuinely helped my skin but was too expensive and was able to wean off of them over the course of trial and error x 1 year) Current Regimen AM: - cleanse CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser - serum: glossier super pure (niacinamide and zinc - been repurchasing this for over 6 years now) - moisturizer: glossier after baume (my HG moisturizer: super thick and luxurious but doesn’t break me out) - sunscreen + vit c: melano CC sunscreen spf 50++++ PM - first cleanse: glossier milky jelly cleansing balm (doesn’t really matter what first step cleanser I use tbh. I’ve used banila co, the inkey list, CeraVe makeup balm, etc. as long as it removes makeup and sunscreen well I’m good) - second cleanse: Dermaharmony 5% Sulfur and 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid Castile Soap (I switched to this from using CeraVe SA + rx Sulfur cleanser because I was tired to carrying around 2 bottles as well as having to get an rx for my sulfur wash. I absolutely still need Salicylic acid AND sulfur in my regimen. - moisturizer: glossier after baume - agency skincare formula for hyperpigmentation: tretinoin 0.035% + tranexamic acid 5% + dexpanthenol 1% + niacinamide 4% - when I’m super dry, esp in the winter: Elizabeth Arden advanced ceramide capsule (I usually just use like 1/3 of a capsule and leave the rest in the clean spot for later. Glossier future dew works okay too, just doesn’t spread as nicely) + I skip my retinol for a night General rules (these are also critically important) 1. Don’t touch your face unless you’ve just washed your hands. 2. Dedicate a towel for your face and treat it like it’s sterile. Don’t use it for anything else but your face. Don’t hang it near the toilet (invisible fecal particles erupt from your toilet when u flush). 3. Change your face towel and your pillowcases at LEAST every 4ish days. I like to do every 2. I have a million old T-shirts that can be used as pillowcases. When a side gets “old”, flip it to the other side and you’re gucci. 4. Pat when you’re drying with a towel. Be gentle. Don’t rub your face ever. I also prefer to lather my face wash with a foaming net until I have a thick, dense cloud. You don’t want to be tugging or manually scrubbing at your skin. Let the micro bubbles do the work. 5. Please wash that damn makeup sponge/ brush with soap and water after every use 😩 and deep clean with boiling water if it’s safe to do so every couple of uses. I just throw my wet beauty blender in the microwave with some water in a bowl for 3 minutes every 6-7 uses (the manufacturer does not recommend this as it may cause the blender to deform or lose integrity. I’ve never had an issue. Move forward at your own discretion) Treat your makeup like it’s sterile too - only a clean brush/ clean finger is allowed to touch it. Sorry it’s so long! I hope this helps someone :) submitted by /u/plaesma to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

My skin became red and I got breakouts after using the snail mucin! Please help!
I’m 19 F combo acne prone skin. so I recently brought my skin care product products online and they’ve worked wonders, but after using the snail mucin 3 to 4 days in, (I eventually discontinued it yesterday) my skin started to become irritated and red. Every time I touch my face after washing it and after I do my routine, I feel like I’m touching something hot and my redness eventually goes away and my skin becomes for like a minute much later, even after an hour and my skin calms down, but I’ve been very concerned and the culprit is snail essence. How can I save my skin because this has never happened. Especially after using the medicube serum which has saved my skin , my skin becomes a little red, and this has never happened before with other products. how can I be able to continuing to use my products without my skin becoming red and being able to heal my scars and avoiding breakouts when the only problem products out of all was the snail essence? Please help! submitted by /u/sakuramune to r/koreanskincare [link] [comments]

[acne] A year after stopping Cerave
A year ago I went to my derm about the acne on my face. I felt like I was doing everything I was supposed to, and tiktok hype told me to try cerave because it was “the best” cleanser and moisturizer duo. My derm prescribed me with tret but advised me to stay far away from cerave. She said the ingredients are pretty bad and a lot of people who use it break out into acne, at least more than others. I swapped my cleanser to first aid beauty both am and pm. I also use belif toner (am) and moisturizer (am/pm). I sometimes use corsx snail mucin or a calming serum from a Korean brand I forget the name of (beauty of geoson?? Idk). I also use round lab sunscreen (kr version, not us) I never used the tret. submitted by /u/toocoo to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

What is your absolute forever HG serum. Time to say goodbye to snail mucin. [Product request]
I’ve been using snail mucin as a serum for the past few years and feel it’s time to part with it and try something new. I have dehydrated sensitive skin, some red pigmentation from occasional and old pimples and my biggest worry is fine lines and preventing wrinkles. I’m turning 24 pretty soon. What is your absolute favourite gamechanger serum that you truly believe works. Preferably “cleaner ingredients” but not necessary. I don’t care if it’s AB, Sephora, Lux, drugstore, niche, pricey or not, I just want to hear what really really works. Thank you 🩷 submitted by /u/volcanoslut to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

[Research] Derm's review of the evidence for snail mucin
Hi everyone! I'm a NYC-area dermatologist and have been doing a deep dive on the evidence for snail mucin and wanted to share what I found in case it is of interest for you! As a disclaimer, this is strictly for educational purposes and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. What is snail mucin? The main type of snail mucin is essentially the goop that is secreted by snails. There's two forms used in skincare products, secretion of cryptomphalus aspersa (SCA) and cryptomphalus aspersa egg extract (CAF). Both come from the common brown garden snail (cryptomphalus aspersa). SCA is made by stimulating snails and separating/filtering their secretions (snail slime). CAF is made by breaking apart the snail eggs and separating out the egg contents itself. SCA is the more established ingredient so I'll be focusing on that. SCA was actually first used to treat radiation dermatitis. Scientists found that snails secreted large amounts of mucin in response to harmful radiation and showed that it could be used to treat radiation dermatitis in patients receiving radiotherapy to treat their cancers. What does the lab data show? There's a number of studies that use SCA in a lab setting to investigate what it does to different human cell lines. These have found a few effects: SCA stimulates fibroblast function as well as proliferation and migration: fibroblasts are the cells that make the collagen in your skin, this suggests a potential anti-aging benefit SCA has antioxidant effects: free radical damage from UV and pollution leads to skin aging, DNA damage, and collagen degradation, antioxidants work to prevent this by removing free radicals from your skin SCA decreases matrix metalloproteinase expression in fibroblasts: increased matrix metalloproteinase expression is found in aged fibroblasts, these are enzymes that break down proteins in our skin like collagen, this suggests a potential anti-aging benefit SCA increases expression of cell-cell adhesion molecules: increased cell-cell adhesion in the skin prevents water loss to the environment, this suggests a potential hydrating benefit Is there any clinical data? For all of the hype around this ingredient, there is not a huge amount of data showing what SCA does to human skin. The best study was one placebo-controlled split-face study. This is the best way to test cosmetic products because half of the face gets a placebo and the other gets the product so that patients serve as their own control. They looked at 25 patients and found that SCA led to improved texture, hydration, and fine lines. The rest of the studies are harder to interpret because they combine SCA with other actives so we can't isolate the effect of the SCA itself. By and large the primary effect of SCA appears to be improvement in skin hydration. Finally, because of the suggested regenerative benefits of SCA, its been used as a post-procedural treatment after both ablative and non-ablative laser treatments. SCA after laser treatment was found to lead to faster recovery and some improvement in the cosmetic effect of the treatment. Conclusion So what do we take away from this? Should you be using snail mucin in your routine? The reality is that "snail mucin" is a mixture of many different compounds including hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, various peptides, and others. It really depends on what you want to use it for. My opinion is that it fits in as a kind of "hyaluronic acid+" into your routine. By far the most apparent effect in all of the clinical studies of snail mucin was skin hydration and a large amount of the dry weight of snail mucin is hyaluronic acid and other glycosaminoglycans. It certainly has other components that lead to other effects but whether this will add anything for you depends on what else you're using. If you already have a vitamin C antioxidant serum and are using a retinoid for collagen-boosting (ingredients with stronger evidence for these effects), you may not get as much added benefit from it. TLDR You can treat snail mucin as a hyaluronic acid replacement if you want to add it to your routine. How much effect you get depends on what else you're already using. submitted by /u/mdskindoc to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]
