About those Solar Mushroom Lights
So I bought the solar mushroom lights. They're beautiful and fun. However, I am on a personal quest to rid this land of poorly made lights that last a season and then go into the bin. The solar panel is woefully inadequate to keep these lit a reasonable amount of time. I took it to bits. It has a 1200mah 18650 cell, which is shite. It could use a better battery but there's not much point to that until they redesign the solar cell to something that actually charges it. After a full, bright day I'm measuring 1.2V from a cell that should be 3.6ish. The housing is not waterproof, it had a fair amount of water in it from a few rainstorms we had. I'm a nerd so I might hardwire these to a 12V transformer I have. I currently have a single mushroom running happily at 3V 225ma. So a 3v buck converter with a 2-3a capacity will run a farm of mushroom lights. Manufacturers need to do better, I'm not interested in products that barely work. Especially when the rest of the product is pretty good. I'll pay for higher quality, I think most people would. With this being a Costco item I would expect everyone to eventually return them but I am not an expert in consumer psychology. Thank you for attending my mushroom light Ted Talk. Edit: Item 1997788 for the 2-pack online. Also available in store in single packs. submitted by /u/sockpuppets to r/Costco [link] [comments]

I bought 6 POOLJOYO solar pool lights because I loved the idea of never having to mess with turning the lights on and off, but I've already had to return 2 that had leaks in the LED plastic casing causing it to short out. Are battery/Solar powered external lights any good yet?
I've got a metal lamppost the previous house owner left. its mains and wired in, and for the couple of weeks it worked it was great for lighting up a patio area maybe 5m x 5m so people could go and sit outside. But I suspect its either letting water in, or the wiring isn't amazing, and I've disconnected it until I have time for a proper look. But its starting to rust, and so sooner or later I need to replace it. But Im lazy, and cant think of anything I want to do less than pull up half a patio in search of a cable, then maybe end up replacing it and blah blah blah. So what else do people use? I have some really bright rechargeable work lights, which I suppose I could rig up when we're outside (but Im going for "pleasant evening in the garden", not "building site", but the "garden lights" we have dotted about are solar, and are fine for a little area, but not a larger space. So what are people doing? Is it possible to get something that looks nice, is bright, and is either solar or rechargeable? submitted by /u/Visible-Variety-2152 to r/AskUK [link] [comments]

I installed solar lights and became the neighborhood's accidental trendsetter
I installed solar garden lights along my walkway last month since I got bored with using motion-sensor spotlights that would turn my yard into a prison break each time a cat passed by. I simply wanted something diffused and steady, nothing fancy. The surprise? Apparently, I started a trend. I noticed that three neighbors have installed the same lighting. One of my neighbors asked me where I had gotten mine, to which I said, “Alibaba”. Another one questioned me whether I am a landscape designer, which is funny since I am barely able to preserve my lawn. What is even more surprising is how much these small lights transformed the entire mood of my yard. It was transformed from a house with a yard to a house with a premeditated design with minimal effort. Passersby actually slug their feet to peep in the night. A note was left by one person wanting to know about the lights. A NOTE!! About garden lighting. I did not do any reading of the spacing, placement, or the real landscaping principles. I simply pushed them into the ground about where I thought I was going. Seemingly, I was well-placed and thoughtfully positioned, as stated by the neighbor who pointed it out. I am now getting questions on landscaping, similar to what I know and I am doing. People presume this must be something great in some planning. It wasn't. I simply did not want to fall on my path anymore. submitted by /u/Outside-Sky-7473 to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Are solar LED flood lights actually worth it or should I go wired?
I’m planning to add a couple of LED flood lights around my home for security and general outdoor lighting, but I’m stuck choosing between solar powered and wired options. Solar looks super convenient since there’s no wiring or electrician needed. I’ve seen lots of affordable models on Alibaba, Amazon, and even local hardware stores that claim long runtime and good brightness. The idea of zero electricity cost and easy installation is really appealing. But at the same time, I keep reading that wired flood lights are brighter, more reliable, and consistent through the night, especially during cloudy days or rainy seasons. I don’t want something that fades out after a few hours or stops working when the battery weakens. For anyone who has tried both, how do they compare in real use? Is solar strong enough for security lighting, or is wired still the better long term choice? Also, any recommended brands or marketplaces to check? Would really appreciate some honest experiences before I buy. submitted by /u/Pale-Tie-2760 to r/Lighting [link] [comments]

Solar powered pool lights.
Hey everyone! My built-in pool lights have been off for a while since they’re 120V, and I really don’t want to deal with the conversion to 24V right now. Still, I’d like to have some kind of lighting in the pool, ideally solar-powered and RGB if possible. Has anyone found a solar pool light (floating or mounted) that actually works well, it strong and bright and lasts more than a few weeks? Most of what I see on Amazon looks kind of hit-or-miss.
