We were supposed to go pick up a new foster yesterday. Instead the foster came to us.
Young stray had been hanging around about a week and then began following us to the door and swatting and yelling when we wouldn't let him in. Extensive social media-ing has not found his family, and we live near a park with a managed colony where many get dumped. Unfixed and so presumably unchipped, though obviously we will check. We'll get him fixed and adopted through our usual rescue and then get the next crew. Say hello to Squishy Cheeks McGee. He spent a very relaxed night in a big dog crate, is excited about wet and dry food, and when my husband opened the door to clean his litterbox today Cheeks simply crawled directly into his arms like "No, silly, hugs first." Update After 3 Days Inside: Y'all, this was definitely somebody's baby and, I'm starting to suspect, dumped when he got bigger and "scarier". He wants laps at all times, pets at all times, loves to play, but gets mouthy or swatty when denied in precisely that single-kitten-syndrome, we-let-you-get-away-with-it-when-you-were-tiny-and-cute way, and of course he's unfixed so the troublepuffs are undoubtedly increasing the trouble. Despite the antibiotics I had to get after he got spooked by a loud sound just when I was putting him back in his cage, we love him, but we've got three middle-aged kitties who will not adapt well to a big bratty boy muscling in. But he is going to get lots of love until we find him his new forever people. submitted by /u/ijustwannabegandalf to r/CatDistributionSystem [link] [comments]

Starting over at 39...need help with friends and relationships
I am NOT Original OP — OOP is u/Lunaloove posting in r/LifeAdvice , r/love Potential trigger warnings: alcoholism, abuse ——————————————— [Original | August 25th, 2024] Starting over at 39.. friends and relationships Where do I begin? Stayed in a 12 year alcoholic relationship for prob 11.5 years too long. No- but in all seriousness, probably 7 years longer than I should have. We ended up moving to a new state together and I was hoping that would have been a fix to it but things just got worse. It’s been about 4 months since I ended it and have officially moved on. How do I get a lot of the past traumas out of my head? He made me feel so utterly unattractive in the relationship near the end, that I don’t believe when someone hits on me. I’m completely over the relationship and emotionally available for sure. How do I make friends again? I did join a volunteer thing in my community but where do ones usually find friends at this age? Him and I never had kids so taking my kids to a place where other mom and dads go to make friends is out. I’m pretty chill. Super easy to get along with and pretty funny. I work a lot with younger people so making friends like that doesn’t seem to interest me. I have a wide range of hobbies and like to try new things. I know they always tell the 20s something it gets better but what about us almost 40 something’s? Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: I wish I knew, my wife left me and it’s hard to feel like my life is over. I hope you find a way out of it. OOP: Oh my gosh. I am so sorry to hear this. Coming from the person who did the leaving in my situation, I know I just had had enough. Enough of the alcohol coming before me. Enough of the asking for what I needed to only be ignored. I hope you find peace in your upcoming days and your life is not over .. know that! Commenter 2: I also started over at 39. I dated like crazy, mostly from apps; I believe when I was using them, Bumble had a setting for people looking for friends too, but I never tried it. I made a ton of friends by joining a running group. Runners are insanely supportive, and when different people would train for different things, I’d volunteer to go on runs with them; one girl invited me to travel with them, and she and I became closer. And there are groups for all different kind of people, and the groups like intermingle and all get together for different stuff. I ended up meeting my wife on a dating app, and since those things don’t come with any type of warning or disclaimer (luckily), my son came a little later. Now, I have an amazing wife, an awesome stepdaughter, and a son I didn’t know I could love this much. I was heartbroken when I had to start over, but I fucking love my life now. I hope the same for you, friend. OOP: This was so beautiful to read ——————————————— [Update 1 | October 2nd, 2024 | 1 Month Later] Believe in the invisible red string theory? Well here’s my story on it if I don’t end up marrying this man.. all hope is lost. 😂 I moved to a new state about 5 years ago for a job. I was in a 8 year relationship at the time and I know I was moving with or without my partner at the time. He did move with me and we spent the past 5 years trying to figure out the relationship. I eventually ended it due to the abuse and alcoholism. Only reason I was in this state was because of my job. Jump forward to scrolling through Reddit and I come across a post about how dating in my state is horrible and one comment jumped out at me. For some reason I decided to message the account. He gave me his views and his opinions based on his last relationship and we just casually talked about it. Shared pictures of each other and still thought nothing of it. I was kinda excited to get Reddit messages from him so one night I asked if he wanted to text or keep talking g over Reddit. He said he didn’t care but gave me his number. He ended up only living like 35-40 mins from me We texted non stop. I secretly started wanting to get texts from him and even caught myself hoping for a good morning text. He asks me on a date and I agree. This prob was not even 48 hrs into texting. We are on that date and he asks about my job and my company. He then proceeds to tell me that his best friend is dating someone from the same company (mind you I had never told him which one it was) Come to find out his best friend is dating my really good friend who I hired 4 years ago! I had literally just hung out with her the week or so prior. She had quit and I hired her back about a year ago too! Even smaller world, she has known him for like 6 years! This little red string had been working its magic for the past 4 years tying us together. I have never felt so seen and so appreciated in my life than I have with this man. I’m 39 and he’s 35 so it’s not like relationships are something new to us.. He is literally the definition of my soulmate. Since that first date we have been tied at the hips and I know I’m going to marry this man. He swore off dating. He was content being single. I had just left my 12 year relationship but that lil string finally decided to let us meet. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: This is an awesome story.I too just started dating this gal and within first hour of meeting her I knew she was a keeper. OOP: I knew the first night!! ——————————————— [Update 2 | October 8th, 2024 | 1.5 Months Later] I can’t believe it took me 39 years to find someone to love me the way I deserved to be love and I don’t have to beg for it Invisible string girl here! Just want to share some texts of my invisible string guy. I can’t believe I ever settled for less. I believe we both had to go through what we went through with all our failed relationships to deserve the love we give each other. Photos Editor's note: Transcriptions of text messages: Good morning Angela what a beautiful day we are going to have today. I'm so excited for this Tuesday that's upon us! I look forward to seeing you. Xoxo My sweet sweet girl. I love you. I love that we play games. I love that you tell me what you're thinking. You have the fullest lips I love everything that you are and I'm so happy you're here xoxoxoxoxo Yes, one when I got up at 4, snuggles prior to that. I showered and got dressed. Then I hugged you and gave you about ten cheek kisses. Then I went to let go and you grabbed me. So we hugged a little longer then I said I love you and left for my day. I'm happy as heck. You're such a blessing. I'm laying here with my dobbie squishy thinking how could I have gotten so lucky. Eating cupcakes today talking with Dion about how lucky I am. I'm very blessed. I look forward to our future. I can't wait to wake up next to you everyday. I can't wait to have a day off with you. Just a day to sit and relax with you. I just can't believe it some days lol I'd love you if you were a worm I hope we both appreciate how special each other is. It's a truly excellent meeting of people. I do also believe we had to go through our sh*t to find each other. I hope Jamie and Brandon are happy as heck and we are all old one day together. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Can we get some claps for women who let their men be enthusiastic about them?👏👏👏 OOP: Preach! Say it a little louder for those who are just a tad bit jaded to believe guys like this exist Commenter 2: Idk maybe I've been on the sad side of Reddit too much, he's either Love-Bombing or just really affectionate. With that being said, I really hope he's just an extremely affectionate person. OOP: Super affectionate. His texts match his actions ——————————————— [Update 3 | October 20th, 2024 | 2 Months Later] Partner appreciation time. What’s that one thing they do that means so much? What is a little thing that you notice your partner does that is so simple but means so much? My boyfriend always makes sure the blanket is covering me throughout the night. Even if it’s just my ankle hanging out, he makes sure to cover me with the blanket. It could be 3 am and I can feel him gently checking to make sure I’m covered. I don’t think he’s realized I’ve noticed that he does this but it gives me such a sense of protection that even in his sleepy state, he’s making sure I’m comfy and taken care of 🩷 Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: He whispers "I love you" to me at night when he thinks I'm asleep 😭 Commenter 2: I just found out that mine has an alarm set for when I get off work so he can call me and not miss me getting off while he's at work, thought it was the cutest thing ever 😊 OOP: 🩷 Commenter 3: Almost every time he passes me while I’m sitting on the couch he reaches out to touch or pet me as he goes by. We’ve been married for 32 years. ——————————————— [Update 4 | December 14th, 2024 | 4 Months Later] Laying here next to him snoring- just so full of love for the love him and his family provides and shows me (39f) Last night was straight out of a movie. Little back story quickly. I’m the red string theory girl and we are still going strong. We actually took the leap and decided to move in together a week or so back and I gave up my apartment to move in with him and his son. Everyday, EVERY SINGLE DAY ( even when we moved in) I wake up to a text message from this man letting me know he loves me and how special I am. He sends it quickly while he warms his car up in the AM. Every Friday they have family dinner night. I had a tooth pulled and wasn’t really up to it but I went anyways. His mom called to let us know she made some soft food just for me. How kind and considerate. I got to sit around the table while him, his dad and mom all made peanut butter balls in the kitchen and sharing childhood stories. And after dinner all of us sat and played Uno. It was straight outta a movie. It was the sweetest. His moms kept checking on me and making sure I was okay with the pain and once it got to be too much, we left. I’ve always wanted a relationship like this. I come from an extremely broken family. Mom killed herself, dad is an alcoholic, my brothers are not in my life. I tell myself my parents tried their best but it wasn’t all great. I’ve always leaned on friends as my family.. but now I feel the love that I’ve always been missing from a family. Anyone else find a relationship like this? Here’s some pics of his GM texts 🩷❤️ what a great time of season for love More photos of texts Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: I love that!! I love sending GM messages, that’s so sweet. I’m glad you’re experiencing that love, care, and comfort you’ve longed for. Wish you the best ❤️!! OOP: I bet your partner appreciates them. I used to think eating cold bread for dinner was a punishment but now I completely get the Abendbrot hype
When I moved to Munich from India two years ago for my PhD my biggest anxiety was the food. Growing up dinner was always the main event of the day, a hot and complex meal with fresh rotis or rice and multiple curries. The very concept of Abendbrot, just eating cold bread and cheese for dinner, sounded like a mild form of torture to me. I spent my first few months here stubbornly cooking full hot meals every single night after getting back from the lab at TUM. That lasted until the exhaustion of my research schedule finally broke me. One evening I was too tired to cook and just bought a loaf of Kürbiskernbrot from the bakery down the street. That was the moment I realized German bread is an entirely different species of food compared to the squishy white loaves I knew from supermarkets back home. The sheer engineering that goes into baking here is fascinating. The crust on a good Roggenmischbrot is tough enough to break a window but the inside is incredibly dense and flavorful. I started making it a habit to try a different type of bread every week. There are so many variations with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and different flours that the local Bäckerei almost feels like a library of carbs. Now I am a complete convert to the Abendbrot lifestyle. After a long day of failed experiments or endless data analysis there is something deeply comforting about the simplicity of it. I just pull out a wooden board, cut a couple of thick slices of fresh bread, add some butter, a slice of cheese, maybe some cherry tomatoes or radishes, and dinner is done in three minutes. It is unpretentious and genuinely filling. I still spend my weekends cooking the heavy Indian dishes I miss from home. But on a random rainy Tuesday night in Munich, sitting down to a solid slice of dark German bread with good butter has become one of my favorite daily rituals. submitted by /u/CoderDecoderEncoder to r/germany [link] [comments]

My first camping trip!
So my ex took me camping for the first time, it was amazing! We also went to the lake, fished a bit, cooked, partied, went to bed, and then went mushroom hunting before we cooked a hearty lunch, then threw hatchets and I taught him how to use a blowgun. I think my favorite part was the food! The first night we put sweet onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, red potatoes and golden potatoes, Cajun sausage, and kielbasa in a foil pack with some slap ya mama seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, and jalapeño seasoning( jalapeños are kinda my favorite vegetable). But we made a lot so that night we halfed the first packed, and left the second in the coals to cook all night! It was the most heavenly breakfast ever! For lunch he made Cajun sausage, kielbasa egg and cheese sandwiches, but I didn’t remember to take a pic before inhaling it, but he did. Oh, and of course we made s’mores! I also learned that I don't particularly like taking a tent down, but it was worth it in the end. Oh, and my ex annoyed me by talking a picture of a lure stuck in my hair before he helped me, I was embarrassed, but he was quite amused. But the joke is on him, later that night I was showing him my new flashlight that has a UV light, he saw something glowing and thought it was a rock or something, but as he picked it up he said; it’s squishy, that is when I told him it was probably mouse poo while dying of laughter( it is the blue thing by his shoe, he switched to using a stick after I told him, I think he was confirming what he just touched!)!!! It was an amazing time, I really love camping and my ex! submitted by /u/gorgeously_mytruself to r/camping [link] [comments]

I miss you my Pearl
I was preparing for Pearl’s death for years. I had foster failed her in 2011 at about one year old, just before the shelter was going to euthanize for her space. She was a silky, squishy, smiley gray pittie girl. We lived fully, and boy was she spoiled rotten. My #1 ride or die. My daughter. My everything. MY Pearl. But as the years ticked on, age 12…13…14… I was feeling it coming. She had a million health scares over the years, including multiple mast cell tumors removed, but was still remarkably healthy for her age. So much energy, sass, and zest for life. She felt good! But the stress, the impending dread, as many of you know, was more present than ever. I thought if i just gave her everything I had, to be with her almost always (purposely chose a WFH career), if i give her the best life ever, that when it finally happened i’d feel at peace with it all. that the absolute nightmare that follows, which everyone talks about, wouldn’t be so bad. But when it finally happened, at about 15 years old–in the comfort of our little home w family and pearl feeling ZERO stress, fear, or pain, eating all of her fav foods—no amount of perfect-pearl-parenting could have prepared me to be as wrecked as i’ve been. it’s been about 5 months—152 days to be exact—that i felt my pearl’s hair on my face; that i heard her bark right next to my ears; that i looked down while we walked to see her looking and smiling back at me. i weep as i write this bc i STILL cry SO much. every single day. sometimes i wonder if i’m defective and how i even have tears left in my head. but they just keep coming like I’ve never cried before. i think there’s something to be said for having an animal who has always been by your side, when you were all alone, during the more horrifically painful and stressful seasons of your life. pearl was that dog, always there for me. i never truly felt alone. but now i am. and i’m lost without her. is she lost without me too? looking for photos to post here, it reminded me that the photos i have of her is what i have—i’m not getting any new ones. it’s those little things that send me reeling like no other for a few minutes. if you’ve read this far, thank you. i comment a lot of people’s posts going thru the same stuff bc it helps me to support others and i also don’t feel so alone. so hopefully this helps someone not feel so alone either. the photos i chose of pearl this time are from so many different stages of her wonderful life, including looking out the window on a flight back home to california and just minutes before she passed eating all her favorite foods. pearl, i don’t know where you are right now but i hope you know your mommy misses you baby girl. please wait for me okay? death doesn’t feel that scary anymore if it means we’ll be together again. i love you to the moon and back my angel pie. xx submitted by /u/_metallicabreath_ to r/pitbulls [link] [comments]

Restaurants with amazing food but not squishy seating?
Hi, I'm on the hunt for restaurants in Brisbane (CBD / Valley / Newstead area and surrounds) that have great food, but without the squishy feeling? I have been to a few restaurants that are great but it feels like when you're out on a date you get to overhear other people's conversations also? Not fussed on cuisine, but it would be great to have a bit of space while enjoying the food, service and conversation with my partner. Thanks for your recommendations! EDIT: Flexible with budget. I think I accidentally ruined my life :') (trigger: possible ED)
My mother makes me go to the doctor every 3 months to check on my weight because apparently 130 pounds is extremely obese. All those 130 pounds really do is give me a slightly round stomach and squishy thighs. I don't look fat. Anyways, since I despise exercise my mother often crashes out on me in the middle of the street. This time it was during one of these doctor appointments because my weight went up 5 pounds. I was genuinely devastated because I had worked hard to get my weight down. I exercised daily when she wasn't around, and I barely ate unless I was really hungry. Even then, I always purged the food by throwing up. I was that scared of gaining weight. My friends would help me by inviting me out on runs, and I found myself actually enjoying it. When the doctor came in she looked proud. Turns out that those 5 pounds were MUSCLE. My mother finally fucking shut up like she should have a long fucking time ago. Anyways, I had always thought that any gain would mean fat gain, so I have just ruined my eating habits. I can't eat food anymore without feeling big, and the habit of purging refuses to go away. Personally I feel like my mother is the one to blame. She's the one that calls me fat every chance she gets. submitted by /u/BlueyTherian to r/sillyboyclub [link] [comments]

My[20f] boyfriend [22m] keeps pushing a firm boundary I've made about my dog. How can I reiterate that I'm not bugging on this?
I am NOT OOP, OOP is u/thatoneweirdgirl28 Originally posted to r/relationship_advice My[20f] boyfriend [22m] keeps pushing a firm boundary I've made about my dog. How can I reiterate that I'm not bugging on this? Editor's note: IVDD = Interverteral Disc Disease Trigger Warnings: possible animal neglect Original Post: May 11, 2025 I (20f) and my boyfriend (22m) are almost a year and a half into our relationship. This is both of our first serious relationships so we're both figuring this out together. We both have our own dogs. I got my dog Lucky, a year and a half old mini dachshund shortly after we started dating. My boyfriend just got his french bulldog (about the same age as Lucky) a couple days ago. Now if you know anything about dachshunds you know their backs are very VERY fragile. They need ramps to go up and down couches, beds, etc to avoid back injuries (which can be very serious with them). Stairs are a absolute NO GO. That is a hill I will die on. I'm ashamed to say that I was not as educated with my previous dachshund, and he paid the price for that. I swore once I was ready and got another dachshund I would give them the best chance to have a happy, healthy, long, and pain free life. I've been talking about buying a ramp for my boyfriend's house, specifically his bedroom because his bed is very tall. My boyfriend said just wait until he gets his dog and he'll by one since it's going in his house. It said fine and waited. Now that the time has come to actually get one he's started talking about buying stairs. Tonight when we were sitting down with his parents, his mom brought up the stairs and asked when he was going to by them. It's also important to note that I've explained to both my boyfriend and his parents why I do not want stairs, and why it's not the safest option. His parents refuse to listen to me. When I looked at him he said "I can't afford it." Which is fine! I'll save up and buy them or we can split the cost. When I asked him about it later he just said "it's cheaper" I said "it might be cheaper but it's not safer for him" he told me I was "pulling strings." at that response. This is not the the first time we've had this conversation. We had it multiple times and I thought he finally understood but I guess not. We've also not had our first fight yet and I just know if I can't get us to see eye to eye it's going to turn into a full blown argument over something as stupid as a ramp. This is not something I'm willing to budge on. I just don't know what else I can do other than shove and article in his face on dachshunds and their spines and why stairs aren't safe to get him to FINALLY understand. I'm so frustrated beyond words and I just feel so defeated. Edit: Since some people are ripping me in the comments about getting a dachshund. My dog is a rescue! I did not get him from a breeder. There are are full blooded dogs that are in rescues and shelters that need homes too. Hell there is a rescue specifically for dachshunds and bulldogs! I was not going to get a dachshund originally but I found him on his rescue website and fell in love. The rest is history. As for my boyfriend and his dog I can't speak for him. I warned him about the health riskes frenchies have and he said he can handle it. Relevant / Top Comments OOP responds to a comment regarding her dog's backgroun before she got him OOP: My dog is actually from a rescue and was rehomed. Just because we like our breed doesn't mean they aren't rescued. And that that is a very arrogant response. They're are plenty of animals in a shelter that I would gladly take that are disabled that also can't "walk up stairs" because they're truly disabled. My dog can walk upstairs just fine it's going down is where he can get injured. Please do your research before you say something. Commenter 1: Sorry, why does the dog HAVE to have a ramp for the boyfriends bed? He can't just have a dog bed on the floor? Or stay home with the Mom? OOP: He's been getting on my boyfriend's bed since I got him and yes I asked if it was ok first before I put him up. He needs the ramp because my boyfriends bed is very high and jump off the bed causes a lot of impact on his spine and can cause injury. I was going to buy ramp but he told me no that he would buy it. It's my dog, and it's not my parents responsibility to watch him which is why I bring him. However he has been staying home recently until both my boyfriend and I are ready to introduce to the two dogs together. Commenter 2: Frenchies are also prone to IVDD, so not only is the ramp better for your dog, but his as well. Your bf is kinda dumb and obviously didn’t do any research before getting a frenchie. If he can’t afford the ramp how is he eventually going to afford all the vet bills that come with that genetic fuck up of a dog OOP: I did not know this. I'm going to bring this up to him lol get today because I don't think he does either. OOP on what her doxie's true origin is OOP: I really truly don't know the true origin of my doxie. He was a rescue! His previous owners put him on craigslist as a pup before his rescue got a hold of him. I assumed he came from a breeder but I don't know if it was a good one or not Commenter 3: Ok, I know you want to believe that you can make him understand, because he’s acting like he doesn’t get it. But he does. He knows because you’ve told him. He just doesn’t care.   Update: May 15, 2025 (four days later) I'm not sure if anyone wants this update but I'm putting it out here. So me and my boyfriend talked. I brought up the ramp again a few nights ago after I read through comments and took it all in. I once again explained it to him. I told him all about IVDD and how dangerous it is for Dachshunds and Frenchies because I realized I never used the actual term before (my fault). It was mainly about the money. After he took his Frenchie to the vet for his first appointment the other day we found out he needs a minor surgery, as well as several antibiotics among a few other things that were quite expensive. Because of those things the vet told us his Frenchie most likely lived his life outside until my boyfriend got him. Very upsetting but he is living his best pampered life indoors now. I was found on Amazon some squishy stairs that are pretty much a ramp that I was comfortable having the dogs use short term until we could get a better ramp later on. However, my boyfriend said no! You wanted a ramp. We're gonna get a ramp. So he did some digging and found used ramp in really REALLY good shape for like $20 and it's the perfect height. I was either just going to buy a new ramp or the squishy stairs but he ended up finding the used ramp and surprised me with it later that day. His Frenchie is having the time of his life having the ramp zoomes and it's the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life. As for my dachshund he has not been able to use it yet! We've only done one public meeting with the dogs so far and it went pretty good! Once the dogs get more comfortable with each other then I'll bring my dachshund to my boyfriends house and he'll bring his Frenchie to my house, but for now we're only doing public meetings with the dogs. Relevant / Top Comments Does OOP has a ramp at her place for her dog? And getting one for her BF's house OOP: I do have on at my house! Which is why I was happy it pay for it because it was my dog that needed it originally Commenter 1: This was never a boundary because you never enacted any consequences of not meeting the need. Like everyone said, now that it’s his need it’s been met. This is not a W. OOP: That's definitely clear to me now. I need to be better about setting because it did not go how I wanted it too. But I am still learning! What kind of infection was the Frenchie having? OOP: He has some sort of minor eye infection, a good bit of heart worms, and pretty bad stomach problems. If he eats the wrong thing he can't keep his food down, so he's on a strict diet right now. I don't remember exactly what everything was, I wasn't at the appointment with him. Other than that he's perfectly healthy. Plus he really letting his personality shine now. You wouldn't believe how much sass that little body has Commenter 2: Omg - if he has heartworm he is NOT healthy. Treatment is expensive when done correctly, can be deadly when not done. OOP: I miss heard him! His Frenchie has hookworms! That is my fault! Commenter 3: He insisted on a dog breed that has expensive medical needs. He was intransigent on getting the dog ramp because it was too expensive when it was something you needed but immediately went into problem-solving mode when it was something he needed for his dog. Please do not bring a tuna fish sandwich with you on the plane and eat it on a flight.
Had this happen to me on a flight and feel scarred for life. Passenger next to me was stoked to eat this huge overloaded homemade tuna fish sandwich in vintage Tupperware that was spilling over through 2 pieces of soggy white bread. He licked his fingers between each bite and slowly savored it like it would be his last meal. The squishy sound of biting through wet canned meat was torture to my ears. Took him about an hour to make it through this monstrosity of a sandwich. I was tempted to pull a DB Cooper and jump out the emergency exit. Please plan ahead and eat your fragrant homemade meals before the flight starts. Give me bare feet passengers and crying babies all day over this shit. Edit: can’t believe how much this post has blown up. Interesting to see what other icks people have with food while flying. Not sure my plea has helped and honestly probably hurt my case. Many Redditors have said they are now gonna pack twice as many tuna sandwiches to share with those around them next time they fly. My nightmare grows!!!! Hahaha! Thanks for all who contributed and shared stories. Remember…we are all in this thing together. submitted by /u/w000dsyOwl to r/delta [link] [comments]

I [24F] had accidentally killed my boyfriend’s [28M] bird and had said hurtful things to him... I’m afraid that he’s going to hate me
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Throwaway1284930753 I [24F] had accidentally killed my boyfriend’s [28M] bird and had said hurtful things to him... I’m afraid that he’s going to hate me. TRIGGER WARNING: graphic descriptions of a birds death, abuse, animal abuse MOOD SPOILER: rage and horror Original Post Oct 14, 2018 Copy of the post I am going to say this now: in no way do I believe that my actions were justified. I hadn’t meant to do what I did, and I feel incredibly guilty about the whole situation. I feel like there is no way I can ever apologize to him in a way that would be adequate enough to atone for my actions. We’ve been dating for 3 years, but have known eachother for about 5 or so years. We had always been close friends. He’s had depression / anxiety for a majority of his life due to his childhood. Our relationship was, more or less, perfect. I have always tried my best to be understanding due to some strange habits / attachments that he uses to cope with his illnesses. While his attatchments were somewhat unhealthy (in my own opinion), as long as it helped him to cope, I tried not to mind it much. One of his weird attatchments was a bird. He had never been addicted to drugs / bodily harm, but had found comfort in this cockatoo that he said that he had since highschool. I had never liked birds much, but he says that doing stuff like birdwatching had always helped him to take his mind off of any intrusive thoughts. His bird wasn’t aggressive or anything, but I wasn’t a big fan of it. He had - what I considered to be - an unhealthy attatchment to the bird, but I had never said anything to him about it. These past couple of months, our relationship had been a little rocky. I’m not sure what happened, but he started to avoid me, and would clam up whenever I asked him what was wrong. (For context, we live together). This had happened before, but never to this extent / time period. I began to wonder if I had done something wrong or hurt his feelings somehow. He had explained before that sometimes he’s just “get like this” for no reason and he assured me that it would ‘always pass’. It normally would, but this time, I wasn’t too sure. It had gone on for too long. My boyfriend works from home, and I had the day off. He was in his office doing whatever the hell he does with that damn bird. I swear, he pays more attention to the bird than he does to his own girlfriend. At one point, I went into his office and locked us both inside, demanding that he tell me what the problem is. Bad idea, probably. He hates being cornered, and I knew that and decided to use that against him. He asked for me to unlock the door and to leave and that he’d talk to me later / in the living room. I refused, once again demanding that he tell me what’s wrong, and if he didn’t, I’d break up with him. I feel like it was kind of low of me to corner him and threaten him, essentially forcing him to share something that he wasn’t comfortable sharing at the time, but that thought didn’t cross my mind at that time. I feel terrible, but all I wanted at that time were answers. We had gotten into a heated argument (although one-sided. Admittedly, it was just a slew of insults on my end, and then he started to clam up and the bird ended up stealing his attention once more). I just about had it with him ignoring me to pay attention to his bird and - in the heat of the moment - told him just that. I clearly remember telling him “just date the damned bird since you obviously love it more than you love me”. He tried telling me that it wasn’t true but I guess I wasn’t having it and the end result was him pushing me out the way to unlock the door, and him leaving the house. I don’t know where he went but I didn’t care. I went to the guest room (as we had a shared bedroom that I did not want to be in at that moment) and I remember crying my eyes out. It was 3 in the morning and he still wasn’t back. I had trouble sleeping and was worried about his wellbeing. During the argument, I had said some things that were based upon a few of his many insecurities, and had said some awful things to him that I didn’t actually feel about him. I had tried texting him and calling him, but he had left his phone at home. His car was still there but I have no idea where he could have gone. I had left my room with the intention of getting a snack, and then waiting for him to come home to offer an apology. The bird was usually noisy at night, but the house was almost unnervingly quiet. I didn’t pay any mind to it. I was walking down the hallway (it was dark) when I felt something under my foot. I heard this crunching / snapping, squishy sort of sound. Sleep deprived and groggy, it took me a while to actually realize what had just happened. I moved back, felt along the walls for the light switch to the lights in the hallway. I hadn’t turned it on previously because it was bright, and I had been in the dark guest room all night. I figured that there was no hazard, but I forgot that my boyfriend was the one that put the bird in its cage every night. My boyfriend wasn’t there... I felt sick. Like genuinely, actually sick. The first thing I did when I realized what I had done was cry. The bird was still moving. I hadn’t killed it, but I’m guessing that it’s spine snapped or something, because it was on the floor, kind of sprawled out, struggling to move. I didn’t know what to do. I ended up putting it in an empty delivery box and sticking it in the closet in the hallway. Sure, I hated the bird, but I didn’t want it to die or anything, much less kill it myself. I hadn’t meant to do it. tl;dr: got into an argument with my boyfriend, accidentally killed his bird That was last night. It’s now late in the evening and my boyfriend called to apologize to me for storming out. He told me that he was at his friends house and staying for another night, that he’d be home in the morning. He asked me if I could feed the bird for him. I just told him ‘okay’. I really don’t know how to tell him. What if he thinks that I did it on purpose? A majority of that argument was spurred by, and spent bashing his obsession with the thing. I said all those hurtful things, and he felt that it was necessary to apologize to me. I feel horrible, like something less than human, and I don’t know what to do. He’s already in a bad place mentally, and this just puts the icing on the cake. How do I tell him? What do I even say to him? How can I ever make this up to him? RELEVANT COMMENTS OOP How else was I supposed to get him to listen to me? We live together, yet I rarely see him around the house. He'd avoid me, and I don't know why. Is it wrong to want answers when he's behaving weirdly?? He'd just stay cooped up in his office all day and night with the dumb bird and I'd only see him when he left to get food. People are assuming that he'd be better off if he broke up with me. Why? I'm not an abuser, and 1 am the only support system he has left. I technically didn't "lie" to him, either, so. AgnikaKaieru You're a horrible psychopath, maybe that's why he'd be better TooOldForThisShit642 Would you feel comfortable is he locked you in a room and demanded you do something he wanted? Not likely. OOP Well, I wouldn't avoid him for a month without explanation, SO if it all boils down to it, it's really his own fault that his bird is dead, not mine. ~ OOP I will tell him, eventually, when he asks about it. I'm not exactly sure how to bring up the fact that I accidentally killed his bird. ** a_wild_venonat** You call him right the fuck now, is what you do, LetsMakeCrazySyence You're hiding it from him. On purpose. Because you know he won't stay with you if you say what happened. OOP He'll stay with me either way. He has no choice in the matter. Other than the dumb bird he has no one else that supports him like I do. Unless he wants to die depressed and lonely, he'll stay with me. That's not my concern. I just want him to understand that it was an accident entirely, so I'm not sure why you're jumping to conclusions. ~ WonderfulAtmosphere You got jealous of a bird, wanted to control his relationship with his bird and neglected to care for it while he trusted you with it. Congrats, you need mental help, OOP I didn't want to "control" his relationship with the bird. I just felt like he was too attatched to it. I felt it was unhealthy for him to be so obsessed with a bird that was going to die sooner or later (as he had it for a long time). I wasn't 'jealous'. Is it a sin for a girl to want her boyfriend to pay attention to her?? flyingmotorbike Cockatoos live for 30+ years. They also require almost 24/7 care and what we was doing was 100% normal for cockatoo owners. They are one of the most demanding birds for care taking. You would know this if you talk to him about his hobby but it doesn't seem like you care much about him in the relationship. You're more worried about him hating you than how he's going to feel about losing his bird he could've had decades more with. Edit: They actually live around 50 years, OOP Even when he wasn't taking care of the bird, he'd do weird things like talk to it. I mean, I get why people talk to dogs, but a bird?? We live together but I still felt like he was giving the bird more attention than he was giving his own girlfriend. Whispurrr_ur Grow the fuck up. He loved his bird! Haven't you ever loved anything beyond yourself? People talk to their pets, how is this such a strange concept to you, are you a sociopath OP? You're too immature and mentally unstable to be in a relationship. I hope he realises this and fucking runs! update Oct 15, 2018 Copy of the update I’d like to start this off with a ‘thanks for absolutely nothing’. I posted to this site for advice, but got nothing but criticism and false accusations. I figured that you guys would appreciate an update, and are satisfied with the end result. :/ He came home this morning (or later in the morning of the incident, as it had happened at 3am... He came home around 8 or 9am). We talked for a bit about what happened, and he seemed to be fine for the most part. He was hesitant in asking if I had fed the bird like he had asked me to. I told him no, and he asked me why. I told him that I couldn’t find the bird. He gave me a weird look. I’m not even sure what kind of expression it was (sorr of like a grimace) and he asked me again where the bird was. I told him the story of how I had accidentally stepped on it and he immediately told me that it was bullshit. He told me that the bird was trained to return to his cage after sunset, and that it wouldn’t just lie down in the middle of the hallway like that at 3 in the morning (much like you guys said... except I was telling the truth). I had never seen him so upset, or angry for that matter. He accused me of killing the bird on purpose, which is something I didn’t do, and something that no one believed me when I say that was an accident, for whatever reason. He asked me to leave the house, and I refused, as I didn’t know if he was planning to hurt himself or something if I left. He locked himself inside his office and he won’t talk to me. I fear for his wellbeing, and I won’t be there to stop him if he tries to do anything drastic. tl;dr: boyfriend is convinced that i killed the bird on purpose (which i didn’t). has been in his office all morning to this afternoon and i can’t get him to talk to me / come out How do I get him to listen to me ?? A majority of you are convinced that I killed the bird on purpose and that I’m abusive even though that is not the case. It was an accident, and I am being misunderstood. I just don’t know what to do. I sometimes offer to let random people hold my baby
Title sounds concerning, I know. And I don’t just walk up to random strangers and offer up my kid, so let me explain. But since having a baby (currently 6mos) I have noticed how much joy seeing a smiling baby brings people. No matter where I am, I notice others noticing my baby. Could be someone walking in the neighborhood, the checker at the grocery store, servers in restaurants. A few weeks ago I was on a trip in another state. Stopped at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant for lunch and sat inside the dive bar next door while I waited for my food. Had baby in tow, and bartender who must have been in her mid-70s was the kindest woman. Took to giving my baby alllll the attention and chatting/gushing to her. After a few minutes of this tells me it’s probably been 30 years since she held a baby and wished me congratulations as she turned away. I said to her, “that’s a long time, would you like to hold her?” This woman spun around and couldn’t believe I was serious. “Really?!” Of course I was serious and let this woman pick up my daughter and continue to dote on her. She handed her back to me after a few minutes and said thank you. I think it made her day. It made mine too. Have since offered a few other people I have shared little moments with to hold my daughter and each time the person is thrilled and so taken aback, but never declines the offer to hold a squishy baby :) submitted by /u/Temporary_Cry8110 to r/BenignExistence [link] [comments]

WIBTA if I tell my girlfriend who’s working on losing weight I prefer her old body
I (31m) met my girlfriend Rose (25f) when she tutored my nephew and we’ve been together for 3 years and moved in together a year ago. Rose is someone who loves food. I enjoy taking her to new places to eat and exploring exotic ingredients/recipes together. She is also active in the arts and crafts communities and always offers the nicest advice and whenever I read through the comments I could just feel how she made those strangers’ days. I think I will never find another one like her. She is the kindest, sweetest person and all my friends and family love her - even my nephew who was a demon to all his previous tutors liked and worked well with Rose. Rose is 5’8” and weighted about 170-180 lbs for most of the time we’ve been together. She is a bigger girl but to me she’s just the most beautiful woman ever. I love hugging her full figured and soft body. I enjoy playing with the little extra flesh on her upper arms and stomach and the plumpness of her cheeks. It also doesn’t hurt that her womanly curves are super curvy and full. One of my favorite things was seeing her in a bathing suit for our weekly swim - she was just so huggable. I’m 6’1 and around 190 - 200 lbs for reference. Ever since Rose became a grad student, she had more time to herself and started going to the gym more. She also decided to change the way she eats. We still go on restaurant dates and cook exotic recipes together but she ate less and often had half her food put in to go boxes and our new recipes tend to lean toward a healthier side now. Still delicious and exciting…but it just doesn’t feel the same. Rose is now around 140 lbs and she is very happy and tells me she sets 125 lbs as her goal. She also told me she got a lot of compliments from everyone. Her smile was just so sunny I could do nothing but tell her I was proud of her. On one hand, I love how much bolder she’s become but on the other hand I just miss her old body. Where her flesh was soft and squishy is now firm. I just really miss all that. I told myself I’m being crazy and selfish. I love Rose and if she decides to change herself and she loves it and is happy, I should support her no matter what. From the health perspective, Rose was a bit overweight before and she’s now heading in a healthy direction, all the more reason to encourage her to stay healthy and fit the way she currently is. I feel like a self-centered piece of garbage for wanting Rose to stay round and soft just for my pleasure. It’s her body and her choice, after all, and I can’t see any happy ending out of this hypothetical discussion. I didn’t dare ask anyone about this for fear of being seen as crazy. Still, do I have a say in this? WIBTA if I talk to Rose about how I prefer her round and plump? submitted by /u/Throwaway_lovingbf to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
