Looking for sticky note alternative, please help!
I like taking notes in my books to keep track of plot points and important nuances. I currently use sticky notes, but I wish the backing was fully adhesive. I tried washi tape, but the brand I tried was not pencil or pen friendly. I tend to snag and fold sticky notes on accident, and I’d like to avoid that. I also don’t want to mark up my books in case I need to resell them. If anyone more experienced with stationery than me could help me out, that would be awesome. This is a new world for me, and I'm excited to dive in :) TL;DR: Looking for something like sticky notes with full adhesive backing for note taking in books. Post-it notes, sticky notes, highlighting, paper clips, staples, etc. and the scan process
My understanding when an application is sent via FedEx or UPS it goes to the digitization center in Nova Scotia, where it gets scanned, probably run through OCR, and then goes into some sort of electronic application queue. I'm assuming the officials who review the applications are only looking at the scanned images? If it's anything like any other multi-page scanner I've used, all the staples, paper clips, binder clips, etc. would need to be removed. Any post-it or sticky notes would likely be removed in advance depending on their procedures, or if they are sent through the scanner there is a chance they might cause a jam or get stuck on a roller somewhere. Highlighting is another issue- depending on the equipment, scanning software, and color of highlighter used, it might affect how legible the highlighted text is, or even in the worst case make is unreadable (like a redaction). Darker highlighting could also make the OCR process less accurate. Some documents like hand-written censuses and marriage or birth register books printed off of Ancestry or Family Search just cry out for some sort of annotation to help find the appropriate ancestor. I'm using a PDF program to make a thin red box around the relevant family in the census record and then a red arrow off to the side pointing to the line with the key ancestor. I think this accomplishes two things - it will change what was a black & white document into an obviously color document, and it will point out the relevant person(s) without causing a scanning problem or obscuring any text. I am not planning on adding annotations to official certified documents. I am planning on using a cover sheet for each ancestor with a list of documents for them. I am planning on only using one binder clip to hold the whole stack of papers together in a legal-sized envelope so all the legal sized papers stay flat and ready to scan, with the G0 cover sheet on top followed by their documents, G1, G2, etc. Does this seem reasonable? I'm a bit perplexed at the people using sticky notes or flags on supporting documentation when this is a process that involves scanning. I'm wondering if the employees who have to handle these incoming application are swearing every time they get a packet filled with sticky notes? Anyone have other ideas on how to make this as easy and fool-proof for the digitization center staff as possible - and produce a result which gets the right information highlighted for the staff that review the applications? submitted by /u/Born_Strawberry303 to r/Canadiancitizenship [link] [comments]
