What are we doing for strength training?
I’ve been running for a few months now and occasionally experience soreness, and I definitely want to reduce the risk of injury. I want to get into strength training but am curious if there are other options, like types of yoga or different fitness activities/classes that can help prevent injury and that anyone has tried. submitted by /u/bs000000 to r/XXRunning [link] [comments]

PSA - They're right about strength training.
34 F. I went from being 300 lbs since Dec. to 250 lbs on 2.5 dose of Zepbound. Long long time ago I lifted weights before starting Zepbound. I hate working out because I don't like being sweaty however I would still do it occasionally. When starting my weight loss the dr. Estimated with this machine that I had 80lbs of muscle. After losing 50lbs idk I prob lost so muscle mass. I went to the gym today because I'm like I got to do it or it's going to be bad and I'm going to be weak and flabby. I could barely do half of what I used to at 300 lbs. PSA, please don't neglect strength training while losing weight. submitted by /u/TouristParticular449 to r/Zepbound [link] [comments]

Beginners to strength training - start slow and build up.
I constantly see beginners posting about strength training routines that seem more appropriate for people a few years into their strength training journey. A beginner doesn't need, and won't even see benefits from, 4-6 day splits like ULUL / PPLUL / PPLPPL / etc. In your first 6-12 months, you will get an insane amount of muscle stimulus even from just 1-2 basic sessions per week, it does not take much for you to effectively max out your muscle stimulus. At the same time, as a beginner, your recovery capability is extremely low, so you need a lot more recovery days. And recovery days are not just for your muscles, but also your tendons or joints to recover and adapt and strengthen. Don't screw around with tendon health - it can take months up to a full year for tendon injuries to heal. Just start out with 1-2 days a week of full-body work. (In general, if you're under 40, you can probably start at 2x per week, and if you're over 40, you'll probably do better starting at 1x). As your recovery improves, you can move up to 3x per week. A beginner also doesn't need to do a huge variety of exercises to isolate and target every muscle in every possible way. Again, this is more something for you to worry about in year 2 or year 3. Beginners will get a strong growth stimulus again from almost anything. You're much better learning 6-10 movements, mostly compound, and work on doing those well. Just make sure to hit each basic movement pattern weekly (ideally twice per week): Horizontal push, vertical push, horizontal pull, vertical pull, squat, hip hinge. If you're doing 3 days per week, this means you can do 4 different exercises per session and hit each movement twice. And that's great. You can always build up later and add more later, after you get the basics down. Don't be too quick to go down the road of giving yourself extra fatigue, extra wear and tear on your tendons and joints, for nearly zero additional gain. Most of the content you see from fitness influencers isn't for you, it's for people in the 2-5 years of experience range. It can be interesting to think about for the future, but it's not something you should be focused on right now. Build the fundamentals first. submitted by /u/AssiduousLayabout to r/beginnerfitness [link] [comments]

Lost 100lbs using mounjaro over 2 years - and I’m now happily 2 months sober and free of nicotine! I am feeling so much better and happier in myself - I’m so much more confident, level headed and driven. How to start strength training if you're very weak as a beginner?
I (18F) never really been athletic and more on the chubby side all my life. I'm extremely weak I get exhausted pretty fast even while just normal running. My posture is also extremely horrible I have no coordination in my body but I really want to improve these things and also mainly build up my strength. How can I start with my journey when I'm at such a low?Someone told me to first start with home workouts for a bit and then join the gym? I'm not really sure about that advice but please help me out. 83 omnivores and vegans who had maintained their diet for at least 6 months were placed into resistance training or control groups for 16 weeks. Training significantly improved muscle strength regardless of diet type, suggesting that a vegan diet did not compromise adaptations to strength training.

Strength training: what's the bare minimum?
Context: a year ago I started running consistently 4-5 times per week and for the past 6 months with a structure of 1 speed session, 1 long run and 1 tempo that sometimes gets mixed with the long run. The rest easy for an average of 60km per week. I enjoy training for the sake of it, but recently found Daniel's VDOT table with levels that I'm using as some tangible milestones. I'm a solid level 4 and almost 5 for the 5-10k distances (my current focus). Up till now I have avoided strength training because I do a lot of bouldering and mountaineering, and never had any running related pains. However I'm now hitting paces that make me realise some strength training would help. Besides all the running and climbing (my main sport) I have a full time job, so I don't have a lot of time/energy to add strength training. What would you recommend as the minimum amount and type of exercises to add to my weekly schedule to help with the faster paces? submitted by /u/Optimal-Ad-9630 to r/running [link] [comments]

Strength training
Couch to 5k, check! Half marathon, check! Strength training….need some help. So I’m not ready to commit to training for a full, I really enjoy the distance of a 10k to a half. I work a good 50-55 hours a week on my feet so I feel like I’m already stretching my free time without it being a hindrance but I really want to start incorporating regular strength training. To be honest I’ve never lifted a weight seriously in my life so I’m starting from scratch. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? I’d prefer to not have to get a gym membership mostly to avoid the extra time if it’s things I can do in my garage but I can also make it work if that would be the best possible option. Like do I need to be bench pressing and using them fancy machines or can I really get useful strength training with a couple of dumbells. I’ve seen all the instagram reels that tell you what you want to hear but I would rather hear some real info. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/moist_knux to r/running [link] [comments]

my body changes through the last years. your reminder to not skip the strength training!!
2020 2022 3 &4. 2022 2023 2024 2024 (2 weeks postpartum) 8 & 9. 2025 (today) I’m 5’2 and currently 25 years old. had 2 babies almost exactly 2 years apart. Pre-pregnancy I was around 55 kg and in my first pregnancy I gained 30+ kgs 😳 it was insane but I think a mix of extreme hunger and being very very sedentary plus a bit of depression made the weight skyrocket. Around 10 months postpartum i started tracking calories but only focused on the amount of calories and not the right kind (high protein, low fat etc) so I started losing weight but it wasn’t healthy. 2nd pregnancy I was down to 70 kg when I got pregnant and gained about 8 kg and lost it all within 2 weeks of giving birth. that was a relief as I was really worried id be back to square 1. I didn’t try to eat in a deficit while breastfeeding but tried to make healthier choices. in january this year I started taking my health seriously! I focused on nutrition and fell in love with strength training. I am loving becoming stronger and seeing my body change. I never thought these pictures would see the light of day, and then I’ve been waiting to take my “after” pictures because I feel I’m not at my goal yet either. but I decided to say screw it and share my progress anyway because I’m so proud and happy to be where I am now 🙂 currently I weigh about 59 kg at 26% bf (down from 33% since february and I’d like to get it down more by building muscle, but I’m not killing myself to get there either. I’m in love with the process ☺️ submitted by /u/mostlyveryfrustrated to r/PetiteFitness [link] [comments]

Lifting weights secretes an age-defying myokine that keeps the body youthful. Resistance training boosts a youth-linked protein called CLCF1 finds study in mice. Cardio alone may not trigger CLCF1 in older adults. Strength training can also slow age-related muscle and bone loss.

Eli5: How do apes like chimps and gorillas have extraordinary strength, and are well muscled all year round - while humans need to constantly train their whole life to have even a fraction of that strength?
It's not like these apes do any strenuous activity besides the occasional branch swinging (or breaking). Whereas a bodybuilder regularly lifting 80+ kgs year round is still outmatched by these apes living a relatively relaxed lifestyle. submitted by /u/captaintontolou to r/explainlikeimfive [link] [comments]
