Deciding on a GFC v2 camper or a 2023 Topo Topper mesa.
Hey everyone I'm deciding on pulling the plug and buying a camper for my tundra and I'm a little torn between these two campers. The GFC would be great for my height since I'm "6'2" since the bedding is 90x50. The GFC is at a good price and pretty much it's just the camper that comes with it for 6k. The topo topper is apparently 77.5 x 50 I think for the bedding(is apparently heated) but it comes with 300w solar panels and the sides of the camper do not open. It comes with awning that will need to be repaired as well. He also offered his decked system which would bring the price of it to around the same price as the GFC. I do live in the PNW and it'll stay on my truck for awhile. Just debating on a built out one with a shorter bed or a bare bones one I can build out. Does anyone have experience with either of these that I can weigh my options because I have no friends that like to camp out here and I never got to see one up close to see what I like and dislike and would definitely appreciate y'all's opinions. I mainly would be camping on the weekends and might take a week off to camping and or drive to Colorado to see my friends. I did try to post this in another overlanding group and it got removed and idk why. I'm just wanting opinions on this since I don't want to blow money and regret it later you know. submitted by /u/Fenris_zero81 to r/overlanding [link] [comments]

Questions Regarding Truck Campers
Just joined the club! Got a 2023 Lightning Pro ER with a max tow package. I love the truck so far! It's the best vehicle I've owned hands down. One of the things I'm looking into is getting a slide in truck Camper, I don't want a topper because I want to be able to still haul stuff in the bed when I'm not camping. Some of the options I've looked at are Northern Lite 610, Cirrus 620 and four wheel pop up. I know the pop ups will do the best range wise, but haven't seen much on how traditional hard sided campers effect range. I'm wondering who out there are rocking truck campers and what kind of range loss they're seeing? Any other types of slide ins I should be looking into? submitted by /u/ThinState to r/F150Lightning [link] [comments]

Hello Fam! Any ideas why or how to fix this water coming inside my camper topper?
I had to remove the topper part recently for a repair in the bed of the truck. Me and the mechanic put it back and then I noticed it was leaking. We took it off, added some adhesive that suppose to be waterproof to all the seams and careful put it back in place. However I noticed its getting wet in the areas I highlighter in red Any idea why this might be happening or ideas how to fix? I have never had this issue before until we removed the topper part, but we never touched the windows so not sure why it's leaking from the window now. PVC Bed and Water Tank Combo
There was post here recently with a PVC bed platform where I mentioned turning it into a water tank. More interest was expressed, so I thought I'd post up mine. I built this a few years ago when I had a basic topper on my truck and needed to save space. It's 1.5in PVC with furniture (4 end) and regular hardware store joints (T's and L's). For the first year or so I just used it as a platform as I adjusted sizing for most comfort (height mostly). I also went through a couple of wedge campers during that time and settled on the Vagabond Drifter (which is awesome!) that I full time in now. After about a year I sealed it up and used it as a water tank as well. I've been using it for over a year now as a water tank and it works great with no issues. Clean water on demand. I went through a couple of pumps (Amazon) and currently have one where the spigot folds down. The tank holds about 5 gallons and capacity can be increased by adding more vertical or horizontal pipes. I usually remove the pump when traveling (but not always) and close the tank with a screw on cap. If I was to make some improvements, I would probably add a second drain hose and maybe have one of the vertical pipes be clear (they're expensive) so you can see the water level. submitted by /u/ADVmedic to r/VanLife [link] [comments]

Will this camper/topper sit flush with my cab? 2000 xtra cab sr5
Hi! I’m hoping someone might know better than me. I found this camper that I want for my truck but not sure it will sit flush on the cab. I called Leer but due to this being such an old model they had no specs. It’s over 1.5 hrs from me so I’m hoping maybe someone would know. It came off an 89 Toyota pickup and the guy selling said it fit his 91 pickup. I know the bed will be fine but I’m talking specifically about where it meets the cab/rear window. Do I need a boot? Is that an easy install? It’s needed cuz my 14.5 year old dog can’t sit very well anymore and I need to build out the bed to try and get a couple more romps with him and his brother🥲 submitted by /u/No_Key10 to r/ToyotaTacoma [link] [comments]

Best ways to remove a wedge-style truck camper (Super Pacific / GFC style)?
Hey all — looking to crowdsource some ideas and real-world experiences here. I’ve got a wedge-style truck camper (Super Pacific X1) and I’m trying to figure out the best way to remove it when needed so I can use the truck bed normally between trips. I’ve come across Rapid Topper (https://rapidtopper.com/), which seems like exactly what I’m looking for conceptually, but I’ve seen a few comments online suggesting they may not be very responsive or possibly not actively in business anymore — so I’m hesitant to commit without hearing from folks who’ve actually used it. I’ve also seen a handful of DIY garage winch / ceiling hoist setups on YouTube and forums. They look a bit more involved to build, but possibly easier and faster once dialed in. Curious what others are doing: Have you found a commercial solution you like for removing a wedge camper? Are garage ceiling hoists the way to go long-term? Any clever DIY setups that are safe and repeatable? Things you wish you’d known before building/buying a system? I don’t need to remove it constantly, but I’d love something that’s safe, repeatable, and doesn’t require 3–4 people every time. Appreciate any advice, photos, or links — thanks! submitted by /u/askallthepeople to r/overlanding [link] [comments]

Tall topper - Is it worth it? Or more of a day to day pain?
Hey all, Considering buying this setup for 1k. It doesn't match my truck color but it's the size topper I've had my eye on ever since I bought my Tacoma 5 years ago. Truck Topper, Ovrlnd Camper, or tonneau? Do you care about MPG?
I just bought a brand new 1500 Sierra diesel and am trying to decide what I want to do for a bed cover and I cant make up my mind. I like the idea of a tonneau cover for its low weight and MPG (vs a camper sticking up above the roof) and I dont really need the extra space of a topper or camper. This is a long post, but if you make it through I'd appreciate any opinions to help me decide what I want... I have a diesel K5 set up with a fridge and stove slide out, solar, starlink, and a bunch of other stuff. It has a winch, air lockers, manual trans and doubler, on board air and welder, and goes absolutely anywhere. But its loud, has old school suspension and steering, and can be fatiguing on long highway drives (I often do 400+ miles a day), and only gets 16-17 mpg. The whole point of the new truck is to be as quiet, comfortable, and efficient as possible. I also only have ~1550 lbs of payload on it so I am somewhat weight conscious. Cost isn't a huge concern; this is a "buy once cry once" situation for me. On the new truck I need to have: Fridge, battery and charging system starlink onboard air water tank Nice to haves: slide out stove under the fridge solar My first thought is a roll up tonneau cover for low weight and minimal drag. I think I can figure out a Starlink mount and a fridge slideout that work with the tonneau. Water and air fit in the bed easily. But there's no good way to do solar, or a stove slide out (not enough height under the tonneau for the fridge and stove to stack, and side by side they'd fill the whole tailgate opening). So I started looking at bed caps (RSI Smartcap, Leer, etc) and they all seem to be 250+ lbs. Then I can do the fridge/stove slide out and easily put solar and the starlink on the top. But for ~300 lbs I can have a barebones Overlnd or GFC style camper... I love the fridge and stove slide in my K5. Easy access to everything, the stove is always connected to fuel, and I can be set up and cooking in less than 60 seconds. I would really like the convenience of a pop up camper or a topper I can sleep in without blowing up pads and fluffing sleeping bags every night and packing up in the morning. But if the camper knocks me down from 25 mpg to 18 or something, I dont think its worth it... Questions: For those of you with pickups, what kind of bed cover/tonneau/camper do you have and would you do it again? If you have a lightweight camper (GFC or Ovrlnd style, under 350 lbs but protruding above the roof height) how much of an MPG hit did you take? How many of you weigh your half ton rigs with all your gear and passengers? I know my K5 is ~1000 lbs over GVW fully loaded, but the frame is plenty strong and its on 3/4 ton axles and custom springs and shocks. I can barely manage a 300 lb camper or topper with 3 passengers and gear while staying under the payload limit for the new 1500, but I'll definitely be overweight with 4-5 people and prefer not to jump right to custom suspension on my new truck for the 2-3 trips per year where I'll have that many passengers... Pics of my K5, mostly for fun but also to give a sense of the stove/fridge setup I like so much: https://preview.redd.it/8boqzyu7sjef1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2b23376aaade7386f096ea1cf874d7832e24064 https://preview.redd.it/xluv3fmzsjef1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79b6954cfe8499b230b3caca786af194b8945402 submitted by /u/BuilderOfDragons to r/overlanding [link] [comments]

My first truck camper - topo topper Rincon
Really stoked. Had it about a week. Picked it up in Ventura, and camped at Faria Beach and Death Valley on our way back to SLC. just came back from a weekend camping/climbing in Lander, WY. It’s simple truck camper and also a luxurious upgrade from our tenting. It takes about 60s to set up (a little extra if I need to level the truck out), and I get to keep the truck bed for truck stuff. We do a lot of weekend adventures in and around Utah, so something simple and light was our desire. Total I think the topper weighs about 430lb? So no need to upgrade our stock suspension since we are well below half of the payload all packed up for a weekend (we keep it simple). I really love that we keep the cooking and water stuff movable since we like to cook near our friends around the camp fire and camp further away for quiet. Excited to see where it takes us! submitted by /u/laurk to r/TruckCampers [link] [comments]

Building topper camper to live in.
I’m building a truck topper camper to live in, and these are my planned purchases. Anything dumb/ or that I should buy different? Is the solar/ battery setup good? Thanks for any advice. submitted by /u/redwingcut to r/TruckCampers [link] [comments]

Removing topper tape adhesive - bought a truck with a camper shell and found out the tape was on the truck. Not using camper shell and want to remove it. Got all I could and even tried Goo Gone. What will get this off?
