Can I have a good recommendation to USB C Charger? Anker? Belkin? UGreen?
I got it! [Update below] I sincerely hate those chargers who share power; it just stops charging and charges again due to power distribution. My requirements were charging the following devices without stopping and restarting while plug-and-unplugged: MacBook Pro (140W[28V5A] being ideal, but it is nice to have ≥70W) Apple Duo Charger (Full speed requires ≥27W) iPad Pro (≥22.5W[9V2.5A]) Spare use ≥70W is suggested I notice that most chargers currently are basically shared between ports, in some ways. Anker's 240W charger with 4 USB-C; it is 140W for C1, dedicated (which is good for my MacBook Pro), but if items 2/3 are plugged/unplugged, it could switch from 100W to 70W/30W or 50W/30W/20W (if 4 were plugged). Not the ideal options to me. Not to mention that it seems it is a fixed AC cable. Getting a longer one/use for travel is not a very good option. Belkin's 200W charger with 4 USB-C; it is shared for C1 & C2, up to 140W. C3 & C4, up to 60W. Presumably if I plug C1 & C3+C4, we will have it 140W & 30W+30W. If adding the 4th device, I guess it is going to be 70W/70W/30W/30W, even the power output almost perfect, but I wonder will it stop and reconnect again? Since 140W to 70W would probably change from 28V5A to 20V3.5A? [This is AI pick] UGreen 500W charger with 5 USB-C & 1 USB-A, when it is using 3 Ports, C1 being 240W, C2 being 100W, C3 being 100W, as soon as there's C4, it is 60W. This seems to be my best pick?(if I don't use the C5 & USB-A.) I asked their customer service, they answer like a chatbot, "It will reconnect" despite it seems it might not from the paper(maybe they are right?) I know Anker & Belkin for a very long time already. But UGreen? I am not sure. Any users? Is it good? It feels dangerous to have these high-power devices, especially since I have one my friend gave me a random unknown 200W GaN with 4 USB-C somehow create a loud pop sound at night (luckily no smoke, no fire, nothing fried). Sorry for long paragraphs :) Appreciate it if anyone shares their own experiences on using the mentioned charger or any better/safe options. Remark: I have 2 ports left on my power extender. And I prefer to have 100V-240V support. ----------------------- Updates: Thanks everyone for answering. I just got Anker's 250W charger with 4 USB-C and 2 USB-A at under ~130 USD in my region. Found some discussion on this charger doesn't renegotiate (or renegotiate super quick that almost not stopping). From my testing, it is almost real. In some cases when I plug multiple high-power devices that require 3+ 20V/28V devices or using USB-A, it can still renegotiate, just it is really quick and not always triggering.(Mode switching will trigger renegotiate.) I didn't use AI Power Mode, Port Priority Allocation Mode, Dual-Laptop Mode, or Low Current Mode. I set myself a custom one (For now) C1: 70W/130W (For MacBook Pro, manually changing it depends on my own workload on the day) C2: 30W (For Apple Duo Charger) C3: 45W (For iPad Pro) C4: 45W (For spare use) USB-A disabled I do notice that if I turn on "Charging Device Identification", my Mac stops charging once it is 100% (both AI / Custom Mode). It stays 0V0A and does not resume. Currently, I am having "Maximum Compatibility" enabled. I hope it doesn't stop. Sorry for the image being too bright for those who use Dark Mode. https://preview.redd.it/cccta696u1lg1.png?width=1260&format=png&auto=webp&s=84a742257b0e5e5557e15b054975426f3a7025d7 submitted by /u/Commapage0 to r/UsbCHardware [link] [comments]

Best travel multiport USB-C charger (at least 65W)??
Would like at least 2-3 USB-C ports. Probably don't need USB-A thankfully. I'm of course hoping the form factor is very small. One other thing, I would like for it to be able to swap out the plug part to just insert the plug adapter for that country. Something like the Minix looks perfect, but I am not sure I trust the reviews on this or the build quality/power delivery. submitted by /u/DoctorQuinlan to r/onebag [link] [comments]

[Self] How practical would it actually be to charge an EV using 61 USB-C ports?
Saw this cursed image floating around Twitter and had to run the numbers. Open to correction. So I counted roughly 61 USB-C ports in that monstrosity. USB PD 3.1, which is the current highest spec, maxes out at 240W per port (48V at 5A). Multiply that out and you get 14,640W or about 14.64 kW. Here's the thing though... that's actually not terrible? Level 1 charging from a wall outlet is only 1.4 kW. Level 2 home chargers run 7-19 kW. DC fast chargers are 50-350 kW. This cursed port array lands right in legitimate Level 2 home charging territory. Charge times assuming 90% efficiency: Nissan Leaf with a 40 kWh battery would take about 3 hours. Tesla Model 3 Long Range at 82 kWh is looking at 6.2 hours. Rivian R1T with that chunky 135 kWh pack, about 10.2 hours. Now the catch. 61 USB-C cables rated for 240W would run you about $2,440. You'd need a dedicated 80A circuit minimum. And the time to plug in all 61 cables would cost you your entire will to live. Conclusion: technically a viable overnight charging solution. The EU would be proud. submitted by /u/piddlefaffle12 to r/theydidthemath [link] [comments]

HOW-TO: USB-C Pass-through for all models
A small, light, travel capable charger for on-the-go gaming is something a lot of people seem to be interested in, myself included so I dove down this rabbit hole and found a solution. Currently there are too many drawbacks to using usb-c that many people may not be aware of, such as the firmare of the laptop hard thottling the GPU to 45w max (2025 model tested) which completely ruins any chance of decent performance. Also the fact that you will be damaging the battery over time, as power is run from the usb-c port to the battery, then battery to the motherboard constantly power cycling the battery. For those using the smart charge feature it also does not respect setting a battery charge limit (ie 80%), buggy and awful. Required Items: - 100w USB-C Charger (Anker a2688-anker-prime-charger-100w-3-ports-gan) - 100w USB-C Dummy Adapter (Slimq usb-c-to-dc-adapter-tip-a-5-5x2-5mm) - Asus Barrel Adapter (2024/2025 Model Only - Slimq asus-mini-port-rog-zephyrus-g14-g16-2024) Ghelper: Set cpu power limit to 15w. Boost is optional, but limit all TDP to 15w, I saw most steady performance with it off. Next, set GPU power limits to the lowest, then also limit the Mhz to 1250 (5070ti) this will effectively limit the GPU to 60-70w giving you max performance and some headroom on your 100w charger. Disclaimer: The way usb-c pd works is by negotiating a voltage/amperage between the device and the charger, you are effectively removing this negotiation by using the adapter. Therefore, YOU MUST control the power limits of the laptop yourself to NOT pull more watts than the charger can provide. You can achieve this by using ghelper and setting CPU & GPU limits. If the power draw goes over what the charger can provide it will power cycle itself and stop providing power. Not the end of the world but your experience will be awful if it's constantly cutting power. Tips: Do not boot up the laptop with the charger plugged in, the power draw will be too high. Also make sure you set a battery charge limit under the current battery level to prevent the usb-c from wasting wattage on charging the battery. If you want full performance and a travel capable charger without any of the fuss you can see my 150w charger thread here where I achieved the 3rd best Time Spy score (g14 5070ti): https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/1n006qg/psa_150w_slimq_charger_is_all_you_need_g14_5070ti/ submitted by /u/tom_vv to r/ZephyrusG14 [link] [comments]

"The Switch is not USB-C compliant, and overdraws some USB-PD power supplies by 300%" by Nathan K(Links in description)
Edit: People keep asking what they can use safely. I am not an expert, nor the Author, only a middle person for this information. Personally I am playing it safe until more information is known and using first party only for power. When it comes to power bricks I can do is offer this quote from the write ups: "Although long in tooth, the Innergie is one of the few chargers that will actually properly power the Nintendo Switch and Dock. It is a USB-PD "v1.0" supply -- meaning it was designed around the 5v/12v/20v levels. (12v was split to 9v/15v in "v2.0".) However, because it was USB-C compliant (followed the darn spec) and robustly engineered, it will work with the Switch even though it came out nearly two years before the Switch was released. (Hooray!) Innergie had the foresight to add 15v as an "optional and extra" voltage level and now it reaps the rewards. (It also has $3k $1mil in connected device insurance, so I can recommend it." TL;DR The USB-C protocols in the Nintendo Switch do not "play nice" with third party products and could possibly be related to the bricking issues. Nathan K has done some testing and the results certainly add to the discussion of console bricking and third party accessories. Nathan K does comment in the third link that attempts to be proprietary about USB-C kind of undermines the whole point of standardized protocols. This quote from the fourth link is sums it up neatly: "The +Nintendo Switch Dock #USB #TypeC power supply is not USB-PD spec compliant. As a result it does not "play nice" with other #USBC devices. This means you should strongly consider only using the Nintendo Switch Dock adapter only with the Nintendo Switch (and Dock). Additionally, it also seems the Nintendo Switch Dock does not "play nice" with other USB-PD chargers. This means you're forced to use a Nintendo-brand power supply." Edit: Found one where he goes even deeper: https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/2CUPZ5yVTRT First part: https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/WDkb3TEgMvf Second part: https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/Np2PUmcqHLE Additional: https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/ByX722sY2yi https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/TZYofkoXUou I first came across this from someone else's Reddit post and can't remember whom to credit for bringing to these write ups to my attention. submitted by /u/Intoxicus5 to r/NintendoSwitch [link] [comments]
