So, i am 21 and i started video editing a year ago mainly because i heard it pays well but then i realised i cant pursue this by keeping money in my mind. then sometimes ago about 2 week i was editing video for some personal work and i started enjoying it......from 2 weeks i am leaning basics especially tutorial on how to operate davinci resolve but then i realised no matter how much i learn the basics if i have got no vision it will not work out then i started finding tutorials of different editing styles on youtube but i got nothing of worth there. so i want to learn video editing but along with every other things like basics of filmmaking , colour grading , how to storyboard , motion graphics . i mean everything that can help in making me a good video editors so my question for you all is: suppose i don't know anything about it how should i approach it from scratch 2.what roadmap should i follow 3.if i started putting serious work in it for a year what should be my expectations , i mean should i treat it just as a hobby or can i consider it a good career. just give me any advice from your experience i am open for it all.......thank you in advance. submitted by /u/Mean_psych to r/VideoEditors [link] [comments]

I'm 19 years old, a semi-beginner with video editing and am wondering how I can build up a portfolio and make some money starting at 0. Also, I've heard a handful of times that starting your OWN YouTube channel can help attract clients and you just post what u want on there essentially to both up your editing game and show you can make and direct a good video. Is that something I should do or is it a waste of time? My girlfriend (19F) wants me (19M) to stop editing videos for female clients?, Posted August 17th, 2021. My brother is an 'influencer'. He also has a ton of friends who is in that business. I edit videos for him and a few of his friends. It is not a full time gig and I don't make a ton of money but It is fun and I enjoy working with them, by know I have a very good relationship with them and can interpret their wants and vision correctly so I rarely have to make major changes to my drafts. It is a pretty good gig while in college as it helps me relax. My girlfriend of 6 months recently came over while I was working and saw that some of the shots featured women styling clothes. Yesterday, she called me and told me that she felt uncomfortable with me working with female clients if I was editing videos like that. I refused and she said that I was being a creep who wouldn't get a real job, which was pretty hurtful. She isn't like this usually. I don't understand what I should do here? I like my clients. They are very chill people who don't make a lot of demands. I think I shouldn't dismiss her feelings. TLDR : I edit videos while in college. Hey everyone, I wanted to share a little milestone in my very first month of freelancing as a video editor, I crossed $1,000 USD. And I did this completely ethical. I only knew how to do simple talking-head style edits, but I focused hard on one thing: consistent outreach. I reached out to ~50 people a day on Reddit and Instagram. I created small sample edits for realtors and influencers. I hopped on quick calls to understand their needs. It was a grind, but it worked. Just two clients brought me over $1k worth of projects in that first month. Takeaway: You don’t need to be a “pro” with years of experience to start earning. Pick a niche, learn the basics well, and get in front of enough people. Consistency > perfection. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss. Received this 150+ year old bar from a special client and modified/added to it. New panels, trim, carvings and turnings to match existing and extend bar wings. Fully disassembled in January and installed in its new home in June. Chemical stripper was applied to every inch of every component before sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding and finally staining sealing and clear coating with toned topcoat. Hand distressing on all new components to match existing look. The bronze metal doors came from a salvage company that took them out of the plaza hotel. We hung on a new mahogany cabinet with velvet wrapped shelves and integrated lighting front and back. One of my favorite projects to date.
