I've just finished my meal planner/grocery list app. Looking for thoughts and ideas.
I just finished my second app and I'm looking for input. I'm still learning dart/flutter and I had to use a lot of help form AI. Sorry. My wife and I always have trouble planning out our week of meals and making a proper grocery list. I made an app called Dinner Duck that helps us out. We just find a link and add it to the app and it breaks down the recipe into title, ingredients, and instructions. Then a user can set a date and add the ingredients to a grocery list. I'm trying to figure out how to have two different devices to sync their planner and grocery list. I want to figure it out without having to force people to log in with Google, Facebook, or whatever. I'm also open to allowing more contributors to my app. submitted by /u/Comfortable-Command2 to r/androiddev [link] [comments]

Long time meal planner first time Mobster
I’ve been meal planning for years and finally decided to try Mob today after getting a bit bored of my usual recipes on MyFitnessPal. Honestly, the photos pulled me in, everything looks so good! For context, I currently use MyFitnessPal for meal planning. I’ve never had issues with it in terms of usability or features it just gets a bit repetitive recipe-wise, which is why Mob seemed like a great alternative. After using both the Mob app and the website… I genuinely don’t know how to feel. Either the platform is really buggy, or I’m completely missing something. I started on the mobile app and immediately hit a snag as it wouldn’t let me sign up for the free trial at first. Closed it down, tried again, and it worked, so not a huge deal but not a great start. Once in, I tried to set up a weekly meal plan. I’m used to a simple setup: create a plan, choose the duration, then fill in meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner for each day). I couldn’t find anything like that in the app. I now think the idea is just to add recipes to a list and that’s your “plan”? Personally, I really prefer a proper calendar-style view. So I switched to the website hoping for a better experience. After a bit of confusion (and accidentally creating/deleting a plan), I finally made one from scratch and started adding recipes. This is where things went downhill. I spent about 2 hours and got nowhere. I picked all my recipes only for them not to show up properly in the plan view. I had to mess around searching and adding them in a really clunky way before they finally appeared. Then I clicked on the shopping list and it was completely empty. Even though all the recipes were clearly in the plan. I tried multiple times, recreating plans, re-adding recipes… same issue. Eventually I created a plan using their recommended recipes, and the shopping list worked fine. But as soon as I swapped a few recipes out boom, empty shopping list again. At this point I was ready to give up. So now I’m stuck wondering: - Is the platform just buggy? - Or am I somehow using it wrong? Even putting the bugs aside, I do feel like some key features are missing. The biggest one for me is sharing. On MyFitnessPal, I can send my meal plan to others in my household, they can see what’s planned for each day, follow recipes, and we share a grocery list where we can tick things off. It makes life so much easier. Mob looks amazing and I want to like it, but right now I’m debating whether it’s worth putting up with the issues just for better recipes, or sticking with something that works flawlessly but is a bit boring. Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience or if I’m just doing something wrong? submitted by /u/PrestigiousAd6749 to r/MobKitchen [link] [comments]

Meal planner with shared grocery list
Hi everyone 👋 I’m an indie Android developer and I recently built an app called Nemu. It was born from a real problem in my family: deciding what to eat during the week and managing a shared grocery list was always messy. So I created a simple app that lets you: • Plan your weekly meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) • Save your own recipes • Automatically generate a grocery list • Share everything with family members • Join a group with a simple invite code • Use it offline, with optional cloud sync The goal is to make meal planning and shopping simple and shared. The app is available in multiple languages (EN, IT, FR, ES). 👉 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rebyc.nemu I’d really appreciate honest feedback on usability and features. Also, if you like the idea, even a comment helps a lot with visibility 🙏 submitted by /u/rebyc_dev to r/droidappshowcase [link] [comments]

Doesn't an ideal weekly meal planner exist?
I'm a novice. I've been educating myself, and the more I learn about this the more overwhelmed I feel. I love food, I love good tasting food, but devising a balanced meal schedule feels impossible. What I mean is a meal schedule that covers all major nutrients/vitamins/macros/whatever, to their recommended quantities, daily and weekly. Specific meals I should be eating to reach it. I know it varies from person to person what amount needs to be achieved, but doesn't there exist anything that can give you a good idea? I'm just tired of feeling like I'm failing or not doing enough. submitted by /u/ApplePaintedRed to r/nutrition [link] [comments]

[APP] ReelRecipes — saves recipes from TikTok/YouTube/Pinterest/Reddit + AI meal planner, looking for feedback
Looking for beta testers for ReelRecipes. Core feature: on Android just hit Share on any food video and send it straight to the app like you'd share to a friend — it extracts the full recipe automatically. Built on top of yt-dlp + Whisper transcription + GPT so it's pulling from description, comments, and audio — not just the caption. Also has a weekly meal planner, grocery list generator, and fridge-aware recipe suggestions. Free PWA — Android installs from Chrome in one tap and share sheet works out of the box, iOS works in Safari. Would really love feedback on the import accuracy, the meal planner UX, and anything that feels broken. reelrecipes.recipes submitted by /u/Environmental_Pen104 to r/alphaandbetausers [link] [comments]

AyeChef - Mealie Power Tools (AI Generated Weekly Meal Plans, Entire Site Scrapers and more)
https://github.com/deepseekcoder2/ayechef Hi all, I finished my AI Generated Weekly Meal Planner. I ended up building like dozens of tools for it, so I might as well call it something closer to MEALIE PLUS. It does quite a lot. I decided to build it all into a local web app for ease of use. I'm pretty satisfied with it now. It runs in a separate docker container so if you don't wanna use it, just remove it. WARNING: Highly recommend you back up your MEALIE recipe collection before you try it. This is in Alpha. Just a warning for all. Here are some of the features... Automated Menu Planning Uses AI (LLM via OpenRouter) to plan 7 days of meals from your recipe collection Plans complete menus — primary dishes with thoughtfully paired side dishes Generates side dish recipes on the fly if your collection doesn't have a match Warns you the night before when a recipe needs overnight prep Personalized: household size, dietary restrictions, cooking constraints, one-shot instructions per session (Note: I didn't include breakfast, because I don't eat breakfast. You could if you wanted, but I always keep breakfast extremely simple cuz usually I'm still full from dinner lol.) Improved Shopping Lists Aggregated across every meal and side dish for the week Quantities combined, pantry staples excluded One button copies the full menu + shopping list to clipboard Bulk Recipe Site Importing Paste a website URL, it discovers all recipes, shows categories, lets you pick Test import 10 first to estimate time Full pipeline: imports into Mealie, parses ingredients, tags cuisine/protein/method, indexes for search Compatible with MOST sites (except for ones that have anti-scraping) Enriches Existing Recipes Tags, parses, and indexes recipes already in your Mealie library Recipes added directly in Mealie become usable by the planner after one-click sync Automatically does a web search and adds relevant missing photos to recipes if it doesn't have one (brave search api) Semantic Search Local embedding model finds recipes by meaning — powers the planner's recipe selection (This would require you to use CLI to mess with it, but it's there) Collection Insights Cuisine distribution, cooked vs. collected stats, collection personality Automated Recipe Maintenance Has a tool that automatically gets rid of duplicate or garbage recipes with no ingredients. Docker container, connects via Mealie API, no changes to your Mealie install. Open source and MIT license. https://github.com/deepseekcoder2/ayechef Edit: Claude Opus 4.5 was used to code a lot of it. Edit 2: I've updated so you don't have hardware requirements. Embedding now runs from Openrouter as the default. Please use it comfortably. submitted by /u/1beer2many to r/Mealie [link] [comments]

Meal planner apps that do grocery lists well, what are you using?
My biggest issue is grocery shopping. I’ll plan meals, but my list is messy and I forget things, then I end up doing extra trips and spending more. I tried using notes, but it gets chaotic fast. Built a 100% free recipes & meal planner app – no ads, no paywalls, lifetime updates
Hey everyone, I’ve built a completely free recipe manager + meal planner app – Receply. No ads, no paywalls, no catch, and everything you get today (and all future updates) stays free. App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/recipes-meal-plan-receply/id6757369631 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zappira.receply What it does: Quick import: Import recipes from websites in seconds, or add your own manually. Recipe organizer: Keep unlimited recipes with photos, ingredients, and step-by-step instructions. Smart meal planner: Plan meals by day, week, or month using a simple calendar view. Shopping list generator: Build a shopping list automatically from your planned meals and check items off as you shop. Custom notifications: Set reminders for meal prep or grocery runs so nothing slips. Filter & search: Find recipes fast by name. I built it because my recipes were scattered across screenshots, notes, and random links - and planning meals (plus making a shopping list) always took way longer than it should. I wanted one simple place to save recipes, plan ahead, and shop faster. I’d love to hear what you think. Feedback, ideas - bring it on. submitted by /u/Pengi123 to r/iosapps [link] [comments]

Where the hell do you keep notes/details in a physical day/week/month planner? Interested in trying the Laurel Denise Scout but i'm stuck!!
I have purchased an absurd number of planners, notebooks, apps over the years to keep myself organized and I can't find anything that works well with my chaotic and unorganized brain. I have literally tried SO many systems and I use fo a bit but then it becomes overwhelming so I stop. And then i become even more disorganized Maybe I'm trying to do too many different things in one place but if I have to go to different apps/notebooks I know i'll forget and just won't. Most recently i've been using Tick Tick and Tody and I need to get back to paper. I'm a SAHM so mostly I'm managing kids schedules, house cleaning tasks daily/weekly/monthly, house projects, errands, meal prep etc One of my main struggles is finding a way to manage tasks/appointment along with notes or details about said task/appointment that I need to remember . (example would be: Monday - call pedi about referral for kid # 2. BUT Where do I put notes from the call?!? submitted by /u/OpportunityLife7011 to r/PlannerAddicts [link] [comments]

I'm 38 and finally cracked the discipline code after failing for 15+ years. Here's the system that changed everything.
I've failed at building discipline more times than most of you have tried. Most of what's taught about discipline is bullshit that looks good on Instagram but fails in real life. After 15+ years of trial and error, here's what actually works: The 2-Day Rule: Never miss the same habit two days in a row. This simple rule has been more effective than any complex tracking system. Decision Minimization: I prep my workspace, clothes, and meals the night before. Eliminating these small decisions preserves mental energy for important work. The 5-Minute Start: I commit to just 5 minutes of any difficult task. 90% of the time, I continue past 5 minutes once friction is gone. Tools are your best friend. I use the normal notes app on my phone to write down gratitudes and other things on my mind all the time. For staying consistent, I use this app. Trigger Stacking: I attach new habits to existing behaviors (e.g., stretching during coffee brewing, reading while on exercise bike). Weekly Course Correction: Sunday evenings are sacred for reviewing what worked/didn't and adjusting for the coming week. This isn't sexy advice. It won't get millions of likes on social media. But after thousands spent on books, courses, these simple principles have given me more progress than everything else combined. Skip the 15 years of failure I endured. Start here instead. submitted by /u/sebastard07 to r/Aging [link] [comments]

Me & my gf built a meal planner & groceries helper, now trying to productize it: looking for feedback!
Oct 14 EDIT: Thank you all for your feedback!!! We've currently made the whole meal planning feature completely free, lowered the subscription price to $2.99/mo and added a yearly option for $29.99. Both paid options retain the 14 days trial. --------------------- We built MenuMagic.ai to fight the weekly hassle of meal planning and making grocery lists every week. It creates a week’s meal plan and synced shopping list you can share in real-time with family members, and it’s easy to set constraints (skip certain days, avoid specific foods, don't like broccoli...). We’ve been using it both to brainstorm meal ideas quickly and for a more hands-off approach to weekly planning. It saves us so much time and avoids that “ugh I have to make the list again” feeling every weekend: It’s especially helpful when we split up at the store since the shopping list updates in real-time, we can check off items as we go and meet back at checkout with everything done. I even finally know which aisle she is in!!! 🤣 We've added features over time because we use them firsthand but, now that we're trying to monetize it, the most valuable thing has become user feedback: does this scratch an itch? Do you solve the shopping list drama differently? If it sounds interesting: Right now, we’re offering a no credit card 14-day free trial as we gather feedback and see if others find it as useful as we do, but feel free to reach out to extend that. We're experimenting with $5.99/month but are open to feedback there, too. Is this a side project? Well, it is more and more demanding of our time since we decided to make a proper product out of it, and my gf even quit her job recently to develop MenuMagic full time. So I'd say it is a dangerously part time side project for me, and a full time project for her. Some side project history I started prototyping this about 8y ago (!! If you're reading this and are a dev... ship faster): me and my gf just moved in together in a rented home, away from our families, and being fully in charge of groceries suddenly sucked 🙃 I was a React Native developer so I tinkered a bit over the weekends or after work. Recipes were the biggest issue: to generate a shopping list I needed to know what we would eat for the week, and coming up with all the meals on, usually, a Friday evening or a Sunday morning was really a chore, especially since I wanted more variety between meals. Having to input your own recipes was just a different kind of chore, and existing recipe databases weren't flexible enough. I put the app on pause, as I couldn't find a practical solution to all the friction required to "kickstart" the app. Finally LLMs (ChatGPT and the likes) became a thing and I've dusted off the old project again! Initially the proposed meals were pretty bad, but we've gotten to a point in which suggestions are actually very good and require very little user input. The app helps us a lot and hopefully will help you too! There's a lot of lessons learned about ads, tech stack, prioritizing work, SEO, "indie" development and screaming into the void, but this is already quite the wall of text: feel free to ask if you're curious about something more "meta" about the project than the project itself submitted by /u/Brucabbro to r/SideProject [link] [comments]

AITAH for allowing my husband’s mistress to meal prep for him and the kids?
I am NOT OOP, OOP is u/Nyccheesecake Originally posted to r/AITAH AITAH for allowing my husband’s mistress to meal prep for him and the kids? Thanks to u/queenlegolas & u/soayherder for suggesting this BoRU Trigger Warnings: infidelity, gaslighting, emotional abuse and manipulation Original Post: October 18, 2024 My husband has been cheating on me for years with different women due to this I’ve completely shut off from him. We don’t have a sexual relationship but we do an amazing job at being parents. Our kids love us and that’s all that matter in the grand scheme of things. I am not dating anyone, this isn’t an open relationship. Every time he cheats he acts more remorseful but Ive come to terms that I can’t save him. He’s seeing this woman Cherry and she’s a cook and baker. We were in a little tussle once but that’s is in the past. I’ve moved on. I don’t like her but I don’t hate her. Few weeks back I caught him eating in his car and realized it was from her, the packaging gave him away. She has been sending him goodie bags and now full meals. I told him going forward I’m no longer cooking for him and he needs to let her do everything including meals for the kids. I really put my foot down and did some petty things that I’m not proud of but it worked. I told him if she loves him she will do it but I’m done. Well I don’t know what he did to convince her but at least 3 times a week they get meals from Cherry. He brings the container and plates the food, the kids are happy because they think they are getting take out. I don’t partake. On the other days I cook for just the kids and myself. My husband on the other hand got mad and said I manipulated him into taking advantage of Cherry and kept asking me what do I get out of these mind games. I told my best friend about the whole ordeal and she’s upset with me saying that what if Cherry spikes the kids meal. I don’t think she would do it. AITAH for letting this happen? AITAH has no consensus bot, OOP received the majority of YTAs Relevant / Top Comments Commenter 1: Mistress wanted to be a sister wife. She got assigned sister wife duties. Lmao OOP: She’s a professional mistress. She’ll move on from him soon. Commenter 2: Why are you staying with him? For fucks sake just get divorced. This is sick and a terrible environment in which to raise kids OOP: I’m not giving up my house and leaving with half. I hope I get under his skin and he gives up everything. Commenter 3: You are setting a terrible example for your kids long term , if you have a son , how would you feel if he did this to his wife ??? !!! Kids know, you can’t hide it OOP (downvoted): My babies clothed and fed. They don’t know what’s going on. They are too young for that. I pretend when I’m Infront of them. Commenter 4: YTA for staying in this toxic marriage. The example you're setting for your kids is abominable.   Update: August 21, 2025 (10 months later) AITAH for allowing my husband’s mistress to meal prep for him and the kids? UPDATE It’s been 10 months or so since I’ve last posted and a lot has changed. I’m here to tell you that I am getting a divorce and starting the moving on process. After posting on Reddit I received a lot of backlash and dm’s that were a bit overboard. However, there were some that made me see life in a different perspective and I realized being petty doesn’t serve me nor my kids. A month after my OG post I stopped the kids from eating cherry’s meals, it was childish to drag my kids into that mess, I’m just grateful they are small enough and don’t understand what’s happening with their parents. I let her cook for him and take care of his laundry. There is no way I’m slaving over a man who hates me. My job is to take care of my kids not a grown adult who cannot respect his wife. I’m no longer cook, therapist, financial planner, assistant and maid. Just mother of his children and soon to be ex wife. Well to rip the bandaid off I cheated back and it didn’t go as planned. The petty spirit in me did it in the worst way possible. I invited a gentleman over when I knew my husband would be coming in and he saw and heard everything. He caught me in the act to keep it real with you all. I’m lucky to say that it could’ve went way worse than it did but I don’t feel guilty just indifferent. I can say he isn’t taking it well and before bed he bawled his eyes out and vented for what felt like a millennium. I am the scum, I am the traitor. It’s funny not in a hysterical way but I’ve been crying for YEARS and he’s only cried once. It’s almost as if he forgot he was the cheater who caused all of this. I’m don’t know how to explain but I don’t regret cheating back. It made me feel empowered, I felt satisfaction watching him breakdown because that used to be me. The morning afterwards he woke up begging to reconcile but this taught me I NEEDED to divorce. He’s being extra nice but nice isn’t good enough, it’s the bare minimum. I had to pause when writing because he called to check up on me at work. He never does this. Not to mention lunch drop offs and little gifts. I’m not buying it. I know this isn’t the update some would want but the bright side is I’m holding myself accountable and getting that divorce. Relevant Comments Commenter 1: It's funny how some people only change when it hurts them. He cheats on you, destroys you, oh well. You cheat on him, now he feels bad, time to reconcile. There's a simple lesson here- dude's emotionally selfish. He cares about himself, DGAF about hurting you. I'd tell him that to his face. Hubby, I understand it hurts to see your spouse fucking someone else. I understand that now you've experienced that hurt for yourself, it's real to you, and you want to fix things. But here's the thing- the fact that you're willing to do it to me without thinking how I'd feel, but then once you feel it yourself you repent, that reveals the kind of person you are on the inside. That you're a person who will protect their own emotions, but doesn't have the empathy to consider how your actions will affect others, or the fortitude to stand up against hurting others even when it means you don't get something you want. For that reason, I don't want to be married to you anymore. It's not because of what you did, it's because what you did both now and before revealed who you are. If you have any sorrow or shame from this, then please let's get this over quickly. Let's do a fair and amicable divorce, let's not drag it out, and let's be as good co-parents as we can be. If not for us, for the kids- they didn't ask for any of this and they don't deserve it. OOP: Copying this to tweak it a little. The worst part is he tried to come on to me then had the nerve to act hurt. During his rant he wanted me to hug him as if he was the victim. Commenter 2: Sorry for those who think it's wrong, but I loved the fact that you cheated too. It's good to make him taste his own medicine. OOP: I won’t lie it felt good. The weirdest thing was him trying to initiate intimacy in the morning. He seemed triggered when I declined. Commenter 3: You don’t want your kids growing up with an angry mom. This is definitely for the best. OOP: I always try my best to be happy around them. They never suspect anything is wrong. Commenter 4: I went to the OG too, and I have a question for OP if she sees this. OOP says Cherry is a “professional mistress”, does that loser pay her? OOP: When we had a little tussle she mentioned that he paid her rent. I called her a professional mistress because this isn’t the first taken man she’s messed with. She’s known for doing that.   DO NOT COMMENT IN LINKED POSTS OR MESSAGE OOPs – BoRU Rule #7 THIS IS A REPOST SUB - I AM NOT OOP submitted by /u/Choice_Evidence1983 to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

How do you plan meals for the week when both are working all day?
Breakfast is usually cereal or toast while rushing out the door. After school my child comes home starving and needs something immediately. By dinnertime I am wiped out and we often end up ordering food. I try to cook for the week on Sundays but chores errands and life always get in the way. The food sits in the fridge until it spoils and then I feel guilty. What really works for you as a full time working parent with kids to feed? How do you plan your weekly menu and turn it into a grocery list? Where do you find kid friendly meals that everyone eats without fuss? How do you shop so you have everything you need but avoid waste? Do you use any apps planners or simple systems to keep track of meal ideas and ingredients? How do you leave room for last minute changes while still having a plan? Please share your routines tips and tricks so we can all keep our families fed and happy. submitted by /u/Accomplished-Top2592 to r/Parenting [link] [comments]

Anyone else exhausted from being the default cook and meal planner in their relationship? How do you find balance?
Currently losing the plot trying to balance work and home life. I’m a shift worker in healthcare pulling long hours, and when I finally crawl home like a goblin emerging from the mines, I’m somehow still the one expected to whip up a nutritious, Pinterest-worthy meal. I’m the type who likes a clean space and clean eating, which unfortunately translates to: if I want either of those things, I have to do them myself. We did get a cleaner in every two weeks, so I’ve won that particular battle.. My partner is a vegetarian and, bless her, cooking is not her strong suit. It's more like her cautionary tale. So naturally, grocery shopping, cooking, and meal planning have become my full-time unpaid side hustle. I’m the only one who seems to know what food exists in the world or how to turn it into a meal. It’s a gift. Or a curse. Hard to tell at this point. The kicker? I don’t even have the time or energy to cook half the time. I come home wrecked and hungry, to a kitchen full of raw potential and zero execution. And yet, somehow, I’m still expected to produce food—ideally something that caters to both my meat-eating and her vegetarian needs. So now I’m doing mental gymnastics on how to make a bolognese that’s half cow, half lentil. It’s thrilling. Also, I’m apparently the sole curator of what we eat. No one else seems to know how to say “pasta” out loud unless I suggest it first. It's like I'm running a restaurant where I’m the chef, the menu planner, the supply chain manager, and the only one showing up to work. Anyone cracked the code on how to share food responsibilities in a relationship without dying of hanger or passive resentment? submitted by /u/Free-Sentence2301 to r/AskMenAdvice [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my bf that I do not want his kids, ever, over chores.
Original POST: I (f 27) have been with my bf (m 25) for 4 years. We do not support each other financially and split costs 50/50. We often talk about getting married, we’re very in love and he is 99% the most perfect man in every single way. He is my partner for life the way I see it. We also talk sometimes about having kids, even though I never wanted them before he and I were together and he knew that. In the first year of our relationship I realized I wanted to give a child the chance to be loved by this man and I know he would be an amazing father so I told him I had changed my mind though I don’t plan to have a child until 35. Now the issue: bf is in a management position at work, he is however miserable & has planned on quitting for months. We recently returned from two weeks abroad, we’ve been home for one month. I work seasonally so I have not had to work much for the last month, while he goes to work 5 days a week for a job he hates. I am aware that bf needs more support rn so since we have been home I have been the meal planner, the grocer, the chef, the dish doer, the laundry maid, the litter box chief, EVERYTHING. He comes home at 4 and promptly checks out to play video games. The first few days I would kiss him and ask if what I had planned for dinner sounded good. He would thank me for my help and tell me he was sorry he was being so lazy. I would tell him that I understand work has put him in survival mode and I can help out. It has now been ONE MONTH. That I have done every single home task. There are days when he wouldn’t have eaten a meal or had clean clothes to wear without me doing it for him. Yesterday he finally put in his two week notice at work. I wanted to celebrate by making dinner and picking up dessert. Both the butcher shop and the patisserie were closed. I was disappointed & drove to my grocery to try to come up with a new plan. Somehow along the drive I completely went numb.. started to dissociate and then realized that I was crying, and sweating, and getting nauseous. I think I was having a panic attack? I drove myself home and got in the shower where I had a complete breakdown and starting yelling to myself about how backwards it was that this man, who doesn’t pay my bills, lets me do everything for him. I realized that even with working my own job full time, dealing with sexual assault trauma and a two year long police investigation that has come about because of the abuse, I have never ever stopped taking care of myself or the house chores. If anything I did more chores to deal with my mental state at that time. I have never left him in the gutter for weeks at a time not contributing to our home. Half way through my rant, my boyfriend came home, he heard me yelling and came to talk to me. He got in the shower with me and hugged me and asked me to tell him what was wrong. So I did. I didn’t hold back. I told him I wasn’t his maid, he gets paid to go to work and that’s his money, I got nothing for being the sole caretaker of the home. I told him I got a good glimpse of what life as a stay at home mom would look like (we also foster kittens so I was also doing that alone) and that I wasn’t gonna do it. I told him that I knew I didn’t want to have his future kids anymore because his life wouldn’t change and my whole identity would become maid, cook, and milk maid. I told him I wasn’t going to waste my life taking care of kids who can’t do anything for themselves when he and I could travel forever, save money forever and become the people we want to be. I told him I’d rather do anything else in the world than be a mother. I told him I loved him and I understand he’s having a hard time but asked him when I’ve ever put him in the position to do everything himself. He couldn’t , because I never have. I told him I want it to be just us forever, and that I felt relieved having told him that I do not want kids. He was very sad. He told me he had always looked forward to being a dad, I asked him, if you could carry it would you? He said I don’t know. I said that means no you wouldn’t, so of course you want to be a dad all you’d have to do would be to cum inside me and you would be a dad. I told him point blank at least 4 times “I do not want to be a mom. I want to be selfish, I don’t want to be a maid.” I know what people will say: has this been an issue before? Him not doing chores? The answer is yes. At lease three times a year we have this fight about the housework being uneven, but this was the last straw for me. I meant what I said, I love him, if I have to take care of him sometimes and I know that going in, whatever, but to add tiny people to that and imagine it going the way things go now… I told him I would rather die than spend a month alone in a house taking care of it for some kids who don’t contribute anything to my life. He’s been sad since. Am I the asshole?? My heart hurts. Update/EDIT/ Clarify: DO I SHOW MY BF THIS POST OR DOES THAT MAKE IT WORSE? — damn y’all tore us apart! Really went for my Intelligence. Many perspectives shared, mostly that I am patient Zero for mental illness and that bf and I should run away from each other or to therapy. I’ll take therapy, as he has his own PTSD that’s undiagnosed and y’all helped me see that for real thanks for all the real life advice. I love this man, he says he loves me & I believe him. You all cured me of being one of those people who go straight to “break up!!” I see now though how wrong the uneven house work is though… I see it’s a problem. But when you see 700 people telling you leave him or he will switch out your birth control and lock you in a cage but that you would definitely be a terrible mother it makes you ask yourself what you believe and I’m gonna keep asking myself. But I know he’s my man. Thank you all. To clarify our finances very clearly once again: My boyfriend does not pay any of my bills. I started our relationship working 60 hour work weeks outdoors, 9 months of the year, I still did the majority house work and cooking then. I live off savings and travel in December because I make that much money 9 months of the year. I also started my own business this year so I took my seasonal hours down to 40 but with my start up I still average 50 hours a week. My boyfriend does not pay any of my bills. Hopefully this clarifies that I am not in fact a lazy fuck. Edit 2: Forgive me for only sharing the worst parts of myself and my bf on the internet no one wants to upvote on all endless tales of the wonderful days of our lives so jeeze. In reality the conversation ended with me asking him if he could be okay with that, he said that he wanted to be with me no matter what and that we had cats we didn’t need kids and we had Asia to see all of. I want to believe him but i am afraid of what everyone warns of, the eventual resentment of me. I promise we’re not as fucked as I made us sound thanks for the humbling reality checks tho submitted by /u/Old-Caregiver-7295 to r/IAmTheAsshole [link] [comments]

Choosing beggar brother demands thousands of dollars of catered food for wedding
My POS brother dropped a bomb on us on Christmas that he was finally marrying his long-time girlfriend. Since he lost all of his inheritance (mostly stocks we all received when we turned 18) on cryptocurrency, he is broke, so he is having everyone in the family cover certain expenses. Since I worked for years in fancy restaurants, including as a sous for a James Beard award-winning chef, I get to cover the meal. After pressure from my parents, I relented. This morning he called to tell me what he wanted. Attendees = 250 invites, all with a plus one allowed Cocktail hour, with tray passed hors d'oeuvres, he's still working on what that will entail main course (plated, not buffet style) beef dish - Filet mignon, served with Yorkshire pudding and roasted asparagus poultry dish - Red current glazed duck breast, with fondant potatoes and grilled brussels sprouts veg dish - Chickpea bolognese, with cauliflower pasta and mushroom gratin dessert - a collection of choux pastries, other pastries, and mini cheesecakes To make matters worse, the kitchen rental at the venue is $1,000, which includes the cleaning fee, but not any cookware or utensils. I'll have to pay for additional cooks, servers, bartenders, bussing staff, and the serving ware. I am beyond livid. More frustrating is my parents have always babied him, and so when I called to let them know that I wasn't going to do it, not if he's going to be demanding all this when getting it for free, I was told that I should call up my restaurant contacts and see if they would be willing to donate their time or the ingredients. UPDATE: My parents had a heart-to-heart with him, after discovering that he's been taking money from other relatives as well for a few years. They gave him an option of not taking any money for the wedding, and they would pay for courses so he would learn how to be more responsible with his money, or they put an undisclosed amount of money in an account and hire a wedding planner who can use the money from that account, but they would cut off all contact with him. There was apparently a lot of crying on both sides, but ultimately he decided to take the cash. We were told to no longer help him out financially, and (they recommended) not contacting him either. Is there a word for feeling happy, sad, relieved, and disappointed, all at the same time? FINAL UPDATE: It's been a wild few weeks. I learned that the trust my brother received was revoked by my parents a long time ago. In its place, they gave him a small allowance so that he could still afford to live, which they also stopped. The reason? As many pointed out, it turns out my brother has serious addiction problems, and when he said he was going to the "Malibu Four Seasons" or headed out to the "Courtney Love Dance Festival" he was actually checking into rehab. He called me last week to make amends, because he's going back into rehab, and it's a requirement that you put to rest any hard feelings before checking in. We did nothing but argue. First, he insisted that the food costs wouldn't be in the tens of thousands, because he knows that it only costs a dollar or two per plate and that all that extra cost is nothing but markup (something he wouldn't let go of). Second, he couldn't understand why I would think there is 500 people coming when he clearly stated that they invited 250 people each with a plus one since any "reasonable person" would know that meant there were only 125 invitees who have the option of a plus one. Lastly, he absolutely despises my parents and everything they represent. The only reason he took the money was that he wanted to hurt them. (btw, the only reason they offered to give him money at all for the wedding was that they are very Catholic, and wanted him to at least have a proper Catholic service) It's been very eye-opening to know that there are a lot of hidden skeletons in the family, that have been kept from us so that we appear "normal." submitted by /u/Cry-in-the-walk-in to r/ChoosingBeggars [link] [comments]
