I posted a while back after finishing my first wearable, which was a pullover hoodie. I much prefer zip ups, so was determined to make the same hoodie in a zip up. Finished it a while ago but forgot to post it. I LOVE it, very heavy weight and perfect for cold windy days. I bought this zip-up hoodie at the London show, and I'm so disappointed in the quality. It genuinely feels like a Shein hoodie and all plasticky. For £50 it feels like a rip-off, especially after looking through the subreddit and seeing it's the same design as the Turnstile merch- but changed from a pullover to a zip up and with a completely plain back. The label says it's an "AS colour relax" blank and 20% polyester, 80% cotton, but it feels worse than other hoodies I have with the same or higher polyester material splits. I bought it on a whim thinking I might be able to get it signed but Jane only came out for a minute to grab their takeaway food and ran back inside and I didn't wait around any longer after that. Overall just really let down with the quality especially seeing it was much better in other locations. Searching for this always brings up Carhartt, American Giant, Flint and Tinder 10 year, etc. then the comments are always how the one they bought a decade ago is a solid bit of kit that lasts forever, and how the brand sold out 3 years ago and everything is made in Asia for 5% of the cost and the quality is now awful. I want a hoodie made like the ones 10 or 20 years ago and properly lasts forever. I’d really like one that is 100% cotton but it’s not a dealbreaker if it’s a lower %. Must be black, full zip, and no massive logos. It seems that just about everyone I've encountered prefers pullover hoodies and I cannot for the life of me understand why. I started noticing this a few months ago when I had the conversation with a friend and have been asking people here and there as a matter of interest ever since. Pullover hoodies don't make sense to me. It's like committing your day to 2 heat settings. Put it on and it's too hot. Take it off and it's too cold. Eventually they just get uncomfortably warm if you wear them for too long. Plus, it can sometimes be awkward when you have to take one off or put one on. Zip-up hoodies are great. You have at least 3 heat settings. You can wear it closed, take it off, or wear it unzipped. Sometimes the perfect temperature comes from partially opening or closing the zipper. And, of course, they're easy to put on and take off as you please. I can't understand why someone would choose a restricting pullover instead of a versatile zip-up hoodie. That's all I have to say. Wavy zippers are the worst and make baby Jesus cry. Edit: Hey, this kinda blew up, thanks for the awards! I want to elevate some good comments that folks have made: 1.) Line drying is always your best bet if your climate / space allows. 2.) Drying on Low / delicate, potentially in a lingerie bag is the next best thing to line drying. 3.) Don’t blast your hoodies on high heat in the dryer in any case, it’s bad news. 4.) Folks have mentioned that the zipper will go wavy anyway if you zip it or not, it just depends on the heat since the fabric is shrinking either way (and that I am full of hooey - cheeky ;) ) Honestly, that hasn’t been my experience, I will say it would probably be better not to dry them on anything above low heat, but when I have dried them on higher heat (I don’t love some of my hoodies and I am often lazy and in a hurry) being zipped up produces far less zipper waviness than unzipped. I’m not sure if this is because the fabric is shrinking away from the zipper in a uniform manner when zipped or something, but just conveying my experience. Don’t nuke your beloved zip-up hoodie on nuclear blast setting while zipped up just to be safe - check out the tips above if you wanna preserve it for the aliens who will discover our civilization eons from now.
