Hi, I have a found a fun community that has a 24 hour/7 days a week Zoom Meeting available. It is really helpful for myself and others, especially who suffer from loneliness. You see, I was recently widowed last Summer and I found a group of Widowed (a Dating Group in fact) that have had this Zoom Meeting open 24 hours a day. For like 5 years in fact. It is a bit like a Chatroom (mIRC, AIM, Yahoo, etc), but with video of course. So it raises the question, are there other Zoom Meetings available like this? When you google it, you mostly get Zoom Meetings for Substance Abuse or AA, or those suffering in a crisis. Which I follow why, but the Widowed Dating Zoom is not about that. I would be curious and guess this is something that might be common now or in the future. Especially for like certain areas or interests (I love music for example). The Washington Post said that a third of its staff across all departments was getting laid off, so it is not just affecting the newsroom, The Associated Press reported. It wasn’t wildly inappropriate but enough where I shouldn’t have said it and was a personal attack on her intellect. Like the title says she got an email of all the shit I said and fired me today. A couple years back, my managing director flew in from India to the US. During a team lunch, someone asked why we had to come into the office three days a week if all we did was sit on Zoom calls anyway. He did not take that question well. Now, my situation was a little different. I was one of the only specialized senior engineers left after Covid. No replacement for me, lots of responsibility. And I had been working remotely for years, even pre-Covid, which was a lifesaver for my family situation. But this MD insisted on a one-on-one with me. It wasn’t so much a conversation as an interrogation. He could not fathom why I wouldn’t just follow the “3 days in office” rule. I explained: flexibility was non-negotiable for me. I wanted to be there for my family. That’s when he hit me with what I still consider the wildest “solution” I’ve ever been offered in a professional setting: “Why don’t you just get a live-in nanny? She can help raise your kids with your wife while you focus on your career.” Said with a completely straight face. I never went back to the office after that. I left the company, found a better job, and kept my priorities intact. But sometimes I think about how genuinely baffled he was that I’d choose family time over climbing the corporate ladder. Like, the man looked at me like I’d just said I wanted to retire at age 35 and become a goat farmer. Anyway, my kids know who I am, my career’s still fine, and no nanny lives in my house. Title says what happened. I was on a zoom meeting to interview for a position I am really excited about and hope I get. In the middle of the interview, my mom comes home from being out for a bit and starts mouthing and whispering to me on the other side of the computer. From this, I get distracted and start fumbling for a couple minutes. Was already nervous for this interview bc like I said I really hope I get this position. She stood there until the interview was over. Out of nervousness, since our front door is kinda loud I said that I was a bit distracted bc my mom just got home. Will this mess up my chances of getting the job? It was so embarrassing. Also the person who interviewed me was the director of the whole county for this company. She seemed super chill about it but ahhh Update: got an email to schedule a second interview for this position. Feel like I got lucky after this whole thing but at the same time second interview doesn’t mean u got the job. At least I’m working my way up the process… not going to be home at the time of the next interview so currently researching some places I can go in the area I’ll be in so I don’t have to do it in my car :/ Update 2: GOT THE JOB! Hope I don’t regret my decision bc after seeing that contract it’s going to be a lot but going to college for this and already being in the field for 5 years I kinda signed up for it lol - first time doing a full day of it though in a couple years. Update 3: I quit after 4 days… there was some stuff going on that shouldn’t have and was having a mental breakdown every chance I could get the whole time. Let’s just say I’m in a grieving period still… it’s been a couple weeks now but it’s still hurting. I’m grateful to be at my mom’s job until I can find something else but this is all I can think about. This was the career I was meant to be doing but after this experience it has really turned me off almost completely. This is something that actually just happened an hour ago. I work completely remote and had a weekly zoom meeting with my boss and 7 other coworkers (with varying levels of authority) and they were talking about something rather important. Now, before you judge me super hard, I actually have my Zoom settings set up to automatically mute when entering meetings. I usually keep it on mute at all times unless I need to talk. This meeting was a little different because I needed to give my input on the topic, so when I joined the meeting, I decided to unmute (big mistake). My wife and I recently decided that we would get a dog via a dog breeder - we had already put down a deposit for a puppy. The parents of our future puppy had yet to mate but today that changed when the dog breeder posted on their Facebook page announcing that the parents have successfully mated. Unfortunately, English is NOT my wife's first language, so when she read the post on her phone on the other side of the room, she immediately asked me what "mated" means. Without a second thought, I yelled to her "THEY HAD SEX". The meeting goes quite for a second and my boss laughs. My heart drops, and I quickly look at my computer screen to see if it was unmuted. The microphone did not have the red slash across it. I could feel the blood rush to my face and in a flash I clicked the button to mute my microphone. After my boss finished laughing, they continue the meeting as if nothing happened. My wife and I share a laugh about it but it is easily one of the most embarrassing moments in my life. Yes, I am aware that I'm lucky that this is one of my worst moments - i know it could be so much worse. Writing this out made me feel better though. TL:DR: I yelled "THEY HAD SEX" to my wife who did not know what the word "mate" means because English is not her first language while on a Zoom meeting and my boss and coworkers heard me. If you share your desktop, everyone will see anything that happens on it. For example, a friend was in a large Zoom meeting and the presenter shared his desktop, not just PowerPoint. Midway through the presentation, his wife sent him an IM that said "I know about Cindy". The dudes marriage blew up in front of a large audience. I was by the book, fired for cause. Performance issues, trouble keeping a consistent work schedule, and sexual harassment. But because he's fishing buddies with the dude who's name is on the building he's back at work. And the zoom call? He claimed he was joking. Clearly was not. He was asked to stop by multiple people in the call. He clearly didn't know his camera was on. The intern is the neice of a client so rich he doesnt pay his bills with us. Instead he basically gave us his kin as slave labor as an intern. Wish I made this shit up. So you can grope people and blame it on skipping your meds. You can tell obscene and generally unfunny jokes about SA and the like so long as you're buddies with the management? He's back at work today. Not working. What a dumpster fire. I'm tending my resignation tonight and taking a position in another city. Hopefully their workplace environment isn't an absolute shit show. I'm venting. I'd love to have a gripe session about workplace creeps who actually got punished for it and not protected. It would help today.... Edit: Wow. I didn't know there were so many people who could relate to this and have experienced the same. Thanks for all the wonderful advice. I and a few others have reached out to an attorney in the area who specializes in harassment cases and we are strategizing on how best to assure the intern that she is protected and has recourse. We'll all gonna get some sleep and hit these clowns hard tmr. Thanks for the support and the awards! I wish there was more I could do here. But it's going on paper and it's going up the chain.
