I've recently discovered a brand of clothing that does adorable collabs for bamboo baby clothes with some of my favorite fandoms. What I don't understand is why one baby zippy pajama is $40 and why there seems to be a weird culty community around it. Hi laundry friends. I need ideas tips or suggestions because I feel like I'm randomly destroying and causing undue wear when I'm washing my baby clothes. For said baby clothes, I typically do a hot wash normal cycle with powdered "tide+oxy" to line one. My washer is a Miele W3033. I fill the drum up 3/4ish full which the manual recommends. I've tried selecting the hand wash or gentle cycle but then the clothes dont actually seem like they have enough agitation to get out baby stains and I've found food particles that weren't washed away. I've tried throwing the baby's clothes in with our adult clothes and the pilling seems the same or worse. I just don't get it it feels like I have to choose clean clothes or not letting them pill. I mean seriously it's aggravating that I can put a new pair of baby socks in and they come out pilled or a little sweat suit after 3/4 washes is now completely pilled down the front of the legs. part of me is suspicious that it maybe the material. For the most part I try to get cotton, or bamboo but life's not perfect and there's a lot of mixed material garments now. Hello! I have a four month old and I’ve been attempting to cloth diaper her since she was 4 weeks old. I have a variety of cloth diaper covers and inserts- GMD, Nora’s Nursery, Bum Genius, Charlie Banana, Grovia, Ecobum. I have covers, fitteds, and inserts (mainly cotton, bamboo and hemp). All diapers are a mix of gently used and new. I stripped them all with RLR, gave them a bleach wash, and I only use Tide free and clear gentle powder. However, no matter what combination I use, my baby’s butt is always, always wet. Being constantly moist gives her diaper rash, so we abandon cloth diapers for a while in favor of disposables, and try again with a new system when her butt heals. But again, every time I remove the diaper, the inserts or (especially the fitteds) are soaking wet, and her bum is wet, too, and we end up with diaper rash again. I change her diaper every 1-1.5 hours when she’s in cloth, and it’s terribly disruptive to our day. Sometimes she needs to be changed 20 minutes later because her cloth diaper is soaked. This cannot be normal, right? I’ve tried buying stay-dry fleece liners, but they don’t help. I’ve tried adding more inserts, but she finds 3+ inserts uncomfortable and complains. Two inserts isn’t enough. Her skin is always, always moist. Disposables keep her dry for 4+ hours, even when the line is fully blue, her skin is still dry to the touch when I take them off. It makes it hard to go back to cloth when it upsets her sensitive skin so often. Please help Edit: Thank you so much to everyone who commented! I have some good ideas moving forward- mainly to switch to prefolds/flats vs inserts, adding a water softener to my laundry, and trying to hang out in just the fitted without a cover. Edit 2: For anyone who follows this or will find it in the future, I wasn’t using inserts that were absorbent enough. Reddit user r/annamend correctly guessed that my inserts were inadequate. I switched to putting Clotheez Prefolds in her diapers instead of cotton, bamboo or hemp inserts. It immediately fixed the problem. I also consistently started using a cloth diaper safe diaper rash balm. This plus switching to prefolds has had us successfully using cloth diapers for almost two weeks now! She’s never soaking wet, I can get THREE TO FOUR HOURS before a diaper change, and even then the prefold still has room for more absorbency, but I don’t want to risk diaper rash so I change her anyway. To preface, I love buying secondhand goods. I love thrifting my own clothes, clothes for my husband and housewares for our home. For context, I live in an area where the thrifting for adult clothes is just ok and brick and mortar kid’s resale isn’t a thing, so I’ve been trying to do this mostly online and via marketplace. They've turned it into this lifestyle thing where "you wouldn't understand" how addictive it is and "dad just doesn't get it" where they post memes about lying to dads about how much they paid for it. We now have thousands of dollars invested in pajamas, blankets, and sheets. Luckily there's a second hand market for these things for now. It makes me angry to see someone so smart fall for this trap. We now have to invest in fancy fabric stain removers because everytime our kid eats in one of these we have try to save it. My wife has stopped spending so much, but this could almost bankrupt someone with less resources with how addictive it seems. I'm tired of how much my life involves bamboo now.
