I have four profiles (my main and four extra) but we are having more and more issues with game not working fluently (lots of freezing and continuing, causing us to skip). I’m coming back to VR fitness after a long break. I used Supernatural before, but I haven’t touched it in over a year. I've been having problems with the streak/combo/tracking menu not coming up during the workouts. I'm not sure what it's actually called, but the little menu on the left side of the screen that is tracking my combo streaks and stats in real time during the workout -- it's all of a sudden gone and I can't for the life of me find a setting to turn it on! Has anybody tried the new hand tracking feature yet? I found that it doesn't work too well on Boxing and Combat classes. It seems to have issues tracking from hits that come outside of the field of few (hooks, uppercuts) and calculating speeds from all punches. Has anybody found a way to improve hand tracking at all? I’ve been working out in Supernatural for a year and I absolutely love it (my main reason to get into the headset on an almost daily basis). However, given that the folks behind Supernatural have been laid off and the app is essentially in maintenance mode, I’m worried it might not last long, so I’m trying to explore alternatives now before it’s too late (while continuing using Supernatural, of course). It looks like FitXR is the closest fit - I grabbed the trial and tried boxing and dancing. Boxing… was okay, I miss the polish, visuals and especially the SN coaches. Dancing didn’t do it for me at all. FitXR seems to be a more intense workout (eg jumping, didn’t expect that) but I want something that sticks, and I’m not convinced. I’ll keep doing it for at least the duration of the trial, but I’m curious - has anyone else made that switch (now or before), and how was your experience? My favorite exercise app, BoxVR(now fitXR and unhackable), stopped working (I can't press any options on the screen) a few updates ago. Was there a fix for our favorite Boxvr? The fact that you can access the game seems like it wouldn't be a difficult fix, but I'm just assuming. Anyway, if there's an update or a working version, please let me know. I exercise, but I get bored easily, so I want to buy a VR headset. I don’t have a budget. It seems like the general consensus is for a Meta Quest 3. The primary reason I want a VR headset is to gamify my exercise routine. I will probably end up playing video games anyway, but that’s not the main reason. What would you recommend? As everyone is probably aware by now, FitXR decided to become a subscription-based game. They dropped the $29.99 upfront payment with the option to buy DLCs in favor of a $10 per month subscription. I want to share some of my feelings about this change. First, I'd like to make it clear that I don't hate subscriptions for apps/games. Supernatural is a great example of a successful subscription-based game that many people love. This model allows them to provide frequent content updates and some licences that wouldn't be possible on a single-purchase model. However, I must say that this game isn't for me. I'm someone who plays multiple games as part of my workout routine - currently, BeatSaber, AudioTrip, SynthRiders, Audica, PistolWhip and FitXR - so the "it's cheaper than a gym membership" card doesn't work for me as I would have to pay $10/mo PER game if they were to switch to a subscription model. Secondly, let's remember FitXR's history of "revamping" their game: BoxVR to FitXR As of August 2020, BoxVR has become FitXR for Quest users. While many liked the revamp, it was a controversial decision for some: Custom playlists were removed from the game. BoxVR had three environments. FitXR launched with a single one. BoxVR allowed offline playing. FitXR didn't. The developer promised to add back removed features, as we can see in this article from VRFitnessInsider or even this tweet. We never got any of that back. FitXR to FitXR (Subscription) Yesterday, the developers decided to once again revamp the game. These changes resulted in a bit over 210 1-star reviews in the last 20 hours, making the game's rating on the Oculus Store drop to 3.7 (used to be above 4.0) as I write this. With this new update, the game: No longer allows users to buy DLCs, even if they had purchased the base game before. So if you don't want to join this new subscription, you're out of luck to expand your options. Removed cross-buy. Before, you got the game on both Rift and Quest. Now that it's free, the cross-buy was removed and your subscription only works for Quest. Revamped the UI to a much worse alternative, removing filters and options that made it easier to find workouts. Removed multiplayer with random users, restricting this feature to a new friends-based multiplayer. As you can see from the above, this is the second time the developers decided to completely revamp the game in 6 months. This time, no notice was given to users and the reward everyone who paid the game gets is getting "a legacy version", a 90-day trial and many removed features. Classic bait and switch. Communication My biggest problem with this update is how this was communicated to players. FitXR social media kept teasing its users about this new "big update" that was coming and did not mention any type of change to the business model. There wasn't any type of notice for users to make an informed decision, to get the DLC packs they want before they were delisted from Oculus Store or even to refund the game if they had just bought it. This contradicts the "you keep what you bought" and "subscription is optional" they keep repeating, as existing users are no longer able to expand the game like they used to. To make things even worse, multiple users are having problem with the game. Their previously purchased DLCs are no longer available and some of them can't even access the base game content they paid for. This creates a lot of confusion for more casual players that are not aware of the discussions happening in forums, social media and more. Conclusion Subscriptions are fine. As I mentioned above, they're simply not for me as I'm not willing to pay a subscription for the 5+ games I play on my VR routine. Supernatural is a successful example as it launched as a subscription based game. However, transforming a paid game into a subscription-based model, with no notice to their users and removing basic features / locking some behind a subscription paywall IS NOT. If FitXR had launched this subscription as a separate app or even a new exclusive game mode, things would've been fine. Instead, they decided to once again revamp the game in less than a year. All I can hope is that other developers won't follow this trend. I'd hate a platform where I have to pay $60/month to be able to enjoy Beat Saber, AudioTrip, Synth Riders, Audica, FitXR and Pistol Whip. submitted by /u/LTame to r/OculusQuest [link] [comments]
