I am 16 weeks pregnant and struggling. My recent labs show Hemoglobin drop from 10.3 to 9.2 and Ferritin 22 (no help from oral supplements like slowFE).Because of this, I am constantly exhausted and having "blackout sessions" where I feel like I'm going to faint. On top of the anemia, I have severe motion sickness (meds aren't working), back pain, and major GI issues (constipation/hemorrhoids/bloating). My manager is amazing and wants to let me work a hybrid WFH schedule, but he needs a doctor's note for HR to formalize it. My OBGYN refused, saying these symptoms are "just part of pregnancy." I agree they are common, but at 9.2 Hgb, I don't feel safe commuting or being in the office alone if I faint. I’m worried about falling and hurting the baby. Has anyone had an OBGYN refuse a note for accommodations? How did you get them to take the fainting/anemia seriously? I'm on Trt. Going to be on reta probably only for a couple months or so. I've never done steroids. I'm only on trt initially because my test was 160 (well below normal). But ive done a fair bit of reading about anavar and I think I may be interested. My only question is this: it seems like a lot of people take it along with trt. But Anavar *IS* a biological variant of testosterone, from what I've read. So if trt causes your hct to go up, how horrible does it go up paired with amavar? After being sent around in circles from my primary to a hematologist, a gynecologist, and a gastroenterologist, it’s not cancer, it’s not my cycle, and it’s not internal bleeding. the only conclusion anyone could give me was that anemia is just a woman’s disease. I’m a teenager, and I been running 4-5 days a week for six months at this point. I was so frustrated at how I was getting slower. Eventually I could barely walk to class, I think the fact that I had been working out so much was the only reason I managed to get by for as long as I did. My heart rate was in the 200s every time I stood up or moved. I have polycystic kidney disease but it has not begun progression at all. I’ve always eaten well, and my cycle is practically nonexistent. There has to be an answer out there. Haley lives with her dad, stepmom, and 4 younger step siblings (2 boys 2 girls, don’t know the exact ages but they seem to be between 5 and 10). Her mom passed when she was 3. Haley’s dad and stepmom are not well off. They live in a 3 bedroom house so Haley shares a room with her stepsisters. The kids get 1 pair of shoes, reuse school supplies until they’re falling apart, and if their clothes still fit they don’t get new school clothes. I am doing a lot better but I refuse to help him with money because if I give him money with the direct instructions to get Haley some decent shoes or a nice jacket I expect the money to be used on Haley, not split between all 5 kids. He also dislikes me because he blames me for cps investigating him and his wife for leaving the kids home alone every day. Haley stays with me after school and sleeps over a few nights a week because I won’t drop her off if theres not an adult present and I told her not to get on the bus under any circumstances so they can’t tell her I wanted her to take the bus home that day. Haley and 2 of her step siblings needed glasses. Nobody was able to take Haley for her eye exam and to get the glasses so they asked me to take her and gave me $100 with the instructions to get the cheapest pair we can find. I was driving Haley to the eye doctor and she told me she really wanted contacts but her dad said no. I talked to the receptionist and they were able to get her in for a contact fitting that day. After her contact appointment we checked out the glasses and she found 2 pairs that she really liked so I told her to get both. I took her back after school a few days later and picked up a few boxes of contacts. Her new glasses came in a few days ago and she loves them but her dad is furious about the glasses, then he found out about the contacts (I guess Haley was keeping them in her backpack and never told him about it) so he told her she gets to keep one pair of glasses and everything else has to stay at my house because he’s sick of me and Haley rubbing her stuff in her step siblings faces. Haley responded by packing most of her stuff and walking to my house. Now she’s refusing to go home. She tested negative for every virus and infection ESR: 32 CRP: 1.4 WBC: 11.5 Red blood cell count: 3.8 Hgb: 10.2 Hematocrit: 38.7 MCV: 92 RDW, RBC: 11.7 Platelets: 472 Stool calprotectin: 640 The doctor said it’s probably IBS and that she may be getting her period, which could be triggering it or making it worse but I just have a feeling that something’s wrong. She’s staying home from school again today because she just doesn’t feel good and Tylenol isn’t helping. I don’t know what to do at this point. My niece got a colonoscopy on Monday and they said she has moderate-severe ulcerative colitis across her entire large intestine. They gave her a blood transfusion, now they’re starting her on a steroid, and when she starts to respond to the steroids they’ll put her on something that can be used longer term. Update Post: September 11, 2025 (10 days from OG post) Haley has been in the hospital since Saturday for either ulcerative colitis or Chrons. Her health insurance pretty much only lets her go to the county hospital and medical centers and even this is going to get expensive. On top of Haley’s stomach situation, she also has type 1 diabetes and adhd (the adhd is currently not being treated). We live 20 minutes away from one of the best children’s hospitals in the country for both GI and diabetes. They also have a great psych department and adhd clinic. This would be covered under my insurance. 35 minutes in the other direction is another world renowned children’s hospital that I would be able to send her to. I sat Haley’s dad down the other day and showed him how much I was paying each month for Haley between her health insurance premiums, her insulin, monitor, and pump, her EpiPens, doctors appointments, etc. and told him that I refuse to continue to pay out the ass for her to receive medical care that is subpar at best when, if I was her guardian, she would get some of the best care possible for less than what I’m paying now. After a long discussion and a lot of back and forth, he agreed to give me guardianship of Haley. We started the process yesterday. She will live with me but will see her dad every other weekend and holiday. We talked to Haley about it today. She is very excited to officially live with me. Additionally, I contribute towards her father’s mortgage, I occasionally help with utilities, I’ve sent grocery gift cards to the house before. This man is not able to provide for his daughter and I was sick of paying this much for her to still not be adequately cared for so I sat him down, showed him all that I was doing, and told him to do it himself and take care of his kid or give her to me or let me do it. just context — i had a perfectly healthy happy kitten until one day he became lethargic and neuros were off. he stopped eating, drinking and became extremely weak. friday, i took him to the vet. the idiot of a vet (sorry), was a new inexperienced vet who took about 45 mins of in and outs and trying to call his boss before being “80% sure” it’s herpes FHV. now i’ve had a cat who had herpes. this was something else. i wanted to believe that’s what it was, took the meds and left. come monday, i brought him in because he could no longer stand on his own. the vet declared immediately he needed to be put down. this happened so fast and im so devasted i spent 800$ on 5 days for my kitty to be gone to heaven. here is his bloodwork, looking for some (gentle) answers. I had a lab test done the other day (results screenshot included in post) and was hoping to get some input. My iron levels came back normal, but my hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell count were all a bit low. I am a 37 y/o male and I run anywhere from 3 to 8 miles a day, so I wonder if "foot strike hemolysis" could be a factor. Also, over the last few months I've noticed that I seem to feel sluggish and fatigued during my runs (almost as if I stay in perpetual "warm up mode"). Even though the RBC/HGB/HCT levels are only slightly low, could they still cause those symptoms? Also, since my iron levels are in the high-normal range, I'm assuming it would be a bad idea to take an iron supplement, right? i work in medsurg which isn’t a real unit, it’s just for patient observation and where homeless people go when it gets cold. a few nights ago, in 1999, i heard a man crying- bawling actually. he tried to talk to me but the nurse punched him in the face and told me to leave the room and started growling at me when i tried to ask questions in french. a few minutes later, the patient’s nurse came up to me and apologized and said she had been moodier than normal because around this time of the month, she was hemoglobining. unfortunately while we were talking and rolling up, her patient started hemoglobining too. the respiratory therapist came by to do his labs and his levels were a .067. i asked the nurse what the plan was and she said “i’m giving this patient propofol so he can leave me alone while i get railed by the fellow in the breakroom. dayshift can take care of it”. i took it upon myself to contact the local radio. stating his first and last name, hospital, room number, and illness, so his family can take appropriate action. soon after that his mother and sister showed up to the hospital and wheeled the patient’s bed out of the department to safety. i added them on social media. to my surprise this patient has made a full recovery and his hemoglobin is now 12,000. im the hero in this. who knows what would’ve happened to this patient if i called off like i originally wanted to do. do the right thing, guys! even if he’s not your patient!💜👌🏿 submitted by /u/GorillaGrip68 to r/nursing [link] [comments]

Pt was upset I “hadn’t told them about this” even though I explained orders had been put in less than 15 minutes ago. This was also at shift change. They asked where the blood comes from, I told them about our blood bank in house and the process we would be doing to get it to the floor. They asked if we could verify where it came from. I asked what they meant, they said “like the vaccine status of who donated.” “No, sorry, that isn’t something they track. There’s shortage enough already.” “Well I looked it up online and there are other treatment options. I could do iron or B12. Hi everyone I’m pregnant and I’ve been taking 100mg of iron every other day as directed by my doctor. I got tests results back today that showed my iron was normal (I forget the actual number but right in the middle of the scale) but that my ferritin was low (8). What does this indicate? I’ve been doing this every other day iron protocol for a little over a month and my hgb has gone down .5 (was 10.9 5 weeks ago). I don’t get it. I (26F; 158lbs; 165cm) have been struggling with chronic fatigue. I’ve always pushed through for work but for the last year I have come home and literally laid in bed until bedtime. I do have depression, anxiety, and adhd but I am taking medications for these disorders and I feel they are well managed. I had my blood drawn two weeks ago and my Hemoglobin was a 9.2, TIBC was high, Ferritin a 3, MCV low, and Platelete count is high. Also, I had a vitamin d level of a 9. I wonder if this is why I have no energy and I’m feeling terrible most days. My legs are weak walking up stairs, I have tachcardia (elevated HR), palpitations… I’m hoping with supplements my energy will increase … could the fatigue be that severe to keep me in bed all day?
