Why’s it so hard to find a real leather go-to bag?
I’ve been searching for a work tote for a few months, and it’s so difficult to find one I actually would wear for years and is worth spending my hard earned money on. I’ve been using an oak and fort tote since 2019 and I’m so done with “vegan leather”. I’m tired of this marketing gimmick that makes you think you’re more ethical for wearing plastic. This is what I’m looking for: - long lasting genuine leather - can fit a 14 inch laptop - closes with a zipper (don’t want rain on my laptop, and I don’t want to fear someone reaching into my bag) - is organized inside (I’m tired of searching through my bag like it’s one big hole) - the straps aren’t too skinny that it pierces into my shoulders There’s thousands of bags out there, yet so many organized versions are made of PU leather, aka rubber tires. The genuine leather totes seem to have no organization which seems so thoughtless. Are there any intentional designers? For style, I like the coach Brooklyn bag, coach Juliet, coach Erin, coach Ella bags. They’re very cute to me. But I don’t want to continue to dig around my bag, and I don’t want to have to force my laptop in. I found this kaai bag: https://kaaibags.com/en-ca/products/pyramid-mocha-brown But find it annoying that it’s made from bonded leather, especially for that price. I also eyed this cuyana bag: https://cuyana.com/products/system-zipper-tote-16-inch But saw reviews here that it wasn’t lasting past a few months for people. So, where do people find good quality practical bags? Why is this so difficult?! submitted by /u/sadgirlhours96 to r/handbags [link] [comments]

They always have a reason why they can’t go vegan, and then they go ahead and buy leather shoes, belts, and bags.
They’ll say they love animals and they’re not vegan because it’s too expensive, they don’t have the time to cook, they have food allergies, but they’d really go vegan if they had the means to… and then they just buy leather without a second’s thought; for what reason? Just face it man, you don’t think twice about the animal behind the product and when a vegan presses you on it, the reasons enter your brain, then they go away when you end the discussion. submitted by /u/DistributionIcy8991 to r/vegan [link] [comments]

Building a sustainable bag brand from olive leather would love your honest thoughts :)
Hi everyone, I’m one of the founders of a small brand called beSeSi, and I’d genuinely love to hear perspectives from people with different backgrounds and experiences here. We’ve already launched our first product, but honestly, we still see this as an ongoing process, something that evolves with feedback, awareness, and better decisions over time. The idea behind the brand started with a simple question: Can we create something aesthetic and truly sustainable without compromising either? Our first bag is made from olive leather (a plant-based alternative), with a cupro lining (vegan silk). We’re trying to stay as conscious as possible, from materials to how we approach production. We’re also intentionally producing in very limited quantities, rather than scaling fast, trying to avoid overproduction and stay more responsible in how we grow. But sustainability means different things to different people, and that’s exactly why I’m here. I’d really appreciate your thoughts on things like: What does “sustainable” mean to you when it comes to fashion? Do you care more about materials, or transparency in production? What makes you trust (or doubt) a small brand talking about sustainability? Does limited production actually matter to you as a consumer? I’m not here just to promote, I’m here to listen, learn, and understand different perspectives. Any honest opinions, critiques, or even harsh feedback are more than welcome. Banana Stem Waste to Sustainable Textile: The Rise of Banana Fiber Fabric
NOTE: This is AI Generated Video But allied information is supported as per following links (Refers to Rule 9 of the community guidelines and rules) Banana stem waste, typically discarded after harvest, is increasingly being transformed into a sustainable textile known as banana fiber fabric, sometimes marketed as “vegan leather” or “poor man’s silk.” This innovation converts agricultural residue into a durable, breathable, and fully biodegradable material, providing a low-impact alternative to cotton. The production process begins with collecting and selecting the banana pseudostem after harvest, followed by manual or mechanical fiber extraction. The fibers are then washed, sun-dried, spun into yarn, and woven or knitted into fabric before undergoing finishing treatments such as dyeing, blending, or softening. Banana fiber offers several key advantages: it utilizes agricultural waste, thereby reducing methane emissions; requires less water and fewer pesticides than cotton; possesses high tensile strength—stronger than cotton and linen; and is completely biodegradable and compostable. The material is used in apparel such as T-shirts, jeans, and dresses, as well as accessories like bags, shoes, and belts, and in vegan leather alternatives. Companies such as Musa Fabric, TexFad, Banana Têxtil, and Bananatex are advancing this sector. Overall, banana fiber fabric supports circular economy models, reduces the environmental footprint of the fashion industry, and creates additional income streams for farmers. I'm a gen z new professional and tired of trying to find a Full Grain leather bag (both for work and everyday) that isn't priced by branding and marketing!!!
I just looked at a 47k pesos Coach bag that was full grain leather. My eyes bugged out of my head. I love supporting local ph brands. Juanita Studios? GVN? I'm there! I just cant find a good bag brand with great quality leather that will last me years. All I see are vegan or genuine leather, or even worse, fake! In prices going from 5-15k! For context: Full grain leather is the top of the leather hide that is the most durable and is not as color processed with plastics and all that crap because it doesnt need it. It gains a nice patina over the years and softens but remains durable as hell. Top grain leather is the next best but has the top of the hide sanded down to remove imperfections. I just want a local bag brand that isnt in a basic style and with good quality leather that will last years (and not disintegrate in a closet within months). Please help! submitted by /u/SoftSheepherder9706 to r/fashionph [link] [comments]

Luxury bags that don’t use young animal leather
I’m looking to purchase my first luxury bag ($4-8k range), but I noticed that most designer bags are made out of calf or lamb skin. I’m not vegan, but something about wearing a bag made of baby animals makes me very uncomfortable (not judging anyone who wears this, just a personal preference. I also don’t eat lamb or veal). Are there any luxury bags made of mature leather? Like adult cow, goat, sheep, etc.? I’m having a hard time finding that specifically. EDIT: Thanks to some awesome people in this thread, I’ve started compiling some current brands and bag styles made of mature/adult animal leather. I will keep adding to this (if I find more) for people who visit this thread in the future: Louis Vuitton: Many bags made of Epi and Monogram Empreinte, which are cowhide. Some examples: Speedy 20 in Monogram Empreinte, Petit Palais in Monogram Empreinte, Alma BB in Epi, Neverfull MM in Epi, Cluny Mini in Epi Dior: Has some goatskin bags, but almost all have lambskin lining. An example with goatskin lining: Mini, Medium, or Large Soft Saddle Bag in Goatskin Chloe: They offer bags made of buffalo, goat, and cowhide leather HOWEVER, a lot of them still have calfskin lining. Here are some examples where both the exterior and interior are mature leather or other materials: Small, Medium, or Large Spin Tote Bag in Grained Leather, Horse Medal Shoulder Bag in Grained Leather, Horse Medal Crossbody in Grained Leather, Horse Medal Saddle Bag in Grained Leather, Iconic Card Holder in Grained Leather Mulberry: Seems like an entry/newer luxury brand compared to other fashion houses (just learned about Mulberry through this thread), but they also offer some styles using cow/bovine leather which is appreciated. Some examples: Bayswater Tote, Small or Regular Lana Top Handle, Small or Regular Lyra Bucket submitted by /u/cariboujello to r/handbags [link] [comments]

Steampunk-inspired leather bag or how I call it, soft steampunk.
A bag with steampunk elements but softened enough to wear casually. The copper parts are made from plumbing supplies. The body is a type of crazy horse leather, while the accents and straps use a semi-vegan tan leather. Would love to hear what you'd tweak or keep the same. Bag like this but genuine leather
Was in love with this Freja bag until found out that it is vegan leather. Now looking for something similar but genuine leather — durability being on the list of priorities. Long handles and the medium size are a must. I also really like the espresso colour (although would be equally fond of dark red) and the cool yet practical closure. The shape is great but U am open to other shapes as long as it is elegant (do not like half moons, for example — sorry) submitted by /u/Lilychka7 to r/handbags [link] [comments]

Is it more sustainable to buy real leather that will last 15+ years when taken care of, or vegan leather that will only last 5 years max?
Im looking for a briefcase/messenger bag as a reward for my 3 month sobriety, but I’m having a dilemma about the sustainability of which bag to get. I’m vegetarian and always try to shop sustainably, but the more I look into it, it seems like getting real leather will be more sustainable but I’m not sure. I feel guilty about getting leather but my logical side is thinking about the question of is it more sustainable and ethical to get a item that I’ll be using most days that will last me many many years if looked after, or buying vegan and what at first sounds more ethical, but it will only last up to 5 years tops and will probably end up in the ocean. Plus thinking about the price of having to replace it and again, tossing things sooner. Just finished a batch of leather bags - my hands feel like they went through a meat grinder
Just finished a batch of leather bags - my hands feel like they went through a meat grinder Lord of the rings themed messenger bags. Done! These bags take hours to make. All handmade - tooled, dyed, painted, stitched, laced… my hands hurt! Made using genuine veg tan cowhide (not vegan), dyes, paints, finishers, waxed thread, lace, hardware….. blood, sweat and tears. 🩸 Now back to work! submitted by /u/Mrhydez to r/somethingimade [link] [comments]

AITA for being a vegan who carries a leather purse?
Look, I get it. I sound like an asshole, but here's the thing: I inherited a beautiful classic vintage leather purse from my mother. I was raised vegetarian but become vegan in my early adulthood because I really did not see a need for animal products in my life at all. But this purse. This bag has a very recognizable silhouette, and it's absolutely beautiful and functional, and most importantly, it was a staple of my late mother's wardrobe for decades. She wore this bag throughout my childhood, and it's the most precious material connection I have to her just because it was so present for my entire life with her. I am delighted to carry it everyday and have this part of her with me. However, like I said, it's an extremely recognizable bag. If you know enough about fashion, you know the brand, and you know that it's leather. I don't believe the brand has ever released a faux leather bag and certainly didn't when my mother bought this one. It's not hard to tell that I'm a hypocritical vegan carrying a leather bag. But really, that doesn't come up a lot. I'm not terribly vocal about my veganism. Until recently, the dissonance has not come up. I recently was invited to the home of a friend of friend for a small group who get together on occasion to cook and learn and share vegan recipes. I figured it would be great way to expand my cooking skills within the limits of veganism so I was excited. However, one woman there (someone neither nor my friend knew prior) absolutely cornered me about the bag. I tried to explain that it was my mother's and that I don't otherwise partake in using animal products. Well, she told the host who flipped shit. It turned into a rant about people who explore veganism as a fad diet, continue to support industries that are abusive, etc. I apologized and left. Sure, I'll never be returning there regardless of my judgement, but my friend is now upset with me. She knows about it being my mother's bag and she's never had an issue with it before, but now she tells me she thinks it's disgusting and that I am being shitty for using it. I don't know, I mean this bag has more sentimental value than anything else I own, and the animal died for this bag before I was born. I never thought about it too much before. I don't know what to do, as many of friends are vegans and are friendly with the people at the get-together. AITA? tl;dr I am a vegan who hangs around another vegans frequently, but I carry my late mother's vintage leather purse submitted by /u/topoftheocean to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
