My small art business is dying, why is there no European alternative to Etsy?
I’ve been selling my art prints on Etsy for about two years, and around 90% of my customers have been from the US. Since the de minimis exemption ended and new tariffs were introduced, my sales have dropped noticeably. Why do so few Europeans buy art on Etsy? And why hasn’t there been a proper European platform for genuine, human-made art and crafts? Especially now, with AI-generated products flooding online marketplaces, it feels harder than ever for real artists to stay visible and make a living. submitted by /u/eyed_art to r/BuyFromEU [link] [comments]

Finally hit $1000 in my Etsy shop! With only 2 products 🥹
My shop has been open ~7 months now, so not an incredible number, but I'm so happy there are people that like my product 🥹 Really, it's only 1 product that got me the sales, the other was me creating a listing off something included in my main one, and it has made only around ~$40 of the $1000 Hoping to create more soon if my full time job will let up. Just wanted to share my happiness :,> I think my unique strength here is that I focus on making my product both aesthetic and usable / functional. I also focus strongly on making it neuro-divergent / ADHD accessible. I do not have a social media strategy and have been bad about posting. 3 months on Etsy — NO (barely) views and it is eating me alive
I am not exaggerating. I am not saying I’ve never failed with a startup before (I’ve tried different *legitimate online business ideas since I turned 9). I understand many people in the last few weeks have asked similar question but I’m trying to understand what the reason is for my case. \* Is it possible to be shadowbanned* (shop deemed as inactive) on Etsy? If not—what am I doing wrong? \* Should I change my niche* Are digital products (mostly invites) too oversaturated? Those might sound like a stupid, desperate questions. For you to better understand, this is the timeline: - JAN 30 - My mom impulsively opens an Etsy shop at a Chili’s and I realize it’s a good idea - JAN 31 - She posts her first listing (a travel content guide) Then she never posts again. That’s when I take it over. Originally, I tried to stick to the travel niche but it was too time consuming to do. I also felt intimidated by my would-have-been competitor’s advanced products. - FEBRUARY ? - I post my first listing, baby shower games (did product research but I didn’t understand the concept) - MARCH ? - I start posting consistently (1 a day) but then give up and take a two week break because I got absolutely no views After the hiatus, up to now, I’ve been posting consistently eeeeeevery day. I can now put more listings out (5 a day) because what I do now, mostly invites, are easy to make in bulk. I now do product research (with FOUR different tools and multiple emails) and try to stick to what’s trendy and low in competitors, but also not too complex. My marketing is organic (just started on TikTok too). Absolutely 0 capital. I intended to accumulate at least 3 sales, pay for a SEO tool, then end up making more money to pay for ads. But things aren’t going as planned. My views are starting to pick up a little. Now I get, ON A GOOD DAY, 3 a day. I can’t even feel confident looking at my analytics because this month, my mother assisted me by posting the link on her Facebook and Instagram accounts (800K followers combined) which is travel related. People viewed some things and clearly weren’t interested. After the stories expired my views obviously went back to normal. It has also come to my attention that some of my views might be bots as I don’t see all of them reflected. I miss out on activities and am avoidant in texting people whilst working on things I’m adamant on finishing. I’m working on the balance and the invites have aided in letting it be less hectic. Just think about how I endure all this just to make 25 cents from a sale. I wake up to Etsy and go to sleep to Etsy. Additionally, a month prior to me taking up Etsy as a hobby, I invested in a sewing machine and started making garments (specifically cute bikinis). I have completely put that on pause because of this unsuccessful venture. That’s probably what I would sell if anybody tells me this won’t work out. There are so many other things that I can and want to do while failure is unfortunately eating my soul. I don’t only need criticism. If you have any motivational experiences to share they’d be appreciated 🙏 Please let me know if I’m expecting too much. QUESTIONS What inspired you to create this shop? I don’t have a sob story. I just want to eventually bring in passive income—my own at that. I’ve always been okay at graphic design and I’m using that in making these Canva templates. Why do you feel your products are worthy of being purchased? How do they stand out from competitors? My prices are DIRT cheap. I literally just want people to buy and leave a couple of reviews. Right now, I don’t care how much Etsy takes and how much I’ll get. My listing photos are also of higher quality than some ( if I do say so myself ) https://curatedbykarell.etsy.com submitted by /u/Last_Sleep_100110 to r/EtsySellers [link] [comments]

AITJ for telling my friend her "handmade" Etsy shop is literally just AliExpress dropshipping
my friend has been running this Etsy shop for like 8 months now, constantly posting on instagram about her "small business" and how everything is "handcrafted with love" and asking people to support her journey blah blah i bought one of her resin keychains as a gift for my sister (like $14) and when it arrived i recognized it immediately bc i had seen the exact same keychain, same mold, same color swirls, on AliExpress for $1.20. did a reverse image search and found her entire shop catalog on there lol confronted her privately and she admitted she just buys bulk from AliExpress and relists them. fine whatever, people do that but the "handmade" thing is genuinely illegal on etsy and she's charging people 10x the price based on a lie she kept brushing it off so i finally told her i wasnt going to keep quiet about it especially bc she was actively encouraging people to buy from her instead of "soulless corporations" to support a real maker now shes saying i betrayed her and that i should mind my own business bc she has like $3k saved up from Stаke and the shop is her main income i get that people need money and ive been there, ive had months where i was budgeting every single dollar just to get by, but lying to your customers and calling yourself a small artisan when ur literally just a reseller feels wrong to me her boyfriend also texted me saying i was jealous of her success which, okay AITJ? submitted by /u/TangerineUnique248 to r/AmITheJerk [link] [comments]

Do we trust Etsy?
Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase an engagement ring and I found the most beautiful one on Etsy, however I am a tiny bit suspicious. It’s £884 for 3 CT Moissanite 14K yellow gold ring. Is that possible? It says the delivery is from India, could it be that gold and gems are cheaper there? Now I’m out money and can’t gift this to my husband, which sucks because I know he would have loved it. I’ve used Etsy for years and I’ve never had this issue until now submitted by /u/User091822 to r/Wellthatsucks [link] [comments]

Recently purchased Christmas stocking faces opposite direction, all bought from same Etsy shop.
Names are only on one side of the stocking. We only noticed as my wife was hanging it. She isn't amused but I think we should keep it like that lol we're sure if we reach out to the shop we might get some help but we're not losing our minds over having to buy a new one Edit: wow, I started replying to comments early on but I couldn't keep up. a couple of things: 1- I realized after it got called out that I should've used a different color to blur the names lol sorry about that and unintentionally making people go crazy 2- For all the redditors that replied with how we can fix it, I truly appreciate taking time to explain and guide on what we should do DIY-wise. We're not good with sewing in general except for closing up the occasional hole in pants, shirts, etc. 3- The names are heat pressed and not stitched in. It dawned on us yesterday that we can just buy a set of heat pressed letters to match and do it ourselves. I posted the photo the day they were put up and haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet. If I get my way, it's staying that way for dramatic effect lol 4- We're going to be reaching out to the Etsy shop to see if they can help out. It's not a big deal nor is it make or break for Christmas. Not sure if anyone cares for an update but I'll try. 5- For all the people who found this funny, shared their story, laughed with us...thank you! For all the people who came in to call me out, call me an "attention seeking whore", or "gay" (?)...you do you. This is the "well that sucks" sub and not the "OMG this is ruining Christmas now" sub. Next time use one of your remaining two brain cells to keep scrolling. submitted by /u/slappadik to r/Wellthatsucks [link] [comments]

I’M 2 YEARS ON ETSY - HERE’S WHAT I REALIZED TO GET A MINIMUM OF 3K PER MONTH PER 1 SHOP
I’ve been on Etsy for 2 years. When I launched my very first shop, I got just 1 sale in the first month. After years of testing and learning the platform, my 6th shop did 180 sales in its first month. With the right strategy, sales grow month after month after launch. Here’s what it really takes to reach 3k a month: Daily posting. Add new listings every day. Refresh old ones (photos/tags/descriptions) from time to time. The algorithm loves activity. Product selection = competitor analysis. I use eRank to study competitors’ bestsellers and only post products that already have proven demand -then I remix them into my own version (design, bundle, offer). Discounts are strategy, not decoration. But also, I’ve seen a shop with 40k sales that didn’t run “% off” but used a bundle offer like “Take 2 posters and get 50% off the pair.” It is also good strategy haha. Don’t “sleep” after launch. Many people open a shop and then post nothing for weeks. Etsy gives you a Start boost - if you miss that window, it’s harder later. Bad start? Reset fast. If your shop is cold for 1-3 months with no clear reason, close it and reopen with a sharper niche, storefront, and strategy. It’s faster than trying to revive a dead listing set. (I had this situation before) Consistency or nothing. My friend hit 1k in first month with 3 bestseller listings. When those cooled off, she stopped uploading. She doing one listing a week, and it isn’t enough. Daily momentum = steady growth. A note on timing This month many sellers (me included) noticed odd shifts - sales dipped like Etsy tweaked something so much. If you’re about to start, consider waiting a couple of weeks for stability. Use that time to prep listings, bundle offers, and your daily posting plan. I have my own paid cheap on this topic, but I'm not linking it here to follow sub rules. Let me know what you think about :) submitted by /u/PianoIndividual1773 to r/passive_income [link] [comments]

Why I made the painful decision to close my successful Etsy shop.
I have loved my Etsy shop and put my heart and soul into building it up starting in 2020. I say it was successful because almost 5 years in and I’m close to 200k in sales total. I have had over 20 bestsellers during that time as well. I have never ran ads, all my sales have been organic. I hand-make home decor items in my home based craft room. Just me, and some help from my husband. In 2021 I have a single listing go viral and sales started pouring in. I did 20k in sales in just one month because of it. My husband and I worked 12-16 hr days for weeks to keep up. It was exhausting and amazing, we paid off our car loan. Then after that great success the knock offs started to really ramp up. I continued to create very successful items for my shop, more bestselling designs. And they stole everything. Every design, even the poor selling ones. Every photo I posted to my shop or social media. When I started adding videos to my listings they stole those too. They listed their knock off versions of my items for sale on every discount platform you can think of. I tried my best to file takedowns for IP infringement. I did hundreds of takedowns. It was too much to keep up with. I’m trying to make crafts, fill orders, work on new designs, editing photos, being a mom. There just wasn’t enough time to keep up with the endless stream of IP thefts. Then Etsy started shutting down some of my listings because of stolen photos they saw on other platforms. I fought for months to get these listings reinstated, which I finally did. But after that a shift happened in me. I didn’t want to put my ideas out there anymore to just be snatched up. All my hours of hard work just snatched up with the click of a mouse by some random thief. My heart just wasn’t in it anymore, I felt discouraged, frustrated, defeated, with the thieves and Etsy’s policies both working against me. For months I mulled over in my mind what I wanted to do while still filling orders. The beginning of February this year I finally made my decision. Orders were still pouring in steady every day, but I closed my shop. I got a new job, and I like it. But my craftroom is still sitting there with all my equipment and supplies. Sorta just frozen in time collecting dust. Update: I wasn’t expecting so much response to my post, it really brought up a lot of feelings for me and thoughts to reflect on. I have taken the time to read through almost all of the comments. I think my story really struck a chord with many in the Etsy community because so many of us have had a similar experience. It’s really good to read your comments and know that I’m not alone, but also super heartbreaking that so many creators have also been devastated by IP theft. A couple answers to questions that have been asked a lot. Yes I did put watermarks on all my photos and videos, but it didn’t seem to help. Yes I did consider building my own website, I even registered a domain name and started working on it. But I ended up choosing not to go through with transitioning over. Even though I had many repeat customers and a decent social media following, the move is not an easy one. There is a huge learning curve with SEO and advertising that I just didn’t have the mental energy at the time to jump into. I had all my sales coming organically through Etsy without paying for any advertising, and that’s not something I could easily re-create with my own website, maybe not even at all to the same level. Etsy can be a wonderful platform to sell on and it has a lot of upsides that worked well for me for a long time. My Etsy shop brought steady income, if not including the one time I went viral, it was equivalent to a decent part time job. And now I have replaced that income with my new job and it’s going well. I think I’m still sad about it though to some extent, because the part of me I left behind. I had put everything of myself and my creativity into building something that was my own. The hardest part about stepping away has been the process to emotionally disconnect from my shop. And I think that’s why I haven’t moved any of my crafting stuff, because in the back of my mind I still want to keep that door cracked open a bit. That brings me to the last question asked, would you consider in person craft shows. And yes I would and have done one before that went well. It’s not something I’m working on currently, but I haven’t ruled it out for the future. submitted by /u/utahmom81 to r/Etsy [link] [comments]

Took me 4 months to get my first sale on Etsy. Now Im averaging $2.3k/month. Heres how I actually got here.
Im not one of those guys that miraculously made $3,500 in my first week lol. My shop took close to 4 months just for me to make my first sale. I never gave up though and now Im at the point where Im making consistent sales, so, heres some helpful advice I learned along the way: Price for profit: I couldn't really celebrate making my first ~14 sales because I realized that I had underpriced my product. I factored in materials, but I didn't factor in shipping costs and Etsy's cut. Once I fixed my pricing, I started making money. Use SEO tools to find the right keywords for your product: Tools like eRank or Marmalead show you what buyers are actually searching for. Take those keywords and put them in your title, tags, and descriptions to get found without paying for ads. If you have a seasonal product, use Pinterest Trends (I can't prove this but I believe that theres a direct correlation between what people are searching on Pinterest and Etsy). And don't overlook Etsy's own search bar. Its a free and works well. 3. Track your conversion rate: If you're receiving views but no sales, it's usually pricing, photos, or the products description. Fix those first. DO NOT RUN ADS UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS ARE SET UP CORRECTLY. I wasted so much money because of this smh. 4. Reinvest in (and bundle) your best sellers. Three of my products were selling well, but instead of doubling down on them, I wasted time and money launching 3 new products that flopped in an attempt to make more money. If you have products that are already doing well, lean into them. Bundle them together and discount the package. This will definitely increase order value. 5. Repurpose your content everywhere: You can turn one Etsy product photo into Pinterest pins, TikToks, or Instagram/facebook ads. My most viral TikTok is literally just a slideshow of product shots with trending audio lol. You don't need a production ready video to promote your content. A good product shot will take you far. 6. Make the money you've invested in your shop back: Keep track of literally everything you spend money on. Do not ignore the little stuff like how much tape, packaging, or software costs; the coffee you bought to have energy to work, your internet bill, rent, etc. Nearly everything going towards your business can be written off. I don't have an accountant or bookkeeper so I use Deduct AI because it tracks all my expenses an auto-tags purchases that can be legally written off (Quickbooks is a good alternative too) Hope this helps! submitted by /u/LootManVan to r/passive_income [link] [comments]
