Got cooking spoons for mother’s day, what’s an equally bad father’s day gift to gift?
I came home from work on Mother’s day and got a set of wooden cooking spoons from my husband. They weren’t even wrapped and were literally bought an hour before i got home. I’m tired of putting effort in and get thoughtful gifts to not receive it back. So what would be the equivalent to gift him for father’s day? submitted by /u/cxxlbeans to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

AIO if I don't include my husband in the delivery room over a mother's day argument.
My husband and I have been married for 17 years. We're expecting our 7th and last child in October. For mother's day this year he of course put little effort into my special day. Instead he gifted his mom a $250 spa gift card. We lost our 6 year old daughter last month due to HLHS, all I wanted for Mother's day was some recognition. When I asked where my gift was, he told me the gift was this pregnancy and I should be grateful for the pregnancy despite him wanting to be done. Which offended me to the core. We had a silent treatment from Sunday to Wednesday then talked things out and he apologized. His words still damaged me severely and I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I want to share the delivery with him. I'm just not sure if it's the hormones that's making me feel like this. AIO? I can take honesty. EDIT: No I didn't "force him" to create this baby. I was content with our 6 kids, a 7th was in the air, but I was nervous to try again because our delivery with our youngest was pretty traumatic. Plus I suffered severe PPD with our youngest. She had severe colic and wasn't reaching milestones. I hired a midwife and doula at the start of my pregnancy so it'll work out regardless of my decision. We also have custody of my twin brother's 2 year old son, which has caused us enough stress. So this baby wasn't necessarily planned, I didn't maliciously force him into this. When we both should be held responsible. Also would like to add that I'm not staying with him for his money. I grew up in a broken family. I don't want the same thing for our 5 girls and son. I've been really trying to find God in my life and expose my children to religion. Divorce is immoral in my opinion and shouldn't be glamorized. I can barely take care of myself due to having debilitating depression time to time, I don't see myself being a single parent. Our marriage isn't pitch perfect but no ones marriage is if we're being technical. submitted by /u/Kenz090_ to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

AIO my mom threw the gift I gave her for Mother’s Day in the trash
We don’t have a good relationship in general, but we had been talking and things seemed okay, so I wasn’t expecting that reaction. I didn’t go see her because I don’t like my stepfather, it’s his house, and he once said he didn’t want me there. I’m not a bad daughter at all, and I always remember these special dates. I knew I shouldn’t have given her anything because she has always been ungrateful, and tbh, I just blocked her and don’t wanna talk to her anymore. I’m really upset and sad. She’s Catholic, so I gave her an accessory of the patron saint of my country (she loves Holy Mary and such) and a cute pair of earrings. My sis took them out of the trash, and I told her she could keep them. My sis told me not to be sad, and that she reacted that way probably because I hadn't gone there, but I still don't think that's justified. I texted her earlier today wishing her a happy Mother's Day and she didn't reply submitted by /u/Nefertari777 to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

AIO by telling my husband that since we had our baby, Mother’s Day is now my day (his wife) and not his Moms day?
This is my first Mother’s Day, my husband is upset that I don’t want to spend it with his mom and go to her church and then brunch after. But that I’d rather sleep in and have a slow morning at home with him and our daughter. AIO by telling him that since we had our baby Mother’s Day is now my day( his wife) and not his mom’s day? Please let me know Let me clarify: of course we can spend time with her on mother’s days, we always write a heartfelt card and give gifts and flowers. It’s just now that I’m also a mother I should At least have a say in what we do for Mother’s Day. submitted by /u/pagengirl818 to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

Every year my dad reminds us to celebrate our mom for Mother’s Day while ignoring the fact that two of his daughters are mothers, too.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my mom and always celebrate her. But every year my dad sends this reminder to all the siblings and somehow never acknowledges that two of his daughters are moms too now. It’s such a small thing, but after a while it starts to feel weirdly hurtful. Also, tomorrow is Saturday. Mother’s Day is literally Sunday. So somehow none of the mothers won here. 💀 Edit: Some of y’all are reading way deeper into this than intended. I’m not upset because I expected gifts, money, flowers, or some huge celebration from my dad. My sister and I are both happily celebrated by our husbands and children already. The irony I was pointing out is simply that every year he sends a group reminder to all of us kids about Mother’s Day while seemingly forgetting that two of his daughters are mothers too now. It was more of a “well that’s awkwardly funny and mildly hurtful at the same time” post than a “poor me, where are my presents?” post. Also yes, I still celebrate and appreciate my mom, despite her request for us to not do or get anything for her. 😅 Edit: I’m not expecting a celebration or a gift from him, or even a simple card; but a simple “Happy Mother’s Day” to the mother of his grandchildren to acknowledge we’re mother’s too would suffice. submitted by /u/danie11achristine to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

[New Update] My husband (38m) screamed at me (41f) over Mother’s Day.
DO NOT COMMENT ON LINKED POSTS. I am NOT OP. Original post by u/Beautiful_Dare_3751 in r/relationship_advice trigger warnings: verbal abuse, emotional abuse, unsupportive spouse, unsupportive MIL, adultery mood spoilers: sad, but appears to have gotten better after all... maybe? Previous BORU Here To avoid confusion, in the UK and some other places outside of North America Mother's Day is celebrated in March, not May. My husband (38m) screamed at me (41f) over Mother’s Day. - March 19, 2023 I got up this morning around 8 with my husband and there was no mention of it being Mother’s Day. That’s fine, we carried on our morning exactly the same as any other weekend morning. I did the washing, made breakfast and put a roast in the oven. My husband spent some of his morning looking for a car for our son who is 17 (his broke down a few days ago and isn’t worth repairing). At around 1pm I decided to go and dye my eyebrows but as I was getting my stuff ready, my husband tells me I should go back downstairs and help our son get some quotes for insurance. His policy is a multi car policy on my insurance so I would need to do it for him. I explained that I was busy but my husband shouted at me that I need to go downstairs and help our son. I was so upset at this point that nobody had even mentioned Mother’s Day that I called them both dicks for being so inconsiderate. At that point my husband went mental with me and screamed that I’m not his mother so why would he do anything for me? He told me I was weird for even suggesting it and that I was a weirdo for being annoyed that he wished his own mum a Happy Mother’s Day. He did in fact put a post on his Facebook page telling her she’s the best for everything she does for him (that did irk me because since we’ve been together it’s me that does everything for him). I wasn’t annoyed he wished her a Happy Mother’s Day, it sounds stupid but I was upset that he’d tagged her. Whenever he puts a post about us, he never tags me he just calls me the wife. I just feel that at every opportunity his mum gets better treatment than me. Anyway, he then shouted that my son is old enough to do something for me without my him being involved (totally agree with this, I am upset with him too) and to stop making everything about me. I was so shocked to hear this that I said I wouldn’t bother about his birthday tomorrow then. He screamed that was fine, he wasn’t expecting anything anyway because I have nothing to give him. I’ve never felt so hurt and unappreciated with his comments. So did I do something wrong here? I never expected a gift or anything of any value but it would have made me feel appreciated if there had been some effort, even just a kiss to say I’m a good mum. I intend to show him this post because he doesn’t believe husbands should appreciate their partners on Mother’s Day so I’d like to hear others’ views. Thanks UPDATE In my original post I talked about our son who is 17. After my husband had read your comments he wanted me to let you know that he is not my son’s dad and just the step dad. My husband has been in his life since he was 10 and has always treated him like a son and has been there through many huge milestones. I didn’t feel the need to put that he was the step dad because I don’t see him like that and I didn’t realise that’s how he seen our son. He tells everyone he’s OURS! Apparently it will make a different to your opinions. I really apologise if I misled anyone, it wasn’t my intention I just really see him as his dad. Like I’ve said in my comments below, he has done stuff for Mother’s Day previously. This just feels like a final kick in the teeth. Update comment UPDATE My husband (38m) screamed at me (41f) over Mother’s Day. - March 21, 2023 Firstly, thank you all so so much for the kind words, advice and love you sent me on Sunday. I was overwhelmed with the response I received so couldn’t reply to all comments. I thought you all deserved an update around what happened afterwards. Unfortunately things got a bit worse on Sunday evening with some pretty nasty stuff been thrown my way. My husband told me the reason he was so resentful towards me was because he helped me financially for a few months after several things happened at once. We moved house, I changed jobs which meant a change in pay date for me and also a few weeks without a salary (which he knew about, it was planned for and he told me he’d cover) then my car had a major break down which he paid to have fixed. This is the first time that he’s helped me financially, we’ve always split everything 50/50. Basically he’s annoyed that he lost money that he’ll never get back. In our early days I helped him when he didn’t have much. I helped him set up his business which is doing really well now and I look after all of his accounts, wages, invoices, VAT returns etc without a wage. So him telling me he resented me for helping me, really really hurt because I’m his wife and I’ve lost count how many hours I’ve also put into his business. When we talked about it yesterday I told him his behaviour towards me is unacceptable and I won’t tolerate it anymore. I told him he can’t resent me for helping me, it’s his bloody job just like it’s mine to help him when I can. I told him he needs to get some professional help because his behaviour isn’t acceptable. I’ve wondered for a long time if there’s some undiagnosed condition. He agreed that he knows he needs some help and acknowledged he knows what he’s done and said is wrong. So I’ve given him 1 week to find someone and book an appointment. If he does this I’ll support him to work through his past (he was emotionally abused by his step dad) and hopefully we’ll have a stronger marriage. Or he’ll conveniently forget about what he’s promised and continue being horrible to me. If he chooses this option what he won’t realise is that I won’t argue with him about it or cry, I’ll simply be making a plan to leave. I’ll give him a chance because I love him but I won’t waste my life on someone who doesn’t want or respect me. As for his mother, her response to our fight was that it’s my behaviour that’s a problem and he should go and stay with her. That relationship for me is now dead, I’ll be polite but that’s it. Thanks again for all your support. It’s really made me realise I have options. NEW UPDATE: AITAH because I think it's unfair my (F,44) husband (M,41) wants to use his only week off in a year to go on holiday with his friend and not me? - December 21, 2025 (Over two years later) Reddit, I need your honest opinion on this one. My husband and I have been together 10 years, married 7 and have a pretty normal relationship. nothing major has ever happened. We both work, have decent salaries which are similar so we don't really struggle. My husband has his own business which on top of my own full time job, I manage all his finances, invoices, accounts etc. I don't get paid and I don't want paid either, it's our business so it's in my best interests for it to do well. We have two employees who are young/apprentices so not able to work without my husband being with them. This is the issue, because my husband is self employed he rarely takes time off for holidays. He'll sometimes take days off through the week when the weather is poor and he'll go off for the day on his electric MTB, I have no issues with this. Over the last five years we've been on holiday once, which was last year for a week and he's thinking about taking another week off this year in the summer. Here's where we don't agree, he's wanting to go off on his own to visit his friend in France with his bike. In any other situation I wouldn't even comment on him going, my problem is he won't take any more holidays to go with me at a different time. So in effect, we won't go on holiday together until 2027! I think this is unreasonable, I would always prioritise him and our son over my friends. I manage such a large part of his business but in return he doesn't even want to go on holiday with me and I've even offered to pay! So AITAH that I think he shouldn't be prioritising his friend when he only takes one holiday a year? Just to be clear, I've never said he can't go and never would, he's free to do as he pleases but I wouldn't be happy about it. There's nothing stopping him taking more time off, he could even go for a long weekend to France but nope, he wants the week. EDIT My husband knows about this post and has asked me to update the post with some info. His friend is his only friend and he's moved to France and he only sees him when he comes back to the UK usually once a year. He says he has no other friends to do anything with which is why he wants to go on holiday next year with his friend. EDIT 2 UPDATE Firstly, let me thank everyone who has commented. I wanted to know if the problem was with me or him and it definitely feels like it's with him so I feel completely validated with how I feel. Secondly, it was becoming too difficult to respond to everyone so I thought I'd give an update here, plus clear a few things up. We have booked to go to Val D'isere in March for 5 days to go skiing etc and to visit his friend as that's where he lives. We've got a hire car so we can explore the area as well as my husband getting to hang out with his friend. I have no issue with chilling in our hotel room one evening while he goes out with his friend for food/drinks and I don't mind doing a bit of skiing with his friend either. There will still be plenty of time for us to have 'quality time'. We've also booked our summer holiday to go to Greece for 10 days in a villa with a hire car. He read most of your comments are said he knew he was being a dick but he was just trying to get his point across that he doesn't see his friend that often because of where he lives, apparently he was 'hypothetically' saying that if he only had the time for one holiday, why couldn't he do what he wanted? We've talked about it and he knows how it made me feel, he apologised and that's why we've booked a few holidays. Now, for all the other stuff. In my original post I said he was a good husband, we didn't really fight, nothing else major had happened. This is true! I've seen a lot of comments saying he doesn't like me, he doesn't spend time with me, I'm his free labour and I do all the housework? None of this is true! Housework is split although I probably do more out of choice as I like things is a particular way. He's very hands on though and will regularly load/unload the dishwasher, put the washing machine on etc. Plus he does ALL of the garden work as he loves it, I don't! We do also spend time together, we often spend weekends hiking or go for days out it was the holidays that stopped because of his business. In relation to me not being paid - I can't reiterate this enough. This is MY choice. I'm already a higher tax payer so I don't want paid to lose even more in tax. I do my husband's accounts and without going into detail, there's a reason I don't take money. Like I said, I do get other benefits though. Finally, thank you all for commenting as it was all your comments that made him realise on this occasion he was being a bit of a twat (but I think he knew this) he's not always a twat though! Most of the time he's good to me but people have shit days and sometimes say and do stuff they regret. I'm not a perfect wife either, I probably snap too much and want things a certain way. There is one thing I'm certain of though, I know he loves me and that we are each other's best friends! Comment giving insight into OOP's son's dad - March 26, 2026 I've been where you are and was a similar age. I had been with my son's dad since I was 22 and within a year I was pregnant with our son. It wasn't long after my son was born I started thinking that I wasn't attracted to him anymore, not with how he looked it was more his personality. I told him how I felt when I was sure but he would do anything and everything he could to keep us together. Money was joint (I was only working PT because I went back to Uni) and he made it impossible to untangle finances so that I could be free. Or he'd take our son to my parents and tell them I wanted to leave him and split our family up so they put pressure on me to stay. He'd break down crying on his knees and beg me not to leave, or he'd tell my son I didn't love his daddy anymore so he'd have to move aware. This went on for 9 years. For 9 years I was trapped with a man I didn't love and lost so many of my best years. Until one night I snapped. We were part of a gym (he followed me there after I'd joined and also joined the same club) and went to a lifting club. I was actually very good so started training with the men as I was competition good. That meant I had a coach, the same person who led the club. I also had PT sessions with him so spent a lot of time with him. The inevitable happened and feelings got involved. I tried more than once during this time to break it off with my BF but he just wouldn't accept it. We all went on a Christmas night out, everyone from the club was there including my BF. What happened next is a blur and I don't understand why I did what I did. I was sat at a table with my coach with no idea or care about where my BF was. It was like he didn't exist, I didn't even think about him. We started holding hands under the table, we thought secretly but of course everyone could see, including my BF. His friend came over and told me he'd gone home, I didn't care. I went home with my coach that night. The next morning I was appalled at my behaviour so much so that I knew I was going home to end it for good. I didn't care his he'd try and convince me, I'd crossed a line and done something I've never done before and would never do again. I hate cheating. It was ugly, very ugly. He cried and whaled and was on his knees begging me. I just kept on telling him it was over, I'd crossed a line. I didn't tell him I'd slept with my coach, I didn't want to hurt him but I told him that I couldn't promise I wouldn't in the future which is why we had to end. Everyone fell out with me, my family, friends. I was completely alone and it was my fault. My ex did move away, he joined the Navy so left our son with me. He went from seeing his dad every day to a couple of times a year so the whole time was horrible and my son was heartbroken and it was my fault. Four months after my ex moved out (he took most of our furniture too; sofa, fridge, bed and tv) I met my now husband. I was 34 when I left my ex and was not looking for another partner at all but it happened! We've been together 10 years now, very happily married, he's literally my soulmate. My ex is also happily married and we have a good relationship. My son is 21 now and has another family, my husband raised him from 10 and they also have a good relationship. My point is, don't delay this any longer. Don't lose 9 years of your life like I did. submitted by /u/RGLozWriter to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

AITA for not enjoying the birthday gifts my friend got me that mocked my dead mother
Hi reddit, I'm posting this on a throwaway account due to some of the people involved use reddit. Im re-writing this post because the one I initally wrote would have been too long, so I'm going to summarize the series of events as best as possible. I (20F) lost my mother 8 months ago, suddenly. I have experience a wave of emotion as I had a weird relationship with my mother and a lot of unsaid things. I did not get to say goodbye to her which pains me every. single. day. I have a large group of friends, some from high school and some from uni, who have all supporting me tremendously. One specific friend, Kayla, I met in uni. I would not consider her my best friend, but she has been such an amazing support to me throughout this whole situation with my mom. She always told me I could come to her for anything and would even pull me aside during social events to make sure I was doing okay. Yesterday, my birthday, Kayla and a group of my other friends came over unannounced with party decorations, snacks, and even cake. After the emotional morning I had due to the dread I had for my birthday coming, this made me cry. I felt so seen and loved in this moment. This lasted up until my friends brought gifts they had bought. I opened two gifts before opening Kayla's. It was a large box. I opened it with a huge smile on my face, and my friends all looked excited for me to see what was inside. To my shock, there was a mug and a hoodie. Both had a large, bold font saying "Motherless Behaviour". I was in so much shock I excused myself. I ended up calling it a night and they all left, Kayla muttering "It was supposed to be funny" as she passed by me to leave. This morning I woke up with texts from some of my friends at the party reassuring me Kayla had no ill intent, and then I saw Kayla messaged me. The message was LENGTHY, including many messages saying things like "it was of good intent. You embarassed me. I was trying to lightent the situation." One message in particular that Kayla sent had gotten to me, this message said "after 8 months you should be able to accept your moms death and joke about it. you're self-sabotaging from holding on, and its ruining your friendships." I felt so sick. This question is making me wonder if truly I am the asshole and if I should be over my mothers death. submitted by /u/Immediate-Iron7241 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITAH for not showing more sympathy for my wife when she mangled her hand using a gift from her mother that I told her was dangerous.
My wife will not ever refuse a gift from her mom. And once she accepts it she will be sure to use it. This has never been a problem before. I don't give a shit about how our front yard is infested with gnomes and other ceramic crap. I don't care that we have decorative spoons from around the world. I do care that my mother-in-law gave us a double edged serrated bread knife. I saw a new handle in our knife block so I took it out to look at it. It looked dangerous. I tried cutting some sourdough with it and almost cut myself. I told my wife it was dangerous and we should just put it away. She insisted it was fine and left it. Whatever. I went and told both our kids not to use it. It took five days. My wife was cutting a bagel with the wonder knife and she cut the web between her thumb and forefinger. Deep enough she cut that big tendon too. I heard her screaming and ran to help. I wrapped her hand in clean paper towel and then kitchen towels. We only live few blocks from a hospital so I didn't call 911. I had our son drive us there while I kept her hand elevated and put pressure on it. She has to have surgery on it. I NEVER ONCE SAID I TOLD YOU SO. I also, apparently was not as sympathetic as I could have been. I don't know what else I could have done. I held her hand the whole time. At the hospital I did all the talking while she got admitted. I did not leave her side until we got home. She said she could feel my judgement. I don't know what that means. Mother-in-law intentionally tried to make the bride look ugly in a Christmas gift illustration
I (29F) have been making personalised illustrations for the past 5 years in this wedding industry. I always get some random requests and commissions! And just when I thought I’ve seen it all, I got this peculiar request from a groom’s mother who’s after an illustration which she’ll giving the couple as their first Christmas gift! So, a few weeks ago, I received a message from this woman. She wanted a wedding illustration of 4 people (her + her husband + groom + bride) and gave me a reference picture. Everything looked normal just like any other orders. I asked her if she had any special requests/instructions before asking her for the payment. She requested if I could make the bride look natural? Not too much makeup like the photo”. I thought okay, probably the mua did overdo her makeup a bit. And I said “sure! Definitely can do! No problem”. Later she proceeded with the full payment and I confirmed the order! So far so good! Then I begin with the illustration and after a few days I completed it. I sent her a draft to do a review for any possible changes or adjustments. She almost immediately replied with a heaps of changes and that’s all on the bride! She said that the bride’s smile looked too big and it needed to be soften. Her blushes from the cheeks needed to be removed, eyeliners needed to be thin and so on! Her accurate words were “her smile needs to be polite not so glamorous like the photo. That’s not her natural smile”. It seemed really weird to me so I requested for some additional photos of the bride. She then sent me a few more pictures of the bride later that night. And I straightaway noticed that the bride’s smile on the illustration looked very very similar to all the other pictures as well! So I asked her again if she could clarify what she meant by “polite smile”. She then said (her own words) “X’s smile looks too wide in the pictures but she’s not the most smiling type of person in everyday life. Please make it soft along with the specified changes I mentioned earlier”. And she also asked me to draw a completely different hairstyle and provided a ref photo. This was a new request which wasn’t previously mentioned. She said that the bride complained about her hairstyle on the wedding day and wanted something different. I replied that “okay! I’ll do my best and will send you the revised version tomorrow.” So, after making all the requested adjustments, I sent her the 2nd draft for a review. She still complained about how the bride looked but at the end she was okay with it. She then asked me to remove some details from the bride’s dress by saying “the details on the dress looks too noisy. Please remove the floral patterns from it and make it plain”. I was really surprised by that because almost every one of my clients always love the detailings that I do on their dresses. So I replied “are you sure? It took me a lot of time drawing those details on the dress and usually my clients love it. And I really think your daughter in law would love it too”. But she still insisted on keeping it plain. The next day I made the changes again. And at this time I felt bad for the bride because now she just looks like a normal girl with a white gown. None of her bridal features from the wedding pictures remained on my illustration. But this what the client asked and I obliged till that point. Anyways I sent this 3rd draft to her and this time she said something which completely shocked me. She said “everything looks fine. Can you just make the bride chubbier? She’s not that thin in real life.” And this is when I completely lost it. Until that point I had some doubts but that time I was 100% certain that she was trying to make her own d-i-l look ugly on purpose. I straightaway replied to her “Sorry Mam! I won’t be able to make that kind of changes on my illustration. It seems to me that you’re trying to make the bride look ugly on purpose. And I cannot do that. Please show the illustration to your daughter-in- law and send her our details. If she wants to make any changes on it, I’ll be more than happy to do so”. I could sense that my response made her pretty mad! She immediately asked for a full refund and accused me of ruining her Christmas gift. I politely told her that there will be no refund on the illustration since I spent hours on perfecting it according to her instructions. And I stated my previous point again that if her daughter-in-law wants to make any changes, I’ll happily do so. Then I emailed her the original illustration (the 1st draft where the bride looked like the ones from the photo) and closed the order. She later threatened to take me to the small claim court for ruining her Christmas surprise. I, later showed the illustration to my girl-friends and they all agreed with me. My husband also said that this woman is an evil and I should focus on the other orders that I have pending. submitted by /u/Mik_0010 to r/weddingshaming [link] [comments]

Me and my sibling crossdressing as a "present" to our mom for Mother's Day (c. 2004)
I'm the one on the left. I really couldn't tell you why, but we decided that we could swap wardrobes and present ourselves to our mom as a gift for Mother's Day. Apparently Pringles are for boys. That was intentional. I padded the dress with bars of soap. submitted by /u/curlyheadedfuck123 to r/blunderyears [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling my daughter to keep her Father’s Day gift to herself because she hid her mother’s affair from me for months?
My ex wife (40F) and I (41M) have been divorced for a year now because she had an affair. She herself confessed to her affair a year later and moved in with her affair partner, who she’s also now married to. I was pretty distraught with the whole thing. We also have a daughter (17F). My daughter knew about the affair but she told me she hid it from me because she didn’t want to breakup the family. It really hurt me that she hid it from me for so long but I moved on. My daughter still apologies for it but I’ve told her it’s alright. My daughter today gave me a Father’s Day gift which was a handwritten letter and a gift. However, I was in no mood for gifts so I told her to keep it to herself. My daughter seemed a bit shocked and she went to her room, and I think she was crying as she went to her room. Was I the AH? submitted by /u/FarAppearancess to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for throwing away my husband's father's day gifts after what he did on mother's day?
My husband and I have 2 kids (6yo boy and 8mo girl). He told me for two weeks leading up to mothers day that he had an entire weekend planned for me. This is NOT normal, but there's been years in the past where I did complain and feel hurt because he didn't really do much of anything for me on Mother's Day but I always went all out for him on Father's Day and I just felt unappreciated. So I'm thinking that he finally understood where I was coming from and was going to make it special for me this year. I quite literally ONLY asked for a massage and he repeatedly said that he couldn't just give me a massage because it "wasn't enough". So like.. idk. At this point I'm truly thinking this man went all out. Anyways, Friday rolls around and a bunch of people start showing up. He invited a good 10-15 people over. I think I knew 2 people. He called it the "Mother's Day bonfire". We had a fire alright, but I was the one who chased the kids around all evening (my 6yo, while holding the baby, and some other persons 2 kids because they weren't watching them) and quite literally no one spoke to me. I wasn't acknowledged until the very end of the evening and that was by my husband buddy who told me he was "stealing" my husband to go out four wheeling. It's like 11pm at this point and everyone (except me) was drinking. I said my husband wasn't going anywhere. I even said this to my husband. "You're drinking, you're not going anywhere". He took that as a "oh, I need to find a DD and then I can go". So, he asked the neighbor to drive him around and took off with everyone. I'm extremely hurt at this point because this was my promised weekend and I got stuck with other people's kids, wasn't spoken to at all, had a mess to clean up and now my husband is taking off. I explain how hurt I am the next morning. He says he gets it and apologizes and says he just had too much to drink and wasn't really thinking clearly. Okay, I get it. It's whatever. We didn't do anything Saturday because he spent half the day sleeping off a hangover. Well, yesterday rolls around and his boss calls him at 6am and asks him to come in to work because they are short staffed and he said yes? So I expressed hurt and said "but it's Mother's Day". And he says "I know, I'm sorry, I just don't want to pass up the opportunity for more hours". Which, I get that too. So, whatever. He gets home at 5pm and starts getting the kids dressed and ushered toward the door so I'm thinking we are finally going to celebrate. We end up going on a walk (I love walking) but 5 minutes in and he's complaining and has us turn around because of the black flies (they weren't even bad). So again, I'm disappointed. When we get back home he lays down on the couch and says "oh your gift is in the truck". So I go down and it's a $5 storage container for sugar/flour. I do like stuff like this but I'm so hurt at this point. I asked him if I could at least get a massage and he says "I'm sorry babe, I'm just so tired" and falls asleep around 8pm when he usually doesn't even go to bed until midnight/1am. I just sat there crying. I took the 3 gifts that I already bought him for Father's Day and chucked them in the trash can. Personalized items that cost me more than I want to admit but I don't even care anymore. He found them in the garbage this morning and asked me what they were and why they were in the trash covered in food and I told them they were his father's day gifts and left it at that. He's now saying that he "tried" to make my weekend special and that he's hurt by me throwing away his gifts to retaliate against him for it not turning out the way he wanted it to. submitted by /u/StatisticianClear106 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my sister nobody needs to give her anything for Mother’s Day?
My (27F) sister (25F) had a miscarriage 6 or 7 months ago. It was very early, she had a positive pregnancy test, but then a couple days later tested negative and had her period. My husband (29M) and I just had our first baby who is now 3 weeks old. For Mother’s Day, we all went to my parents’ house to celebrate. My sister and I both brought our mom gifts, and my mom also got me flowers and chocolate to celebrate my first Mother’s Day. I think it’s also worth noting that I had an ectopic pregnancy that ended up rupturing three years ago and we’ve been trying to have a baby ever since. I lost a fallopian tube and basically nearly died. I’ve had 2 other miscarriages since then as well. This was a very special first true Mother’s Day. I was in the hospital recovering from the surgery for my ectopic pregnancy over Mother’s Day three years ago, and my family brought me flowers and balloons to help me feel better about going through something so traumatic so close to Mother’s Day. I think this is why my sister may have felt the way she did. My mom didn’t get my sister anything for Mother’s Day. As a result, my sister ended up throwing a fit and was yelling at us, calling us names, and I ended up yelling back that nobody owed her a Mother’s Day gift because she’s not a mother yet. My parents were understanding but said I should’ve been less harsh. Am I the asshole? submitted by /u/Own_Assistant6296 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my husband this is the worst Mother’s Day I’ve had?
So obviously today is Mother’s Day. Well I (24f) woke up this morning to my husband (23m) not at home. In the past he will do this and come back home with a gift whether it be valentines/birthday/Mother’s Day. But When I texted him and asked where he was, he told me he was out buying himself a new pair of shoes. I said okay. He comes home, invites all of his friends over and they all ride dirt bikes, hangout, and I do not see my husband all day long. I got my toddler and went outside to try and spend time with him. My toddler runs up to him while he’s talking and he turns around and snaps at me and tells me that I “need to watch her” This upset me so we just went back inside. I went back out again later to ask if he had eaten the rest of the grapes and when I said “hey babe” he turned around and snapped at me again and said “WHAT?” In a very irritated tone. I just said Nevermind and went back inside again. The third time really just send me over the edge when I walked out and asked if he could help me with something (I have placenta previa and can’t lift anything over 20lbs) and he says “I guess just let me drop everything I’m doing and help you” and slams his stuff down on the tailgate of his truck. I said nevermind and went back inside and never went back out again. About an hour later, he comes inside to grab a drink, he sees I’ve been crying (I’m highly sensitive and 6 months pregnant taking care of a wild 4yo) and asks in a very irritated tone “what’s wrong with you now?” I try my best to tell him while uncontrollably sobbing that I’ve had the worst Mother’s Day and before I can even get it out of my mouth he calls me childish for crying like a baby and tells me that I’m being an asshole just trying to make him feel like a POS. He then tells me that Mother’s Day is for celebrating your mother not your wife and that I don’t deserve to be “rewarded”. I’ve laid in bed and cried pretty much all day. Some background: we’ve been together 6 years married 4, have a 4 year old, and I’m currently pregnant due in September. He’s never acted like this before. He’s always showered me in gifts and shown so much love on holidays. I’m starting to question if I’ve been a bad mother and if he’s right in saying that I do not deserve to be celebrated for Mother’s Day. Am I the asshole for telling my husband that I’ve had the worst Mother’s Day and making him feel like a POS? I wasn’t trying to make him feel bad, I was just really hurt and upset. Edit to add: I didn’t mean he just randomly started acting this way, he’s been nasty in the past and always apologized after and says “he’ll change” It’s just that he’s never acted this way on a holiday. He’s always went out of his way to make me feel special on holidays celebrating me. Second edit: thank you for all of the kinds words and advice, I truly appreciate it. I haven’t opened up to anyone about my relationship so it feels a little better to hear other opinions other than ones biased towards him from his family members. I think I’m gonna ask him about couples counseling to see if maybe a third party could find the root of the problem because I’m 100% willing to fix what needs to be fixed on my end. I’ll update after I talk to him if i decide not to delete this post. I’ve been contemplating whether or not I should leave this up simply because I feel like I added way to many details that would make it clear to him that this is about us if he ever happened upon this post. And I have no idea how badly he would react if he found out about this mainly because I don’t even speak to our family about our issues much less thousands of strangers on the internet. So if I decide to leave it up, the update will be here and if not, again thank you so much for the kind words and advice I needed to hear whether it be the uplifting comments or the harsh reality comments- they’re all appreciated. I also just bought the audiobook version of the book so many recommended “why does he do that” and am starting it now. I will update when I finish it Update: Father’s Day. Me and my daughter haven’t spent time with him today and he’s mad. I just got a text saying “it’s literally Father’s Day, just wanted to see y’all but nvm.” And it honestly sucks that he’s trying to make me feel bad for giving him the same amount of attention he gave me on mothers day. I said the exact same thing to him begging to spend time together on Mother’s Day and was met with anger. submitted by /u/fluffybunnybitch00 to r/TwoHotTakes [link] [comments]

AITAH for grounding my daughter for how she acted at mother's day breakfast?
My husband (32M) and I (32F) have a daughter, Mia (12F), as well as sons 10M and 9M. We all went to a Mother’s Day breakfast with my siblings and parents. We had a reservation at a high end restaurant. My sister Courtney (37F) has 2 kids, 13F and 11M. Her son, Dudley has a friend from basketball whose parents are from the Philippines. My sister and her husband (and no one in our family really, except Dudley) are not sports people, but ever since he could walk, Dudley has loved basketball. His parents put him in a program at 2 and that’s where he met his best friend. Dudley has gifts from his friend from the nation and has gone on vacation there with them. Dudley was wearing some traditional outfit from the tribe his friend’s family is a part of, I don’t remember the name of the outfit or tribe, though Dudley mentioned it. Mia is unfortunately going through her preteen mean girls phase right now, we have tried everything but she’s still acting out. Mia made comments as soon as she saw Dudley, asking him why he was wearing something so ugly. She asked him if he was shopping for clothes in the dark. I told her to stop but she continued to make fun of him. When Dudley explained what he was wearing, Mia said that “those people must be weird”, referring to the tribe Dudley’s friend is a part of. At this point, I told Mia to get up and told her we needed to speak. She got up and I went to the car with her and told her to knock it off, she told me no. After some arguing, we went back and finished our food and then we drove home. When we got home, I told my husband we needed to speak, after speaking, we told her she was grounded for a week and took her phone away. We went to my sister’s house to exchange gifts, while there my mom said she is upset at how we punished Mia, saying that she’s only 12 and we are being too hard on her. She said that Mia will make mistakes and that taking her phone away is too harsh of a punishment and will only make her resent Dudley. AITA? submitted by /u/xvbgf76 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

OOP hates her Mother's Day gift from her husband before she receives it
I am not OOP. This was originally posted by u/sillygooseiguess on r/TwoHotTakes. -- AITA for hating my husband's Mother's Day gift when I haven't received it yet? - 13 May, 2023 The day I'm writing this is the day before Mother's Day. I have spent the whole day (or week, more accurately) in and out of tears. I started reminding my husband about Mother's Day a month ago. I told him exactly what I wanted: one of those viral book bouquets with a couple of books from my wish list. I sent him screenshots of my TBR, and then again two weeks later as a way to remind him. The reason why I even reminded him so early is because he has a tendency to put things off until he forgets about them completely-- and unfortunately I think this is the case for a lot of heterosexual men. For my last birthday, we did absolutely nothing. He blamed it on the fact we were flying out to head home the next day-- but that was not for my birthday. That was for Christmas. And I didn't even want to fly home, HE did. The birthday before that, he wasn't even in town. He was on a dirt biking trip with his brothers. He didn't do anything with my reminders, my screenshots of my wish list. Did not buy any books. Has not bought anything at all, period. And it's the day before Mother's Day. To give him credit, he did talk to me a few nights ago about this "spa" that he found in our area I could choose a couple services from as his gift to me. The services offered were a couple of facials, brow treatments, or waxing options-- none of which I need or even remotely hinted at wanting to get done. I politely told him, "I'm sorry but don't think I need any of this." And he just kind of shrugged his shoulders and is now back at square one. Since he never bought me any books, I bought some for myself. The package came today, and when he asked what it was I told him it was my Mother's Day gift to myself since he never got them for me. He went into our bedroom and pouted, said nothing. I am so angry and so hurt. I have told him from the very beginning of our relationship that I refuse to end up in a marriage like my parent's, and that's exactly where we are headed. I wanted to avoid the cliché last-minute purchased flowers and candy so badly. And I would still try to appreciate them, if he even got them at this point. I was asking him if he had plans to go to the store some time today and he said he didn't. He's currently sitting on the couch beside me watching YouTube videos on his phone. I told him exactly what to do, exactly what I wanted, and he ignored it. I do not understand why. Why do I have to work so hard to get someone to show they care about me? To show they LIKE me? I truly am so confused, so heartbroken. All I know is, I WILL be keeping the same energy for Father's Day.So, AITA for hating my Mother's Day gift even when I have yet to receive it? EDIT: For those asking, we have a one-year-old son. Also for those stating my husband shouldn't need to get me anything or do anything for me since I'm not his mom, what's our one-year-old supposed to do? Shit in my hand? There is absolutely wrong with a husband showing appreciation towards the woman that's working hard to raise his kids. EDIT #2: For the people who clearly see the underlying message here, thank you. Despite the literal title of my post, at the end of the day, this is NOT about materialistic gifts. It's about effort and showing gratitude. Sorry for those of you who do not see that in this post. I understand not everyone reads through the comments, so I will add this here as well: I would love anything— breakfast in bed, crumbl cookies, a clean house, a day to myself, a homemade card, whatever. The only reason why I’m “upset” over a “gift” is because I thought getting me a gift would be the easiest thing for him to do in our situation. (Since our kid is so young and we don't have any family/help around since we moved away.) I laid it out for him completely and he still did nothing. Granted, there is still time. He could pull something out last minute. I’m just really in my feelings right now. Made a post out of anger. EDIT #3: A few more things: I’m so sorry there are so many of you that can relate. There are quite a few people getting hung up on his spa attempt. Maybe I should go into more detail. He had not booked anything yet. If he had gone ahead and did it, I would have gone and been totally fine with it. But when he told me he was thinking about doing something like that, he was asking what I would want to get done at that particular place. I told him my honest opinion, that I didn’t want any of it. I really didn’t think so many people would get hung up on that shred of detail, but you’re clearly missing the bigger picture here, in my opinion. You’re really just picking and choosing what you want to read. It was a last-minute offer. It wasn’t thoughtful, it was a quick google search. Why would I want him to spend hundreds of dollars on something I didn’t want in the first place? Especially when a couple of stupid books are 10x cheaper. The heterosexual men comment was sexist and I apologize for hurting anybody’s feelings with that take. I should clarify that is the norm for the men in my life to be forgetful and to not be grateful for the women in their lives. My husband did not start out this way. While we were dating/engaged he was very thoughtful in so many ways. Maybe becoming parents is what flipped the switch.I will post an update tomorrow but my hopes are not high. I’m thinking of turning off comments because this has gotten bigger than I expected and it’s getting a little overwhelming, but for those of you that have been kind regardless of your stance, thank you. Truly. -- UPDATE - 14 May, 2023 For those of you that said I’d feel stupid the next day, you were right. I do feel stupid. I feel stupid for ever thinking that my husband would try to give me the same treatment that I give to him on his special holidays. I feel stupid for laying out a step-by-step process for him to take the pressure off of finding me a gift, and then have him completely disregard it. I feel stupid for begging someone to show me they appreciate my efforts to raise our child, manage a household, and devote 100% of my time and energy into our family. The only thing different about today was that he put up our window blinds— something that I’d been asking him to do since we moved into our new house four months ago. Guess that counts for something. There were a lot of people concerned about what I do for him on Father’s Day & birthdays. For Father’s Day last year I planned a 2-day camping trip at his favorite cabin site and rented jet skis and prepped all of his favorite camp meals. For his birthdays I make him a dessert and a dinner from scratch every year unless he wants to go out, and we do everything else he wants. I’ve get him tools he’s been talking about wanting, I’ve gotten him new clothing items and shoes that he wants replaced, I get him things that go along with the hobbies he’s taking interest in. Bottom line, I put in too much effort to receive less than the bare minimum in return. I don’t give a shit if that makes me a “narcissist” or “materialistic” or “selfish” or “self absorbed” as a lot of you have called me in my messages. I deserve a partner that fucking cares. I deserve a partner that takes note of my interests and makes me feel listened to and respected. I deserve a partner that shows me through their actions how much I matter to them. Not with some what-if bullshit about fucking spa treatments. My kid deserves a better role model than that. Better yet, my kids future SPOUSE deserves a better role model than that. I think it’s funny how there were comments saying “just wait for tomorrow, maybe he’ll surprise you” as if I didn’t know this would be the outcome. As if I hadn’t been reminding him for a month in advance to avoid this. As if the pattern of him dismissing my days to feel special wasn’t a common pattern. And no, I didn’t marry him and trap him with a baby because I thought he’d suddenly change. He did change, but only because he used to be so thoughtful and sweet before. While we were dating and engaged, he always did so much for me and made me feel so loved. I don’t know why that has changed. Maybe parenting has taken a larger toll on our relationship than I thought. I really don’t know. For the others that have gone through this same situation, thank you for your kindness and support and your love. I appreciate it all so much. I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day, if that’s applicable to you. ❤️ As for me, I’m spending my Mother’s Day having a very long conversation about what we should do next. EDIT: Already adding an edit because I can already see these kinds of comments coming— I am not demanding or expecting my husband to go all out for me in return of what I do for him. What I DO expect is some real, genuine effort. EDIT #2: Just one final blurb before I go. I can’t help but notice how the majority of the people who are tearing apart what I’ve said word for word, name-calling, sending me vile hate messages and threats, critiquing how I reacted, or telling me I don’t deserve to be treated well are predominantly male. The irony is hysterical. -- REMINDER: I am not OOP submitted by /u/rickysayshey to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

AITA for not getting my wife anything on Mother’s Day?
I (34m) did not buy or get anything for my wife on Mother’s Day and let me explain why. My wife and her friend planned a trip to the beach for four days which fell on Mothers Day. So I thought to myself that since I’m watching the kids while she’s gone that would count as a gift since she wouldn’t be here to celebrate that day and would get home that night on Mother’s Day. She gets home and realizes that I didn’t do anything for her and later tells me that she is upset and message was received loud and clear. I tried to explain my reasoning and thought process but she didn’t agree. So AITA? EDIT: I worded this badly and not enough background. Instead of watching I should’ve said taking care of the house and kids. Her going to the beach is what I thought she wanted to do for Mother’s Day and me taking care of everything was enough because we pretty much split everything 50/50, she cooks more and I clean more. She wasn’t expecting gifts but acknowledgement of her is what she was looking for but again her being gone that day I thought that it didn’t mean that much and wasn’t expecting anything. She didn’t speak to me for 4 days after I apologized. Eventually we talked it out and admitted my mistakes for not communicating with her. I want to thank all the people that gave advice and actual conversations and didn’t take personal shots and for the ones that did I was being sarcastic in my responses. UPDATE: She got me a Father’s Day gift and it was not divorce papers. submitted by /u/oakcool to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA? I bought my cousin’s daughter a $4K gift for Christmas and ended up spending more on her than her mother did. AITA for not checking with her mother first?
I happened to marry into a family with an insane amount of money. More than they know what to do with, quite honestly. I spent approx. $15k per child for my three children for Christmas, which I am immensely grateful to be able to spend on them. I also donated the same amount to a charity of each child’s choice, as well. My mom’s side has a rule that we only get each other Christmas gifts if we will be seeing each other that year on Christmas day. (For cousins with children, we get the kids gifts rather than their parents.) My mother hosted this year and about ten of my cousins and their children were coming. I bought each of my cousin’s children something unique, not really thinking about the price, but more what I think they would like. My cousin (35M) has a fourteen year old daughter. She is the result of a one night stand, so most of us in the family have only met her mother a handful of times and for only a few minutes. My daughter is also fourteen and two parts of her Christmas day gifts were a Cartier Love Ring and a YSL purse. I bought the same for my cousin’s daughter, as they are very close and I thought she’d really like it. My cousin’s daughter excitedly facetimed her mother to show her the gifts that I bought her and upon ending the facetime, called my cousin very upset. She said that I spent more on her daughter for Christmas than she had and was livid with me. I genuinely didn’t think about the cost of the gifts, just more what I think a fourteen year old girl would really like, especially considering I have a fourteen year old daughter myself and know what they like. My cousin’s daughter’s mother is really upset with me because she feels I made her look bad to her daughter, but I only ever intended on getting her daughter gifts I thought she’d like.
