Old Books Stink? I Tried to Restore 100-Year-Old Books Using Activated Charcoal
My previous post Do You Keep Your Books in The Freezer was gone beyond all expectations in popularity so I decided to try one step over. After 7 days I decided to proceed to the next level: trying to get rid of bad odor (musty smell, organic residues and compounds). Since my books are valuable and 100+ old and I want not only to read them but also to heavily annotate them like in this I show in this post Massacring A Book To Learn German Activated charcoal (active carbon) seems to be a safe (I don't know yet) deodorizing methods because it absorbs odors without exposing the books to moisture or chemicals. What I used -- activated charcoal (granules or odor-absorbing pouches), it is used by for fish lovers. -- a large plastic storage box with a lid, or a sealable plastic container -- cooking paper (what I used) wire rack, plastic grid, or cardboard spacers Before starting: I checked for active mold. Active mold often appears fuzzy, powdery, or damp. Activated charcoal removes odors but does not kill mold. Here's the magic I placed activated charcoal in open trays or bowls at the bottom of a plastic container. I realized later I need to put a rack or spacers above the charcoal (The books should not touch the charcoal directly). I have to wait at least 2 weeks if not more . One week For allergy sufferers Clean dust first. Freeze the books for 72 hours in sealed bags (apparently helps with insects, not mold). Let them return to room temperature while still sealed. Use the activated charcoal chamber. Store books in a dry environment below 55% humidity. (Almost impossible in my geo area) Other methods to check (Not safe to try yet) Direct sunlight for days (some says it is not a good idea) Baking soda directly on pages Spraying alcohol or disinfectants into the book Ozone generators (can damage paper and bindings) Heating books in an oven (40C) If you have already tried something similar please tell us your experience below. : ) I purchased charcoal (granules or submitted by /u/Fair_Theme_9960 to r/RateMyRead [link] [comments]

What's the best way to absorb and/or mask odors?
I assure you I've done all the cleaning I can. Nonetheless, occasionally there's a bothersome smell in my apartment. It's smells faintly like garlic and I cant tell if its coming from an adjacent unit, or off gassing from the unit's finishings. So I'm looking for the most effective ways to absorb, as well mask odors like this. When it comes to absorbing, I've seen all sorts of recommendations for activated charcoal, baking soda etc. but I have no idea which is the most effective. When it comes to masking, I prefer "natural" smells like incense. Are there any others I should consider? submitted by /u/thelonious_skunk to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

LPT: Keep your fridge smelling fresh with charcoal
Forget those chemical deodorizers, activated charcoal is a natural, non-toxic way to absorb odors in your fridge. Just place a small bag or container of charcoal on a shelf, and it quietly soaks up unwanted smells without affecting your food. It lasts for months, is inexpensive, and works way better than baking soda in my experience. Bonus: it looks sleek and low-maintenance too! Pro tip: replace the charcoal every 2–3 months for the best results submitted by /u/ManagementDapper8081 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

My first balenciaga/luxury bag!
Hi everyone, I made a post about a week ago trying to decide between a vintage city bag or the new le city. I liked the look of the le city more but was still open to vintage. I decided to get one on the real real that looked the closest to the le city version (TRR said it was 2012) but upon receiving it I actually believe I got a pre owned le city and not a 2012 city which is what I was actually looking for! I believe TRR had the wrong year because there is a letter K on the serial number or something on the tag so they might have gotten that confused for f/w 2012 but the actual style number is of the new le city. She’s in excellent condition except for some leather wear on the tassels where I believe the previous owner pulled them to open the zipper and a bit on the corners but it’s very subtle. There is a slight odor from storage though; I ordered some activated charcoal air freshener bags to absorb moisture/odor and I added a charm to her already 🌙 submitted by /u/reptileluvr to r/handbags [link] [comments]

Odor absorbing fabric
I've been making ostomy pouch covers and I think I mostly have the shape down but I'd like to make them more odor absorbing. Probably by having something in the interfacing. I've seen some activated charcoal fabric but I suspect it'll stain the cover the second it gets put into the washing machine. That's about as far as I've gotten, other that knitting a wool one, but I started by making a sewing pattern and I'd like to end on a sewing pattern submitted by /u/DarkLadyofDNA to r/sewhelp [link] [comments]

a list of lesser mentioned autism tools/accomedations
I have level 1 autism and im tired of people online acting like that cant come with debilitating sensory issues. I also feel like it can be hard to find options for managing those sensory issues beyond the basic (but vital) suggestions of headphones and sunglasses, so this is a list of slightly odd ones i use but really work for me. take what helps and leave what doesnt and if you have any other suggestions id love to hear them too! eyeliner shape stamps: one stamp on either side of your mouth where people have dimples draws the eye (like spots on a moth wing) and when i do this people naturally make far less direct eye contact with me in convos. i dont wear makeup otherwise but i find this a tolerable trade off. womb/heartbeat sounds: you can find playlists of these on spotify. Drowns out background noise if the noise cancelling on your headphones isnt the best and I find the slow heartbeats really calming. bilateral stimulation: tapping either collarbone, one then the other in sequence helps calm and slow the heart rate pacing: especially if you live in a cold climate. if I catch a meltdown early enough then walking as fast as i can up and down the street in the cold helps reduce the severity and length of my meltdowns. chore robots: i would 100% buy a countertop dishwasher and robo vacuum again. theyre worth their weight in gold to not have to touch wet nasty plates KT tape and electric heating pad: if you have comorbid dyspraxia like me and you ache all the time from tripping/walking weird/falling/bumping into things (which adds to sensory overwhelm) then these do a lot for recovery An allistic friend/family member as an email/text editor: to make sure your tone comes off right a pair of cheap silicone/foam earplugs in every coat, jacket, or purse you wear out air out your room/home: if smells bother you (and especially if you live with any animals) open your windows for like 20 minutes a day. charcoal/odor absorbing discs are also good have blind time: this only works if you wear glasses or contacts and cant see distances but if visual noise bothers you just take your glasses off and live in the blurry world for a while. understimulating activities: have low stimulation options for when youre having a more sensitive day but dont want to be bored. i like this push peel board i have, building legos, rearranging my dolls, reading, and colouring pages off pinterest. irish goodbye: i almost never excuse myself or say goodbye. i just wait until people are distracted and disappear. this works best in busy environments or when people are mulling around. if its not busy you can also say "one sec I've got to go to the washroom" and leave after OR come back after then frown at the time on your phone, mutter "oh shoot ive gotta go" while walking backwards a few steps, then turn around and speedwalk away. people seem to not dwell on my leaving when i do those submitted by /u/TheodandyArt to r/AutisticPeeps [link] [comments]

My attempt to summarize what I've learned from this sub & create a guide for myself
First, want to start by acknowledging and thanking those who have made so many great contributions by sharing knowledge & helping out all the newbies like me. I replaced my washer & dryer last month and accidentally fell down the rabbit hole of this sub, I've probably spent about 10 hours reading, searching and taking notes to create a new routine to complement the arrival of the new machines. My previous routine was using whatever Tide Pods were sold at Costco, the basic/normal wash cycle and throwing everything into the dryer with a Bounce dryer sheet. For what it's worth, I've never really had any problems with the old way, meaning I didn't perceive any opportunity to improve or see any value in changing the way I've done laundry for decades. With that said, here is a summary I put together based upon posts and comments from this sub. I would greatly appreciate any feedback, corrections, or suggestions from the community. I also have 2 questions that I would love some help with (noted at the end). New Washing Machine: LG 4.5 c.u. Front Loader (purchased from Costco) New Dryer: LG 7.4 c.u. Gas Dryer (purchased from Costco) My Water Hardness: 105ppm Whites: Add 1/3 cup Biz directly to drum before adding clothes Add 1 full cap 365 Sport Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Hot Washer Cycle: Whites + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: For washing white fabrics only Light Colors: Add 1/3 cup Biz directly to drum before adding clothes Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Warm Washer Cycle: Normal + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: For all normal items such as cotton, linen, shirts, jeans, or mixed loads, except delicate fabrics such as wool or silk Dark Colors/Jeans No Biz added Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to drum before adding clothes Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Warm Washer Cycle: Normal + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: For all normal items such as cotton, linen, shirts, jeans, or mixed loads, except delicate fabrics such as wool or silk Bedding: Add 1/3 cup Biz directly to drum before adding bedding Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to drum before adding bedding Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Hot Washer Cycle: Bedding/Jumbo Wash + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: For washing blankets or bulky items which have difficulty absorbing water, such as pillows, blankets, comforters, sheets or pet bedding Towels: Add 1/3 cup Biz directly to drum before adding towels Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to drum before adding Towels Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Hot Washer Cycle: Towels + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: Use this cycle for towels, shirts, jeans and mixed loads Sportswear: Add 1/3 cup Biz directly to drum before adding clothes Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 1/2 scoop 365 Powder directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Warm Washer Cycle: Sportswear + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: Washes special garments like sports and outdoor wear Delicates No Biz added Add 1 full cap 365 Sport directly to detergent drawer of washer Add 2 teaspoons of Citric Acid directly to softener drawer of washer Water Temperature: Cool Washer Cycle: Delicates + 2 Extra Rinse User Manual: For washing dress shirts/blouses, nylons, lingerie, or sheer and lacy clothes which can easily be damaged QUESTIONS: My current understanding & plan is to use both 365 Sport & 365 Unscented Powder detergents for every load (except Delicates), along with using Citric Acid and a Double-Rinse cycle every time. My question: is using both the 365 Sport & the 365 Powder overkill? Are there any scenarios when I shouldn't use both or is my current plan sufficient if I'm not concerned about cost? Regarding the addition of Citric Acid, I'm unclear if I should add the powder directly into the Softener drawer or if I would be better served by mixing it into warm water first so that it dissolves? Note with the exception of Delicates, I would be using Warm water at a minimum. I couldn't find any reference or guidance in the user manual. General Notes Biz (Oxi) Boost cleaning, soften water, improve stain/soil removal. Contains OBAs (Optical Brighteners) and Oxygenatd Bleach Contains OBAs (Optical Brighteners) that can fade colored clothing over long period of time. Color determines dose and whether that oxi has Optical Brightener in it. If it’s lighter than “light navy” it gets oxi with OBA (Biz). If it’s darker than “charcoal” it gets a half dose. Can try different product for “dark oxi” loads like Febu. Darks darker than “light navy” would look better with a booster that doesn’t have OBAs. Application: Measure dose and place directly into drum of washer before adding clothes IF wash temp are set to warm or higher, can be dispensed directly into the drums of washer. IF using cooler temp, it must be dissolved into a quart of hot tap water to unlock benefits other than softening Dose: 1/4 cup Biz for 50ppm hardness water (matched with 1 full cap of 360 Sport) as default load. Try 1/3 cup to see where suds level ends up (just a trace of bubbles on the glass a few minutes after agitation begins - if you see more, drop dose). Figure extra tablespoon or so for every 50ppm of hardness beyond 75 Citric Acid Balances PH, returns clothes to natural feel, odor removal benefit tied to removing excess detergent & minerals that can form sticky film, Application: Measure dose and place into Softener drawer of washer. Most HE machines tolerate the dry powder in the dispenser, if you find residue, then top off the dispenser with tap water after adding acid. If mixing with water, use room temperature water and dissolve the citric acid in the water, do not add the water directly into the citric acid Dose: 1-2 teaspoons as default, if water is hard, use more and increase by roughly 50% of base dose for every 100ppm of hardness past 150ppm 365 Sport Has DNAse boosters, good for athletic garments and heavily soiled garments, along with Lipase. 365 Powder has better surfactants. Key feature seems to be inclusion of DNAse enzyme booster. Does not contain Oxygenated Bleach Application: Measure dose and place directly into the Detergent drawer of washer Dose: 1 full cap 365 Powder Has better surfactants and additional enzymes (including Lipase) compared to 365 Sport, along with some oxygenated bleach Application: Measure dose and place directly in the bottom of the drum OR in the detergent dispenser IF the manual says it’s okay (for some, you may need to remove a cup or make another adjustment) Dose: 1/2 scoop Surfactants Name for surface-active agents, which are the primary cleaning ingredients in detergents. Think of them as soil lifters and carriers, not stain destroyers. They are best at everyday dirt and body oils, grease and food foods, and preventing soil from reattaching. They do not chemically alter stains, they only remove what can be physically lifted Lipase Enzyme that cuts oils from animal/vegetable sources into smaller pieces that detergent can more easily remove DNAse Helps remove oily residues from humans and animals Oxygen Bleach Usually means sodium percarbonate, which releases hydrogen peroxide when dissolved in water. Instead of lifting dirt, oxygen bleach chemically changes stains by the oxygen reaction with colored molecules in stains. It breaks their chemical bonds and makes the stain more colorless or more water-soluble, allowing the remaining residue to be washed away. It’s best at organic stains like wine, coffee, tea, grass, blood. It’s best at treating yellowing and dingy whites, removing odor-causing residues, and is color-safe on most fabrics. It is less effective on grease and heat oils by itself. It works best in warm to hot water and a long soak time improves results Citric Acid Used for Rinse cycle, helps with fabric texture & ph, it softens and de-alkalizes. Makes towels fluffier, sheets smoother, overall a cottony-soft slightly fluffy feel Powders vs Liquids - powders are better at stain removal of physical soils like dirt and mud, liquids are better for fats and oils Dryer Dryer Sheets: Bounce Pet Hair & Lint Guard Setting: Medium Heat Cleaning & Maintenance Clean lint trap every use Clean vent ducts annually Washer Always Use Extra Rinse Cycle (User Manual: Adds an extra rinse to the selected cycle to help remove detergent or bleach residue from fabrics. Liquid fabric softener, if used, is always dispensed in the final rinse. Pressing the Extra Rinse button twice adds two additional rinses to the cycle) Cleaning & Maintenance Cleaning Tablets: add directly to the drum Powdered Cleaners: pull out liquid detergent cup before adding to main detergent compartment Liquid Chlorine Bleach: Add to bleach compartment of detergent dispenser Drum Cleaner/Lime Scale Remover: Add to main detergent compartment of detergent dispenser If you use a descaled or drum cleaner during the Tub Clean cycle, use the Rinse+Spin option to rinse the washer drum before running next wash cycle Frequency: Use tablets or Citric Acid at least once monthly to clean Run “Tub Clean” cycle on washer Wipe & disinfect seal every week Leave door and drawer open to ventilate Remove & clean detergent drawer once a month Clean the Drain Pump Filter periodically Special thanks to u/KismaiAesthetics for all of great advice & support in building this community! submitted by /u/380hakker to r/laundry [link] [comments]

Is activated charcoal for odors counterproductive in a hot car?
I bought some activated charcoal bags from Amazon to help the air in my car after someone got in smelling like cigarettes. I know that when exposed to sunlight or heat, the bags release the odors they store. Would it be counterproductive to keep them in my car while I’m at work? It gets pretty hot where I live, right now it gets up to 90 degrees. I also park sometimes in the sun. submitted by /u/VincentVegasiPhone13 to r/CleaningTips [link] [comments]

What are the benefits of using an activated charcoal cabin air filter from PUREFLOW®?
While traditional particle filters successfully clean cabin air, PUREFLOW® Cabin Air Filters feature a media layer infused with activated charcoal that takes things to the next level. These filters not only trap dust and debris but also eliminate bad odors and harmful gases. Activated charcoal is treated with heat and chemicals, allowing gasses to be absorbed into the charcoal surface. Activated charcoal is highly effective at odor control because it is highly porous, allowing for better absorption of bad smells and neutralizing odors. These filters also absorb harmful fumes, such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide, which can all be dangerous to your health. The result? Cleaner, healthier air for you and your passengers. pureflowair #cabinfilter #healthyair #breathebetter submitted by /u/pureflowair to r/pureflow [link] [comments]

Has anyone tried vacuuming activated charcoal for aquariums for odor control?
I recently bought a used SEBO Felix and while in good condition, it has a faint musty smell even though the bag is new. I searched around and I know vacuum pearls are a thing, and SEBO sells an anti-odor filter with charcoal in it. However, the filter costs $40 instead of the usual $20 for what I assume is maybe 50 grams of charcoal. I can buy a 22oz jar of activated charcoal intended for aquarium use for $10, which is roughly 600 grams. Has anyone tried using this stuff at the beginning of a new bag for the purpose of odor control? Dropping or vacuuming a few spoonfuls at the start of a new bag (especially on the Felix, which sucks straight downward through the bag) seems like it would have the same effect as the anti-odor filter for 10% of the cost, and allow one to replace the charcoal every time they replace a bag (instead of once per year, when they replace the filter). This approach seems similar to vacuum pearls except even cheaper and more "neutral" given that the charcoal should have absolutely no smell, and will only absorb odors. An experience report from anyone who has tried this would be appreciated. submitted by /u/AIDS_Pizza to r/VacuumCleaners [link] [comments]

Success!! Finally found a Bad Breath Cure / Fix / Breakthrough that works!! BB Free with Treatment
WE IN THERE! BB-FREE!!! I'm ONE MONTH in but this new "cure" or management plan has been the most successful! I'm merely sharing my experience as others have done for me. I uncovered this through a forum called "Bad Breath Halitosis" (users: NOLAB & MAURICIO are doing God's work!!!) Can't thank them enough because I did EVERYTHING you could think of and none of it worked for longer than a few days until I tried their suggestions. In my case I discovered that my bad breath came from multiple sources: 55% (Liver, Lung & Kidneys), 25% (Silent Reflux/LPR), 15% (Gingivitis) and 5% (Halitophobia). For this post, when I say number-BB i.e. 10-BB it means (on a scale from 0 to 10, 0-BB = phenomenal breath and 10-BB = Room filling Drogon Viserion Balerion all Westeros Dragons combined Bad, Bad Breath). I used to typically be at 5-BB (right after oral routine) but would quickly get to 9/10-BB 30 mins to a hour-ish after my routine. 20-BB after I eat with all hell breaking loose....This was all before trying the breakthrough. I'm NOT a medical professional. Please consult a health professional on trying anything & assume responsbility/research. Bad Breath can come from many places in our body (ear, nose, throat, gut etc.) so while this worked for me, it might not work for others who have different BB sources like Tonsil Stones, Nasal Infection, H. Pylori etc. My Story I've had chronic Bad breath since 2006 (Freshman year in High School). I wasn't aware until I was mid-college around 2012. I may have been at 7-8BB at my worse. People would always back away when I spoke which confused me since I brushed my teeth once a day in the morning. I started talking with my hands to block my breath when speaking to people. After graduating, I realized I may have an issue so I cranked it up!! Brushing twice a day, morning + evening. Listerine was my razzle dazzle. Still got reactions. It wasn't room filling yet (best of my knowledge) but when I spoke folks reacted so I knew something was wrong. Throughout social outings and in-person work meetings (Pre-Covid), I would speak and folks would ask questions like "Who farted?"...."It smells like SH***"..."OMGoshh what's that SMELL??!"... Overtime, many people kept their distance when chatting with me. I was traumatized and hated life. I stayed away from people and especially from hanging out anywhere. I tried mints, mouthwashing on the go, and a myriad of other things that I'll list below... NOTHING WORKED. Overtime, my oral care evolved. Dentists PRAISED my teeth and gum health but the only win would be an extra 30 minutes-1.5 hrs before the BB returned. Doctors were immune to the smell I guess??? I felt completely defeated and didn't feel like life was worth living. I get deeply sad now just thinking about all those moments, missed opportunities, friendships, experiences & relationships. I have so much more scenarios/details but I'll summarize as much as possible because I have things to do and have been procrastinating on putting this post together due to info overload tbh. I've seen over 20 doctors (Primary Care, Dentists, ENT, Gastroenterologists etc). Went through a Clindamycin (Cleocin) antibiotic treatment around 2017/2018. It was magic. Everything disappeared... then came back. I was diagnosed with Silent Reflux in Jan 2020 via Endoscopy, Bravo PH and Barium Swallow. Doctor also checked for H. Pylori and it came back negative. Same doctor went ahead and did my TIF procedure (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) in Feb 2020. Silent Reflux held up for 2 months-ish and fully returned (food regurgitation, acidic taste in the back of my throat, burping, bloating). My SIBO test taken in Feb 2020 also came back negative. I went to a different doctor in Orlando in Feb 2021 for an Robotic EV (Esophageal Valvuloplasty). Silent Reflux held up for about 6 months then all symptoms returned. I was distraught. I developed room-filling BB somewhere between these procedures (I suspect). Even my now fiancèe would cover her nose most of the time when I spoke close to her so I would do my oral routine alot when we had things planned. I later developed IBS-D (lucky me) so I went on another antibiotic run in May 2022 with Rifaxin (Xifaxan). The IBS-D was resolved but Surprisingly, I had similar results to Clindamycin, BB was completely gone! It came back after it's week long vacation with MORE odor. It was almost as if I was PISSING OFF the bacteria. Even though I felt super defeated I decided to continue researching. I realized the source of my BB was NOT oral related (ears, nose, throat). I suspected my Silent Reflux played a role but it couldn't be the major culprit. Also suspected my throat. Had two laryngoscopies by two different doctors, both confirmed I didn't have Tonsil stones. Just inflammation likely from my LPR. The second doctor prescribed me Metronidazole (flagyl) only because I pleaded. He googled searched dosage and treatment right in front of me + asking questions. I was cracking up like damn, maybe I should be a Doctor! Anywho. I finally discovered Bad Breath halitosis forum. It's been around since 2005 and folks are sharing stories (successes, failures, Q&A and etc). I came across two posts by Nolab and Mauricio which PEAKED my interest because they talked about a source I NEVER suspected --- Lung, Liver, Kidney (Glutathione Helps post by Nolab and tons of details added by Mauricio). Mauricio confirmed he's BB Free btw. I started testing and trying different supplements suggested. Below is my timeline since November 2022 up until now: Nov 23, 2022: Started 10-day Metronidazole (Flagyl) antibiotics treatment. No noticeable difference. Reactions continued from people Dec 4, 2022: Started taking Glutathione while waiting for other supplements to arrive. Noticed a difference within 3 days. No longer felt something at the back of my throat, the strange room-filling thing wasn't there anymore (hard to describe but I basically smell it when I swallow HARD and use an N-95 mask), mouth wasn't as dry anymore Dec 7: Taking Glutathione, NAC, Molybdenum, Vitamin B-12 and vitamins. NAC was producing bad-breath in my body, which was confusing because Mauricio's breath was gone everytime he took NAC!! I got perplexed but decided to eliminate NAC and continue taking others. What happens is the Glutathione, Molybdenum and Vitamins would all get rid of most of my BB for about 5-6 hrs. I take NAC later in the day and it returns! Pre-NAC, I was getting no reactions from people whether I spoke up close or across the room. Before all this, people could be 10-30 ft away from me and would still profusely rub their nose when I open my mouth. Uber Drivers would always make faces and lower the car window due to my room-filling BB coming through my nose even those I always used a mask. I know it was bad but some were downright cruel.....Anywho Dec 8: Took my Bristle Oral Microbiome test and shipped saliva sample (hindsight: I wish I took this mid-November before I started doing all this because my results ended up showing that I have great breath and oral health but it was NOT the case before this aggressive breakthrough). I suspect because I had finished Metronidazole + started the supplements that actually were working, my mouth bacteria was now where it needed to be. I'll link my Bristle Oral Microbiome results somewhere below! Dec 12: BB had fully returned. Again, bad bacteria was PISSED that I was tampering with their HOME so they came back with additional manpower. I felt defeated again but something told me not to stop with the supplements. That's when I researched a DIFFERENT FORM of these supplements and realized. You can't take a regular version of these supplements because they get crushed by Acid, Bacteria or other things in your body without getting fully absorbed. For example, S-Acetyl Glutathione (SAG) is created to make it past your digestive tract -- acid, bacteria etc. (this YouTube Video eloquently articulates different types of Glutathione available otc). SAG is SUPERIOR to regular Glutathione. I also switched to Amino Acid Chelated Molybdenum, Methylated Vitamin B-12 and Methylated Multi-vitamins Dec 21: Went to dentist and got a deep cleaning for Gingivitis (early form of Periodontal disease). Tooth Scaling & Root Planing. They either injected my gums with Chlorhexidine or used it as a mouthwash. Either way, my teeth, gums & tongue felt clean in the most UNREAL way. Dec 26: Been using SAG, Chelated Molybdenum, Methylated Vitamin B-12 + Multivitamins. BB has completely changed with ongoing oral care routine. After my routine, my breath is a 0-1BB. It stays this way for 5-7 hrs until I eat. That takes me to 4-6BB. Still no room filling. This is also post Gingivitis cleaning. Keep in mind, a little BB is common. We just got the shortest end of the stick Dec 29: BB relapsed after I took Life Extension's Esophacool. Took 2 days to return to my normal fresh 0/1-BB levels. NOT touching that again.... Jan 4: Bristle results came back from by Dec 8, 22 sample. Never cared for science but this BB journey has made me crazy about all things science if related to BB!! I'll share results below Jan 6: Good Breath still INTACT and staying FRESH with my consistent oral + supplement routines :) Cure / Breakthrough / Success Fix The liver, lung & kidney are having a hard time getting rid of toxins in our body so they send it into our blood stream and it shows up as room filling BB and sometimes BO. Here are few sources pointing at a potential root cause: Extra-oral bad smelling breath can be caused by conditions affecting the nose, sinuses, tonsils, and esophagus, but evidence indicates that in some patients the extra-oral halitosis is blood-borne 3. In blood-borne halitosis malodorant compounds, most commonly DMS, are carried to the lungs where they enter the breath. Gene Mutations in SELENBP1, encoding a novel human methanethiol oxidase, cause extra-oral halitosis (Scientific Research source) Fetor hepaticus occurs when your breath has a strong, musty smell. It’s a sign that your liver is having trouble doing its job of filtering out toxic substances, usually due to severe liver disease. As a result, sulfur substances end up in your bloodstream and can make their way to your lungs (Healthline Medical article source) I'm now taking Glutathione (S-Acetyl), Molybdenum (Amino Acid Chelate), Vitamin B12 (Methylated), Multivitamins & a twice-a-day Robust Oral Care routine. The first 4 items are the breakthrough. My oral care keeps things in check - especially oral + nasal wise. The 4 items tackled 55% of my BB and room filling part. The Dentist performed a deep Gingivitis cleaning which included Scaling and Root Planing to resolve my Gingivitis (they also injected Chlorihexidine into my gums during the process or used it as a mouthwash?). This solved that 15% from Gingivitis (a mild form of periodontal disease). I use Reflux Gourmet (similar to Gaviscon Advance) after eating to keep my 25% LPR Silent Reflux breath in check (Silent Reflux is Acid Reflux/GERD's annoying cousin). Gerd Breath can still come up after eating but it's dramatically minimal depending on what I eat. Lastly, all of this works due to my robust oral care routine which I'll detail below. Some people who tried the 4 item breakthrough above (amongst other things) shared that it took weeks to a month for noticeable improvements. In my case, I saw improvement within 2-3 days. But then again, I had finished a 10-day trial of metronidazole (flagyl) and noticed NO change in my BB during the actual flagyl run. I used Clindamycin and Rifaximin (Xifaxin) years ago and had incredible but TEMPORARY results. Supplement Routine S-Acetyl Glutathione 100mg 1 tablet Taken on an empty stomach once a day. First thing consumed in the morning with a cup of water. I rinse my mouth with water before consuming. S-Acetyl Glutathione is superior to regular Glutathione! Chelated Molybdenum 600mcg 4 tablets - Taken twice a day. Once right after breakfast. Second time with dinner or later lunch Amino Acid chelate should be in ingredients!!! The glycinate chelate wasn't working for me personally Methylated Vitamin B-12 1000 mcg 1 lozenge taken once a day with dinner or late lunch. Let this melt under your tongue and hold in your mouth until dissolved. Taken once a day Multivitamins - Enhanced absorption 3 tablets Taken once a day with lunch or with breakfast. Ensure that this is taken with food! Reflux Gourmet - Mint cholocate 1 teaspoon taken everytime after eating and also once before bed before I do my oral care routine Similar to Gaviscon Advance. From personal experience, Gaviscon worsens my BB. I read that Gaviscon is more effective but I didn't stick around to find out. RG works fine for me If you don't have a bad case of acid reflux or LPR, ignore this! Oral/Nasal Routine (Morning or before a social outing) Nasal rinse (Neti Pot + Saline packet) Waterpik water flosser Therabreath Mouthwash (Available in all grocery stores + Amazon) Electronic toothbrush for teeth Manual toothbrush for tongue (I use Equate. Soft bristle) Brush between gentle and firm. Don't do it too firm but have a balance Metal tongue scraper Smartmouth Mouthwash (Available in all grocery stores + Amazon) I interchange this with Closys sometimes. Do not exceed using this twice a day about 10-12 hrs apart Oral Routine (Nighttime) Reflux Gourmet Waterpik water flosser (used sometimes) Electronic toothbrush for teeth with either Fluoride toothpaste (gingivitis) or Activated Charcoal Manual toothbrush for tongue with Closys toothpaste Brush between gentle and firm. Don't do it too firm but have a balance Metal tongue scraper Smartmouth Mouthwash Probiotics BLIS K12 & BLIS M18 Eating outside home routine 1 bad breath mint gel (listed below), followed by one or two reflux gourmet on-the-go pack. Light tongue brush + mouthwash if possible. Keeps me at a 2/3-BB instead of hovering around 4/5-BB. I sometimes chew gum to help my mouth not go dry Additional items I use for specific scenarios or once in a while Bad Breath mint gels I take 1 gel after I eat outside my home. Think restaurant, date or social outing. I take it right before I use Reflux Gourmet Contains peppermint, spearmint & parsley oils It Just Works - Internal Body Deodorizer I take this twice a week. A day before I have to be around people. When I first started taking this, my BB was gone for 3 days. It all came back after that but I kept it for the internal deodorizing benefits. I only use about twice, no more than 3x per week. 1 month supply lasts me 2-3 months Coconut Oil Pulling This significantly reduced my BB for a week during first use. It all came returning so I don't keep it in my daily regimen. I still do it about once or twice a week because of how clean my gums feel afterwards I'm now on a 20-day raw plant based diet + herbal cleanse. It's supercharging my breath. I woke up this morning without brushing. Spoke to my fiancèe (2 feet away) and she didn't even flinch. I NEVER thought this could be my life. I'm going to have a Colonic done within a week or so. Btw, I'm still consistent with my oral routine but these experiences feel like a NEW lease on life!!! I've abstained from alcohol for over 6 months and may experiment with it sometime in Q2. If any of you try this and it works or starts to improve symptoms, PLEASE comment. If it doesn't please also share and include how long you tried it for. Again, it will work for some and not for others since BB root causes can greatly vary!! I Pray & truly hope you all get this solved too so we can all enjoy every beautiful thing this life has to offer! Lmk if you have questions. YSK Impressive Ways to Use Activated Charcoal in the Home
Activated charcoal is much more porous compared to charcoal and is produced at higher temperatures. It's far better absorbent compared to charcoal and used in medicine as well. It is odorless, tasteless, black porous component. Considering number of activated charcoal uses in the home, it’s something that every family should have. How to reset activated charcoal without sunlight?
I recently started using activated charcoal as an odor neutralizer and it works great. My understanding is that it needs to be put in the sun every month or so to make get rid of any of the odor that's been absorbed. During the winter/rainy months, I don't have access to direct sunlight. Any suggestions on how to overcome this? submitted by /u/Thatguy125689 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]
