Ever since I got my AirPods Max 2, I've been completely stuck in ANC. Transparency and Adaptive Audio are totally inaccessible through any method: - Listening mode button → opens the battery popup instead of switching (seems like a symptom, not the root cause) - Control Center long-press → toggle is visible but does nothing - Settings → AirPods → noise control → also does nothing A few days ago it randomly worked for a brief moment on its own — no specific action triggered it — then stopped again immediately. What I've tried with no luck: - Full factory reset multiple times - Forget and re-pair multiple times - iOS 26.4 + latest AirPods firmware — both up to date Seems like a bug in iOS 26.4. You have no idea how much difference it makes! Adaptive mode allows me to actually hear myself and pace myself better as compared to ANC mode. I always thought ANC blocks background noises much better than Adaptive mode but only applies to sound coming in, not the sound going out. I just got my new QC ultra 2 and pretty disappointed with the adaptive ANC. Coming from Sony xm4 and when there was a train coming past my house 250 yards away I couldn’t even hear or when people talking in the same room I couldn’t hear it , but with the QCU2 those noises are far away enough or weak enough that they don’t trigger the adaptive and to kick in. If I hav a fan on high in my room the Bose is better and silencing that out, but for the other stuff I fire mentioned the Sony is better. Sure, sure, the AirPods Pro 3 are great. Coming from the AirPods Pro 1, I'm surprised about the difference. That said, I don't always want all special modes enabled. I don't volume go up due to Adaptive when I'm eating, I don't want (always) want to hear my keyboard clacking in transparency mode and I don't want everything filtered out constantly with ANC. Can I simply turn off everything and use it as regular wireless earbuds? I've preciously read that changing the conversation listening mode helps, but it doesn't. I returned the QC Ultra Gen 1 because the white noise drove me crazy and now I'm finding another problem with the QC Ultra Gen 2... So now the white background noise is fixed, as it only last like 7-10s when the music is on->off and then disappear but now I'm finding another problem. When I'm in complete silent (no music playing), and the ANC at maximum level, at first, I don't hear my air conditioner on, but when 40-50 seconds passes, it's like the ANC got weaker and I start to hear the AC completely. If I go back to the Bose app and change the 0-10 level from 10 to 8 and then back to 10, the ANC get to maximum again an I can't hear the AC, but when 1min passes, I can hear it again... WTF is this? Is some kind of AI deciding what level of ANC to change or what? I can't find any option in the Bose app to change this behavior. OMG, I changed from Bose 700 to QC Ultra 1 and now QC Ultra 2 and I can't find the "perfect" ANC headphone replacement to be completely happy. Important: I'm not taking about audio quality, at this level, I don't care, they are all good: I just want a good ANC without music playing on the headphones with good transparency mode and adjustment in the case I want 5/10 ANC. It seems like all the new ANC headphones are being launched with adaptive ANC. The XM5/XM6s, Soundcore, and now the Bose gen 2 ultras. All of them force Adaptive ANC with no way to turn off the adaptive part in their apps. This makes me sad because if adaptive ANC becomes the new norm, I just can't see myself using any of these newer headphones. Got the gen 2 headphones. The reviews and everyone saying the ANC is so great honestly baffles me. Because the first thing I immediately noticed was that the ANC did not want to stay at full strength. I've gone through all the settings. Upon some research, it turns out that this is a feature. Something that wasn't mentioned in the reviews I had seen.... If it wasnt for this issue, I would keep the headphones. So I'm wondering what are the chances Bose adds a toggle in the app to disable this feature and just have ANC stay constantly on at whatever level you set it to. A dream I’ve dreamt for most of my life. My old account of 6 years got locked where I embarked on a similiar type of trip for 2 years in central and South America. I am this close to returning the headphones because of this infuriating feature. I found out the hard way that the new headphones use this weird ass adaptive ANC and there's no way to change it. I can't remember a single video review mentioning that these use adaptive ANC that cannot be changed at all which sucks cause that's a huge difference from the XM4. The ANC keeps actively cycling to high/low when I'm in my room and the only noise in the background is a fan. Then if I adjust the position of the headphones it goes back to low mode. It doesn't work nearly as well in an office environment either, it never goes to "high" ANC mode. I also don't understand why it can't be controlled or why it can't be at max all the time. I never had any issues with the XM4, it worked flawlessly no matter where I was.
