Hehe, I did attempt a dumb April fools when I got AI to make up four Prince inspired shoes puporting to be a collab with Paisley Park. It was lame, nobody fell for it, and I felt bad. So when I had the strange idea to have a go at customising my first shoes thought was could I actually try and make real versions of those AI mock-ups. u/Ms_Mambo I do actually have a purple pair almost finished, and you did say you would buy those were they real. So far needs some work, but maybe will share next time. For now though, these are my first, and made for Mrs Kebab. The Raspberry Beret Superstars. I have included a picture of where the inspiration came from, also the original shoe I ruined by spraying with paint. I know, they are not brilliant, but this is my first attempt, and I am kinda into the idea now and maybe something I could get better at. ​ Man we thought we were the shit. The timing was perfect too, we were both in local bands and the chicks were crazy for this kinda thing. As I write this, i feel less like its a blunder but im 42 now and you wouldn't catch me dressed like this. Those bells were 36 freaking inches. Now itd be like maybe a 20, just enough to cover the shoe but let my toe stick out. I truly miss all my greed by kikwear jeans, comfy and not too crazy. I dont remember who made those black jeans, but the pockets were red satin with black skull and crossbones on it. I still have a pair of Adidas superstars but they're in need of retirement. Still wear band shirts and sometimes throw a button up over it. I guess im embracing my blunder years. Also, its hard to see in such an old photo, but my hair was comic book black. Like so black that it had a blue shine to it in the light, just like a lot of comic characters in the 90s (esp marvel). Im a weird dad now lol. Or am I cool dad.... is that even a thing? Today im in camouflage cargo shorts, and shirt from the alien franchise (meant to grab hellraiser but didnt feel like changing), and my dc steel toes. These were released over Christmas, and from what I can see are only officially available in one store "Shoe Palace" so it is understandable how they flew under the radar somewhat. In fact the first, and only time, they hit my radar was somebody posting the brown pair here a couple of months ago. But I also wonder if there is another reason these had a low-key release, and I only say that because despite them being called a "Muhammad Ali" colab, the odd thing I discovered when unboxing them is that there is no mention of the great man anywhere. Not the box, or the label, nowhere on the shoe is his name mentioned. I mean, they are clearly about him, there are more than enough references to him all over these things. But never his name. It makes me wonder whether there is a more legal reason for that and hence the fairly low key release. Anyway, the shoes themselves are very awesome, especially the brown pair. They are stunning tbh. I ended up buying these when spending a day looking at the Lux made in Italy. A pair I think are fantastic, but I remembered these and went looking for them. Realising I could buy both pairs for less than a pair of the Lux I decided this was the better option - and the brown pair especially are very lux indeed - the leather is incredible. For what is supposed to be a set I am surprised at some of the differences. While they both share the same little gloves, slogans, innersoles, quotes and even the delightful butterfly and bee under the tongue, they also have some differences; The white pair has stars instead of the standard holes between the stripes as per the brown. The brown has a golden crown on the heel tab of the left shoe, while the white goes with trefoil on both. The white has stripes on the outsides but none on the insides, where the brown has stripes on both sides, although in the same colour as the side panel. And obviously, the biggest difference is the shell toes. Love the brown one, the reason why the Lux made me remember them in the first place. So while they are clearly a set, they are each also quite unique. Anyway, these are absolutely awesome. I am so happy with them both - although the brown is easily my favourite. Such a beautiful colour. I highly recommend these for any of the Superstar fans out there.
