Before I start: if you recognize this room plz keep this a secret. I’m so paranoid and ashamed. WHY DOES THIS HAVE SO MANY SHARES 😭😭omggg 70k views this is lowkey a nightmare but im keeping it up as inspiration for those! I’m not sure where to post this but I was cleaning my room and it reminded me of how far I’ve come and I should be proud of myself. This was my room last April, I lived like this for 7 months and I hate to admit it- the floor photo wasn’t even when it was it’s worse. Well and when it didn’t look like this, you still couldn’t see the floor..i was always so ashamed. I felt like I was lying to everyone and deep down that I was a slob that won’t get better. I have always been a messy person, but looking back- I should have gotten a therapist. They say ur room is a reflection of your mind and in this time I was going through a lot of stress and trauma that led to extreme anxiety, I was even scared to run into my roommate in our hallway..my best friend. This clean took 8 hours. Now, when I clean my room it takes 1 to be done. Here is the differences between my old room and now :) I have downsized and every weekend I choose a day to clean. Along with “if you can put it down you can put it away” and if I notice I spiral and clean my desk but then start the closet but then start etc etc I’ve learned to just recognize it and stick to whatever I’m doing. Although I also usually work 17 hr days so I’m barely home and when I am, I’m too exhausted to make a mess LOL P.s my beautiful kitty was not living with me at the time of the messy room. And it’s one reason why I never let it get that bad. She lives in this apartment for her life, every hour, every second. Her home is my home and my home needs to be clean for her home. Hello everyone, I seem to have a condition where I decorate a space most of the way and then hit a wall and stay stuck to it forever. In an attempt to remove my face from the plaster, I shuffled some things around my apartment but I still have reservations about it, particularly this living room. I feel like I have a collection of things that I like in a room, and not a space that works together. There's a nagging sense that it's a few small changes needed to tie everything in together and make it feel more inviting, which is great because I don't have the resources at the moment to change out a bunch of furniture. Ideally I'd like a space that feels warm and lived-in, not a room inspired by a ghibli movie so much as a room that would inspire a ghibli scene. This apartment is shot-gun style, meaning that every room is in a straight line. The living room has the front door behind the couch (there's a bookshelf at the back of the couch separating it from the door and creating a faux entryway), the only windows are in front of the couch, and there are two massive entryways into other rooms on either side, so no wall to really put anything against except where the TV is. That wall is a layer of plaster on solid brick and incredibly difficult to mount anything on. This layout is the best I've found to accommodate for the paths of travel, outlet placement, and view. From where I usually sit on the couch, I feel it may be too leggy at the moment. The barrel chair is new, and I ordered a solid footstool (picture 7) and am thinking of getting a solid end table (like the one in picture 8 though I am open for suggestions) to go with the chair and break up some of the leggy-ness of the space. I like that I can move the TV to different rooms since it's on the cart, but yeah it's not pretty. I'm currently thinking if there's something I can put in front of the bottom of the stand to hide the legs and wheels. I'd love to get one of those cabinets that hides a TV and it lifts out of the cabinet but those are quite pricey. For the walls I have a forest painting currently living on my coffee table that will go on the wall by the barrel chair along with one of those photo shelves where I can put random knick-knacks. For the wall on the opposite side above the chair and table I was thinking perhaps textile art in neutral colors since the other two are paintings. What do y'all think? This is a poorly written rant… My wife insisted on buying a house. We left our luxury apartment in the arts district and got pretty much the only house we could afford in the rural suburb we wanted. Now I’m the gardener, handyman, pool man, maid, and financier. She helps out a little here and there, like loading the dishwasher but it’s mostly me because we have a pretty tight budget and she’s pregnant. I’m pretty miserable. I feel like all my free time goes into this rundown house and my to do list is infinite. I miss my old roof top pool and jacuzzi. I miss the gym, rec rooms, and concierge. I miss my neighbors’ amazing cars and my wall to ceiling windows with views of LA that were inspiring. I miss being able to walk to bars and restaurants. We’ve made a bunch of equity on the house and she loves it. We’re about to have a kid and the extra room is nice but I’m seriously considering renting out our house and moving back to an apartment. Anyway, a little background. My wife and I have been together 16 years, married for 11. I need decoration advices for my living room :( This is also where I have my office and where I do my stream (I am a streamer)..Apologies for the couch and table, it is a mess. I used the have the back wall full of leaves but with cats it's a more complicated task and they all fell so we removed the sides one. Today, I’ll introduce an unsolved murder case that is still widely discussed here in Korea. This case is very infamous as there is not a single clear piece of evidence leading to the murder, and the trace of the perpetrator has been found to this day. (It was also mentioned once in this sub 5 years ago.) I’m Korean and English is not my first language. So please understand my lack of writing skills. There are two excellent articles regarding this case. So, if anything happens, it is highly likely that someone would’ve been captured on a security cam, or had been seen by someone. Also, to enter the apartment, there is a guarded door, only opened by calling directly to the person who lives there, or scanned through the card key. By which in former, you would’ve been seen by guards. But in this case, no one did. No one was ever captured. The female victim, Ms. Lee was a 69-year-old elderly woman. She and her husband, 73-year-old Mr. Park moved into the apartment in early 2010, in room number 1403. (Which means their room was on the fourteenth floor.) THE MURDER On October 17, 2010, Mr. Park left the house at 05:00 am for a golf meeting with his friends. Around 8 am, Ms. Lee called his friend who lives in Seoul, talking about how her life has been lately for 18 minutes. Then, Ms. Lee hung up the call, saying, “I have to go to the Senior Center.” This is the last confirmed moment when Ms. Lee was alive. (Now, this thing, a Senior Center. I’m not sure if it’s also a thing in other countries, but in Korea, it means a small center built on an apartment block, where the elderly people who live there can meet each other and spend time together. It’s a common thing here in Korea.) Later, about 11 pm, Mr. Park returned home and entered the bedroom, where he found Ms. Lee’s lifeless body. She was stabbed ten times. After the investigation, the police also found 11 defensive wounds, indicating that Ms. Lee fought with the killer aggressively, to her last breath. And nothing significant was stolen from the house. The weapon used in the murder was a kitchen knife. And the killer was suspected to have come out of the bathroom with sleepers on, headed to the kitchen, grabbed the knife, and killed the victim who was in the bedroom. By all means, it was highly likely that the killer was someone who was familiar with the victim. And the police thought it would be very easy to catch him/her as it had happened in a highly-secured apartment block. Which, to this day, the killer has never found. INVESTIGATION Police thought the husband, Mr. Park, as the prime suspect. But it was later revealed that he was caught in security cams when he was leaving for golf at 5am, and also returned home at 11am. Not to mention a friend who was with him, proved that Mr. Park was with him all along, meaning that killing Ms. Lee was physically impossible. (But there’s a possibility that Mr.Park hired a hitman to kill his wife. But since it’s just a theory, I won’t talk about it more.) The prime question regarding the killer is this. “How did the killer enter and leave the apartment without any traces?” Although police checked numerous security cams, no one suspicious was caught there. And here’s the most important (and terrifying thing) of this case. To enter the apartment room, a person should go through a security device door. Which was able to enter in three ways: First, scan the key card. Second, enter the security cord. And third, the person inside the room, seeing who is outside the door, and opens it. This, is the weirdest part of this case. Which means that it is highly likely that Ms. Lee, WILLINGLY opened the door for the person who would later kill her. This is the reason why many people suspected that the killer would be someone who knew Ms. Lee, and just as old as her, as I mentioned above, the killer barely killed the victim while leaving 11 defensive wounds. So, let’s straighten things up. The killer barely killed Ms. Lee as he/she left 11 stab wounds, which means he/she is likely to be either as old as her, or has a physical disability. Ms. Lee willingly opened the door for the killer, meaning it is highly likely she was already familiar with the killer. To mention it again, no one suspicious was caught on security cams during the murder was occurred. So, the police, and people, came up with a very strong theory: that the killer was someone who was already inside the apartment when the murder was occurring, and never entered or left the apartment in the first place. That’s right, people suspected the "neighbor" who lives in the same apartment as Ms. Lee as the killer. For this reason, the forensic team had to investigate every single person who lived in the apartment where the murder occurred. But unfortunately, nothing suspicious was found. And also, the motive behind this murder is also a mystery. Although Ms. Lee lived on a wealthy block. She was an old woman, and allegedly had no resentment towards anyone. And as I mentioned, nothing significant was stolen. So why was she killed in the first place? And very sadly, this is where the investigation into this case ends. Not a single helpful clue was found, not even a tiny piece of information. And even after 15 years, this case remains unsolved. I couldn’t find how Mr. Park is doing now, but considering his age, it is likely that he has already passed away. THEORY I’ll write about this only briefly. I do, too, strongly believe that the killer was the neighbor. And as far as I know, the forensic investigation occurred about a month after the murder happened, which means the killer could’ve got rid of evidence in the meantime. I also highly doubt foul play was involved during the investigation. Since it is very absurd that not a single piece of evidence was found. How could? The police must’ve made a mistake during the investigation or else. And since the killer is likely to be a similar age to Ms. Lee, it is possible he/she has already passed away by now due to an old age, which means this case could remain unsolved forever. The part that really disturbs me. This is the end of my post. Hi all - thanks in advance for listening. I’m probably writing this out mostly for myself, but seeing the support this sub has shown for others inspired me to post here.l and share my story. On Monday, I had to part with my mate of 15 years, Meeko. We had laps of love come to our home for his final journey. A month ago we noticed that he had lost a pound (thanks litter robot) and then we heard a few coughs here and there. He was always mega picky, but we were noticing that there was a bit more leftover food than usual (we have two cats). We took him to the vet where extensive testing of blood work found nothing. However because of the cough, we decided to do an x-ray for pneumonia which revealed the worst: metastatic lung cancer. After an ultrasound, they also found a large inoperable mass in his liver. At list time our vet informed us of the poor outlook for this type of cancer and the inoperable nature, but I refused to quit. I called and begged to get him specialist appointments, including one with a surgery department that tested the lung fluid and confirmed the worst. We put him on Mirataz and Cerenia to help control symptoms. Over this month he continued to lose weight. In June he was 10 lbs, and last week he was down to 7. Despite this he was still himself: snuggly, sweet, and playful. This inspired us to keep fighting to see if maybe there was any treatment we could seek. Despite me calling, networking begging and pleading with every doctor in an hour radius, I finally got him an oncologist appointment this Thursday. However in the last week it got bad and he was isolating from us, had lost so much weight, completely stopped eating and was moving around slowly. Still purring and snuggling and could jump into bed, and no litter box accidents, but having elevated breathing and preferring to be alone in a dark room. So we called laps of love to come Monday. We also as a last ditch effort got elura since he had not eaten in 5 days. The elura made him loopy and weird, but it was like stoner munchies times a million. After we called laps of love, the oncologist finally got back to us. She agreed treatment was not really an option and that if you’re worried your cat won’t live long enough to make the appointment, then even less so for it to be successful. It’s was a fraction of a fraction of a percent. Monday morning, he actually had a really good day. Despite now being 6.8 lbs, he was a bit more himself. We did everything- went and sat in the sun, got snuggles, played with string, even ate some tuna. When laps of love came he even went to the scratching post for one more scratch. I came so close to sending them away, so that we could have more time together. But ultimately when we came to our senses that it was probably days and not weeks left, and that the alternative would be bad (when the lung fluid overwhelmed he’d feel like he was drowning) we knew that we should take this good day as a gift and say our final goodbyes. We left the room to deliberate and when we came back he was napping in the basket that laps of love brought. I held him the whole time. The whole thing was five minutes but has been on repeat in my mind for the last 48 hours. I can’t sleep or eat and I can barely function. I miss him so much, there is nothing in my entire apartment I can’t look out without a memory making me break down. Everything hurts so bad. I cannot stop beating myself up. I wish I caught it sooner, even though likely there never was an option to begin with. I wish I sent laps of love away but I know if we had an emergency it would have been cruel and he would have suffered and his last day would not be the sweet sunny day we had, but a frantic trip to the ER with all of us terrified. I wish I had more time but I know it would never be enough, and even though I want to think we had a lot of time left it might have maybe been a week at best. I know a good day when they are at the end is a gift, but it feels cruel to take him when he was having a nice morning. The logical part of my mind knows we made the kind and compassionate choice, but the emotional part of me hurts worse than any pain I’ve ever felt. It was too soon, he was supposed to live until 20. 15 is not enough. I failed him and even though we were attached I wish I cancelled even more plans and was home more. So idk, I guess this is screaming into the void, and it was long and I’m sorry for having to blast this all out here. I’m just lost. I’m really happy with some of the small-space tricks I’ve used in my apartment recently, and wanted to share for inspiration. I live in a 30 sqm (approx. 323 sq ft) studio apartment and had to get creative to make it feel more spacious. Around my bed, I’ve painted a half-height accent wall — the same height as my room-dividing shelf — to “frame” the sleeping area and give it its own sense of space. For my workspace, I’ve placed it in the hallway. I grew up poor. I married, had 2 boys and raised them alone after my divorce when they were 3 and 6. Long story short, I worked hard, moved a lot and sacrificed a lot for my boys. They are now grown and moved out. My last dog died in February and for the first time in my life, I'm taking care of no one but me. I've been involved in dog rescue for 25 years, focusing on hospice rescue for the past 7 or 8. I have lurked here since February, when my blind, diabetic Bullmastiff passed and I decided to downsize from a 4 bedroom house owned by a slumlord to this beautiful apartment (I couldn't move her. She was too old and she was comfortable in the crap house). I learned what I liked and didn't. I pinterested and ChatGPT'd stuff. I stalked this sub. Found my apartment. 3 days after I signed the rental agreement here, an animal chewed through my other rentals ceiling. I was DONE. For the first time in my life, I bought what I wanted, not what was cheap on Marketplace. I learned that peel and stick shit is your best friend in a rental and I'm acquiring all the rugs and plants. I bought a sunset lamp cuz I have a cathedral ceiling! Woohoo! What a journey this project has been! Four previous drafts, endless hours, and just about every swear word in the English language — but we did it! This is by far the heaviest and most complex project I’ve done to date. I started out wanting to learn more about winter wear and came away with a newfound understanding and respect for it. This was a self-drafted project, but there are a few patterns that helped me get here. The sloper is a bodice block from Lulu64. The design is heavily inspired by 90s-era Starter Jackets, and the Unicose 2306 pattern helped me understand some of the mechanics of that style. Green Pepper’s Fairbanks Anorak pattern also provided useful instructions on construction — mainly how to line a jacket with a quarter zipper. Using all that intel, I put the sloper into adobe illustrator to make my pattern alterations, and then printed out my new pattern on 24x36 paper from a local print shop. The shell and lining came from a vintage curtain I took apart, and it’s insulated with 100g Thinsulate. This was my first time making an insulated jacket. It wasn’t too much harder, but it definitely required a lot more time. This jacket was a beast. Like I said, it’s the heaviest and most complex jacket I’ve made so far. I think I broke four needles by the end. I’m sewing on an old White 571 machine, and I definitely pushed its limits on this one. I tacked the seam allowances of the lining and shell together at the hood and collar — probably should’ve done the sleeves too. Next time (if I feel like going through that torture again), I’ll use bias tape or something similar to tack things together more cleanly. The zipper was the hardest part — both technically and because the jacket is just so bulky. I’d never done a lined quarter zip before. It’s also the area where I have the most room to improve, but I’m still hecka proud of it. Overall, I’m stoked to be done with this. Winter’s basically over, but I live in Utah, so another snow day or two isn’t off the table. I’ve got plenty of this fabric left, but I doubt I’ll make another winter jacket with it. Maybe a bomber or a denim-style coat instead. For now, I promised my girlfriend I’d make us matching track suits for an upcoming family reunion, so that’s my next big project. What items do you find make apartment living much easier/enjoyable? Mine are: Mesh screen door: My current place does not have a slider with a screen. I open up the patio door each day and this keeps the bugs out. Sound machine: I can hear every footstep above me and this is a must for me to sleep. I usually play a fan or white noise sound. I even have one for the living room at night so that my dog doesn’t bark at every little noise. Foldable wire grocery/utility cart: This is the item that inspired me to make this post. I found mine at goodwill and originally bought it with another use in mind… but this is now my trash cart after I needed help when I had hurt my arm. This makes taking the trash out sooo much easier! Whether it be heavy items, or light but awkward to carry like boxes etc… people see me with this and say it’s a great idea. Obviously not always needed, but it comes in handy. Tonight the dumpster I usually use was full and I had to go to one further away. The cart was loaded up with a trash bag and several boxes and I was grateful to have it! Pic included so it’s clear on what type I’m referring to. Blink camera (battery operated) and tension mount: Check your lease to see if this is allowed. My place has nothing in the lease and no issue with it. It helps me feel safe but I do feel it helps deter any potential porch pirates. I am a Japanese dude born and raised in Japan. You can read more details in my old AMA post, but essentially I couldn’t find a good job after graduating from uni. I was too proud of my writing skills and had a delusion that I could live by writing novels in the coming several years. It was my first but not the last delusion. Years later, I realized my novels were not marketable, went back to my hometown, and became a shut-in in my family’s apartment. My plan was to practice manga drawing to become an indie manga artist. In Japan, there is/was a huge market for indie manga called Doujin. I thought this market had the best opportunity for me to express my imagination, even though I couldn’t draw at all at the time. Several years had passed. Eventually I released a couple of my works on online doujin stores. They sold hundreds of copies but couldn’t afford me to live on my own. Some of you guys might know that doujin market is heavily inclined toward the adult/hentai genre. You need real talent to keep you motivated in this market. I can testify that. I came to hate my drawing so much. I couldn’t pursue doujin manga career anymore. My delusion came to an end again. I was scared of how old I had already become while depending on my family. But I couldn’t abandon my desire to live on my creation. I couldn’t find meanings outside of my own creation. I said to myself that this was the last time. I chose indie game development as my last chance. I started learning a game engine(Unreal Engine) and 3D modeling. That was 8 years ago. After a couple of demo projects, I started working on my first commercial project Pull Stay. It’s a comedic Beat ‘em up game. But meanwhile, the game addresses the theme of being a shut-in, reflects my own emotional experiences. Pull Stay gradually getting into shape after 2 years of development, I published the Steam page of the game. However, the traffic to the page was not great. The game was struggling to get eyeballs. Then, here comes you guys. I was advised to post AMA to change the situation. I had zero confidence in whether people would want to hear my experience. I was so anxious as heck to push the post button. Turned out it was one of the best moves in my life. I received overwhelming responses. For the first time, I realized that my English was passable to communicate with people. This exposure and experience led me to my successful Kickstarter campaign later in 2020. Thanks to the Kickstarter fund, I could become almost independent. While my family let me keep living in their apartment, I could afford every expense other than rent. I need to thank Epic(Unreal Engine developer) for giving me a grant as well. I kept working on Pull Stay, dreaming that I would finally become an independent creator living on his own creation. The pandemic passed through while I was working in my room. Last year, I talked with my family, and we decided that I would go out of the apartment. It was not just me getting old after a decade of shut-in days. They were too. I decided to move to Georgia(country) alone. This is the first time I have lived abroad. You might feel it’s too random. But I felt the strong urge to change my life. During my hikikomori years, I couldn’t get any new experience outside of the internet. I strongly felt I needed new experiences for the sake of my creation. I wanted to gain new inspiration from the real world outside of my Hikikomori room. But why Georgia? Because Georgia is a very rare(only?) country where you can live for one year without a visa. Georgia is a great country, guys! Pull Stay was not finished yet, but I made a plan to publish it as an Early Access game. I would ship Pull Stay with 85% of the completion, and keep developing it with players’ feedback. Beat ‘em up genre like Pull Stay is not particularly suitable for Early Access, rather not be recommended in general. But I couldn’t financially afford one more year of development. Also, I genuinely wanted to decide on additional elements of the game based on the user feedback. Now, I’m writing this from my apartment in Georgia. Proof I don’t go outside, just working in my apartment just the same as I was in Japan. This Monday, I released my first commercial game Pull Stay into Early Access on Steam. It took 6 years. I imagined I would burst into tears when I pushed the release button. Weirdly calm I was. Paralyzed? Maybe. The real shock came to me last night, 2 days after the release. It’s not selling well. I don’t want to use this word, but some people might call it “flop” Please don’t take me wrong. I am extremely fortunate to have a lot of genuine supporters. I’m so happy and grateful to them. Many people told me they love Pull Stay. But still. The stats show that Pull Stay has not been able to reach out to the broader audience. Like my novels, my work of passion couldn’t ring the bell with others seemingly once again. I feel like I’ve been walking on a spiral corridor in my whole life. This is my tower of dreams. I obviously objected, and said I felt as though my husband and I should have that room as this is a vacation with family to celebrate OUR marriage, plus we paid for this entire trip? Wouldn’t one just sit back and be grateful they’re on a free vacation instead of complaining? My grandparents freaked out. Saying I’m holding money above their head and that I’m being disrespectful and not following their orders. They stormed off after threatening to take the first flight out tomorrow morning and leaving. Idk what to do. My side of the family is telling me to just give them the room to be respectful and bring peace to the family, while my husbands side thinks my grandparents are bat shit crazy and I agree. After a lot of persuading and even having to send our baby cousin to their room to soften them up, they finally decided to come. I made the first conversation by asking if they looked at any flights to leave yet, they could forward the paystub to my cell. They said they hadn’t looked yet and that should be my job if I was kicking them out?? I made sure they knew I was not kicking them out, but understood if they wanted to leave and offered to send some staff to their room to pack up their belongings so they could have a little more time to explore, or get their complimentary in room massage that comes with all the bungalows. They kind of stopped eating and looked at each other in shock. Every time they threaten not to go anywhere, my family has always babied them and begged them not to leave and offer money or extravagant gifts for them to stay. Well, I’m not doing that. I’ll pay for their flight back home, but I’ve already done enough accommodating on MY honeymoon vacation. So there you have it. My grandparents weren’t even planning to go home, they tried scaring me into begging them to stay. I called their bluff. After breakfast, I found a flight leaving around 5pm and walked to the main desk to ask them to cancel reservations for that room for the rest of the trip and to send staff to help pack. They also didn’t get their complimentary massage because the resort only offers that on 4 night stays or longer. Staff came to help pack, and they left half an hour ago. Im currently in my villa de stressing before dinner and some uncles came in(who were married into family) and confided in me that they were sick and tired of the entitlement my grandparents have had since day 1 and they were glad someone born into the family decided to speak up. My cousins came over and honestly couldn’t care less my grandparents are gone, in their words “they kill the vibe”. So everyone’s happy right now and is using my slide before cleaning up for dinner. I’m happy I was able to stand up to my grandparents without being blatantly disrespectful. I have an overflow of messages and comments, that I can’t get back to. However, the main question is what my profession is. I did not go the usual Asian route. I actually dropped out my last year of college and started a fashion line that took a couple years to take off, but surprisingly sky rocketed a few years ago. We have not even made it a whole 24 hours here yet and a fight has already broken out. During dinner, my cousin mentioned wanting to come over and use our slide. My grandparents asked what we were talking about and asked to see pictures of our room. Well, they saw my villa and demanded that we trade rooms with them as no elders should made to “slave” and live as “peasants” while their grandchildren get a nicer room. This is bora bora we’re talking about. No one is living as a peasant here. There was only 1 villa available in our section. Had I given it to my grandparents I think it would’ve been offensive to my husbands grandparents. If there was 3, we would’ve given it to both grandparents and 1 for ourself. But unfortunately, there wasn’t. I mentioned this and they still demanded the villa. I obviously objected, and said I felt as though my husband and I should have that room as this is a vacation with family to celebrate OUR marriage, plus we paid for this entire trip? Wouldn’t one just sit back and be grateful they’re on a free vacation instead of complaining? My grandparents freaked out. Saying I’m holding money above their head and that I’m being disrespectful and not following their orders. They stormed off after threatening to take the first flight out tomorrow morning and leaving. Idk what to do. My side of the family is telling me to just give them the room to be respectful and bring peace to the family, while my husbands side thinks my grandparents are bat shit crazy and I agree. They are so ridiculous. All I wanted was both sides of the family to get together and get to know each other and now it’s falling apart. I don’t think I’m the asshole at all, but I’ve been up all night thinking wether I should just squash it and invite my grandparents to stay in my villa in order for them not to leave. But another part of me just wants to tell them to go fuck themselves for making my honey moon about themselves, just like they do with everything else. So Reddit, what do I do? UPDATE Even though I really wanted to be petty and tell them to fuck off, I decided it’d be better to kill them with kindness so they have little to work with if they decide to spin it around that I was disrespectful. During breakfast my grandparents refused to show up if I was there. Everyone tried calling them-nope we’re not coming cause disrespectful granddaughter is there. After a lot of persuading and even having to send our baby cousin to their room to soften them up, they finally decided to come. I made the first conversation by asking if they looked at any flights to leave yet, they could forward the paystub to my cell. They said they hadn’t looked yet and that should be my job if I was kicking them out?? I made sure they knew I was not kicking them out, but understood if they wanted to leave and offered to send some staff to their room to pack up their belongings so they could have a little more time to explore, or get their complimentary in room massage that comes with all the bungalows. They kind of stopped eating and looked at each other in shock. Every time they threaten not to go anywhere, my family has always babied them and begged them not to leave and offer money or extravagant gifts for them to stay. Well, I’m not doing that. I’ll pay for their flight back home, but I’ve already done enough accommodating on MY honeymoon vacation. So there you have it. My grandparents weren’t even planning to go home, they tried scaring me into begging them to stay. I called their bluff. After breakfast, I found a flight leaving around 5pm and walked to the main desk to ask them to cancel reservations for that room for the rest of the trip and to send staff to help pack. They also didn’t get their complimentary massage because the resort only offers that on 4 night stays or longer. Staff came to help pack, and they left half an hour ago. Im currently in my villa de stressing before dinner and some uncles came in(who were married into family) and confided in me that they were sick and tired of the entitlement my grandparents have had since day 1 and they were glad someone born into the family decided to speak up. My cousins came over and honestly couldn’t care less my grandparents are gone, in their words “they kill the vibe”. So everyone’s happy right now and is using my slide before cleaning up for dinner. I’m happy I was able to stand up to my grandparents without being blatantly disrespectful. I have an overflow of messages and comments, that I can’t get back to. However, the main question is what my profession is. I did not go the usual Asian route. I actually dropped out my last year of college and started a fashion line that took a couple years to take off, but surprisingly sky rocketed a few years ago. My dad is also an entrepreneur, I looked up to him and am so glad I had him as an inspiration who paved the way. Hi Reddit! In May of 2015, inspired by a trip to a grocery store in China, I decided to start an online business to sell international snacks! We delivers a box of snacks from a different country around the world each month straight to your door! The moment of epiphany occurred when I purchased a Choco Pie (it's a Korea chocolate coated marshmallow snack), a snack that loved as a kid, and I remembered thinking “It's a real shame most people from outside of Asia will never have a chance to try this.” At this point in time I’d recently quit my job to pursue my dreams of starting a business, so when I got the idea I dove right in. I went to the local ethnic markets around me and bought all the snacks I could find in order to determine if I actually enjoyed eating snacks from other countries. To my relief I did! Over a period of three months, from the living room of my apartment (and with about $5000 in savings), I built a website, found a warehouse, and laid the groundwork for the launch of the company. At the end of July 2015 the website was live and the company officially in business. The business has since grown exponentially and it’s been an exhilarating experience throughout. During the first six months I felt like I was in a constant fight for survival - to build the company, launch it, and grow fast enough before I ran out of money. To maximize the amount of cash that could put in the business, I put all my personal expenses on my credit card, racking up thousands in debt. I also took on personal and business loans to keep the company afloat as it was growing.
