If you are searching for a navigation device, you can simply use apple maps on apple watch very seamlessly. Watch starts navigation as soon as you start navigation in your iphone. I agree the display turns off after 70 seconds of inactivity, but you can tap the display when confused of roads. I had recently switched from an Apple Watch ultra 1 to an 11 series and the first few days it was incredible the battery was enough and the comfort? Incredible. But I quickly understood that despite that it was a cause of constant stress. The fear of rubbing it somewhere or breaking it without doing it on purpose made me think every time. I ended up breaking it then once the repair was done I was able to have it taken back by Apple in order to switch to an ultra 3. Definitely less comfortable, less "adapted" to my work but at least I am more reassured on a daily basis then the Alpin loop is just too soft. Unpopular opinion: Most "minimalist" phones are a ripoff. Why pay more for less? If you want a dumb phone, buy a $10 burner. If you want a functional minimalist life, try your apple watch or some other cellular watch. The Setup: Leave the iPhone in the car or a drawer. Watch handles the essentials (Calls, Texts, Apple Pay, Safety). Same number, no extra SIM hassle. I found myself obsessing over e-ink displays and "minimalist" hardware, but realized I was just hunting for a new dopamine hit. The Watch solves the "doom-scroll" problem immediately without the "2nd phone" headache. Highly recommend for anyone stuck in the research phase. It's been a game changer for me. EDIT: I already had the apple watch. Just turned on the lite features. It's the ultra and last for 48/hrs before I have to charge it. I saw the other post on here about Apple Watch saving a life and wanted to post my story as well. I woke up around 1am on Saturday and felt my heart beating out of my chest. I didn’t think much of it and tried going back to sleep. When I woke up again I woke up to the AFIB notification and was kinda beside myself. Because of this notification I pushed myself to go to urgent care to get checked, next thing I know I am in the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital. At the hospital they put me under and shocked my heart back into rhythm to make a long story short. If it wasn’t for the Apple Watch and the notifications and the ECG feature I would’ve went to work that day thinking it was just a “weird” heart day. I cannot thank Apple Watch enough for there health features and I will never ever be taking it off. My series 7 decided to fall on the floor, totally not my fault, then proceeded to try and bang my robot vacuum. The screen now has what I would call a matte finish. The scratches don’t appear thaaat deep, but I assume there’s no fixing/buffing this out. I only wear the Apple Watch at night for sleep tracking or during those rare days where I work out. The beat up screen actually doesn’t bother me much, but if there are any cheap ways to maybe buff out the scratches, any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. Hey everyone, I’ve owned several Apple Watches over the years, I started with the Series 1, then bought the Series 7 (which I ended up returning), tried the Apple Watch Ultra (also returned it, even though I liked the battery life), and last year the Series 10, which I also returned. After watching a bunch of YouTube videos, I realized that the Apple Watch and smartwatches in general are pretty bad when it comes to tracking calories accurately. I go to the gym and work out quite a lot, so that’s something I really care about. Aside from that, I’m honestly wondering what do you guys actually use your Apple Watch for? Since owning the first one back in 2016, I’ve never really missed having it. For me, a watch has always just been… a watch. I got my watch a year or two ago as a freebie from my health insurance company for meeting certain activity goals. (Bonus!) I was initially a grouchy, 55/M, 'watch skeptic' since I'm not trying to add unnecessary tech to my life. But, free? I'm not that grouchy! I think it's the coolest tech invention since the smartphone itself. I may be preaching to the choir here, but I know lots of folks who consider smartwatches silly and useless, or simply a flashy bauble to show on the wrist. The thing I love the most is that it enables me to keep my phone in my pocket and perform so many tasks which would normally require me to remove said phone, unlock it, then click on an app. Now these tasks are accomplished with a simple glance at my wrist. I don't use any other watch faces except the Modular one. I'm in this game for functionality. This is by far the most useful and you can add a shit-ton of apps (I refuse to use the term complication). No hate for those who love the many weird faces you can use, if that's your bag, enjoy! Note: I do have a couple psychedelic ones I will throw on if going out somewhere fun. I walk outdoors 8-9 miles daily, in Florida...year round. Having access to the weather, sunrise/sunset (with popup alerts for incoming rain, etc) is worth the cost of admission alone. I don't need Apples silly activity rings, so I added a 3rd party step counter app which works brilliantly. (Apple not having a step counter is f-ing WILD AF) Also - my iPhone interacts with the watch seamlessly which is especially amazing for driving as I can turn off the MAPS voice and just use the watch haptics to alert me to upcoming turns and exits. What can't this thing do? I'm no Apple loyalist FYI...my job provides my phone, and they like Apple so that's what I use, but I am a huge fan of well-designed technology which reduces the amount of time my phone is in my hand. It just randomly hit me today... we live in the future times that I dreamed about as a child of the 70's.
