I haven't met a single person that believes what I believe, and that is that the green apple flavor for skittles was great and much better than the original lime. While I still enjoy skittles and the lime flavor, green apple was so much better and I hate that they took it away. Since I was a kid, green apple was one of my favorite flavors of anything. Laffy Taffy, Jolly Rancher, and virtually every candy under the sun. Skittles were no exception, from the time I was 10 to the time I was 18 with green apple. When I was a kid I remember most guys having them. I mostly noticed them on 90s kids when they were teenagers, I thought when my generation got older they’d have them but I’m looking around now and I don’t see any Adam’s apples. Them mfrs used to look like they could stab someone’s eye out and now I’m lucky to see a little bump. Where did they go? Did they get bred out by a single generation? So we installed this truly massive, fully mature 8”+ caliper Apple tree for a client a few months ago. While servicing the property the other day we noticed these holes in it. Turns out the homeowner’s kid shot it like 20+ times with a pellet gun… The holes are not looking good. They’re staying wet, the wood inside is looking like it’s rotting. I was gently poking around trying to extract the pellets and there was a lot of soft spots and brown gooey pasty yuk in there. Is there anything I can do to help this tree? What’s the prognosis? (Posting for a friend)My daughter Brynn is 3 years old and she was invited to a classmates bday party. (She is in preschool)I was glad to bring her for water slides and cake to celebrate her classmates birthday. However my daughter has an egg allergy and I thought instead of putting that burden on another parent I would just get her an egg free cupcake myself. I still wanted her to take part in the festivities and celebrate her friends birthday. I thought this was a good idea, but then while at the party another parent pulled me aside and asked why I brought Brynn her own cupcake. I explained my daughter’s allergies and she said she understood, but it might make the other kids feel bad since hers is different and “special”. She added it might make the bday girl feel bad bc it’s supposed to be her special day. Now I’m not sure. I was trying to do right by my daughter, I wasn’t trying to make the other kids feel bad. Am I the bad apple? EDIT: I should probably specify the parent complaining isn’t the parent of the bday girl, but another parent at the party. Why YSK: It's safe from the time you're a toddler to an adult. Apple seeds do contain trace amounts cyanide, but the seeds need to be crushed for it to be released. Even then, the amount is so trace an adult would need to eat hundreds of crushed seeds to begin feeling ill. I bet most people will likely feel full from eating seeds before feeling ill from poison. The seeds don't taste good so I doubt you'll be craving hundreds them. If you don't chew the seeds, they can pass through your digestive system fully intact, and will be pooped out safely to help spread the apple population. I guess that's why they're oval shaped and smooth This all came up because my wife and I were arguing if our teething daughter was OK eating the entire apple; like nothing was ever left behind. My wife "Lisa" has been sick for the past couple of weeks. Her folks came over to visit (they live in another country) and brought with them some gifts and a small bag of apples. I was in the backyard while Lisa was with her folks. in about 30 minutes I hear my daughter "Alex" (16) shouting "dad dad!!" from the kitchen. I head over to the kitchen and see Alex and Lisa fighting. I ask Lisa why she was yelling at Alex and she tells me that Alex took all the apples my inlaws brought from home and shared them with her friends upstairs. I tell her Alex probably didn't know but she tells me that she explicitly told Alex not to touch them. I ask Alex if that was true and she tells me yes but that she and her friends couldn't find anything else edible. Lisa goes over to the fridge and opens it saying the fridge was literally full of snacks and Alex did this just to spite her and basically "steal" from her. I tell Lisa to calm down and that I'd go get her some from the grocery store, Lisa replies that those apples are special because they're from her home country and she needed them for her recovery. She goes on to tell me Alex intended to do this and so something needs to happen, a punishment should he issued. I tell Alex to go upstairs and Lisa and I start arguing. I refuse to punish Alex because even if what she did was intentional she's a kid and it's typical behavior. Lisa starts ranting about how this scenario keeps happening and I never take a stand but I reply that she's just obssessed with having my daughter punished for some reason. She stops arguing now and stares at me. She then walks out and goes to stay with her folks until they'd left. Later she avoids me and refuses to speak to me. I found this whole thing quite ridiculous because Alex is just a kid and so she acts without thinking sometimes but Lisa tends to get oversensitive and think everyone is out to get her or something. Especially the random ones who are sort of relate to you but you know, deep down, you dont really know each other all the well. This incident actually occured quite a long time ago (over ten years ago) and I have almost forgotten about it until someone reminded me about it last weekend. Way back over ten years ago. I just got a promotion to a new role and I bought some new tools, including a new apple macbook, for work. I was living in London at the time and was a in a small flat/apartment which mean space was a premium. So I decided that I should get rid of some stuff in the house. One of those was a PC that was a few years old at the time. Back then, my grandma used to call me up every few days just to chat about stuff. And I mentioned to her about the promotion and the new stuff I bought and the old stuff I am giving away. And, being an old lady whose hobby was basically phone call to the family, she passed this news on to a few relatives. One of my aunt heard the news and told her younger kid. Few days later, my aunt and her kid called me up and said they will take my computer. Great! Come over to my place and collect them. They drove over the next day, and then turned into a long arguement with me once they arrived. For some reason, (probably due to the fact my grandma doesn't really know about computers and stuff, or my aunt misheard it, or whatever) they thought they were picking up my brand new macbook instead of the few years old desktop. My aunt, being an adult, was at least undertood it must be a miscommunication. My little cousin though, was throwing a huge tantrum over it, in my house. He kept going on about how crap the spec of the machine is, and how it would be useless to him. And bear in mind, he wasn't like a 8 years old at the time. He was 13 years old. Still a kid, I know, but should be at an age of which he should understand that his distance cousin (me) is not gonna randomly give him a brand new computer just for homework. My aunt was trying to just get the computer out of my place and I just wanted to get them and the computer out of my house and my girlfriend just wanted all the crying (yep. 13 years old boy crying was quite a scene) noises to stop so she could focus at her work. At the end, they just left, emptied handed of course since the kid doesn't want the old PC and I wasn't ready to give him my new one. I thought that was that. But then, later that night, my uncle (my cousin's entitled dad) called me up and demanded an explaination of why I back out on a deal (!!!!!!!) and that was not the way to treat the family etc etc. The phone call ended up with me hanging up on him. Which lead to a lecture from my grandma the next day over the phone and took me an hour to explained what happened. And that lead to a lecture from her to my uncle which lead to more phone calls and agrument. My uncle complained that now his son has no computer to use and I told him he can still pick up my computer which is still sitting in my house at the time. I didn't get an answer until two days later and he sent me a list of things he wants me to upgrade, to the computer that I am planning to give away, with my own money! Obviously I just ignore them at the time. And good job my family always has a lot of drama (probably stirred up by my very bored grandma, come to think of it) so very soon everyone was on to the new storyline to follow. And what happened to the computer? I ended up giving it to a neighbour in the same floor of whom I have talked to a few times. They were in a less fortunate position than us, and their two teenage children at the time used to use the computers at school and library for their homework. Once my girlfriend found out about that, it was a natural place to send my computer to. At first they refused it, because they couldn't give me money for it. But we were not looking to take any money anyway because a) it didn't worth all that much anyway and b) it was much much easier to bring the damn thing just across a few doors than anywhere else. They were our neighbour for a few more years before I moved away from the block. I didn't even think of much of what happened it anymore, until recently when I was contacted by the older one of the two children. Apparently he has just graduated from university and just started a job. We talked about a few things and he thanked me again for giving him the computer all those years ago. Apparently it's still being used by their parents at their home. It's funny how things can turn out some times. A little context, so i am an apple vintage collector, than means i collect vintage apple products like old iPods,iPads and iPhones, and when I’m traveling its a pain to get them with me, and the reason i do that is because i don’t want their batteries to go bad from not charging them, also as every collector i dont trust anyone with my collectibles. So while i was traveling I didn’t get all of my collection but i got the best ones, i got 2 iPads 1 iPod touch 1 iPad nano 2 iPhones with me, so they’re all collectibles but some of them are very rare, anyway so while i was going threw he security check up i got my devices out for them to check them and i noticed a little boy behind me (maybe 6) and he stared at me like he wanted to kill me and steal everything i had, so he talked to me and thats how the conversation went: EK: Why do you have all of these iPads ! Me: Do you know what a collector means? EK: Yes! Me: Well i collect old technology EK: Nice! But you dont look like you need all of them they’re too much! Me: its not about needed or not I’m a collector that’s what i do,,,(started to know he didn’t know what a collector meant) EK: Ok give me some i want to be a collector Me: No...? EK: Sharing is caring now give meee!!! Me: No! So at this time they checked all my devices for nothing threw x-ray and started to put them in my bad and while i was putting them i saw the kid waiting for me to give him one but I didn’t, i packed up and left to get some food until my flight arrives, so while i was eating i saw him again with the meanest looking Karen i have ever seen in my life and she looked pissed! Like damn ! Anyway i was eating minding my own business and she came to me and started talking, Thats how the conversation went: EM: So my Son told me you have like 3 iPads and 2 iPhones ? Me: (really doesnt want to say but) yes i do... EM: OK now give him one of each so its fair Me: Excuse me? EM: Am i speaking Chinese ? Give it to him. I remember when I was a kid, whining to my parents "I'm huuuungry." "No, you're bored. Go find something to do." "But I'm actually huuuungry." (Narrator: she was not, indeed, actually hungry.) Story time: This happened last month. I've gotten six phone calls in the last 24 hours from a number listed to an Apple store in CA. I pick up and get a prerecorded message stating my 'icloud account' is being hacked, and I should press 1 for tech support. I'm skeptical, especially as I don't own any Apple products, and I don't have any icloud, itunes or ianything accounts. Obviously a scam. The first time I hung up. The second time I asked the 'tech' what they needed, and played a little dumb as they tired to direct me to a tech site that would let them take control of my computer. They hung up on me. The third time they called I was at work, and went to the website they directed me to and kept repeating the website code incorrectly to them, repeating directions wrong, and just generally being confused. They dude is screaming at me to repeat exactly what he says, and finally tells me I'm not allowed to ask questions even when I try to clarify which account is hacked or what is going on. He tells me I'm too retarded to do this, and hangs up on me. The fourth time I get a call from them I tell the guy its the fourth time he's called, and ask if he'd proud of what he's doing. I asked if his mother was ashamed of him stealing from people. He hung up. The fifth time I go ahead and let him log into a computer system...I've set up a spare laptop with a virtual machine that I've loaded with every virus, toolbar, pop up ad, and other crap I can find. If it was a horse we would shoot it. It wasn't logged into an admin account, so he trashed a few files and rage quit on me. Sixth time: I let the 'tech' (a different guy each time, I can hear others in the background) log into my virtual machine and encrypt some crap. He demands $200.00 to unlock it. I cry, sob, beg, and finally open up my wallet and get my credit card. I misspeak and mix up my numbers enough that he gets pissed and taunts me. I finally suggest I take a picture and email the pic to him so he can read it. I get an email he types on the screen, and I send from a throwaway account the file 'credit.card.jpg.zip' Apparently when he clicked on the file he got infected with some cryptovirus. The buddy who gave me the file told me it was a form of 'Petya', but I've never actually opened it to find out. Apparently he encrypted and locked his computer system. How did that happen? My personal wondering is if his computer was on a networked environment or if they were isolated from each other. All I know is I didn't get any more phone calls after that. Edit: Holy crap, I've got a number of people sending me PMs telling me I'm full of crap particularly on the laptop loaded with viruses and toolbars. I homeschool and this month my kids 9 and 11 year old have been building computers from parts, learning how to load the OS, and troubleshoot basic problems. Last month they were given computers with toolbars and redirect extensions installed so they could disable and reverse them. I taught Jr. High before this...the kids lived online, but didn't know how a computer worked. I don't want my kids being that ignorant...so they get to be hands on and break it themselves.
