My kitchen appliances and washer/dryer were all purchased together back in 2015 (before I moved in). I’ve had various issues with all of them except the stove so far. It’s expensive to have technicians come out and replace parts. I’m at the point now where I’m wondering if I should just replace everything. Fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. My dishwasher is the latest one to give me troubles. All right now are LG brand. I keep reading not to buy from a big box store. How do I find reputable non-big box stores? In my google searches of local stores there seems to be a lot of cheap stuff like ZLINE, which is repeatedly not recommended here. Also, is Ferguson considered big box? It is time for a new fridge. I realize that this isn't literally a 'for life' purchase, but I highly value appliances that don't need service calls more than once or twice a decade and that can be repaired affordably without replacing a $600 motherboard. (You aren't getting my 1990's Kenmore washing machine away from me!) We want an icemaker, but we are willing to forgo the in-door dispenser to limit the moving parts that might cause problems. Bonus points for having a water filter that is not locked to name-brand replacements. Any other tips? Brands to choose or avoid? (I already have a prejudice against phone brands for major appliances. Looking at you, Samsung!) I am generally a fan of Costco. They now carry Midea brand fridges, but I don't know much about them. I am particularly interested in your thoughts there. I have included a screenshot of one option, but just as a starting point. UPDATE for anyone looking back at this in the future: I started from this guy's summary of brands and models based on surveys of both customers and repair techs. I settled on the counter-depth version of the LG LRFLS3206S french door fridge. The consensus seems to be that LG is very good as long as you get a rotary compressor and not a linear one, which are bad enough to have inspired multiple lawsuits. It has an ice maker but not dispenser, and a filtered water dispensed inside. (I personally would not have chosen that feature, and might have omitted the ice maker as well, but my husband is worried that he would take up drinking sodas again if cold filtered water wasn't extremely convenient, and the health costs associated with that habit are too great to risk.) The review also recommends a very similar Maytag MRFF4236RZ that was $100 more and too deep for our space, and a GE GNE27JYMFS that was cheaper but requires RFID chipped water filters, which I despise on principle. Does anyone actually unplug their TOASTER between uses? Edit to answer common questions: We pay the utilities separately from our rent! Our landlord doesn't handle the electric bill in any way, shape, or form. They gave us 24 hours' notice before the inspection, which is standard in the US. From my understanding of the lease, I don't think we are allowed to decline inspections. :( Our lease does not state anything about unplugging appliances when they are not in use. Our landlord uses a company to manage everything. So we get hit with a double whammy of our landlord's feelings and the company's rules. Thank you all for your input and recommendations! I have learned SO much. No one believes me, but electronics buzz like old tv’s when turned on, only at a higher pitch. I had a terrible experience with ordering appliances from Costco. I ordered a set of LG appliances — fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and range. After 4 delivery attempts I still dont have my fridge and I am not sure what to do. I have spoken to numerous agents and even escalated to corporate. More Details: Delivery attempt 1: Two people delivered all appliances, but they found damage on the fridge when they unboxed. They were fully prepared to move the fridge up the stairs and remove the old one. I refused delivery based on their recommendation. Costco called me and put in a replacement order for the same fridge. We’d already cleared out our old fridge, which meant a lot of frozen food had to be discarded. Delivery attempt 2: When the replacement fridge was scheduled, the delivery team showed up but refused to carry it up my two flights of stairs, saying it was “too much effort” and that two people wouldn’t be enough. I had to reschedule for a four-person team (which never happened). Again, we lost more food and wasted time clearing out the fridge. Delivery attempt 3: This one is on me as I missed the delivery team's call. But I called them back within 7 minutes. They ignored my call and moved on to the next stop. So I had to reschedule again. Delivery attempt 4: The delivery guy didn't even enter my house. Just peeked at the stairs and immediately refused delivery. He told me he was calling his supervisor and drove away with the truck after 5 mins without any explanation. I love Costco, but I am appalled with this experience and their incompetence. What are the things this sub agrees on? I’m doing a full kitchen reno (midcentury ranch with an awful, grimy, 90s kitchen). Also need new washer and dryer. Keeping my eye on Black Friday deals (here in Canada), but after scrolling this sub I realize I know nothing. I though ice and water in a fridge were the height of luxury, but it looks like there are some things you all mostly agree on: avoiding Samsung, touch screens and built in ice makers in fridges for example. Looking for your consensus tips I should keep in mind! Top brands / models for each type of appliance, things to look for and avoid. I’m not rich by any means but will spend a bit of money for appliances that are reliable and super functional. Panel ready is an option since we haven’t done cabinetry yet.
