Ginger root extract and artichoke leaf extract - dosage and brand + LE Bloat Relief
Hello everyone! I'm EU‑based. I can’t take ginger root extract or artichoke leaf extract products usually mentioned here (Digestion Pro, etc.), either because they contain other ingredients I can’t tolerate (like rice flour) or because they’re too expensive. After *extensive* research into what’s actually available to me, I’m down to two options: Life Extension Bloat Relief: It contains the Prodigest blend, but also turmeric, fennel, and several other ingredients. I’d prefer something with only ginger + artichoke so I can clearly tell whether those two extracts help. Buying ginger root extract and artichoke leaf extract separately: I’m leaning toward this, but I’m unsure how to match the Prodigest study dosage when using standalone supplements. Also, there are *so many* brands that I’m not sure which ones are reliable. My questions: Has anyone here tried Bloat Relief specifically for SIBO? Most reviews online are about general bloating, which isn’t helpful for me. If you take artichoke leaf extract, which brand do you use and what daily dosage works for you? Same question for ginger root extract - brand and dosage? Any experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) submitted by /u/kinsellaskye to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Scraped 7 million comments from this sub and 15 others into a database, then ran queries on it, and found something no doctor ever told me in years of treatment.
Quick backstory. I'm a refractory SIBO case. 26M, tortuous colon, high E. coli and Proteobacteria on stool testing, plus POIS (post-orgasmic illness syndrome, weird neuro-immune reaction after sex) and these "wired but tired" neuro crashes nobody can explain. Years of rifaximin, allicin, berberine, neem, every protocol you've heard of. Always came back. Nighttime was the worst. Couldn't sleep through the night for years because of the gas pressure and pain. Got desperate enough to do something kind of insane. I scraped about 7 million comments and 670k posts from this sub plus 15 related ones (r/MCAS, r/dysautonomia, r/covidlonghaulers, r/Microbiome, r/ibs, r/FODMAPS, r/HistamineIntolerance, r/LongCovid and others) into a searchable database. Then built an AI layer on top so I could run actual queries against it. Things like "show me everyone who tried X long term and what their outcome was," "what did the responders to Y have in common," "what does the failure mode of Z look like." Turned thousands of people's lived experience into something I could analyze instead of doomscrolling one anecdote at a time. The pattern that fell out of it was so consistent it pissed me off that no GI, naturopath, or functional medicine doctor I've seen in years ever framed it this way. The bacteria aren't actually the problem. The motility is. The MMC (migrating motor complex) is your small intestine's cleaning wave that fires every 90-120 minutes when you're fasted and sweeps bacteria out the door. When it's broken, anything you kill grows back. You're mopping the floor with the faucet still on. The people in the data who got durable results weren't the ones with the most aggressive antimicrobial protocols. They were the ones who fixed motility first, then killed, then maintained. Been seeing 4-5 posts this week from people on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th round of rifaximin watching it relapse again. That's exactly what the data predicts if you don't fix motility. So I flipped the order. Went hard on motility first: Motility Activator by Integrative Therapeutics, 3 caps at bedtime. It's a concentrated ginger + artichoke extract. There's a 2015 clinical trial that tested this exact combination for motility in IBS patients and it actually worked, which is more than you can say for most supplements. About $25 for a bottle on Amazon. LDN (low-dose naltrexone) 3mg at night. I was already on it for the neuro/autoimmune side but it's also a legit prokinetic. Prescription, but cheap and very low side effect profile. Actually fasting between meals. 4+ hours minimum, no snacking, nothing within 3 hours of bed. This is the part everyone skips and then wonders why nothing works. Results so far: Day 1. Huge reduction in nighttime gas pressure. Slept through. Day 2. Ate pizza at a friend's thing, fully expected to pay for it, didn't. Day 3. Zero gas, zero pain, woke up actually rested for the first time I can remember. Day 4. Bit of gas pain when I rolled onto my back but still way reduced from baseline. These are the first pain-free nights I've had in literal years. I know it's only 4 days. I know it could fall apart. But the trajectory matches exactly what the long-term responders in my dataset described in their early weeks, so I'm cautiously optimistic. If you're in the rifaximin loop, before you do another round, seriously ask yourself: Are you actually fasting between meals? Constant snacking destroys the MMC. No prokinetic in the world will work if you're eating every 2 hours. Are you on a prokinetic? If not, you're going to relapse. Period. If gentle stuff like ginger/artichoke doesn't move the needle, prucalopride (Motegrity) is the prescription option that long-term users on this sub describe as a game changer. It's a serotonin receptor drug that directly stimulates the cleaning waves. On the database. If there's interest I'll clean it up and make it publicly available so anyone can query it the way I have been. Drop a comment and let me know. Will report back at Day 14. Fingers crossed it holds. submitted by /u/Toczix to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Artichoke extract suddenly causing diarrhea?
I was diagnosed with hydrogen & methane dominant SIBO in February. I did a round of Xifaxan but didn't see any results. I started taking ginger & artichoke extract in early April to help with my mmc, hoping that would help my SIBO. The extracts were taken ~1 hour prior to eating breakfast and dinner. I had no issues for the first ~month. ~2 weeks ago, I started to get diarrhea immediately after eating & figured out is is the artichoke extract doing it. I can still take the ginger no problem. I've tried extending the time between the artichoke & my meal to see if it makes a difference - it does help, but the artichoke extract does make my stomach very acidic & hurts if I let is sit too long. I've also tried lowering the dosage which helps but it still seems to happen. Has anyone else had any issues taking artichoke? submitted by /u/Salty-Eggplant7559 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Artichoke extract + ginger extract -> Worse before it gets better?
Started a supplement a week ago that contains a substance called 'Prodigest' which is a combination of aritchoke + ginger extract. I take one capsule just before I go to bed and one more in the morning 30-60 min before breakfast. Both on empty stomach. Since then I also have more bloating, gas and discomfort in my abdomen. Could this be a case of 'worse before it gets better'? Anyone else had a similar experience? submitted by /u/Schwloeb to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Is the combination of ginger extract and artichoke extract safe for the body?
I’ve seen in SIBO communities that a combination of ginger extract and artichoke extract can help improve gut motility, so I tried taking a capsule for the first time last night after a meal. But I noticed a cool, slightly burning/tingling sensation in my stomach (kind of like a minty feeling). Does this combination tend to irritate the stomach? Where do you buy artichoke extract and ginger root?
I see a lot of people have tried this combo. Is there a consensus for the best source to buy from? Also, any consensus on dosing guidelines? I’ve seen a lot of different numbers, and it gets confusing when the concentration of active ingredient is different across products. I suspect that my IMO is partially in my small intestine so I want to give artichoke extract a try. Let me know if anyone with IMO has had any success with this. submitted by /u/Different-Nature-963 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Product request: high cynarin & chlorogenic acid % artichoke extract
When it comes to supplements that may be hepatoprotective, there's seemingly quite few well researched ones. But alongside milk thistle, artichoke is one of the more researched hepatoprotective compounds. It would be great if nootropicsdepot sells this to increase the range of hepatoprotective supplements in their store. One issue that all other competitors have at the moment is that the bioactives in artichoke extract varies greatly, this makes it difficult to see consistent results. From what I gather cynarin seems to be the primary bioactive for liver benefits in artichoke extract studies, so it would be great if you guys can standardise this to an efficacious amount. Alongside cynarin, chlorogenic acid is also present in artichoke extract and this has strong preclinical evidence for benefits in its isolated form, albeit limited research in humans in isolation but hepatoprotection is seen in coffee in humans which happens to be a great source of chlorogenic acid. So I think it would be great if nootropics depot standardises this too in their supplement. Theres many other compounds and flavanoids too in artichoke extract which may have benefits like luteolin but research is rather lacking on them. So TLDR it would be absolutely amazing if ND makes a high chlorogenic acid & cynarin artichoke extract for hepatoprotective benefits. submitted by /u/SonderMouse to r/NootropicsDepot [link] [comments]

Red spots and burning sensation on skin after starting ginger and artichoke extract? 🫚
Hi all, I’ve been diagnosed with SIBO, leaky gut, IBS, severe chronic gastritis … endometriosis.. adenomyiosis.. you name it - I have it. I’ve tried it all for years. All kinds of supplements. All kinds of diets - for months. Nothing has worked. I’ve watched a video the other day where a guy talks abt ginger and artichoke extract to get the MMC going. I haven’t tried those yet so I went ahead and ordered the supplements. So far - so good. Less hunger, WAY less bloating for the first time in YEARS. However, I have started getting red spots and burning sensations on my face - never had any issues ever skin wise (thank god!). Anybody else that has experienced the same? submitted by /u/bridalnghmr to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Artichoke Extract Another Scam
Well I'm day 3 into taking 1200mg artichoke extract before my first meal of the day and much like all of the other otc "prokinetics," it appears to do absolutely nothing. So far I've tried 5-htp, artichoke extract, ginger chews, peppermint oil and iberogast. The only thing that has ever got me moving somewhat better has been cigarettes/zyns and coffee. At this point I'm convinced that these over the counter solutions to motility are being pushed by supplement salespeople or some shit. Some background, I'm on creon and famotidine and tolerating meals well but having trouble passing stool as well as noticing that I'm "backing up," even with the creon doing its job. Not sure what to do from here other than slam fiber which has historically gone badly for me. Any thoughts would be appreciated. submitted by /u/retard_trader to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Dosing help: How much of this specific Artichoke Extract for motility?
I’ve bought a standalone Artichoke Extract to help stimulate my MMC (Migrating Motor Complex), but I'm unsure about the effective dosage since brands vary so much in potency. My supplement label reads: Serving Size: 2 Capsules Amount: 600mg Artichoke Leaf Extract (GPH) Standardization: 5% (30 mg) caffeoylquinic acids and derivatives. My questions: Is 600mg (30mg active acids) a sufficient dose? Is this strength enough to trigger the MMC, or do I need to increase it? Should I take the full dose all at once, or split it up? Multiple times a day or just once? Is it strictly best taken on an empty stomach right before bed, or do some of you take it first thing in the morning? I want to find the sweet spot to get things moving without causing issues. Thanks. submitted by /u/xKa1z3r to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

What is the ideal time to take ginger root and artichoke extract? (Personal use as a prokinetic agent to help my motility return to normal over time)
I'd like to know who among you consumes ginger root capsules and artichoke? What experiences have you had? Did it help you? Also, regarding timing! Many people take it before meals, but that doesn't make much sense since MMC works best when taken overnight or on an empty stomach! I'm thinking of taking it on an empty stomach just once a day and seeing how it goes. What do you think? submitted by /u/Annual_Exercise9800 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Artichoke extract
Hey, anybody took artichoke, how do u feel guys? I started to take artichoke extract, now foods, 3 times per day WITH food. First of all, i felt positive effects - ideal bowel movements, 2-3 times per day, ideal color and consistency, cleared acne fully. But... i also started to notice growing side effects. I lost appetite almost completely, increased levels of stress, increased anxiety, horrible nightmares like EVERY night, wake up 4 am like classic case of increased cortisol, but i really feel that cortisol increased, muscle tension, white coated tongue, less libido, well generally thats all symptoms of stress. sure, i cant keep taking it because of this side effects, so since this day i will stop. anybody have theory why such a thing happened? or maybe someone had that side effects? submitted by /u/Traditional_Jury8524 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Artichoke Extract Die Off
Yesterday I started a new artichoke extract to try to get my frozen guts moving, and, to my surprise, today I have die off symptoms. Brain fog and fatigue. My theory is the artichoke stimulated bile production, which is itself an antimicrobial. Anybody had a similar experience? Does my theory make sense? submitted by /u/MonthMammoth4133 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]

Loads of improvement from artichoke extract
I took artichoke extract and felt immediately much better. I felt my intestines moving again after just 2 hours. Last week I celebrated, I went to the zoo, went sporting on the beach, went drinking and walked for 12 hours Saturday. while the week before I could barely get groceries. I went a little overboard and feel tired now, but in a different way than before. I am not going to respond to the comments here. I did exactly what someone told me in a video. The video is: How I Cured My SIBO "IBS" (+Gastritis, Duodenitis, NAFLD, & POTS) *with/ Brain Fog* (Go to the 01:30:00 mark) Best of luck! submitted by /u/WashTop6349 to r/covidlonghaulers [link] [comments]

Whoa - this Artichoke extract is no joke!
I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I am NOT a good pooper and have CONSTANT abdominal cramps. I'm pretty sure I have Methane SIBO (have a Drs appt coming up in 6 days to get started with a GI). I've been simply miserable - so I went ahead and ordered a few supplements to help keep things moving. I often use Smooth Move tea by Traditional Medicinals (and I still continue to use that) - but I also purchased Carlyle Artichoke 8000mg from Amazon. Holy moley! I'm feeling so much better after 3 days and things are MOVING ALONG. Let's just say it that way :-) When things move - I don't have NEAR the cramping, so I'm just hoping/praying that this continues. I will keep updating - but this is a big change and seems to be helping a lot!!! Anyone else used Artichoke extract with success? Artichoke itself is a HIGH FODMAP food (due to inulin which is a fructan/oligosaccharide). However, the extract of artichoke contains a chemical called " cynarin," which is a nudge for the liver to make more bile. I'm still learning more but I will share what I learn. Cynarin is to artichoke as allicin is to garlic (to my understanding). Garlic also contains fructans - but the Allicin in garlic extract is a powerful antibiotic (and allicin is not considered a FODMAP). Share with me your Artichoke extract success and/or knowledge! #methanesibo #constipation #artichokeextract #poopinglikeachamp submitted by /u/Equivalent-Pickle860 to r/SIBO [link] [comments]
