Why do people hate Artificial Intelligence so much?
People really hate AI so much and it baffles me. I understand wanting to limit it, but the derangement they have for anything generated by Artificial Intelligence is mindblowing to me. How is it any different than using a cell phone or any other modern technology? It is simply another tool for people to use to make things easier. People just pick and choose. Reminds me of when hip-hop artist Future first came on the scene and people were mad he used Auto-Tune. I always just thought to myself, why do you hate Auto-Tune, but don't care about Reverb or any other tools that people use to enhance their music and make it sound better. The only truth in artificial intelligence is the word "artificial"
The hype around AI from people who don’t know the difference between conscious and conscience is unreal. And I’m not talking about random folks on Reddit turning into doomsday preppers because they heard AGI is coming after watching a demo of OpenClaw. I’m talking about people working on the so called frontier. Places like Anthropic. Here’s the part everyone seems to forget. AI is only as smart as a calculator. A calculator can solve incredibly complex equations. It can manipulate numbers faster than any human alive. But it has no idea what a number is, what it represents, or why anyone would care. LLMs do the same thing, just with words. For us, words mean something. They point to things in the physical world or to lived experience. When I say “flower,” your brain doesn’t just register a token. It generates an image, maybe a smell, maybe a memory. And that image is different for each person, shaped by their own experience. Words, for humans, are representations of reality. They are how we understand the world. For an LLM, words are just part of a probabilistic game. One token predicts the next. No meaning. No understanding. No inner picture of anything at all. That’s not intelligence in the human sense. It’s pattern matching at scale. Very impressive. Very useful. Still artificial. submitted by /u/forevergeeks to r/ArtificialInteligence [link] [comments]

I’m Not Going To Stop Using Artificial Intelligence Because You Pretend To Care About The Environment
I am tired of these virtue signaling hypocritical guilt tripping posts, artificial intelligence impacts the environment this and water consumption that, everything human beings do will always have an environmental impact and that includes making these repetitive posts and comments, besides if you have a problem with someone who uses artificial intelligence on a regular basis, perhaps think for a minute about the source of artificial intelligence, because it came right from human beings and you’re one of them. I’m not going to feel guilt for doing something that has been happening for hundreds if not thousands of years, like if you actually did give a damn about the environment you wouldn’t have a phone, computer, car or air conditioning since a lot of that has an environmental impact regardless of where it comes from, in fact if you hold these values at all then why aren’t you living with the Amish People who do not have these qualities of life, sounds like a double standard. I’ll in all likelihood receive a lot of downvotes from these anti artificial intelligence users who will end up spamming my inbox with comments about me being ignorant or selfish for something that has been occurring for a while, but if anything it will prove my point that you caring about the environment is just a lie you’re telling yourself so you’re able to sleep at night, give up everything that brings comfort to your livelihood and then discuss your concerns about environmental impact. submitted by /u/-Brandonline- to r/CharacterAI [link] [comments]

I am terrified by my future career because of artificial intelligence
Hello, I am a 16 year old boy living in Italy. I’m currently in high school, studying a scientific major (which includes subjects like algebra, chemistry, and computer science), and in a couple of years, I’ll have to decide what to study at university for my future, but the mere thought of that genuinely horrifies me due to an existential doubt: will AI ever replace my job? Imagine paying all the expenses for university, do nothing but study and while you’re still studying, AI is already replacing your future job, taking over the industry you were supposed to work in. AI is already able to code, analyze economic data, work as your accountant, and even act as a scientific researcher. It explores self-improving mechanisms and one day will be better than anyone living on planet Earth. What am I supposed to do then? I wanted to pursue a coding career, specializing in software engineering, optimization, performance, and similar fields. Plan B would have been to pursue an economy-driven career, studying marketing, etc. I am pretty sure AI is already great at those, let alone what it will be capable of in a few years. What should I do? Am I overestimating the situation? submitted by /u/airlessdekubooh to r/OpenAI [link] [comments]
