RE:Baby bottles and steriliser?
I'm guessing I cant reuse the baby bottles I have which have been sitting in the shed for 11 years. It's a Philips advent kit, can steriliser and bottle warmer still be reusable after a cleanup or should I be looking to replace the lot? Also I see microwave sterilisers are a thing now but not sure of the safety issues with microwaving plastics so some input on this would be great.

Is a bottle warmer worth it if I only want to use it for defrosting breast milk bags fast? [ON]
I don’t want my baby to get use to warm milk, but I do plan on freezing my breast milk bags. I’m wondering if a bottle warmer is worth it, just to defrost a frozen milk bag. I know I can move the milk bag from the freezer to the fridge or run them under warm water but if I need one right away/ quickly, would a bottle warmer be a good option? submitted by /u/Serious_Ad_9686 to r/BabyBumpsCanada [link] [comments]

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer?
Lately it feels like every parenting forum and influencer is pushing bottle warmers. I’ve always been a bit skeptical about these “must-have” baby items since a lot of them seem designed to solve problems that barely exist. To me, it’s basically just a fancier heater that takes up counter space. I’m not trying to buy more plastic stuff that’s only gonna get used for a few months. Does it actually do anything useful, or is it just another way for companies to get tired parents to spend money? submitted by /u/Late-Hat-5853 to r/newborns [link] [comments]

Life hack for the congested pregnant ladies- get your bottle warmer and sinus rinses out!
Sorry for the very blurry pic. Don’t know what happened there. I’m 26w 3 days and the pregnancy congestion has hit me HARD this past week. I use sinus rinses often but have never had a good heating system for the water. A few days ago I realized I had a bottle warmer sitting around that my SIL gave to me. I moved it into my bathroom along with a gallon of distilled water and now have perfect temp sinus rinses with no hassle. This has been life changing for me and makes the congestion so much more bearable. I set the warmer to 5oz and the water is the perfect temperature everytime. Also a huge bonus that I can get dressed for work, shower, do chores, etc while it’s heating and come back to warm water when I’m ready. P.S. because I can already feel someone coming to the comments to say “this isn’t sanitary for your baby bottles”. My baby isn’t coming for another 3 months and I’m just trying to survive pregnancy until then. I will obviously clean the bottle warmer before using it for my baby. submitted by /u/ArmyPsychological63 to r/BabyBumps [link] [comments]

AITA for taking my baby from my parents?
I (26f) have a 4 month old baby: he was born prematurely and had a lot of feeding issues, so I exclusively pump breastmilk for him and we bottle feed him. This is great because anyone can feed him but inconvenient for me since I pump 6x a day even in the middle of the night. Once my baby was eating well from the bottle and sleeping 3+ hours at a time, my dad invited us to come stay with him and my mom every so often to catch up on some uninterrupted sleep. We happily obliged and since then, Thursday nights are spent at their home. My dad has historically done AMAZING with my nieces and nephews, so I wholeheartedly trusted him with my baby overnight and his house already had the facilities to keep a baby (safe sleep space, bottle warmer, changing table etc). My mom on the other hand has historically been a bit neglectful to my nieces and nephews so we have kind of universally agreed that my mom is not to watch any of our kids alone. I did give her the benefit of the doubt and trusted her to feed the baby and change him. Nothing more. Well, 3 weeks ago I come downstairs from a shower and my mom is feeding him a bottle that looked suspicious. I asked her if it was old and she said no. The bottle was hot to the touch. I took a pic of it and showed my sister, who said that it was very clearly a bottle of microwaved breastmilk. I got upset but kindly explained to my mom why you shouldn’t microwave breastmilk, which is because it can cause fat separation, nutrient loss and burn the baby’s mouth severely. She said she understood and we kinda forgot about it. A week later, I go to wash baby dishes and next to where she normally sits I find another microwaved bottle. I told her more firmly that if I saw it again, I would take the baby and leave. Lo and behold, Friday morning I hobble into the kitchen to get pump supplies and when I noticed my son wasn’t in the crib or with my dad, I got nervous. I went to my mom and found yet ANOTHER microwaved bottle. I thought I was crazy, so I took it upstairs to my husband who agreed it was nuked and started packing. We went downstairs together and I explained to my parents that we were leaving. My mother vehemently denied microwaving the milk and my dad said he had prepared that bottle himself. I KNEW someone was lying because my eyes don’t lie. I took the baby from my mom and she went in one of her narcissistic rants about how “I guess I’m just a piece of shit.” So I told my dad it has nothing to do with him and I love him and we left. My dad is extremely upset because he LOVES this baby. It’s his first biological grandchild and they already have a very special bond. But I had to stick to my word. My mom later admitted to my dad she did indeed reheat the milk in the microwave and she has since refused to speak to me or take accountability and apologize. But she can call my sister crashing out and saying I’m so mean and robbing her of her grandson… sigh. Anyways, AITA here? ETA: my father heated the bottle, my baby did not finish it, and my mother put it in the microwave for her to feed him the rest. My dad was completely unaware that she did that so he is absolutely not the problem here. I’ve always questioned why he stays with my mom and I think it’s because they’ve just been together so long he doesn’t know being alone would be better for him. He has never actually defended my mom and they don’t even sleep on the same floor of the house or sit in the same room together. It baffles me but I will not be bringing baby around if my mom is around, even if it hurts his feelings. He can find a way to meet us or hitch a ride down this way, ALONE, if he wants baby time. ETA (2): my sister who my mom called didn’t defend her. All 3 of my siblings and myself have our feelings about my mom, and we have all made the same mistakes with her and our kids. At the end of the day, even though she is a narcissist and a screw up, she is still our mom and we all want her to have a relationship with her grandchildren, but now for all of us except the one week old baby my other sister has, it happens at arm’s length. It is partly my fault for thinking maybe the sixth grandchild would change something, but you know what they say about hindsight. submitted by /u/Cute_Objective_7551 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

My Grownsy bottle warmer heats unevenly. Any other brands worth checking out?
I’ve been using a Grownsy bottle warmer that a friend gave me, and I honestly don’t know if it’s just old or what, but the heating has been super inconsistent. The top gets warm while the bottom is still cold. When it’s 2am and my baby is crying for a bottle, this stuff is extra frustrating. Sometimes I even wonder if I’m the only one dealing with this. I know it’s supposed to be safer than using a microwave, but in real life I’m basically guessing the timing half the time, which doesn’t feel great at all. What I’m looking for is a bottle warmer that actually heats evenly and fast, ideally something I can use at night without pulling out a thermometer every single time. If you’ve found a bottle warmer that heats evenly with no hot spots and is just easy to use overall, I’d really love to hear your recommendations. submitted by /u/addiechavez to r/Buyingforbaby [link] [comments]

Thoughts on bottle warmers
Is this necessary? Im tempted to buy one. How do people warm up bottles without one? Do they need to be warm? I’ve had friends mention they just have their baby drink cold breast milk. Am I the only one who doesn't trust "smart" bottle warmers? 🌡️
I’ve gone through multiple baby warmers (including the "fancy" ones), and I’ve realized they are all basically just dumb timers. They don't measure the internal temperature of the milk. They just heat for a set time regardless of variables: Starting Temp: A bottle from the fridge needs way more heat than one from the counter, but the machine treats them the same. Re-warming: If I hit "warm" on a bottle that’s already lukewarm, it basically boils the milk because the machine assumes it started cold. Material: Glass vs. plastic heats totally differently. Even machines with those settings - it's still just a set timer. I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette with my baby's milk temperature. How are you guys ensuring it's actually 98°F/37°C? Do you trust the machine, use a separate thermometer, or just rely on the wrist test? submitted by /u/Black-Smoke-Feline to r/daddit [link] [comments]

Do you ever use a portable bottle warmer when going out?
I’m not really the stay-at-home type. On weekends, we’re usually driving around, visiting family, or taking short trips. The hardest part about being out isn’t the travel itself, it’s when the baby gets hungry and the milk isn’t at the right temperature yet. I’ve tried using a thermos, but in winter it’s tricky. The water ends up either too hot or not hot enough, and you’re constantly checking the temp while the baby is crying. Has anyone found a good portable solution for warming bottles on the go? How do you handle it when you’re out and about? submitted by /u/Far-Sweet-3545 to r/newborns [link] [comments]

Bottle warmers are kind of a scam. Just get a temp-control kettle.
Honestly, I wish I realized this with my first kid. We bought a dedicated bottle warmer and standing there for 5 minutes waiting for it to heat up while the baby is screaming at 3 AM is pure torture. We eventually switched to a smart kettle with a 'Hold Temp' feature (set to 104°F/40°C), and it’s been a game changer. The water is just... ready. Instantly. You pour, mix, and feed. Zero waiting. Plus, now that we are past the formula stage, I actually have a great kettle for my coffee instead of a plastic gadget collecting dust in the garage. Just wanted to save some new parents $50 and some counter space. Skip the warmer. submitted by /u/CoffeeTeaJournal to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

Overbearing MIL insists on naming our child
Basically what the title says. My MIL has said to us multiple times now that she has picked out a name for our son. (her first grandchild and due in March) When she first said this to me I told her we have already chosen a name and she responded that “her’s comes first” I just awkwardly laughed because I was so confused and didn’t know what to say. She’s now mentioned multiple more times to her son that she’s picked our child’s name and will be naming him. He very firmly said no every time. She still continues to casually say this and she’s not joking either. I’m not really sure what to do here because she has always been overbearing and controlling with him and it causes a lot of fights/tension. She listens more to me than my partner but I don’t know how to get it across to her that she doesn’t get to decide these type of things. I find the naming to be extremely disrespectful especially because I chose to give our son the same middle name as my grandfather, who I was extremely close to. She hasn’t even bothered to ask what name we picked. She’s also said things about how we don’t know what we’re doing because I put books on the registry and not a bottle sterilizer or diaper cream. I don’t intend on using a sterilizer or even bottles that much at first as I intend on breastfeeding. We’re also very much aware that babies use diaper cream I just didn’t care to add every little thing to the registry. I also just don’t feel the need to explain/justify this to her or anyone else. Any advice on dealing with an overbearing soon-to-be grandparent? ETA: My partner is a lot more strict with her than I am since he’s been dealing with this since, well, forever. We’re fully on the same page about not telling her when I go into labor and things like that. I’ve already gone NC with my own parents over 10 years ago at this point. He’s been mentioning it with his own parents more and more lately and while it makes me sad considering the great relationship I had with my grandfather, I do understand that they aren’t him and it can be unfortunately necessary. Also, I do have bottles on the registry, I just think all the random gadgets like bottle sterilizers or wipe warmers are unnecessary. submitted by /u/Troobaby to r/whatdoIdo [link] [comments]

Glass bottles + sterilizers + bottle warmers - oh my!
I’m about to publish my baby registry to the public which has me second guessing EVERYTHING. I decided on Evenflo glass bottles. I also originally wanted to get a bottle sterilizer and a bottle warmer. But now I’m reading that most bottle sterilizers are made of plastic. So why would I want hot microplastics floating around my glass bottles? And now I’m also reading that glass bottles can’t be used with bottle warmers because the extreme temperature change can break the bottles. So - can anyone tell me from their experiences? Do I need a sterilizer or can I make do with boiling water + a drying rack? I also wanted a bottle warmer for ease during late night feeds but will glass bottles just break? submitted by /u/silver_endings to r/moderatelygranolamoms [link] [comments]

Mom overconsumption drives me nuts.
As a mom of 2 young children, I’m faced everyday with crap I’m “supposed” to buy for them. Even more frustrating is watching all the moms around me fall for the scam of overconsumption and spending over $3000 on new baby items for every new child. I had a girl first and a boy second, it won’t kill my son to wear my daughter’s sleep sack that is pink. Yet, I’m seen as a crazy person among my peers for not buying him a blue one? I wish that was the extent of the over consumption. New car seat, new stroller, new bouncer, new clothes, new crib, new nursery decorations, new bottles, new high chair, the list goes on. When I had my son, if I physically couldn’t reuse something I already had, I purchase from garage sales or local FB marketplace people. Then I meet up with other moms and everyone has brand new crap every time I see them. A bottle warmer? Just use hot water. A bath water thermometer? Just put your hand in the water and feel if it’s too hot! My bil spent $2000 on a fancy new stroller car seat combo. Absolutely abhorrent. I instead chose to open a savings account for my child’s future education or business. That’s it. Rant over. submitted by /u/PositiveChipmunk4684 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

What do folks do to feed formula to babies during long outings from home where there is no fridge or bottle warmer available (e.g. long trip via car)?
I have been giving premade 2 oz bottles of formula that I still had left over from our hospital stay, but that is about to run out and getting more is super expensive for a very small amount. It doesn't seem worth it. If taking a long trip away from home in a car, what do people do? I can see bringing bottles made at home, in a cooler, but I think my baby will refuse cold bottles. What do other people do? Do you mix the formula on the spot? Won't it be clumpy if the water is not hot enough? submitted by /u/SweetTooth4ever to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

You don’t have to warm your baby’s bottles
I gave my son cold bottles from the fridge since he came home from the hospital. He took them with no problem at all (both pumped milk and formula). My family kept telling me to warm the bottle, but I refused. Every baby is different, and some may not take it cold, but it’s worth a shot to try. Skipping this step makes things a little bit easier… anything helps. submitted by /u/mkkxx to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]
