I already posted my Amazon box but I figured I’d post the others that I received as well! Babylist: ordered January 18th, arrived January 27th. I paid $8.95 for shipping. This was the only box that I paid anything for but it was the best! Im really happy with the items and it also came with a coupon for a free little unicorn swaddle ($8.95 shipping), a free set of Dyper brand diapers and wipes ($5 shipping), and a free can of Bobbie formula (I believe around $8-9 shipping). Amazon: ordered January 20th, arrived January 27th. This was the most disappointing box. 3 items and a sample was all I got. The swaddle is nice but I don’t care to have a plain white onesie and another Dr browns bottle. Boxes I’ve see others post in the past were so much better! Target: ordered January 22nd, arrived February 2nd. This was the 2nd best. Really pleased with the variety of diaper and wipe samples and bibs pacifier. Shipping was free with target circle membership. Walmart: ordered January 26th, arrived February 7th. This one is okay. Im glad to have the pads and the large size wipes as they will definitely get used but the boxes in the past were more exciting with cute baby items. FTM here! Title basically summarizes my question! I’m working on my registry, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on different registry sites. I’ve made a registry with Babylist because I like that I can link things from different sites so I can find lower prices. I’ve also seen that Amazon offers the completion discount which I think would be super helpful as well to save money and I know Babylist has the option to link another registry. Just wondering if anyone has done the Babylist registry and the Amazon registry linked together and how that was? Also if you have any other recommendations on what would be best I’d really appreciate it! ETA: I ended up going with Babylist for my baby shower and it was very easy to use. Some people didn’t mark their gift as purchased so just something to send out as a reminder to people. I like that you can track gifts bought through Babylist directly and I didn’t know they offered a 15% off discount too. Sorry for the wall of text. TLDR: Dont use babylist I've got 9 items that have doubles of them I cant return to Target because it was purchased through Babylist and it doesnt include the order number I've got another 4 amazon returns that had no information included for returns since people bought from Amazon and not through Babylist (ie they opened the link separately and purchased it) Babylist support has disconnected me twice and said "tough stuff go to the retailers" Retailers say they cant do anything since theres no info for the returns Yes, people should have included gift receipts and info for returns, but also babylist has gigantic holes in its usability Just stick to making actual baby registries with retailers, and avoid babylist all together. The experience with babylist has been terrible enough where I would not recommend it to anyone. We’re due in a couple of months and this was not a planned pregnancy. Although we do have some friends and family that are willing to gift us things, and we are beyond grateful for that…I’ll take anything free! My husband and I are waiting to try until August 2025 at the earliest, possibly even until late 2026 depending on how we might feel when the time gets closer. I'm 31 and have minimal experience with babies or children at all. If I'm feeling excited about something and have the motivation to dive into it, I try to let myself go ahead and do whatever the thing is because by the time it's ACTUALLY "time" to do it, I probably won't feel like it anymore and it will end up being a very stressful, rushed thing. Lately the idea of having a child has suddenly felt so real and exciting instead of just something that was always incredibly far off. I've started reading some pregnancy/baby books to help me better understand what having a baby even entails, so we can be better prepared knowledgeably, emotionally, and financially. I've been getting really into planning what we will need and making curated lists. I have a private Amazon wish list called "baby registry items" where I'm saving lots of things. Most recently I ended up starting a private Babylist registry and have been having so much fun adding to it and researching/comparing different versions of bathtubs, car seats, etc, and choosing ones that I believe we'll want on our actual registry. Obviously these items might change when we're actually pregnant, so I'm not taking it so incredibly seriously that I think I won't have to adjust it at all later down the road. Hi sweet mamas! This standalone post is a follow-up to a comment I made on a post yesterday, which blew up overnight. In that post, I told a newly delivered mom “I’m a CLC who, as passionate as I am about breastfeeding, has encouraged many women to stop breastfeeding, and I have no shame in doing so”. I fired off that quick comment before I went to bed, and the response I woke up to was overwhelming. I got so many PMs from moms who admitted to having been bullied by their LCs, and that breaks my heart. So I’m here to share some insights about breastfeeding. Disclaimer: I am a Certified Lactation Counselor, but not your hired CLC. This is not medical advice. Consider this guidance when choosing your own CLC. First of all, I have witnessed over my career, that more women would be successful at their breast milk feeding journeys (exclusive breast, combo, or exclusive pumping) if they were (A) informed and prepared for how challenging it is in the beginning, including full transparency about cluster feeding during supply establishment; (B) they were paired with supportive, non-authoritative LCs; and (C) a metric shitton of improved social supports, including paid maternity AND paternity leave, better partners, at home physical checks on mom and baby, and solid community supports. [1] Breast feeding is fucking hard. Yes I said it. Your baby is born with a stomach the size of a cherry pit. And typical responders will produce just enough milk to fill that little cherry pit for the first 2-3 days. What does that mean? Baby needs to snack All. Damn. Day. And. Night. Like, every hour on the hour. It’s EXHAUSTING. If you don’t have a rock solid partner who will do literally everything else for you, this will break you very quickly. I don’t say this to scare you, I say this to prepare you. If more women knew this was a very hard but temporary part of the breast feeding journey, and had themselves mentally prepared and had corralled an army of support, we would see fewer drop offs on the first 2 weeks of breast feeding. Prepare the freezer meals. Have your partner change every diaper, every outfit, put baby in/out of the bassinet, refill your water, bring you your food… you should literally take your self to and from the bathroom, have a baby on your boob, and sleep. That’s it. [2] Unless otherwise medically indicated (primarily having an infant in the NICU), YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO PUMP in the first month or more! Pumping fucking sucks. And if you do number one as above (baby on the boob all day errday), your supply should increase just perfectly for your baby (again, barring rare complications on the mom’s part, or a tongue tie on baby’s part, the latter of which is pretty common). Introducing the stress, discomfort, and time suck that is pumping in the early days of breast feeding is not only unnecessary but then you set mom up for risk of oversupply which is NOT a good thing. [3] 👏🏼 THERE 👏🏼 IS 👏🏼 NO 👏🏼 SUCH 👏🏼 THING 👏🏼 AS 👏🏼 NIPPLE 👏🏼 CONFUSION 👏🏼 If your LC tells you this, fire them. I’m not fucking kidding: it’s a bold faced lie meant to shame moms. When baby does great with the bottle but screams at the breast, or vice versa, it is not nipple confusion, it’s any one or all of these three things: (1) flow mismatch, (2) volume mismatch, (3) oral motor mismatch. Flow mismatch: the speed of which milk comes out of the bottle is not the same as what comes out of the breast, and that confuses baby and pisses them off. Volume mismatch: the amount given to baby in a bottle the first few weeks is 99.99% of the time much more than what mom makes, which does NOT mean there is anything wrong with mom’s supply! Remember that cherry pit size tummy I spoke about earlier? Well it should gradually expand each day as supply increases. If you shove a full three ounces into that tiny tummy, you fast track it to stretch to full capacity before it is ready. And babies are obligate suckers, meaning they will suck if there’s a nipple in their mouth, even if they aren’t hungry. So you give them a full bottle, then 3 hours later put ‘em back on the boob where they get a healthy 10mL from mama instead of the 90mL you just slammed down their gullet with the bottle, and yup, you guessed it: that confuses baby and pisses them off. Oral motor mismatch: most of the bottles on the market are a terrible shape for an optimal latch (and fun fact: if the bottle markets that they are “just like the breast” the vast majority of them are, in fact, not at all like the breast. Your nips get long and skinny. Those wide ass baby bottles can go shove it, and so can their marketing teams because shame on them). Most wide bottles encourage decreased tongue cupping and instead promote increased jaw excursions. That’s fancy speak for your baby is gonna start biting you like a fucking shark, because that is how the milk comes out of the bottle you likely purchased. And no milk comes out when they bite your boobs, so baby is starved and, say it with me… that confuses baby and pisses them off. Okay, so what does all this mean for you, the exhausted, raw, bleeding, chapped, and likely hemorrhoid-ed warrior that you are? If you’re newly delivered and dealing with the misinformation I’ve typed above, it means you need to fire your LC. There are good ones out there but they can be hard to find, and unfortunately the ones that work in hospitals have tended to be some of the worst ones in my observation (having worked at a hospital for over a decade). If you’re pregnant, start interviewing private LCs in your community and get one lined up before you deliver. Ask them about their thoughts on pumping immediately after birth, nipple confusion, etc. Ask then how they will support you if you feel like you’re done breastfeeding. Uncomfortable news flash: stop playing the social media comparison game about getting All The Unnecessary Fancy Shit so you can have an instagram perfect nursery. You don’t need half the stuff on your registry. You don’t need a goddamn Moses basket, ladies! You know what you need? The “please just give me money” option on your Babylist registry, so people can chip in for you to hire necessary services: a private LC, a night nurse even if it’s just 1-2 nights a week, a housecleaner, etc. Unfortunately, most countries no longer follow the communal model that we used to have which was so much more beneficial for moms and children. So we have to build it (and usually pay for it) ourselves. Focus on the stuff that actually matters and gather your tribe around you, which will give you way more peace of mind and add much more value to your life than that stupid Moses basket ever will. Your baby deserves a happy, healthy, well mama. And whether that means you need to formula feed, slap on a nipple shield, pump and bottle feed, sleep train, take mental health meds, hire a night nurse and sleep in… DO IT, with no reservations. I have had the worst experience with babylist y’all! I was totally sold by their marketing that it would be super convenient and easier than multiple registries for people to use. Cut to 2 weeks before my shower and nothing is marked as purchased - even though relatives have told me what they’ve bought from it - because it requires people to go back to the registry page and mark the item as purchased manually when they purchase non-babylist store items. My older less tech savvy relatives cannot figure this out. ALSO! They’re returns process is not easy like they say. They ship everything in plastic mailers that you can’t reuse for returns, so I have to print the return label and find or buy packaging for all the items I need to return. Which is a lot of items since nothing is getting marked as purchased. Also their advertised baby welcome boxes were out of stock when I qualified for it. Hardly anyone can even find our registry page either, I’ve had to send direct links to everyone pretty much even though it’s listed on my shower invitations just like one would for any other registry location - “heather is registered at babylist” I’m sure other people probably had better experiences than I have with them, so more power to you, but if you have relatives that struggle with tech I don’t recommend it! I’m annoyed and thought I’d share my experience since I haven’t heard many people give positive or negative reviews for babylist. Mine is a big fat no. ETA: Glad to give some helpful feedback to those of you still debating. A few people have said they really enjoyed using babylist so check out the comments to see what works best for your situation. For me this wasn’t a great choice, but I can see how it would be really helpful for others! As a funny aside the item I had to return was an outfit sized for a 4 year old that my MIL bought in the wrong size, not even sure how that happened lol! Our family is not very good with tech and don’t pay much attention which is what caused all the issues for us. Hi all! FTM here, 15w 3d. I am starting to organize the list of things we want to purchase and build our registry. Looking for feedback on my list so far! If you have suggestions for something better or pros/cons of whatever listed - any comments are welcome! We are not overly concerned with price and are willing to spend more if it's worth it. If all goes well, we definitely want more kids so are also looking for things that will last longer and can be used across multiple kids - hence, ok with spending more for an item that lasts longer. Baby Wrap - Solly Baby Wrap Play Gym - Love Every Play Gym Breast Pump - Willow Pump OR Spectra S1 Plus ...the hands free aspect of the Willow is awesome but it's more than double the price - anyone have the willow? is it worth it? We want a crib that can eventually convert to a toddler bed and full size/queen bed so this furniture will be with the baby for awhile - so looking for solid quality that lasts and can follow baby well into elementary/middle school.
