Midwest has barely bought into "flex culture" and I love it
Speaking in generalities, Midwesterners don't try and buy range rovers and buy high fashion. I have a wealthier friend of mine that rebadged a high end vehicle with the lower end badge (think Toyota badge on a Lexus). Way less outward flexing of wealth than my friends that live in Dallas, Miami or Arizona. There's no pressure felt here to have the coat with the goose on the sleeve, or the AMG badge on my car. Even plastic surgery is so much less widespread, lot less lips filled to 44 PSI around here. Lots of botox but not quite so obvious with filler. My classmates in AZ are constantly posting pictures of their new cars and bottle service and other flexes. The classic pictures leaning on fancy car bs. I appreciate the midwest so much. ZERO pressure to drive new cars and have deluxe apartments. Keep staying real Midwest! I know for fact they earn less (not competing just stating it) but they live lifestyle that's so expensive I don't get it. submitted by /u/HenFruitEater to r/midwest [link] [comments]

No insulation above second floor
I'm under contract on this home and just found out there's no insulation under these floorboards. Home inspector thought it might be easier to spray foam on the ceiling here rather than pull up the boards and insulate the floor. From what I understand this would be better for the HVAC efficiency too a bit. Any advice or watch outs? I'm going to have it professionally done but people seem to disagree about spray foam and trapped moisture and impacts on the roof so I wanted to get opinions from this sub. Could you call it a Barndiminium, Should anything ever be called a barndiminium?
Unique converted Quonset Hut / Loft Style Home Quonset Huts are making a comeback - their unique style, beautiful lines, and affordability are an interesting combination - popularized during WWII when over 100k were built and used as troop housing, officers quarters, and airplane and vehicle storage. Feedback on my barndominium floor plan? 32x50, 2-story, partial basement
Hey everyone — I’d love some feedback on my floor plan before I get too far into final drawings. I have land and am in talks with a builder, but would love some input. We're planning a 32x50 barndominium build, 2 stories, with a partial basement. We’ll be on well and septic, and the plan is for utilities/mechanical (water equipment, HVAC, etc.) to live in the basement. We'll also have a detached pole barn. I’m mainly looking for general impressions and anything that jumps out (good or bad): flow, room sizes, storage, “you’ll regret this later,” etc. A few specific things I’m curious about: Does the layout/traffic flow make sense day-to-day? Any obvious wasted space or rooms that feel undersized/oversized? Thoughts on stairs/bathroom placements + how it impacts the plan? Any must-have storage or mechanical/utility considerations people forget? Anything I should consider now because we’re well/septic and keeping mechanicals in the basement? Would you skip in-floor head in favor of HVAC? We were quoted 12k to add in-floor heat. For context in the drawings, north is facing the top of the image and south is facing the bottom of the image. I've positioned my living room with the best view and most natural light (south). We find an open concept living space to be appealing, but open to opinions there as well. Pics of the plan are in the comments (or attached). Appreciate any critiques — don’t hold back 🙏 submitted by /u/Nordic-Woodsman to r/floorplan [link] [comments]

Yo Dawg, We Heard You Like Open-Concept Living Spaces
Found this browsing semi-local Zillow. $2.5 million for nearly 8,000 square feet of… unusable space. Except in the minuscule primary suite, of course. Imagine changing one of those ceiling high-hat lights in the living room/kitchen/2nd story game room(?). At least they have ample garages so you can spend all your time in vehicles, as far away from the house as possible. Customer Lost it and I walked off the job for good.
I'm an independent contractor working on a barndominium project by myself. On 3/11 my wife went into labor while I was at work. (3 weeks early)I immediately stopped what I was doing and cleaned up as quickly as I could and ran home to get her and our 2 year old. On 03/12 my wife had an emergency C-Section and we were stuck in the hospital until Sunday 03/16. We don't have family super close by so I spent last week at home helping my wife with our 2 year old and our new born. I left the customer multiple messages(4) letting them know I wouldn't be there last week and when I showed up today they had an absolutely melt down telling me that "paternity leave isnt a thing and its my wifes responsibilty to raise the kids and I should be at work". I told them I would not apologize for taking care of my family and they requested that I give them a MAJOR discount for the time off and I said "if that's how you feel you no longer owe me anything" and walked off the job. Was I wrong to do that? submitted by /u/Only_Chip2838 to r/Contractor [link] [comments]

The definition of “Barndominium”
I don’t even know where to start… 62’x72’ footprint, 24’ to the upper eve. The one side is a 14’ lean to has a 12’x 14’ overhead door on either end for a drive through truck and horse trailer storage. The center section is 24’x 72’ and will include the tack room, staircase, utilities/toilet room, 12’x 12’ washbay, and paver walkway in front of the six 12’x14’ horse stalls in the other 14’x72’ lean to. The open lean to is 10’x 72’. Finally upstairs is 24 x 72 (1700 sq ft) living quarters. 4’x24’ deck. There’s 18 windows total, there’s six (3’x3’s that are always going to be dirty 😂) one for each horse stall that look down from the upper loft into the horse stalls. Oh yeah and overhangs everywhere!! Yes, there are a couple pieces of trim that are missing in these pictures (i’m sure somebody was gonna say something 😂) put them on the day after these pictures, but we got like 4 inches of snow. Fun build🤘🏽 submitted by /u/Morrisz89 to r/barndominiums [link] [comments]

Is a 100k barndominium possible?
Hello all, never built a home before, got some assistance from others who have built a barndominium and are saying it’s possible. I own about 6 acres of land outright, we planned on using that as collateral for the house building process. The size we are going for is listed above which is about 980 square feet.
