Ideas for decorating a powder room?
We have this fugly small downstairs bathroom that is finally getting a makeover! I’ve already decided on the paint colour (dark blue) and fixtures (antique brass) but need some help figuring out how to decorate/style it! I’m particularly unsure about that blank wall (which again remember will be painted dark blue along with the radiator). Also obv gonna get a mirror for above the sink. * Do I put up shelves (there’s a ledge behind the toilet so not sure if I need them)? * Two big prints? * A galley wall? Do I need an under sink cabinet or would it look OK without? The one in the pics is an old one that I’m getting rid of and not sure if I wanna replace? I don’t really need to store anything besides toilet paper so I was gonna get a nice basket for that. Candles? Plants? A little rug? All ideas welcome 🙏🏻 submitted by /u/BiancoLatte89 to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Curved wall decor ideas?
My parents recently renovated their bathroom and are unsure what, if anything, to put on this curved wall for decor. The curve comes from a staircase on the other side of the wall, which was already part of the house when they bought it. The first photo shows the curved wall, and the other photos show the rest of the bathroom for context. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/amw123 to r/homedesign [link] [comments]

I’m looking for ideas to decorate my bathroom. The floor and vanity are new but everything else can change. We have some shiplap in the living room nearby. Maybe an accent wall with textured wallpaper, shiplap or just a darker paint? Wainscoting on all walls? What do you think??

Help w/ Bathroom Decor
I posted on a different a few months back asking for help with my bathroom. Photos 1 & 2 are the "after", photos 3 & 4 are the "before". Very happy with how it turned out, from a layout perspective, and just waiting for the shower doors to be installed. But now I'm kind of lost on what to do for colors/design/decor. The vanity is a beautiful dark green (which you unfortunately can't even tell) and with the white walls the whole room looks pretty sterile right now. I don't know what colors to bring in or what decor I can add to keep it interesting and make it inviting. Shelves at "face height" on the left wall aren't a great idea because anyone entering the bathroom would walk right into them. In terms of preferred style, would like to take it in either Victorian gothic or alt direction (for example I have a large illustration of a tattooed cat I've been saving to put in this bathroom) Would appreciate any suggestions - thanks! submitted by /u/Ok_Airline1337 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Seeking ideas on mirror and decor for over the toilet!
We are in the end stages of our bathroom renovation. Thoughts on above the toilet decor? I'd like to include art of some kind, but the height of the shiplap is a little awkward for spacing. I'm not a huge fan of stuff touching the toilet tank, but maybe a basket with TP? I originally thought of placing a shelf with pictures and maybe an air freshener, but again not sure about how high to place it. I like the idea of an irregular-shaped mirror above the sink, but not sure if that would clash or compliment the pattern of the tiles. The heights of the wall scones are adjustable depending on what size mirror we get (plus I dont love the black cord that lengthens them). All suggestions are welcome!! submitted by /u/spotted_eggies to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

My roommate of one month wanted me to do therapy with him as a condition for inviting friends over to the apartment
TLDR: met someone who i thought was a good match but ended up not being a match in the most alarming way. He wanted me to do therapy with him, and would say and do the most bizarre things. Sharing this in celebration of him finally moving out. A couple months ago I sublet the spare room in my NYC apt to someone (34,M) I met on Reddit. i have lived in the apartment for 5 years now. Problems started almost immediately after he moved in. One of the main issues was that he arrived with a significant amount of shared-space items that he had never mentioned before. Not only did they not fit in the apartment, but he also began rearranging things and moving my items and furniture without asking... He started directing where things in the apartment should go and placing decorative objects in areas of practical spaces. The breaking point for me was when he placed a tray of several large vintage crystal decanters and wine glasses directly on the center of the small kitchen island as decoration (this is in NYC and the island is where I cook). The decanters were large, fragile, and took up most of the space. I told him that while they were beautiful, they couldn’t stay there because i need the counter space. I also hated the idea of the apartment being alcohol-centric to put it on display on the kitchen island. This upset him quite a lot and led to a series of increasingly intense conversations about fairness, "gracefulness", communication and our relationship as roommates. During one of these discussions he asked if I would be willing to go to therapy with him. At this point he had lived in the apartment for barely a month. To say I was shocked, shooketh and gagged would be an understatement of last year, but I kept a poker face and said I was open to the idea if it helped resolve tensions, mostly hoping he wouldn’t actually bring it up again. 15 minutes later he returned back to the topic of therapy and asked me a follow-up question; he asked me if I had agreed to therapy only because he had suggested it, or whether I would have independently thought of therapy myself. In other words, I think he knew how crazy the idea of therapy sounded and wanted me to validate him furthermore after I had said that I am open to the idea of therapy. This probing made me come to the slow and scary realization about him. He is a person of extreme intensity who constantly analyzes, calculates, questions, and interrogates every interaction. He would ask me similar questions to measure my intentions and morals, but frame them as "just trying to understand what you meant/ understand you better, why would you think the worst of me??". I would always feel probed and examined under a microscope as you can see above. It was exhausting. This was also a source of our tensions as I look back on it. After that discussion we spent the next two weeks mostly quiet, civil but not socializing. Then Halloween weekend came around and a friend asked if they could come over to stay with me. She has visited me every year before him in the apartment. I checked with my roommate first to make sure he was okay with it out of courtesy despite the clear guest policies. This prompted the response in the screenshot. I even compromised to him in return by telling him that she will exclusively stay in my bedroom which has its own bathroom, so that he won’t be bothered by her presence. I planned to bring her water and food from the kitchen if needed be. He still found a problem with it, claiming that I have control issues and that there was no point in asking him anything if I was going to do whatever I wanted to do in the apartment. The crazy thing is that I gave in and did the therapy with him, and regretfully regretted it. He exploded into bursts of rants in therapy and the therapist did little to no help claiming « nobody is right or wrong » . I distanced myself as far away as possible from him after, worried he would lash out to me. Some of the other bizarre/outrageous things he did: - He posted on part of his reddit apartment search that he prefers not to live with people who are on psychiatric meds. He also asked me if I was on psych meds when we met the first time and explained that he does not prefer to live with someone taking psych meds. It seemed like he had a bad experience. I agreed with him, saying that while I respect people who take psych meds, I would prefer not to live with them if possible but that it's not something I actively screen for. A month into his move in, I found prescription bottles of Escitalopram and other anxiety meds in his name lying around. - While we were hanging out shortly after he moved, I once told him in passing "... blah blah since I tend to be an introvert". He told me he actually didn’t appreciate that I hadn’t disclosed that I am an introvert when we met, and said that if he had known I was an introvert he might have made different choices about moving in. When I asked what he meant by that, he said : Him: "Well, I am a 100% extrovert, and I didn't want us to be passing ships in the night, and expected this to be... sort of a Golden Girls situation where we are close together." Me: "... Well, I am sorry if you feel that my introversion is something I should have announced to you, but that does not mean I won't spend time with you at all but rather that I do need some time alone from time to time with myself to recover and reflect. So if you would like to spend time and hang out with me like we are now, just tell me or ask and I can let you know if I am free". I kid you not, he said : "Well...... I am not sure if I like that, because I don't like to put myself in a position where I am being told yes or no" Me: "😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 ....... So if you have a work obligation or any other obligation, and if I ask you to drop whatever you are obligated to and hang out with me non-stop 24/7, are you saying that you will do it? Is that what you are also expecting me to do? While he did not answer me yes, he also did not answer me no and had to think about the answer before diverting to another topic!!! I never really truly understood his nature as I had to distance myself from him, so please let me know if I missed something clearly obvious from him. Anyway, he finally moved out. Here’s to hoping I won’t have to do therapy with the next one!! Stay safe out there! submitted by /u/nightshade_45 to r/badroommates [link] [comments]

Small Guest Bathroom Ideas (Renter Friendly)
Hi! I’m a renter and one of our guest rooms has this tiny pink bathroom attached to it. I always feel bad that we don’t have more going on in here decor wise to make it more cozy. Also the sink handles are not the most user friendly, there is barely any space for guests to put their stuff in here, and there is no shower head. A friend sent me a shower head attachment that connects to the tub spout, but between the slanted wall and the bathroom being so tiny, we weren’t sure if it’s worth it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! submitted by /u/Brooklyn_trees to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

My [31M] husband’s friend sa’ed me [31F] How do I tell my husband?
I [31F] and my [31M] husband have been together for over 13 years and this incident happened during my birthday party. We converted our garage to a gaming/event room where we throw parties on multiple occasions and we even host DnD every Friday night with the same people who attended the party. There were about seven people there and only a handful of them were drinking heavily including me. This is a really complicated situation and I’m sorry in advance if I don’t make any sense. Towards the end of the night I was in a corner with the man who touched me ( we’ll call him Dustin) and his friend (we’ll call him Tim). I always dress up and wear costumes/sparkles for each themed event we host. Dustin randomly asked if he could use some of my sparkles, so I gave them the bottle not thinking much of it because he often does dress up when we throw parties that involve costumes. Tim held the bottle while he put sparkles on Dustin’s hand and then the next thing I know his hand is down the front of my shirt grabbing at my bare chest. Dustin then removed his hand from my top and looked at his friend Tim who then put more sparkles in his hand and again he forcefully put his hand back down my shirt. They tried doing it a third time before I realized what just happened (I was extremely drunk and my reaction response was non existent) and I began trying to get the F@$k away from them. As I was backing up out of the corner of the room, my husband returned from the bathroom. Just then Dustin grabbed the glitter bottle and started smearing glitter on everyone’s faces trying to make things look less suspicious in my opinion. I know this sounds ridiculous, I’m still in shock. I have no idea how to tell my husband because if I do tell him, obviously he’s going to explode. Then there goes his DnD group, because both Dustin and Tim are in it. All of our friends are friends with each other so this will spread like wildfire. I’m so scared of the repercussions this may cause for everyone. What if they accuse me of lying? Plus, I keep asking myself… there were other people in the room. How did no one else notice?? I know you may think wearing sparkles and dressing up as a 31 year old woman is childish or absurd but I go all out for my parties. I decorate, provide all the food and drinks, I thought I was providing something for these people to look forward to but now I feel like a fool. I also trusted Dustin, he’s never done anything like this before. How do I tell my Husband without him going nuclear? Sorry if I don’t respond, I’m not doing very well right now. A lot of things have happened in a short amount of time and this on top of everything else made life unbearable. submitted by /u/AdHairy6919 to r/relationship_advice [link] [comments]

[29M] Recently moved into this (literal) studio appartment that's built in a barn full of goats, but is also free of charge
So yeah, good opportunity to save and live the good life! Still in need of lots of stuff, plants and decor most of all, and a good rug. And I desperately need a new desk but this was already here and I can't get rid of it for now lmao Trying to go cozy boho and keeping a bit of a theme where the furniture is dark wood/light oak and then the accents and lighting are warm yellows and oranges. Most of the decor so far means a lot to me, from my favourite albums to family memories to some of my drawings. As I don't (plan to) see myself ending up with a lady in my life anytime soon I'm trying to make this a space just for me. I love cooking, I love music so those things take priority, hence the smaller bed and no massive TV. The couch is just there because it was already there, I hate it but it does hide the unpacked stuff nicely lmao It's taking some time getting used to the goat sounds, and there's also 2 airports relatively close, so it's pretty chaotic a lot of times, but also it's free and I can do what I want so 🤷 Next up is making it more cozy and decorated, expanding the studio and getting a new desk and sitting area. The sleeping area also desperately needs some love! Since it's on the top floor of the barn (there's 2 floors) I've named it "Penthouse Golden Goat" (but in old Dutch) Any more ideas? I'm open to anything! For those wondering about the smell I'll copy my comment from below: "Sometimes, unfortunately. The goats themselves smell okay (funnily enough they smell like how goats cheese tastes. I hope I didn't ruin it for you) But they clear out the gutters that collect their manure once a week so when the time comes there's a decently strong ammonia smell. But the owner has been working on making everything more smell proof. I also burn tons of incense and smoke loads of weed so I usually don't even notice because the room already smells very strong lmao" As for how I ended up here (record scratch): "Long story short, my parents are freelance farmers. Meaning, they run someone elses farm, but get to live there as well as get a salary. No living expenses etc. When a farmer wants to retire, doesn't have someone to take over the business and selling isn't worth it, they'll usually do an arrangement like this. Usually you'll get a house, but this time it was a little apartment building attached to the barns. I'd just moved back home after a breakup and was planning to move out again when they applied for this place. And with how fucked the housing market here is, this is an opportunity that's too good not to take. Unless I'd find a roommate (quite hard here) or get into another relationship (no thanks) renting a place would cost me half my income and buying isn't even an option. So yeah, I share a building with my parents, they live downstairs lmao. But we all have our own utilities and kitchen and bathrooms etc. So I technically live at home with mom and dad, but not really" submitted by /u/GinkgoForest420 to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Boyfriend picked this green for the bathroom… now I’m stuck
My boyfriend chose this green colour for our guest bathroom. I wasn't keen on it to begin with and now I'm struggling to find inspiration for decorating this room. At the moment, it looks like a dentist's toilet to me. I was thinking of colours like pink or yellow maybe? I'm excited to hear your ideas! submitted by /u/mono_mink to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

our horrible HR manager tells lies, is rude and petty, and won’t do her job
our horrible HR manager tells lies, is rude and petty, and won’t do her job Originally posted to Ask A Manager TRIGGER WARNING: hostile workplace Original Post Sept 19, 2016 I’m in upper management at a growing company. Until two years ago, each executive had the HR responsibilities for their own department. But we became large enough to merit a full-time HR manager. We found someone with decades of experience, but she had moved jobs every two years. At first, we were all thrilled with her. But it quickly became clear why she never lasted very long! She is a compulsive liar and retaliates viciously against anyone who challenges her. She talks to the staff like they are children and can be incredibly insulting. While the entire management staff is frustrated by these problems, our CEO doesn’t see it, or refuses to acknowledge it. Let me give you some examples. She saw two employees leaving for lunch and called after them, “Don’t make it a liquid lunch!” One of those employees was a recovering alcoholic and, assuming she knew that from the FMLA paperwork in his file, was deeply humiliated by the suggestion. When the employee’s manager went to speak to her about it, she first claimed it never happened (there were multiple witnesses), then said she didn’t remember but would apologize. Instead, she refused to speak to the employee for over a month and repeatedly made snide comments about him to others. She has refused to speak to several other employees for affronts such as asking her not to speak baby talk to them, requesting an explanation of why they didn’t qualify for an internal posting, and having the nerve to question why it has taken six months to fill a vacant position. She posted a job that wasn’t vacant when the employee who held the job expressed disappointment at not qualifying for a promotion. (She then lied and said it wasn’t for that job when the employee asked, but told the management that “a friend” had secretly called her to let her know that this employee had applied at their company and was plotting to leave without notice. No one believes either story.) In staff meetings, she is fond of telling people that we need to “act like adults” (our staff skews to the over-40 demographic) but then talking to us like we are children, explaining and repeating her instructions over and again. She has even placed these horribly condescending signs in the bathroom to tell us how to clean up after ourselves, which end with the statement that if we don’t, “sometime a coworker will catch your disgusting behavior, and HR won’t be responsible for the consequences.” (Does that sound like a threat to turn a blind eye to violence? That’s how we read it. The worst part is, there has never been a problem with our bathroom!) Most troubling of all, she lies. When she wasn’t bothering to review resumes for a posted position for several months, she told us when questioned that the senior manager believed the position could be phased out. The senior manager was livid when asked, because he never said that. She frequently attributes her actions to made-up discussions with me, and I get angry staff members in my office, questioning why I would say things that I’ve never said. But when I’ve tried to confront her, she just lies to me too. Our CEO turns a blind eye, only acting on those things we can prove in writing. (For example, when she says she wasn’t informed about something but she was.) I don’t really understand why but we have tried approaching him about it to no avail. He will address the procedural issues by creating policies, but never addresses her inappropriate behavior or dishonesty. He wants us to just focus on creating resolutions with her, but ignore the behavior. He doesn’t acknowledge how seriously this is affecting morale throughout the company. We figure there isn’t much we can do about her except give her enough rope to hang herself. But in the meantime, how do we professionally handle the complaints from our staff members? How do we encourage them and keep up morale? How do we make them feel they aren’t at risk from her horrid behavior? Update 1 Dec 13, 2016 (3 months later) The management did exactly what you suggested. Our senior execs banded together and let the boss know the problems were intolerable. Most of it, he shrugged off. The one problem the boss keyed in on was that it had taken so many months to fill a vacant position – that he said he would look into. Apparently, he came back and told the department head over the position that he had spoken to HR, looked at the resumes, and this (part-time, clerical) position was just that hard to fill! (In other words, the HR lady completely snowed him.) Still, his having looked into it had some positive effects, because – lo and behold – suddenly the position was filled the next week! And several other positions that came open were filled rapidly, too. As for the other issues, for a while she improved. She kept to herself, didn’t insult or offend anyone. But she’s quickly sinking back into her old habits. For example, last week, she stood in the doorway of a manager’s office where he was having a work discussion with several employees and yelled, “What are you clowns doing in here?” as though they were in trouble. She thinks this is funny. The manager wasn’t amused, especially at being disrespected within the hearing of his entire staff. She also may have just gotten sneakier about pursuing her vendettas. And at least one member of the group that confronted the boss about the HR manager believes she is being targeted by HR. The big boss’ attitude towards this exec suddenly turned sour after a long time of working well together, and she says she has reason to believe the HR lady may be suggesting negative ideas about her. So rather than pursuing her retaliation openly, maybe she’s just running whisper campaigns. I don’t know for certain. What I do know is that morale is at the lowest I’ve seen it, and several of us are keeping our eyes out for opportunities elsewhere. Update 2 Dec 18, 2019 (3 years later) I wanted to give you one final update on this letter from 2016. A few months after my last update, the management staff decided to make one more last ditch effort before we all started searching hard for new jobs. We asked the most senior person to arrange a face-to-face meeting with the boss for the entire management team, except HR. Before, it was only senior management that met with him, and he fluffed them off. We felt a bigger show of concern might make an impression. And boy, did it! But not really the kind we wanted, unfortunately. The boss felt ambushed by having junior members of management there, even though he was told it was the whole management team that wanted to meet with him. He was defensive and on edge from the beginning, but after a while, he lost his temper completely. He yelled and cursed at a manager, and the senior manager who arranged the meeting blew up too. It turned into a shouting match between the two of them. (This was the person who believed HR was targeting them, and apparently the relationship between this person and the boss had gotten very tense, which we didn’t know when we asked them to call the meeting.) Everyone else was deeply uncomfortable. But once the shouting stopped we emphasized the problems we were having again, and explained that we wouldn’t have taken such drastic measures as “ambushing” him if the problems were manageable without his help. He begrudgingly promised to intervene and lay down serious guidelines for HR. Personally, I didn’t hold out much hope, considering how it all went down. But your advice worked! I don’t know much about what action he took. As I understand it, he basically told HR to stay in their lane — and in their office. They weren’t even to walk around the other departments unless they had a reason to be there. I gather he also told her that HR couldn’t do their job if the other members of management didn’t trust them, and it was on her to fix that. But whatever he said, it made a huge difference. The HR manager is a totally new person. She stays in her lane, doesn’t say rude things, and has only caused one kooky problem that I know of since that time. (Since I know commenters will be curious, here’s the gist. We’re allowed to decorate our own work spaces as we see fit, if the decorations aren’t offensive in any way. For Black History Month, several African-American staff members brought in inspirational posters for their doors of historical African-Americans — Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, etc. A white employee complained about “not feeling included,” so HR came and took the posters down without consulting the people who owned them or their supervisors. The other managers quickly took action, got people their property back, clarified to everyone that decorations aren’t company-sponsored but individual, and encouraged anyone who wanted to do so to bring their own decorations, if they wanted to include themselves.) The atmosphere throughout the company has improved so much that no one ended up leaving — except the boss, who finally retired earlier this year. The new boss is making all the members of management feel heard, and the relationships of all the managers with HR have become functional and professional. What I learned from this is that these confrontations may be scary, but sometimes they’re necessary, and there is strength in numbers. We went into it saying “He can’t fire us all.” We came out of it all getting the jobs we loved back, free of what was making us miserable. Thanks, Alison, for the great advice! This is my new master bathroom. I am struggling with what to do with the space between the mirrors. What would you do to decorate it? Leave it empty and put a taller floral arrangement on the vanity, add floating shelves on the wall, another mirror, artwork or something else? I am open to ideas!!

Looking for Ideas on how to de-modernize this bathroom without breaking the bank
Hi everyone! I have lived in my century home (built in 1825) since December and never set foot in this bathroom because quite frankly I was scared of it lmao I found out to today that this old 80’s jacuzzi bathtub actually works and I would like to keep it since I can’t afford to replace it at the moment. This entire house was modernized in the 80’s by some insane person hence the decor. lol (look at my previous post in here for reference) I am on a budget I need a cheap solution until I can remodel the bathroom to make it look better. Any advice would be appreciated! ( I plan on starting with giving this bathtub a deep clean god knows if these jets have ever even been cleaned 😩😩 submitted by /u/Finessequeen101 to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

My 6th period class destroyed/stole my personal classroom item, and I’m done.
UPDATE: Monday, April 7, 2025 First time I have ever done an update, so I hope I am doing this right. Before the update, I am new to this platform and I lurked for a few months before I felt comfortable enough to post anything and I just want to say thank you to those of you who shared your stories, offered support and ideas of things that worked for you—-I started a list of ideas that I can use now and in the future—and I will be sharing with the others in my department. So your thoughts will be shared. As for those who commented negative things like “go do something else” and “you should never put things in your room that can be broken” thanks for your feedback, too. Everyone has an opinion, I guess. The items I have in my classroom are mostly from current and former students. I have accumulated quite the collection of items that probably look like junk but to me, they are reminders of the people who were thoughtful enough to give them to me: I have a broken PS3 controller from a gamer student who turned his life around during his junior year, a small clay angel made by another student who ate lunch in my room every day her freshman year…..nothing pricy but filled with memories that I share with the kids who ask. These items remind me everyday of my “why”—-(yea, I know—-/s). So thank you, fellow Redditors. I will update this in a week or so to let you know if my admin has actually followed through….. I received a response to my email from my principal. They are going to remove a couple of the more troublesome students, as well as having a member of admin in my class each day for that period. The principal came in today and while the class wasn’t at their worst, they def weren’t at their best—probably because the two worst players were absent. She got to see some of the disrespect that I have been dealing with for months now. I just need to vent because I’m beyond angry and hurt right now and this happened on Friday. I have been teaching at the same school for 26 years and I have never had anything close to this happen. This is also the first time I have called for my union rep. On Friday, after school, I was doing my usual end-of-week cleanup when I noticed that the little plastic jellyfish I had floating in a decorative water display were missing—and water was spilled all over the place—floor, latop cart, everywhere. I’ve had this setup all year, and I know exactly when it happened: during my 6th period, easily my worst class of the year— The jellyfish were either stolen or destroyed. No one said a word. I was busy helping a couple students when it happened, and I know who was absent, so I have a rough idea of who was present when it happened. This is just the latest incident with this class. Over the past two semesters, they have: • Snuck other students into my class when I had a sub, then lied about it (this has happened multiple times) • Lied about going to the bathroom, only to roam the campus or meet up with girlfriends and got caught • Refused to do work, been openly defiant, and completely disrespected every boundary • Made my life miserable despite every classroom management intervention in the book—sent students out only to have them return with popsicles I’ve done it all: seating charts (too many times to count), parent phone calls, detention, behavior logs, messages home, and frequent admin referrals. Nothing has changed. The admin is aware, but the class dynamic never improves. I have requested certain students to be removed from the class, but I was told no. Now they’ve destroyed something personal—something that brought me joy and made my classroom feel like mine. I’m reporting it officially, but I don’t even know what to say anymore. I don’t feel safe leaving anything in my own room. I want to threaten them with Saturday School until my jellyfish are returned, but of course I have to be “professional.” I’m exhausted. And it’s not even about the stupid jellyfish—it’s about the complete lack of respect and decency. Anyone else ever had a class this bad? How do you keep going when you feel like you’re just being emotionally trampled by teenagers? I have been teaching 26 years and this is the worst group of students I have had and I have taught them all—from preschool to college. I hold several leadership roles at my school, too—one of which is dept chair. All year I have listened to other teachers talking about the poor behavior and disrespect and apathy and I haven’t said anything about what I have been experiencing because as a veteran, I felt like I should offer advice, not ask for it. But I am done. I should not hate my job because of a group of asshole 15 year olds. I reported this to admin and tomorrow I will meet with my union rep—first time in my career. What do you guys think I can expect? I requested action to be taken—either the majority of the class gets put in Saturday School or they get placed with another teacher. I am “opting out” of being in front of this class for the rest of the year. I have a six period schedule (our regular schedule is five periods) so I do not have to teach it. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. submitted by /u/Effective_Cow_4745 to r/Teachers [link] [comments]

I put this shelf in the bathroom for decorations. Benji had other ideas
I wanted a place to put a plant or scented candle in the bathroom. Benji kept jumping up there so consistently that I just keep it empty for his use at this point. (And we reinforced it so it wouldn’t break under his weight, too) submitted by /u/im_sleigh to r/standardissuecat [link] [comments]

At my wit’s end. My son suddenly won’t go in his room but won’t tell us why
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/bananaburps At my wit’s end. My son suddenly won’t go in his room but won’t tell us why Originally posted to r/Mommit Thanks to u/female_wolf for suggesting this BoRU Original Post July 20, 2024 We moved into a new house about a year ago so that my son (who turns 4 next month) can have his own room. We thought the transition would be rough but he took to his room almost immediately and have had no issues. He loved his room, has all his toys in there, bedtime routines went smoothly. Most nights he dozes off after a couple of stories and a smooch on the head. He has his nightlights and we keep his door open, even though he never mentioned being scared of the dark. Something changed on July 4th. He spent a good chunk of the afternoon playing in his room, even refusing to come downstairs for a bit. That same night and every night since, he refuses to go into his room at all, insisting on sleeping in our room. He won’t go in with us holding hands, and if we’re able to get him in for a second to retrieve a specific toy, he won’t go all the way in and then immediately run away back down the hall. He has no problem taking a bath in his bathroom across the hall, but he insists we keep the bathroom door closed. Then he runs straight from the bathroom to our room. We have asked him in all sorts of ways why he doesn’t want to go in his room, and he’ll deflect either by screaming COW BOY HAT (a la muffin) or giggle while naming every animal he can think of. We’re guessing he had a nightmare at some point, but he did spend the afternoon in his room with no problem on the day this started. We’re not getting anywhere here, and as a result I’ve been sleeping in his room while he shares our bed with my husband. Maybe I’m looking for someone who had a similar experience with their child that can offer up some fresh ideas, or maybe I’m just venting because I miss my bed. Argh. Edit 7/23: thank you so much for all of your great responses, ideas and stories!! I think I may have cracked the case here but now I have to figure out how to go about it. I was just grabbing something in his room around 3pm today and heard what was definitely an animal scurrying on the roof! Probably a squirrel. We have a metal roof and an exposed beam ceiling so we hear any drop of rain, but I have never until now heard an animal. This would make sense as to why he sometimes keeps naming animals in his room! Now if I’m right I just have to figure out how to go about this… RELEVANT COMMENTS HoneyNo8465 My guess is he’s either scared or ashamed. Could be fireworks like others are mentioning or it could be really silly. Hopefully not a ghost. I’m thinking like he pooped in the closet, had a potty accident, vomited, broke, or spilled something. Have you torn the room apart to make sure nothing is different about it? OOP My perception is that he seems more scared than ashamed. I’ve been sleeping in his room every night and checked every single corner, nothing out of the ordinary. I don’t think it’s the fireworks because there were no fireworks going on in the early afternoon when he was actually in his room, and either way he enjoys fireworks so much. We stayed outside all evening and watching them in both the front and back of the house. I’ve kept his room as normal and welcoming as possible especially when he’s taking a bath, he might crane his head around the corner to get a peek of his room but ultimately turn and run. We managed a few times to get him to walk a few steps in and grab a specific toy he wanted, but then he bolted. Update Aug 8, 2024 (19 days later) After exactly one month, I finally figured it out! I’ve been busy but wanted to update because I still am so stoked he’s back in his room. A few days ago, I got my son to acknowledge a couple of his toys from the doorway, and he stepped in a little bit with encouragement. I then took the opportunity to point at objects in his room and he had a huge reaction to a marvel poster that had been hanging over his bed since we moved in a year ago. He ran to our bedroom and hid under our covers, so I took it off the wall and walked it through the hallway. I stopped at our room for confirmation and he freaked out when he saw I was holding it. I told him that it’s going in the garbage and he’s never going to see it ever again. I hid it downstairs for later disposal, came back upstairs and told him it was gone. He leapt out of our bed and hurried down the hall to his room and jumped in excitement that “EVIL FACE IS GONE!!!” He then screamed in excitement about his Mario kart bed, tossed my pillow off, threw his Mario pillow on and tucked himself in! I was so ecstatic I danced around with him the rest of the night singing “NO MORE EVIL FACE”. We played with all the toys he missed He slept in his room that night and has since been spending even more time in his room playing by himself. He brings up nightly that evil face is gone and his room is fun. To those who are curious, it was a marvel framed poster with like 100+ superheroes and villains. He had always named even some of the more obscure characters (my husband is a comic book guy and passed on this knowledge). Im not sure which character scared him in particular but I theorize it was either m.o.d.o.k. Or ego the living planet. I didn’t stop to have him point out which was the evil face. RELEVANT COMMENTS What the poster looked like A picture of the poster, 100 Marvel characters charmander_ann I knew it!!! Yes, Ego and M.O.D.O.K have very evil faces! Another contender could be Armin Zola OOP That one too but I couldn’t remember his name 😆 tbh when my husband put it up, I felt like one day he would be scared of some of the sinister faces on it, but it just didn’t click since it had always been there ~ cokakatta When my son was a baby I put mickey mouse and friends wall stickers near his changing table. He got terrified of their eyes or something and I had to remove them. When he was a preschooler, I bought him pajamas that had a polar bear face on them and its eyes were angled and fierce looking. He was scared of it. I took a sharpie and rounded the polar bear's eyes and brought his eyebrows out and down to look kinder. I was proud of myself for that one. OOP Yup, I think it’s best to stay away from eyes and front-facing heads for decor. He still has his big Mario movie poster with Mario and Luigi but their heads are turned so it’s not so aggressive. Plus he loves Mario and Luigi and they’re so the opposite of scary. AITA for refusing to move out of my room for my stepbrother?
I (17F) live with my mom and her husband, Dave. They got married two years ago, and Dave has a son, Jack (19M), from his previous marriage. Jack lives with his mom but visits us every other weekend and during school breaks. My mom and I have lived in our house for as long as I can remember. When Dave and Jack came into the picture, I had already staked my claim on the biggest bedroom (other than the master) because it’s been mine since I was little. Jack usually stays in the guest room, which is smaller but perfectly fine. A few months ago, Jack’s mom moved to another state for work, and Jack decided he wants to stay with us full-time to finish his last year of high school. Dave thinks it’s a great idea and that it’ll be good for us to bond more as a family. I was on board until Dave suggested that I move into the smaller guest room so Jack can have my room. His reasoning? Jack is older and needs more space for his stuff, plus he’s not used to sharing a bathroom, and the guest room doesn’t have an en-suite. I was really upset by this. I’ve decorated my room just the way I like it, and it’s my personal space. I told them I didn’t want to switch rooms and that Jack should take the guest room since he’s the one moving in. Dave wasn’t happy with my response and said I was being selfish. My mom is trying to stay neutral but keeps hinting that it would be nice of me to help Jack feel more at home. Jack hasn’t said much, but he did mention how cramped the guest room feels. I feel like I’m being reasonable by wanting to keep my room, but everyone else seems to think I’m being difficult. So, AITA for refusing to move out of my room for my stepbrother? submitted by /u/YourCocaineSniffed to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

any ideas for my new bathroom!?
finally got a pink tile bathroom. a nightmare for some but a dream for me. i'm just renting, so any renter friendly ideas for decor/storage would be appreciated. we're allowed to paint if that helps. i'll be deep cleaning all the grout soon to really make the tile pop. also, i like a bright look (especially pink) and my roommate likes horror, so we were thinking about this shower curtain with bath mats around the color of the trim/michael myers' hair. even if it's not your specific taste, does anybody think it would go? i can't visualize how things will actually fit together until i see them. i think the blue is throwing me off. thanks in advance for any advice lol submitted by /u/jvdlthplants to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

AITA For telling my husband that my stepdaughter can’t return home until she pays my daughter back
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Educational_Pick_368 AITA For telling my husband that my stepdaughter can’t return home until she pays my daughter back Originally posted to r/AITAH Thanks to u/queenlegolas for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: destruction of property, verbal abuse, parental neglect Original Post Feb 13, 2024 I (30 f) have a 14 year old daughter Leia. Married my husband Mark (46 M) 6 years ago. He has two children from a previous marriage Koi (16 M) and Coral (14f). Me and Mark have the kids full time but his kids live with their mom for a few weeks during the summer. They moved into my lake house which has five bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms upstairs have bathrooms. My daughter had one of those rooms. But as the girls began high school Coral began complaining about not having a bathroom and said it’s unfair. Mark and Koi told her to stop complaining. Leía said it was fine and asked us if she could turn the basement into her room. I didn’t like that idea but she begged. So I agreed. Turns out my daughter wanted a room makeover so this worked out. We give the kids allowance and allowed them to get a work permit. Koi worked at an arcade and told the girls he could get them jobs. Coral refused to work but Leia agreed. After five months of saving her allowance, she able to buy everything she needed to decorate. Coral never bothered to go down there because she believed it was full of spiders, but Koi was down there everyday helping her. After a week she completely transformed the basement. She invited everyone down, and it was stunning. I didn’t even know that computer towers could be clear. She looked so proud. Coral then screamed that it wasn’t fair and that she wanted the basement now. Everyone began yelling at her but she began crying and before we know it she ran over to the computer and threw the tower on the ground. The glass shattered and one of the monitors fell to the floor also breaking. My daughter cried. I explained to Mark that Coral has to pay for this. He said her emotions are just high and that we’ll get situated when everything calms down. I ran to Coral and yelled saying that she’s on punishment. Mark didn’t agree but I didn’t care. Coral was unnecessarily crying, and ran to her mothers car. Koi was trying to help my daughter, and Mark tried to hand her 300 dollars but Koi explained that Coral caused about a thousand dollars worth of damages. He said luckily the expensive pieces in the case were saved, but the case itself was about 450 and the monitor was 200. Mark explained that he doesn’t have that kind of money. So I said she can’t come back until my daughters stuff is repaired with a sincere apology. Koi agreed and mark was upset saying he couldn’t do that to his daughter. I told him to leave if that’s the case. Mark left for a few hours and handed my daughter a check for 1000 dollars. I explained that Coral can’t come back if there is no punishment. My husband’s ex wife is saying that I’m banning her from our home because she didn’t deserve that bigger space and that we were treating Coral unfairly. But I said she did that there was nothing unfair about the situation. The Ex just hung up. Now my husband’s ex in laws are bombarding him with phone calls saying he’s a horrible dad. His sister even said he’s being a bad parent and they’re best friends so it’s really getting to him. This happened last night and he hasn’t gotten up yet. Should I apologize? Aita RELEVANT COMMENTS I3ex_G Nta but this is the man you choose to be around your daughter? This issue is bigger than his daughter, you need to re-evaluate your marriage and go to counselling to get on the same page OOP Neither Coral or Mark acted this way until Coral started high school. The girls we best friends. And Mark and I always agreed on how to handle the kids. I guess because Coral has never been this mean kid, he doesn’t know how to handle it. ~ ayeffgee Unpopular opinion..YTAH There's obviously more going on then just this incident. I'm sure Coral feels out of place there since you and Leia obviously have a closer bond. Divorce and blending families isn't easy but, I do think that everyone would benefit from family therapy. Seems like Coral is the odd man out and she is struggling with this family dynamic. I agree that there needs to be some type of consequence for her actions, but banning her is excessive. After all, she lives with you like you said. You'd be kicking out a 14 year old. Would you kick out your own daughter if rolls were reversed? OOP This is 100% not true. If anything me and Coral were closer because we have similar interests. In fact this was a problem when the girls were ten. But everything got solved. Everywhere Leia goes Coral goes and vise versa. Me and my husband have been married for 6 years and she has never displayed this behavior. I would 100% separate the girls. Leia only had one home Coral has two. Leia can’t go anywhere else to she only has me When someone called her an evil stepmother A highschool freshman shouldn’t complain. At her mother’s house she has her own room with a bathroom. Leia was nice enough to switch from the room she has been in her whole life. Coral literally yelled at everyone when Leia didn’t agree at first then threatened to start rumors about her. So once we felt helpless and gave in, I’m not about to do it again. She should absolutely be yelled at for doing it a second time. My daughter worked hard for stuff and shouldn’t be constantly terrorized for earning it. The girls had the same opportunities. She could have easily decorated her room if she worked with her sister. I hope that if someone damages your kids stuff that they worked for, that you protect them. Not enable the person that does wrong Update - 8 hours later Feb 13, 2024 Here is the original https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAH/s/yV5al7kGpA I found out the complete story and there is a lot of drama. It’s over a boy. So both my daughters are cheerleaders and it’s a Valentine’s Day dance coming up. All of Corals friends are cheerleaders and they all date football players except her. So for the past month her friends have been trying to hook her up with Brad. But it turns out he is interested in Leia. After all the games Brad talked with Leia. So Coral came up with a rumor that Leia plays roblox. It’s not really a rumor, but Brad found out. So after school a few days before the incident, Coral tells Brad how childish Leia is for still playing roblox. And Brad says he doesn’t think it’s childish. Turns out him and his friends play and then invited Leia to Join them. Then yesterday after school in the hallway, Brad had his friends recorded this big proposal to the dance that included flowers and chocolate and Leia accepted. Apparently Coral was crying at cheerleading practice and Leia went up to ask what’s wrong and if she needs anything. Coral and her friends started cursing Leia out. So Leia just backed off. Then this morning Coral posted on Facebook about how Leia is the favorite child and that she was kicked out of her decorated bedroom in order for Leia to have it. Her mom (Drea) had also posted something similar. Koi didn’t want this to ruin Leia’s reputation. So he posted everything about their lies. He also posted a picture of the shattered case. And explained how everything Coral said was a lie and how Leia was nice enough to give up her bedroom. Drea also called us some horrible names. Then Koi responded that the reason the custody is no longer 50/50 is because Drea’s husband hates kids. Apparently Coral didn’t know this but Drea sent my husband a text saying he knows how her husband feels about the kids being here, so he needs to make up with her and let her come home. Mark then screenshot this and sent it to Coral. She came home and went straight to her room she, skipped practice. Leia is on her way, so when she gets home we’ll have a family meeting. Update 2 - 2 hours after 1st update Feb 13, 2024 Update 2: Aita for kicking my stepdaughter out? Update 2 to https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAH/s/OpWagqh717 So we had a long talk. Coral came down and apologized to Leia. And she was jealous about Brad. She also apologized to me for lying to her aunt. She believed that Leia got everything she asked for. So I had her explain and the only thing she said was Brad. As I was about to explain Mark stepped in and told her that wasn’t everything. Mark then explained everything Coral got which included a room makeover which Leia had to pay for on her own. A brand new laptop after Leia had to pay for her entire computer setup. He then asked is this really about a guy that she doesn’t have anything in common with? Coral then told us how popular he was and that because Leia is a nerd they don’t mesh. Other than cheerleading, Leia is in quiz bowl and a robot making club. Leia explained now that football was over Brad was also in those clubs and so are his friends who the other cheerleaders date. Coral than began crying again because after the Facebook post her friends explained that their boyfriends don’t want to be involved with a liar and advised them to stop hanging with her so they didn’t sit with her at lunch today. Mark calmly told her that was her own doing. She broke down and said I know. Mark then held her in his arms and apologized about sending her the screenshot and explained that I wasn’t the bad guy. She then explained that Drea told her that I forced mark to get full custody so that we all could be one big happy family. So that along with the Brad situation made her lash out. She then ran to hug me saying how sorry she was. And looked a Leia and apologized once again. I brought up family therapy and everyone agreed. Coral took the post down already and apologized to Leia publicly. I know things are looking up but without friends and this situation with her mom, I’m not sure what’s going to happen THIS IS A REPOST SUB - I AM NOT THE OOP submitted by /u/Direct-Caterpillar77 to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

AITA For telling my husband that my stepdaughter can’t return home until she pays my daughter back
I (30 f) have a 14 year old daughter Leia. Always Sunny party decoration ideas?
So I’m having a Sunny themed party this weekend. The menu is set (rum ham, pigeon, spaghetti served in plastic bags, canned wine station, riot punch, etc) and we’ll be playing a version of CharDee MacDennis. But I’m a bit at a loss for decoration ideas. I have the dog portrait and plan on putting “Animal Shithouse” on the bathroom doors, but other than that, I’m drawing a blank. Any ideas or recommendations? submitted by /u/novacaine_stain to r/IASIP [link] [comments]
