So my fiance's blackness matters a lot to her and she is very cultural like that. I on the otherhand am quite literally the polar opposite of her but we somehow make it work and we've been together for 5 years now. So my buddy invited me over to his place where we are to dress up as people from the middle ages with jousting, archery (with those foam arrows) and maybe some sword fighting (he may scrap this one though). I asked my fiance if she wanted to go and she said it wasn't her thing. Well today she told me of an event that she really wanted to go to and she wanted to know if I wanted to come. When she told me the date I told her I couldn't go because I already agreed to go to my buddys thing. She was quiet for a bit and then she expressed her frustration with me for not wanting to explore my blackness and do something that will enrich myself culturally. I told her that this was her thing and while I respect that, it literally has no interest at all for me and if I did go it would only be for her and I'd probably zone out. Not sure if a post like this is allowed, but any of you have ever had this happen before? I guess next time I should keep the little lid on top closed Update: Just a little more information for the people who are curious. Obviously I’m not touching the newly created mansion, and letting the new owner do its thing hahah. Some were also wondering where this was taken, I live in the Netherlands. I think it’s a “blue tit” (but definitely correct me if I’m wrong). Update 2: I have been corrected, it’s a great tit. Update 3: Just in case anyone still sees this, the parents flew in and out very frequently the last 2 weeks to bring food to the little ones. Throwaway for anonymity. 34F, married to John for 9 years, have 3 kids. This is long, full of drama and I do apologize in advance. I dont get along with Johns family but I play nice for his sake - with the exception of his sister (43, who we will call "Scum" for the sake of the post). Now, for the first 5 years of my marriage Scum was my best friend. We were inseparable, planned every event together, I stayed at her place often for girls nights, we even worked together. But, back 3 years ago Scum's husband laid hands on my son and bruised his face in 3 spots. He was 6. My husband lost his cool, understandably, and threw hands. Scums husband didnt fight back. He apparently only uses hands on kids, not men his size. Scum took her husbands side, lied to the police about what happened (claiming my son "fell" and my husband assumed the worst and attacked her husband unprovoked) and pressed charges. Despite my son having obvious bruising and him telling police that Scums husband hit him before slamming his face off a wall, the police arrested my husband and not Scums husband. Why? Because Scum was a public defender and held more merit and social status. It was a long legal battle. My husbands charges were dropped, but not a single soul in this area would take on my sons case and ultimately, Scums husband walked free with a protection order against us. The only "family" we have talked to since that point is my MIL, who has continuously tried telling us to just apologize to Scums husband for the sake of family, which we have refused openly - and we have told her not to discuss them in our presence anymore. She seemed to get the hint when we told her we would go no contact with her but apparently she was just scheming. Fast forward to this past weekend. It has been 3 years since this happened and 1 year since charges were dropped and protection order became void. My husband wanted to have a BBQ at our new home. My family could not make it, as they all live out in Florida. So it was mainly just our friends that were invited but my husband invited his mother. Well, MIL shows up here with Scum, Scums 13yo daughter, Scums 23yo step daughter, my husbands aunt (whom used to abuse my husbands brother), my husbands uncle, and the uncles 12yo daughter. I ask my husband why Scum is here and he immediately says "I have no f*cking clue. Probably because of my mother. I will handle it." He didnt handle it. He became a mute. He didnt confront his mother. He didnt say anything when Scum approached us talking about how all of this was a big misunderstanding and could be resolved if we would just apologize and move on. He just stood there. So, I told them all to leave. Calmly at first, but Scum started arguing, saying that all of this was blown out of proportion and that I needed to understand where she was coming from because its her husband and she took vows and how I would "do the same thing" if I were in her shoes. I told her no, if my husband did that I would make him eat sh*t myself and toss him out like garbage and that she was trash. It led to loads of screaming and the police were called by neighbors. I told the police that Scum and her entire family needed to be removed, as they were not invited, trespassing and made a point to tell them WHY they werent welcome around myself or my children. The police (different town than the first incident, so they dont know Scums reputation or social status - which helped) didnt take lightly to the information and ultimately started treating Scum like sh*t and got handsy with her when she started arguing with them. Needless to say I am now being deemed a "problem" and have been accused of intentionally trying to get Scum attacked in front of her children over something that happened years ago, all because I would rather hold a grudge than forgive and move on for the sake of family unity. My husband isnt speaking to me, still, despite it being a week well passed. He says I "should have done as I was told and let him f*cking handle it" because its his family. Edit: I do want to note that my children were not present. This was a vocalized adults only BBQ and my children were with their friends for the night. Was at a work thing that was very tightly scheduled Had to leave early anyway so skipped the catered lunch and went to Hutchins on the way to the airport, the recommended local barbecue spot 40 bucks or so for 1/4 lb brisket, a sausage, 2 sides, and the free dine in dessert banana pudding Brisket was OK, i ate it ,didn't hate it. Why was it kinda dry even though it was very fatty? 5 out of 10 The elote did its thing, creamy, corny, very good, nothing unexpected other than I thought mexican street corn off the cob was called esquites. 6.3 out of 10 Mac and cheese was ass. Noodles with velveeta and bacon bits. On Thursday, I was invited to a family BBQ at my ex-wife’s step-father’s house scheduled for today. I brought BBQ sausages, and prepared a home-made pasta salad and potato salad Being good weather I dressed in summery clothes and shoes, as did my GF who was also invited. When we got there, we were told that we each had to help first - clear the patio of dog mess (my dogs were at home) and then clear a space in the garden so that my ex-wife’s step-father could put a greenhouse there next week. After stating that I wasn’t dressed for yard work, and had just been expecting conversation and drinks/food on the patio, I declined to help. Instantly everyone made it clear to me that I wasn’t wanted if I wasn’t going to help, so myself and my GF left and found a nice country pub for dinner instead. I’ve got back home now and kids of the adults who were there are now calling me names on social media and stating that I’m scared of hard work.
