Fun coincidence: Merlin’s bird of the day was using my bird bath
I saw some unfamiliar yellow birds splashing around and took some photos. I opened Merlin to see that exact bird—which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before—featured as my BotD. I learned that they’re native to parts of Asia but were introduced to my area of California about 20 years ago. Sorry for potato quality; I had to shoot through a window screen in order not to scare them. Separately: these little ones got water everywhere! 😂 submitted by /u/Me_for_President to r/birding [link] [comments]

Ha!! Probably THE least original name ever!
My Mom was a backyard birder. She had binoculars, a bird book and a notebook and would note the arrivals. I used to put out seed and suet but that has become a bit of a task. I do still keep a little heated bird bath so they all have water over the winter.

I created a bee bar! Put some rocks in my bird bath and now I have bees stopping by for a cold drink all day long. ☺️ My garden has leveled up!
One rock seemed to be the VIP area there was always 4-5 bees drinking at once. Makes my heart happy to see them take a little break from our insane heat. They will love the Bee Bar even more when all my sunflowers have bloomed in a month. 🌻❤️My garden my favorite hangout! submitted by /u/missandie2000 to r/gardening [link] [comments]

Best bird bath?
I have the cheap plastic bird bath from Amazon with a solar powered bubbler that doesn’t have a whole lot of water pressure. The birds seem to like it, like this robin here, but they still prefer the gross pot hole puddle in the middle of the street our house is on. A few have been hit by cars so I’m trying to entice them all to hang out here instead. I drove slowly up to it today and stopped waiting for the birds to clear and one house sparrow fledgling hopped closer to the wheels and stared at me with the window down I was like hey little girl that’s not how this works!! Do I need a ground level fountain? Or more moving water? I like that the top screws off so I can give it a good scrub in my basement sink with diluted bleach when I see a finch with conjunctivitis take a dip/sip. But if there is a better design that’s also easy to clean let me know!! Trying to get these birds out of dirty gravel water in the road! submitted by /u/AbolitionFeminist to r/birding [link] [comments]

Birds hate this new bath.
I replaced my old bird bath with this new one and I am lucky if I get 1 or 2 robins a week now. My old bird bath was a regular meet and greet with up to 10 sparrows multiple times daily visiting. The new bath is in the exact same place as the old one and the water level is just under 2". Same as the old one. Any idea why they won't visit this new bath, it has been up for the second summer now and still they won't come. The old bath was made of cement and very heavy, it would require scrubbing out almost daily to keep the algae down, this new one is a resin bath that never gets algae build up. The old one also required me finding help to lift the top back on all the time when raccoon's would knock it off during the night. It just got to be too much. I want my birds back!!! Two pics of the old bath and one pic of the new one. https://preview.redd.it/7gg3x2ij73ed1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8cd97e96869000454e109e21b2583f4bc3a8f83 https://preview.redd.it/d49hi2ij73ed1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71785f9a45ae7ba838be1acaa8e71bd07c224f58 https://preview.redd.it/00rb73ij73ed1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d463039dc50d21d790d2bdcaec83e1228a542a16 submitted by /u/southcityy to r/birding [link] [comments]
