Same for me......as for the plastering issue, last garage I plastered with board, I tacked the DPM back to the wall then put batten and board to the wall, skimmed the tapered edges and called it done, nice thick coat of paint and it looked half decent for someone that can't plaster

RE:Backer boards and external solid walls
My preference, either solid board to wall or if you want to include insulation, batten and board. Having space behind makes running pipework and power etc a lot more straightforward. Hardibacker 12mm with fixings at 200mm centers, scrimmed joints.

RE: house siding options?
I just put on vertical board and batten steel. Had seamless steel before that and the problem is if you get a dent there's no fixing it unless you take the whole side apart. With these panels i can get each one out of needed.
