I wanted to share my first book nook with you! I finished it last week and initially thought the sub didn’t allow pictures (apparently it was discussion week), so I’m really excited that I can share it now. It’s entirely built from scratch. First book nook complete: life purpose found
Edit: Deleted original post and re-posted with pictures. I've recently completed my first DIY book nook. It was a Christmas gift from my husband that ensured he hardly saw me for the rest of the holiday. Since then, I've been lurking on this subreddit to figure out how to do more of this. All the time. Forever. Many lessons learnt on this first one! One of the boards had pegs and holes that didn't fit on all its pieces, so there was a lot of sanding, and the kit's tiny nail file wasn't quite up to the job. Unfortunately the ill-fitting board had many key pieces that affected the whole build. I wish I'd come across a "before you start guide" first, but we live and learn. For my next one (once I can justify the cost), I'd like to create more custom accessories and details. I used to paint on large canvasses and make jewellery, when I had studio space. After moving to a tiny London flat, I've been desperate for a creative outlet that doesn't take up much space. So happy I found one! I loved the complexity and atmosphere of this kit, and the little hidden features like the moving book-basket dial and working lamp. Would have preferred less glue work, but perhaps better glue would make that less arduous. submitted by /u/HalfPriceEasterEgg to r/booknooks [link] [comments]

I just finished my very first book nook - and huge respect to everyone who does that regulary
Wow... that was something. My very first and probably last book nook for now. I love the designs and find them a thousand times more beautiful and practical than regular bookends. But my God - this is exhausting! :p As mentioned in the product details, my father and I expected about 2.5 / 3 hours of assembly time. However, we underestimated the difficulty, especially since we are complete beginners, and ended up spending at least 5 to 6 hours on it, spread out over the entire day. In the end, everything went reasonably well: no broken, no incorrect or lost parts. But something went wrong with the light installation, and the circuit board for the on/off switch is now hanging behind the Book Nook while the switch at the front is just decoration lmaoo. However, it was extremely fun to build and, despite minor flaws, it still looks beautiful in the end! Great respect to everyone who pursues this hobby regularly !!! :0 submitted by /u/MistyStepMaster to r/booknooks [link] [comments]

All my completed book nooks:)
Just found this subreddit after finishing my 6th book nook so thought I'd share:) Names of kits in picture order with looks rating & notes (all from Amazon): Beyond library max (A+, some plastic parts broke way too easily but the company sent me replacements. The globe light is blinding so I folded a bit of paper into a V shape to sit in front of the light bulb) Library of the gods max (A+, I had to glue the edge of the front ceiling piece to the roof to keep it rounded, and the books have to be slightly spaced to fill the shelves nicely) Baroque manor (A, 15 books were missing. Front lighting was weird so I rerouted it to be in the fireplace by carving a notch in the floor panel) Sailing memory (B, the frame pieces are warped. I recommend covering the front light with folded paper to make the light softer) Elf stargaze (D, too fake looking but I like the glass galaxy ball) Bookshop memories (F, ugly so I customized it.. still kinda ugly lol) submitted by /u/gramplolo to r/booknooks [link] [comments]

Warning: not all book nook kits are the same!
This might be my first DNF ( did not finish). I bought this kit and this would’ve been my fifth book nook. I knew something was gonna be slightly off with this kit when I realized that none of the wood pieces actually snapped together and fit snuggly. Everything needs to be glued together. My second red flag was none of the cutouts have adhesive on them so not only am I cutting them out lined by line but I have to glue them together . In other book nook kits the sticker was already pre-cut and what I had to adhere it to was pretty straightforward: peel and stick. In the third thing, that’s really making me DNF, this kit is literally nothing but creating at least 50 to 60 of these little books, see my photos of the instructions. There seems to be very little structure making or furniture making, on every single page of the instruction book 70% of my time is making these little booklets. Again, this would be fine if it was peel and stick, but it’s so cumbersome to have to cut out everything. Sorry guys this is just my little rant. I don’t know for sure if I won’t finish. I might push through it, but this is definitely the first book nook where I’m not necessarily having fun. submitted by /u/Walle-Wonka to r/booknooks [link] [comments]
