I just realized I’m paying $3,000 to move a couch that’s worth $400.
I am currently sitting in the middle of my living room, surrounded by half packed boxes, having a complete existential crisis. I just got the final quote from the movers for my cross-country relocation. After they factored in the "stair fee," the "long carry fee," and the "we know you’re desperate fee," it’s going to cost me three grand. I looked at my IKEA sectional which has a mysterious permanent coffee stain and a 15% chance of collapsing if you sit down too fast and realized I am literally paying for its premium first-class travel. Why am I like this? Why am I paying to ship 12 boxes of "cables I might need one day" and a collection of souvenir mugs from 2018? I’m half tempted to just leave the keys in the door, walk away with nothing but my laptop and my dignity, and start a new life as a minimalist monk in my new city. Instead, I’ll probably just buy more bubble wrap and cry into a roll of packing tape. submitted by /u/Jinnapat397 to r/movingout [link] [comments]

First time wrapping my car — got this full roll. Any tips? (2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T)
So I just picked up this wrap off Marketplace for 150 CAD. It’s a full roll and the exact color I wanted (gloss ice blue). I’ve never wrapped a car before in my life, but I want to try doing my 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T. I have a friend coming to help, but he’s never done anything like this either. I’ve already bought: • Clay bar to smooth out the surface • A full wrap kit (squeegee, knife, edge tools, wrap cutter, etc.) My car does have a few bumps and scratches, so I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do at home to smooth those out before wrapping—without having to pay a body shop crazy money. Any DIY tips for minor imperfections? I also don’t really know what brand this wrap is, so I’m not sure what I’m getting myself into lol. Any beginners who’ve done a full wrap — what should I watch out for? Any tips for prepping, heating, stretching, or avoiding bubbles/creases? Also… is 150 CAD for a full roll a decent deal, or did I accidentally buy the worst type of wrap? 😅 Any advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/Altruistic_Check_944 to r/CarWraps [link] [comments]

I want subways - we have subways at home
After months of trial and error, I finally nailed the perfect soft-but-sturdy sub roll and turned it into the best cold Italian sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Everything is made from scratch except the cured meats and cheese. One sandwich (full 12-inch version) clocks in at roughly 900 kcal and 60 g protein. Half is perfect for maintenance/deload days.Sourdough Sub Rolls (makes 6 large 12-inch rolls) Ingredients 150 g active 100 % hydration sourdough starter (fed and bubbly) 30 g honey 375 g water (room temp) 45 g olive oil 750 g bread flour 15 g salt Instructions Mix starter, sugar, and water until dissolved. Add oil, then flour and salt. Mix to a shaggy dough. Cover and rest 60 minutes. Perform 4–5 sets of stretch & folds, 30–45 minutes apart, until the dough is smooth and strong. Bulk ferment in a warm spot until increased ~50–70 % (usually 3–4 hours). Divide into 6 × ~225 g pieces. Pre-shape into balls, rest 15 min, then shape into tight 10–12 inch logs. Final proof (covered) until puffy and a gentle poke springs back slowly (45–90 min). Preheat oven to 200 °C / 392 °F with steam. Egg wash, slash lengthwise, sprinkle with oregano/garlic/Parmesan if desired. Bake 25–30 minutes until lightly golden. Brush hot rolls with melted butter. Cool completely. Macros per full baked roll (~180–190 g) ≈ 590 kcal | 17 g protein | 100 g carbs | 12 g fat The Italian Sub aka The Subussy LOL (per full sandwich) Ingredients (per sandwich) 1 freshly baked sub roll 40 g mortadella 40 g hot capicola (or sweet) 40 g genoa salami 30 g light provolone or swiss 20–25 g “Dagwood” sauce (recipe below) Handful of arugula Dagwood Sauce (makes a big batch) 100 g light mayo 100 g golden Italian dressing 30 g yellow mustard 20 g red wine vinegar 20 g olive oil Garlic powder, dried oregano, black pepper to taste Shake in a bottle – keeps weeks. Assembly Split roll, spread both cut sides generously with sauce, layer meats and cheese, pile on veggies, close, wrap tight in parchment + foil. Let it sit in the fridge at least a few hours (ideally overnight) – the flavors meld and the bread softens perfectly. Macros – full 12-inch sandwich ≈ 900 kcal ≈ 60 g protein ≈ 85 g carbs ≈ 40 g fat Half sandwich (perfect for maintenance/deload) ≈ 450 kcal | 30 g protein Notes Rolls freeze beautifully. Half sandwich + normal meals keeps me right at maintenance on deload weeks while still feeling like I’m cheating. Full sandwich is an absolute weapon when I’m in a hard surplus. Enjoy. These have legitimately become my favorite meal of the week. How reddit changed my life
Hi y'all, this is me, the Sundarban honey girl. First of all, hugely grateful to everyone who trusted me and ordered. I couldn't have asked for a better pujo than this. It's like as if Maa Durga came down and told me that I can handle a business all by myself. So many orders rolled in, my friends helped in packing, it was overwhelming to say the least. I was going to the post office daily, speed posting 7-8 orders a day, what a feeling! Now coming to the part where I'd like to share something about what happened in the past month, my account got temporarily banned, due to it exceeding the dm limit. When people told me that their family members, elders liked it and ordered again in bigger quantity, the experience was surreal. My second biggest achievement was getting orders, biggest will always be getting repeat orders! All of it could have happened because of you people who trusted me, a small business. There were even times when orders spilled and I had to resent them cause to me I couldn't afford to break the trust for a first time buyer. But I don't want to advertise myself as a woman in business or a small business, I want people to order because of the quality of my products, because at the end of the day it's all that matters ain't it? You all also advised and suggested me on a few things, so here are the actions that I've taken so far: Changed from india post to shiprocket because a few of you complained that indiapost mishandles products. I started using bubble wrap instead of honeycomb paper to pack it better. Few of you wanted to have COD option so it is now available on the Website. I also got quite a number of dms to include tulsi honey in the website so now it is available. Just need an advice now, some of you enquired about mustard honey do you want me to avail it? Since by nature the honey crystallizes it is considered as impure hence most of it is exported to US and UK. My website is : Sundarban Royals farm. If you want to place order directly or just have a query feel free to dm me, I'd be happy to help! submitted by /u/rouirouigo to r/smallbusinessindia [link] [comments]

She thought I was working that day. I was-just not at that store.
This is pretty complicated so sorry it’s going to be long. TLDR at the bottom. In the early years of being a pharmacist, jobs in my city were hard to come by. I managed to get full time hours by working for a couple of pharmacist friends at both of their stores. They would work out my schedule together and put an X on my schedule on the days I was at the opposing store. One store was downtown and one was in the suburb I lived in. At the suburb pharmacy I had a coworker “Dee” who could just not wrap her brain around the fact that if there was an X by my name I was in fact working… just at the other store. Multiple times I would have call after call on my cell phone and hang ups on my answering machine at home because she wanted me to cover her shift at the suburb store when I was already working downtown. Worst thing was my cell phone charged me for every single call so after the second time of her pulling this I would get downtown and immediately pull the battery off my phone. This made her angry at me for “ignoring” her and we had a tepid relationship after that. Time went on and the suburb store started expanding their nursing home operation so I was able to work there full time instead. I still had a great relationship with the downtown store and they had me keep the keys in case of emergencies. They would occasionally come up and the X would be on the schedule by my name. Sadly Dee became the assistant manager and now thought she was “the boss” of me. Now downtown pharmacist’s daughter was getting married and suburb pharmacist was invited to all the festivities. I got scheduled to work the Thursday before at the downtown store. The X went by my name on the suburb schedule. I was also going to the wedding -I was good friends with the daughter but missing the Mendhi party on the Thursday I was working for her mum. I was on the phone with her on my break one time and she was saying how sorry she was I was missing it and I said “don’t worry I’ll just doodle brown sharpie all over my hands and pretend I was there when we aren’t busy”. Now at that exact week we were getting new pharmacy software downloaded. Nursing homes are run on a batch system where all the labels are run about 5 days before and then all the bubble packs are made up during that time and then the actual billing is done on the Thursday for the meds to be delivered Friday. Dee decided that she did not want the batch to be done and just wanted everything to be processed and made up on the Thursday for just this first week. My technician was freaking out so I just told her to make up the usual drug cards (Lipitor, aspirin 81, multivitamin, Altace etc) without any patient data just to help speed things along. Dee overheard and told the tech that she wasn’t allowed to do that and “this younger generation is just scared of hard work”. I panicked a bit because I was the only one of my age (gen X) as all my coworkers were boomer aged or older. I went and checked the schedule… yep there’s an X by my name…. I won’t be there for the sh*tshow but somehow Dee thinks I am? Why should I tell her any different. Thursday rolls around and at 12:30 my cell phone starts blowing up. It’s in my purse in the safe because I don’t get a lunch break (only pharmacist) and everyone can hear it. Out comes the battery. I get home after work and there’s screaming and swearing on my answering machine. A locum pharmacist worked the morning shift and wasn’t instructed to do anything so everything was left for Dee when she arrived at 12:30. She had to work late to finish over 500 prescription drug cards. I come in the next day and she’s still furious. “You said you were working! I heard you talking about the effing mendhi thing”. I told her I was working just not at that store as evidenced by the X by my name. I learned then that she could eavesdrop on the break room from one place in the pharmacy when she herself was the only pharmacist working at the time. All my breaks were taken in my car after this. TLDR Co-worker tried to make my day absolutely hell by trying to make me do 5 days of work in one day…. a day that I wasn’t working so she had to do it. submitted by /u/PrestigiousPromise20 to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

LEGO Bubble Wrap (declined LEGO Ideas Submission 🤷)
"Is this a joke?", you may ask. But hear me out! After all those years, when you are trying to come up with something original on LEGO Ideas, you really have to think outside of the box. And what is outside of the box? Right! Bubble Wrap! At least when you care about preserving the pristine condition of your sealed LEGO sets. Just think about it: This could be the first LEGO Set that is not delivered inside its box, but wrapped around it. This way, the set box - as we all know the most important part of any LEGO set - would be protected from any harm forever. Revolutionary! Jokes aside, I deeply believe that human society has peaked with the invention of bubble wrap. Or have you ever seen another product that can be so useful and relaxing at the same time? The only other one I could think of is the LEGO brick. Bubble Wrap and LEGO. Time to bring those two icons of human craftsmanship together in an ultimate monument! My project idea contains one small roll of bubble wrap. This could work as a great present for almost anybody: A beloved friend, a retiring colleague... or anyone who wants to add a little extra to a package they send. submitted by /u/munft to r/legocirclejerk [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my husband we’re headed for divorce?
My husband and I have always been great at discussing our hurt feelings and moving forward together with consideration. He’s a mental health counsellor and I volunteer at a domestic abuse service so we’re both very comfortable and familiar with using kind language to discuss hard things. I have adhd and part of that includes sensory processing issues. My biggest challenge is overwhelming sounds, like if the tv is on and some in watching on their phone and the dog is barking it makes me feel like my brain is itchy and I can’t scratch it and it consumes my thoughts. I know I’m better at handling it than I used to but I’m not perfect, sometimes I still need complete quiet to recover. Today after dropping our son off at school together we both got back home. The morning had been chaotic and noisy and the school was busy and stressful too as there was a fundraiser on the playground today. The moment I sat down I wrapped myself in a blanket with my dog and started trying to wind down again. Usually when I do this my husband is starting work upstairs but today he started a little later. When he joined me I said “I’m just taking a few minutes to calm down ‘cause school was crazy” and he said okay. He played on his phone at the same time of clicking the tv on. His phone started a comedy video on full volume while YouTube on the tv started a gamer video. He snapped open a can of coke, chugged it and burped so loud. Then with the remaining little bubbles popping in the can were down my ear and the clashing videos with the applause on the comedy video and the screaming excited gamer, I obviously felt worse and my sensory issues were not improving because my routine was interrupted. I shook the can to pop the remaining bubbles, lowered the tv volume and asked him (with frustration in my voice) “can you please lower your phone volume or go to up work or something?” To which he rolled his eyes and said “I’m not arguing with you” with no intention to do anything about the noise. After about 10 seconds I said “(name) please, the noise is too much and I can’t calm down” to which he rolled his eyes and tutted, repeated himself “I’m not getting into an argument with you!…” and leaned away. Feeling ignored, I got up and went out to the kitchen and got a drink of water, and he followed me with his phone. When he tried to hug me from behind (phone in hand) I took this as him antagonising me, rather than apologetic how he probably meant it, since he had decided to ignore my request for quiet. I shook him off me and walked away again, calling behind me “keep rolling your eyes and not listening to me and not arguing with me and in 5 years all our stresses will have built up and we’ll just get a divorce instead of talking to each other” All of a sudden he’s hurt and I’m the bad guy, whereas I feel like I was pushed to say something that would grab his attention. I don’t think you can act the way he has and expect someone to tolerate you, when they’ve expressed their needs clearly, married or not. So, am I the asshole for jumping to divorce after my needs being ignored? EDIT: the bedroom is also the office, he needed that space shortly so I was in the most appropriate space to take my time to regulate, and I could have done that if my husband had been mindful after I told him what I needed. Anyone with ADHD knows what it’s like to be disregulated, and while I’m not medicated (and dont need to be) I implemented my coping strategies as I always do which is the only course of action. EDIT 2: For everyone concerned about his drink, he had finished it. I shook the empty can so that the last few drops would stop popping in the now empty can. He enjoyed the whole can. Also for those of you who think it’s a communication issue, unfortunately my husband is not telepathic (bummer right?) so as soon as you suggest a better way to articulate myself other than using plain language like I already did, I’ll take it into consideration UPDATE: Rather than sit and annoy each other I went for a walk and to do some errands (yet another strategy I executed to give us time and space). He has since text me and apologised, explaining that he didn’t mean to be antagonistic (as I already knew) and that he didn’t understand the gravity of my needs in that moment. I also apologised for tempting fate bringing up divorce, even though he admitted he knows it’s not really something I’m considering. WIBTA for divorcing my husband to get more "me time"?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Prestigious-Rip-1343 WIBTA for divorcing my husband to get more "me time"? Originally posted to r/AITAH TRIGGER WARNING: Emotional abuse and manipulation Original Post Oct 1, 2023 My husband (40M) and I (39F) have been married for 12 years, together for 13. We are in a wonderful marriage, overall. However, I typically end up with the brunt of housework, cooking, errands, laundry, and early morning wake up with the youngest of our two boys (6M, 13M) even on Saturdays and Sundays. I also spend a lot of time cleaning up behind my husband because he "forgets" to do things. Because of this, I usually end up with almost no free time, and I never get to be the one who sleeps in. A lot of the things he "forgets" are small things like leaving shoes out in the walkway, or leaving the lint from the lint trap on top of the dryer instead of throwing it away, or continuing to put trash in an already full trashcan, used glasses left out instead of brought to the sink, used wash rags left on the shower floor, etc. It sounds petty, but over time, all these little things are a lot of time out of my life cleaning up after a grown up, when I'm already cleaning up after two non-grown ups. I own a business and am working on my degree on top of all of this, so I have very little "spare time" as it is. He, on the other hand, works from home, and is able to sleep in, take nap breaks, play video games on his lunch break, and takes an hour or two every evening while I study to play video games again to "decompress". He does give me time to go to the gym or run, but I've been skipping it more and more to try to keep up with the mess and chores at home. When I bring it up, he says I'm being unfair because I'm focusing on the "few times" he forgets to pick up after himself, and not seeing all the things he does do. He does clean up after himself about 50% of the time, depending on what it is. But, somethings he legitimately never does, like leaving lint on the dryer or throwing away used toilet paper rolls. He also suffers from a sleep disorder, which can make a person feel "foggy" sometimes. He says I should be more compassion with him and accept this as a part of loving someone with chronic illness.. The truth is that I DO understand what chronic illness is like and I do have compassion. I myself have been living with chronic pain and fatigue for years, and am finally undergoing the diagnostic and treatment process for lupus and RA. I'm always in pain and constantly exhausted. But, I muscle through and maintain a reasonable level of order and sanitation in my home because that's what adults do for their kids. I don't have the luxury to "forget" to do important things like laundry, dishes, or cleaning, because then no one does it. He also says I have an unreasonably high standard of cleanliness. Really, I feel like not wanting to leave urine stains around the base of the toilet or leaving used dishes and food on counters in an area notorious for roaches is not having a "high" standard. I feel like his standards are lower than the average adult, as most people would find that pretty gross. One of the things my journey through AID has taught me is to learn to say "no". Although I love my husband and best friend dearly, I dont see this ever changing unless he is literally forced. I am starting to feel like taking myself out of the equation is the best option to maintain my own sanity by having one less person to clean up after, and find some much needed down time through shared custody. Even if he only had the kids on one day a week. I feel like custody sharing might force him to hold himself to a reasonable standard of hygiene and cleanliness, too. I definitely enable his laziness out of necessity to met basic safe levels of cleanliness. Without me there, he'd have to learn to be consistent or risk losing visitation. This is my only complaint within the marriage. We really do love and care for each other, and he's emotionally very kind and supportive. I love him very much. WIBTA for divorcing over this? Update for INFO: 1)Yes. We have talked about it. A LOT. We have the same fight at least once every other week for over a decade. 2)We tried counseling. Nothing changed. Even after our therapist told him that even though he was loving and supportive, resentment was a marriage killer. She suggested a maid service. 3) He does not want to spend money on a cleaning service. I would love to have weekly cleanings. I was able to talk him into one cleaning per month. I am working on increasing my earning potential so I can afford it myself. 4)Yes, he does have diagnosed ADHD. I feel like this is a potential "explanation not excuse" thing, though. 5)I know divorce is expensive, but I have a very supportive family and am very close to expanding my business and attaining degrees that would allow me to be autonomous. That being said, we care a lot about each other, parent well together, and have a lot that we've built together. Update for current situation: We fought about, I ended up ugly crying (partially out of frustration and partially bc I'd been up since 4:45am with the youngest. I told him that it was about lint on the washer and used toilet rolls on the sink, but not really. I said that I felt like he didn't listen nor care to try. We apologized, wrapped me up in our duvet and left me to nap while he took over housework and kids (He is really sweet and does try). It's been nice to have a day off, but I'm still skeptical because this isn't the first time I've gotten to a point of walking away or being really upset, and he is extra nice for a while only to go right back to being his old self in a few days. I guess we'll see. Update Oct 6, 2023 Hello all. Where to even begin. First, I want to thank everyone who chimed in. It really helped me feel validated in my frustration and process it. So after the melt down the day of the last post, he did as promised and took over the housework and kids for the day. However, as I feared, by the next day, he had returned to his old, dismissive, chauvinistic self. He did zero housework for the rest of the week and picking up the slack ended up putting me in a position of unpreparedness for a very important test due tomorrow. This is his usual M.O. He puts in effort just long enough to make me think he has changed then he reverts. Starting Sunday, I reminded him frequently that I needed time to study. It's a math test and it's hard. So, my plan was to study two hours per day and be prepared by Friday. This meant he would need to pick up at least a little slack giving baths, reading bedtime stories, ect so I could focus. Except it didn't happen. So, I ended up using the time I needed to study to cook, clean, and do laundry Now it's late on the eve of the test and I'vehad all of 1 hour of study time. I'm exhausted and I can't even fathom practicing proportions or quadratic equations right now. I broke down out of frustration and told him I couldn't handle it anymore. I run my business, bust my butt in school, and keep everything running. It's a major unfair burden and I'm tired of trying to make him care. I asked him how it was that he could treat his female coworkers as equals and not extend that same respect to me. He admitted to being a hypocrite and stormed off to play video games. Right now I'm contemplating taking Incompletes for the semester so I can focus on my business and weather a messy divorce from a giant man baby. RELEVANT COMMENTS RanbomGUID Like for a weekend? You will have pests overrunning your home within a weekend if you prioritized your studies over cleaning? And your husband would happily allow your home to be overrun with pests?? OOP replied Because of the way my courses are structured, I have to study both some weeknights and on weekends. Yes. The home we bought is a century home being renovated in a neighborhood where roaches move in VERY quickly. Certain species live outdoors, but come in at night if they smell food, and unless you live in a vacuum seal bubble, they find ways in (even through water pipes). Those are the thumb sized ones that jump and fly. We have managed thus far to avoid indoor dwelling varieties like German roaches through keeping counters and dishes clean, keeping laundry off the floor, and taking the trash out every night. My husband liked to pop bubble wrap.
‘Pop! Pop!’ “Honey…” I groaned, “It’s really late. I have to get up for work in the morning.” “Huh!” Manny grumbled. He was popping bubble wrap in bed again, “Sorry, Mel. I’ll try and be quieter.” ‘Pop! Pop!’ He was still too noisy, but I let it go: he had recently lost his job. Manny used to work in a warehouse, packaging boxes to be delivered. It was going fine until he was fired. He told me it was because the bubble wrap in the deliveries he sent was all ‘popped’. Even though they repeatedly told him not to pop the bubble wrap in his packages, he still couldn’t help himself. He had been unemployed for a few days. It had been 5 years since we married and we still had a strong relationship. We were both on our way to our mid-30s and considering having children. We were the odd couple. We were ‘Manny and Mel’. It’s how the locals always saw us: always together. I remember the first time we fell in love: I was the one who fancied him. He was cute, with bright brown hair and brilliant blue eyes. I still love him. And I really miss him. Manny was awkward. He was different. Not the bad kind of different: he was just peculiar. He always saw the world in a different light from everybody else. He wasn’t a genius by any means: he was just unique. And he was kind, kinder than any other man I had ever met. He wasn’t lonely either. He could have lived a life of solitude, but he struggled to socialise. I think that made us work well together, I was the social front of our relationship and he was the deep thinker. He had his quirks, but they never really stopped him until he was fired. Of course, Manny’s most notable quirk was his strange obsession with popping bubble wrap. Yet, some people found it odd, but I always thought it was normal. If you knew him, you would understand. And who doesn’t like popping bubble wrap? Everyone does, even me. Manny just enjoyed it more than everyone else. And he was never ashamed to admit it. I thought that was really bold of him. I still did find it annoying occasionally, but I could look past it. You’d be surprised how many people judged him for it. The next day, I returned from work. Manny was outside our flat, fumbling around with 5 person-sized rolls of bubble wrap. I was just as surprised as I was pissed off. Where the fuck would we keep them: we live in a flat? I stomped up to Manny, who was trying to pick up two rolls at once, “Well?!” “Ok, Mel, hear me out.” he stammered, “It may look like I splashed 120 quid on bubble wrap, but I got them at a reduced price.” “No, that’s not the fucking issue: you told me that your ‘hobby’ wouldn’t grow out of control. Plus, where the hell will we keep all this.” “Oh come on, we can easily squeeze it all in the laundry room.” “The laundry room!” I yelled, my voice squeaking, “Ok, how much did you spend?” “About 12 quid,” he said, sounding cooler this time. I could not deny how cheap that was for 100 metre-long bubble wrap. “Oh, o-ok. Was there some bargain sale for bubble wrap going on then?” “Well, you see, the thing is.” He seemed to lower his voice, as though he knew some government secret, “While I was looking for a new job, I found this website that sells bubble wrap at a reduced price. It was called ‘Bob’s Bubble Wrap’ or somethin’. I’ll send you the link on Whatsapp.” He got out his phone and a few seconds later my phone ‘dings’. While he lumbered the bubble wrap into the flat, I tried using the link. ‘This site can’t be reached’. “Manny, this link does not work.” “W-what?” he said mid-way to our laundry room. I repeated myself “This link, it doesn’t work.” “Are you sure?” I tried it again, but it still didn’t come up with anything. “Yeah, I’m sure.” “Gimme a sec,” he dumped the roll in the hallway and came over, “May I have a look?” I looked at him with a slack jaw. I sarcastically said “Well ok, Mr Tech-genious! I don’t know how you gonna magically make it work, but go ahead!” He took the phone from me “Well, the link worked for me, so I don’t see why it shouldn't for you.” “Of course, the link only works for you.” Like any other person, I do not like being told how to use my phone. Manny did this every time he thought I was being technologically incapable. I guess it was another one of his quirks: being shrewd as fuck. “Here,” he said as he passed it back. It worked. My phone showed what looked like an early 2000s webpage. “Wait, what did you do?!” “I just used the link,” he said as he backed up towards his rolls of bubble wrap. I looked at the site on my phone: it was the strangest site I had ever seen. The title read ‘Bob’s Bubble Wrap for Poppin’’. It sounded like it was written by Ned Flanders. I read the description: ‘Have you ever been a wonderin’ why the world uses bubble wrappin’ for deliverin’ and not a poppin’? Well, my goal in life is to try an’ make bubble wrap to pop for all bubble wrap enthusiast's hearts desirin’. No strings attached! An’ everythin’ on here is as low a pricin’ you’d ever gettin’. 10% the usual pricin’! Buy now!’ Like, what? What is this description? How is this site selling this shit to anyone – excluding my husband? This just made me laugh. Anyway, I decided to look at some of his products. He wasn’t lyin’, it only sold bubble wrap. From widths of 300mm by 100m up to 1500mm by 100m: my husband had gotten 5 rolls of the latter, obviously. He also sold them in all the colours of the rainbow. Thank gods Manny only got plain white: the other colours look childish. It seemed so pointless, a whole site just for buying bubble wrap. It smelled funny, but what harm could it bring? I read the disclaimer at the bottom but only remembered it later. I regret that now. I approached Manny, he had just laid the rolls of bubble wrap out on the floor of the laundry room. “How did you pay for this: did you buy it in-store or…” “No, they must have delivered it here.” “You mean for free?” “Hmm,” he grunted credulously, “I guess so.” I did not ask how he paid for the bubble wrap itself. “Thank gods you weren’t scammed, you numpty!” I said with a hint of annoyance, “I hope it was worth it: now you have plenty of bubble wrap at least.” “Yep, this should keep me going for a while,” he said stretching his arms and groaning. He then lay back across the bubble wrap, feeling its bouncy consistency. “Ahh! Can you imagine what sex would be like on this stuff?” “W-w-what?!” I said, giggling. Sometimes, my husband would say the most random and funny-as-shit of things. “Are you for real?!” He just gave a look that screamed: ‘Ya betcha’, I am!’ I laughed out loud at this, “Come on, let’s watch some Netflix.” I’ll leave you to guess whether we had sex on the bubble wrap bed or not. A couple of weeks later, with nothing of note happening. Manny remained unemployed and I kept our boat afloat. So scratch what I said earlier about him being capable of living by himself: ‘living a life of solitude’. He would most definitely sink without me. I was talking with Jane, one of our neighbours. We did this every time we would run into each other outside the flat, more out of politeness than shared interest as you do. She was talking about one of the neighbour’s cats that usually visit her: “You know Mel: the one that keeps bringing me presents.” she prodded. “Oh, you mean… What was its name? Connie.” I suggested. “That's right, Connie. Unfortunately, I heard she died recently,” she said sadly. I was not surprised: pets die all the time. Yet, I still acted sad, “Ohh. What a shame.” “Well, yes.” She dawned on the face she puts on before gossiping, “They apparently found her a bloody mess and almost unidentifiable, except for her colour.” I frowned, “So, she was killed by someone?” “Perhaps, but they could not tell. When they got a veterinary to look at her, the veterinary couldn’t say how she died. But, rumour has it: she looked like she… exploded!” I let out a short laugh and then enquired: “What?!” Jane chuckled as well, “I know: exploded! Cats don’t spontaneously explode, do they?! I don’t really believe that. Who is to say how she died? I don’t know where that rumour came from.” “It sure sounds way too steep to me.” She then lowers her voice back to her normal volume, “Ohh. I will miss her. It wasn’t long ago she brought me a scrap of bubble wrap. It is probably from your husband’s collection.” I just nodded at this. “How is Manny at the moment, anyway?” “Oh, good, good. Still looking for work: he hasn’t given up yet.” The conversation rambled off from there. It was not too long before Manny started changing. I was walking past the bathroom one morning when I heard it. ‘Pop! Pop!’ Manny was in the bathroom: it sounded like he was popping his bubble wrap in there. This was very unusual of him. Plus, the ‘popping’ noise didn’t sound the same: it sounded wetter. ‘Pop! Pop! Pss!’ Then he made a pained noise. “Nghh…” It was like he was trying to repress the sound. If something was wrong, I knew he wouldn’t make a fuss unless he knew it was serious. “Honey!” I called “Are you alright?” With a sudden stir, he yelps “I’m fine.” “Are you sure?” “I’m good. I just hurt myself, like an idiot.” “Well, ok.” I moved on. Later, I noticed loads of plasters (band-aids: if you’re an American) from our medical cabinet had been used. The packaging had been crumpled: as though Manny had desperately scooped them out of the box. He was lying down on the sofa popping more bubble wrap, “Have you been using the plasters? Almost all of them have been used up.” I knew he had, but I felt he needed to admit to using them. He looked towards me slowly and robotically said “Yes. I accidentally cut myself.” “Multiple times?” “No. I just didn’t apply a few of them properly at first.” I looked sternly at him, “How did you cut yourself?” “It’s a bit embarrassing, but I think I did it on the bubble wrap.” “Oh, really?” I had felt the bubble wrap (and maybe popped some of it), though it didn’t seem too sharp. If anything, it was soft and cushioned. Still, I had no real reason not to believe him. So I decided it wasn’t worth interrogating him. Then, suddenly, it got a lot worse. The evening news was on, and Manny got up to get something from the kitchen. But, he seemed to trip. It was not the sound of him falling to the ground that made me come over: it was the pain he sounded like he was in. He was whining like a hurt deer. “Are you alright?” I said as I made my way to him. Though, I didn’t need him to respond, as I saw the droplets of blood on the floor just behind him, “Gosh! Your bleeding!” “I’m alright!” he spat feebly, “I a… I… just cut my heel.” “Let me have a look!” I lifted up his foot before he could respond: there was an inch-long tear on the bottom of his foot. It definitely was not cut: it looked too jagged. I looked him in the face, “This isn’t a cut. It looks like you grazed your heel somehow. Did you tread on something?” “Urr… umm.” He had given me a look that told me he did not want me to know. I knew he didn’t want me to worry about him, but I needed to know what was wrong. “Ok, what is going on?! You look like you’re hurting and you won’t tell me why!” I gave him a severe look, “Please, we’re partners. Tell me what’s happening.” Manny looked back at me, and I could immediately tell he felt what I felt: worry and confusion. “I’m sorry.” he said, “It’s just I don’t really know. Honestly. Just… Look.” He took his shirt off, exposing his chest and arms. I couldn’t explain it: they didn’t look like cuts or tears. His skin was inflating: not like a balloon, but more like bubbles. They only occupied his left breast and his left arm. They formed in patterns: each a few centimetres from the other in chequered formation. They looked like worts, just without the infected look. His skin stretched with the growths, making them look pale and almost transparent. More than anything, they made his skin look like bubble wrap. The bubbles, under the peeling away plasters, on his arm looked similarly damaged to his heel. As I noticed this, I realised that his skin hadn’t been cut or torn, but had been burst. “Wha- Wha- Are you-” I stuttered, now hyperventilating, “Are- Are you having some kind of… reaction?” “I don’t fucking know!” he said, anger and fear now very present in his voice, “I don’t know what is happening! My skin started… doing this yesterday. It- They just keep coming back! No matter how many times I pop them! And nothing but air comes out of them when I do. My… my arms are numb and-” He suddenly flinched at the sudden movement of one of the bubbles on his arm. They were fucking growing! He raised his other hand to pinch one of the bigger ones. At first, I didn’t think he would: it was the size of a marble. But, then he just… ‘Pop-, ss-, blop!’ I don’t know how to describe the sound. It popped, hissed like a deflating balloon and spat out blood. He then did it again: to the next one along. And then again. I just watched him for a few seconds in confusion. As I looked at him: I recognised his expression. It was the same satisfied look he wore while popping his fucking bubble wrap. Just this time, slightly pained. Then, I figured he was not doing it out of necessity, but compulsion. “Stop!” I yelled, reaching for his right arm. I held it away from the bubbles, “Don’t! You’ll make it worse!” He kept trying to pull his arm towards the bubbles while pushing me away. His compulsion was too strong. It was only then I heard his breath: it was starting to struggle. Like he was choking on a new potato or something. He bent forward suddenly to try and choke it up, yet was completely unsuccessful. “Hold on! Breathe!” I pleaded while he weighed down on me, “Just hold on! I- We-” I finally came to my senses: I needed to phone an ambulance. “Wait here! I’ll call 999!” It pained me to leave him in that awful state, but I needed to get my phone. It was on the coffee table. I picked it up and called an ambulance. “Emergency, which service?” the operator had boomed. Everything after that was a blur. I remember sobbing wildly into the phone while the handler desperately tried to understand what was happening. The paramedics came and delivered Manny to A&E. I only became aware of my surroundings again when I started to calm down. I was in the hospital corridor when the doctor came to me, “Mrs Watts?” “Yes?!” I spoke up with confidence, “Is Manny alright?” He looked at me with an expression which meant bad news, “He is alright. He is still struggling to breathe, but…” he paused, “We are still trying everything we can to stabilise him.” “What’s wrong with him?!” I asked. “We… don’t exactly know. We first thought it was Anaphylaxis, but… now we think it is… Air Embolism.” “Air embolism?” He then started using a lot of medical jargon, so I will try and explain it to the best of my ability. Air Embolism, he explained, is when air gets into the bloodstream, blocking it and causing blood vessel blockage. To make it easier to understand, it is like that one scene from Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure when Kira, the antagonist from Part 4, is attacked by Stray Cat. Stray Cat puts an air bubble into Kira’s arm, causing blood vessel blockage. As it said in the anime, if Kira did not remove the air bubble, it would make its way to his heart: killing him in minutes. Why was my husband still alive then? That was what the doctor couldn’t figure out. Instead of the air in Manny’s blood travelling to his heart, it was collecting in his bloodstream, creating bubbles on his skin. “My current theory,” he said, “Is that some unknown force is taking the oxygen out of his blood cells and amassing bubbles in random places in his bloodstream. We still can’t figure out why they are in organised patterns. Or why it is happening at all, but we will do everything we can to find out. If we keep the bubbles forming in his bloodstream small, we can at least keep his blood circulation stable.” “So, what's causing him to choke?” “Well, from what we can tell, a big one started forming in his throat.” he stared at me gloomily, “If we don’t do something about it, he could suffocate. But if we pop the bubble, he may bleed to death. Our options are limited.” I teared up when he said this. I didn’t want him to die. “Can I see him?” The doctor nodded and he showed me to Manny’s room. Manny looked even worse than before. The growths were now all over his back and front. The biggest was the size of his fists: they made him look like he had tumours growing under his hospital gown. They were all in the same pattern, the bigger ones pushing the smaller ones out of the way. And even then, I could still see him popping the smaller ones around his belly. I grabbed his hand gently and eased it to my chest. “Manny…” I cried, “What is happening to you?” All he could do was croak some short sounds under his oxygen mask, “I… Mes… up…” “It’s not your fault. They will fix you. They will…” I put his hand on my forehead, wishing for a miracle that would never come. The bubble in his throat, now visible and the largest, bulged as it grew a few more inches. He gasped as his throat closed up even tighter. “Manny!” I pleaded, “Breathe… Please, breathe…” “Co…me… clo…ser…” I put my ear right beside his mouth, “What is it?” “I…” he coughed once more before finishing, “ I… lo…ve… you…” I will never forget what he did next. Instantaneously, he pulled his hand back and crushed the bubble in his throat. ‘Bang!’ Blood splashed onto my face, dousing me in the stuff. It gurgled from his mouth while spluttering out garbled noises as it flooded down his jaw in pints. And the fear on his face. I think he wanted it to be a graceful way out of this world, but his face only told me how utterly scared he was. His eyelids were glued to the tops of his eye sockets and his mouth opened wide in an inaudible, bloody scream. Everyone else moved around me: the doctors and nurses pushed me out of the way. Someone was pulling me away from him. I don’t know who, but I didn’t resist. I was deaf to all of the noise in the room, my ears ringing like a bomb went off right next to me. And nothing could break the view of my husband: our eyes had locked on to each other before I could hear the long bleep of a failed heart from the heart monitor. I blacked out. A couple of days later, before I started writing this, I was thinking about what had happened. After Manny died, the doctors gave me their consolation, when all I really wanted was answers. The head doctor thought it could be some new virus or disease. Like we needed another one. This was only speculation, as all the blood tests they performed on Manny came up with nothing. And yes, he did consider whether this virus/disease is contagious. He thinks it isn’t. He said he’d contact me if anyone else showed any symptoms. I haven’t heard from him yet. I did tell the doctors what happened to the cat and its similarities to my husband. I don’t think they will do much to look into it. As far as I know, the cat was buried. I don’t know the owner. It was all just so unfair. Manny was a good person and did nothing wrong to deserve this. Even though I knew it was mad, I considered the website Manny used. Yet, the link still doesn’t work for me. I don’t know. Maybe Manny had something which gave him access to the website? Though, I did start thinking about what I could remember about the site. And then I remembered the disclaimer. It took me a while to try and remember what it exactly said, but this is what I could recall: ‘The bubble wrap sold on this website is for poppin’ only. If it is used for deliverin’: there will be consequences.’ It was just weird when I saw it at first. But now, could it be the reason all of this is happening? I don’t believe in any supernatural mumbo jumbo, but could it be breaking this rule had led to my husband's death? I do remember Manny having to deliver something to his mother. It was a late Mothersday gift, I think. Why not use the bubble wrap that was lying around at the time? Then what about the neighbour’s cat? I mean it did not need to use bubble wrap. Though, could it have taken the bubble wrap? Connie did sometimes come in through the window into the laundry room. And Jane did say that it ‘delivered’ some bubble wrap to her. Did I use the bubble wrap for anything? I don’t think I did. Then again, Jane did ask, not too long ago, whether she could use some of it. That doesn’t mean I ‘delivered’ it to her, does it? Though, the verruca on the back of my foot does seem to be getting… Bigger. MM submitted by /u/The_Misery_Man to r/nosleep [link] [comments]

TIFU by being vegan and possibly giving my family botulism
I am vegan. My husband is not. For New Year’s Eve we ordered a giant box of Mediterranean food that was mostly vegan with a few non-vegan sauces for the husband. Last night, I was looking to use up the last of the nonvegan garlic sauce. Since it's only a few days old I figured it had to be fine and mixed it into my husband’s portion of spaghetti. As hubby takes his plate to the TV to eat I hear him in the other room going, “Oh god! Oh god!” I think, damn, he really likes it. Until he marches back into the kitchen announcing that it was bad, off, no good. “It tastes like chemicals!” he says. I take a bite off his plate, because that’s what people do when something is bad. The militant vegans will probably be here soon to tell me that this single action probably took out a big section of the Amazon and killed the last forest fairy but anyway. I still think it’s fine but except for these stolen bites I’ve been vegan for a long time, so maybe I can’t tell anymore. We dump his plate, throw out the rest of the sauce, feed him off of my portion of dinner, and resolve to have ice cream later to make it up. Except something is nagging me. After I finish my dinner I go back to the garbage can and pull the sauce out. It’s kinda...bubbly. I can jellies and vegetables sometimes and start freaking out: oh my god I just ate botulism. I call out for husband. My vision is greying. I am having a panic attack. We live in an urban area, hospitals are at capacity with COVID, and I just gave us botulism. Husband tells me to calm down as I'm taking off my sweater and pants to get maximum airflow on this rolling ball of overheating anxiety attack. Botulism doesn’t taste bad, he says. I challenge him to show me where an authority says that something that tastes bad can’t coexist with botulism. I decide while he’s doing that I’m going to return to the arms of my teenage fling with bulimia. After I’m done horking up enough mangled spaghetti and bread to convince myself that that cursed stolen spoonful of botulism must have come out too, I clean up and rejoin my husband. He says, show me this sauce. So we go to the fridge, in which I’ve wrapped up the remaining sauce in order for the CDC to test it for botulinum when I am in the hospital with paralyzed vocal cords. My husband examines it, prods it, and suddenly sticks his finger in it to taste it before I can stop him. “Huh,” he says. “That tastes good," he announces. “Something else must have tasted funny! You’ll be fine!” Husband comes in for a kiss. I stop him from all that. Not only am I relatively fresh from a 10 minute fling with the toilet but he’s somehow got stuff all over his wildman COVID beard. It looks like...clear butter? Husband stops in his tracks. “Oh my god," he says. "I ate hand sanitizer.” Um what. You see, he had to go physically to work today, which fortunately is rare, and while continually sanitizing his hands, was somehow also managing to sanitize his beard, with globs and globs of hand sanitizer. Now, my husband is not a gracious eater. Apparently, he combed his fork of spaghetti through the hand sanitizer. The spaghetti was just along for the ride. And yet: I feel like crap today. Is my digestion messed up from the animal products in that cursed bite of garlic sauce? Is my system upset at throwing up last night (like...a lot)? Do I have COVID? Do I have botulism? Who knows. Welcome to 2021, spin the wheel and claim your prize. If my Reddit account goes unusually quiet, assume I’m paralyzed from botulism after all I guess. My husband may just have to go on through this cruel world eating hand sanitizer without me. TL;DR : I am a vegan who can't tell if animal-based food is safe to eat, and my husband is a caveman who thinks hand sanitizer is edible. submitted by /u/silversatire to r/tifu [link] [comments]
